Visions of Bodies Being Burned next! I didn't even think it was possible but they somehow upped basically every aspect on the next one. Crazily visceral sound to the point it makes you physically uncomfortable at many points, brilliant music.

All In Your Head is the most underrated track in their whole discography. Makes me cry every time. To me, it paints a sort of trail of tears map articulating the sort of ancestral pain of the sex worker from the past to the present. I don't know if that makes sense. It feels almost like a biblical parable of a street sex worker cursed to sort of walk the street for eternity. I can never get through those last few lines without tearing up.
It's amazing how good this album is and that the sequel/sister album Visions of Bodies Being Burned blows it out of the water. That reaction to Attunement though is so good. "You win this round, clipping." Easily the most haunting song on the album even if songs like Blood of the Fang are better
I disagree with “it blows it out of the water” because I think it depends on what you want. Personally I think the atmosphere and the actual horror movie feel created by There existed an addiction to blood is better than Visions. I think Visions has a lot more tracks that stand on their own and are a little more listenable as actual songs but for me There existed is a better overall experience. I absolutely adore both albums and all of clippings albums for that matter but this is just my thoughts.

Better as an experience for me, whereas TEAATB has higher peaks on a track to track basis. With some growing pains going full horrorcore in this soudn and manner

Clipping's patience is their strongest attribute if you ask me. They aren't afraid to drag out an introduction or some atmosphere just to add that cherry on the top for the experience they're aiming for.
while i wish you started with midcity or clppng, i feel like this one is actually a pretty good album to start with yk, even without having any previous knowledge or experience with the group's music it's still a fantastic listen. Disregarding that, it's a great album and i love it to death, same with the sequel visions of bodies being burned, it's just as good if not better
Fascinating album, the physicality of the production is insane - it feels like it’s about to crush you. I do have trouble with the abstract nature of it, it starts blending together for me at some point, might need more time with it. Got tickets for their live show, that should be a trip 😅
Also ngl, I like noise music lmao. The two producers are noise artists that went on to film score and produce in clipping. It can be weird to approach, but clipping (especially early clipping, like CLPPNG and Midcity) was definitely what first got me pretty into it.
You definitely should check out their other albums, Clipping has one of the most impressive discographies of any rap group, or really any group that I know. Also, have you considered doing non-hip hop reactions occasionally? I know you use the "rocker expanding into other genres" which is certainly cool, but I think a lot of your viewers like your reactions for you and how you analyze art and approach new stuff with an open mind. There's been a lot of great music across a bunch of different genres released this year, and obviously a bunch of great hidden or semi-hidden gems for years past to discover.
I'll be open to bleeding into other genres once I get all the hip-hop classics under my belt. I still have way too many albums on my plate to open up interest in other genres.
The thing I enjoy so much about the stories is that in some way they're extremely interesting in a music theory sense (time signatures for story 7 for example) but the story is also really coherent in a way, but still very applicable to the album itself.

I sent a message about it but if you wanna learn more about the Black Panthers, two things that are super educational and great are Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution - a documentary on youtube. It also has interviews with members. Several members are still serving life sentences completely unjustly The Autobiography of Assata Shakur. A book by Assata, and also Tupac’s godmother. Her friend was killed by a cop, the cop was killed, Assata went to prison in a men’s prison, broke out, lives in exile in Cuba to this day, politicians still talk about getting her locked back up because she was a #1 most wanted “criminal”

Blood on the Fang is my favorite track and if you really dive into every lyric is like a history book in itself. Almost every lyric in that last verse is a reference to a black civil rights activist. A lot of them I hadn’t even heard of

this album is one of my favorite to have on vinyl! my copy is a clear with a blood splatter design, but the thing that makes it so cool is how the record ends on vinyl I haven't played piano burning on vinyl yet, but from what I've heard, that final track (which takes up the entire fourth side) ends by not triggering the needle to stop, which causes the needle itself to go over onto the sticker on the middle of the vinyl. Makes it so your album looks haunted it's so cool!!
Talking about artistic intent and the wall of harsh noise in La Mala Ordina. Someone pointed out on Clipping's channel that Daveed says "Your third act really drags, The structure falls apart." at the start of the song, thought that might interest you.
Other people might have told you this before, Bob, but in case it hasn't come up, clipping is also sometimes spelled as CLPPNG (also the name of one of their albums). This is a reference to the fact that none of their songs are written in first person- there's no "I". It adds a very strange, surreal feeling to the songs, feels like it's not that it's happening to Daveed, it could be happening to anyone. Could be happening to you. By the way, I know you're thinking about swapping Thriller for VOBBB later this month (which I think is the right idea, Thriller isn't really Halloween-themed beyond the title track), but also be sure to check out the track Story 2 off of the aforementioned self-titled album CLPPNG at some point. One of the weirdest-produced songs in hip-hop of all time. I won't spoil it, you just have to hear it.

when you talked about blood of the fang and not hearin about the black panthers, i understand that whole heartedly. i was never taught about them in school even though that was EXTREMELY critical to the civil rights movement. i only heard about them through my black mom growin up (i’m half black half white for context) and i highly suggest watchin a small documentary on them whenever you have the chance since the “policing the police” part of the organization was crucial to race relations in the 60s and onwards. with the black panthers bein a big part of my family’s history on my mom’s side, and that fact i was NEVER taught that in school despite bein how influential they are, it really connected me to this song in particular off this amazin album. love the vids Bob ✊🏽❤️
It's so frustrating learning about what I was never taught... and seeing a bigger picture at play in that educational structure. Obviously, there's only so much time in a day, so a choice must be made on what children are taught and what isn't, but it's very suspect the things I was NOT taught in school versus what I was.
The interpretation of “nothing is safe” I subscribe to, is that the “Body sent to the coroner” in the 3rd verse is the ghost/Angel throughout the song. He was killed in the last job they did and now he is back for vengeance. That’s why the man running recognizes the way he walks.
39:11 I’m my opinion, they were trying to replicate to feeling of shock. Not like “suprise!!!”, but like medical, physiological shock. That feeling when you’re so hurt your face goes numb and you feel like you can’t see but you see everything at the same time. I feel like they wanted to bring a sense of reality back to the song. They’re reminding you of how terrible it would be to go through something like this. We as the listeners are forced to experience this ‘rappers’ last moments with him. It’s a reminder that, unlike what the rapper thought, this isn’t cool. It isn’t fun. People ready die. I LOVE CLIPPING
I do think it's important to know that Clipping is a pretty political group. Think of Daveed the same way you'd think of Killer Mike. There's a reason the annotations tend to lean into a more political interpretation of the lyrics.

I think there is something deeper than just the basic story that daveed is telling on this album. I think you could draw a line between the evil that he is rapping about and maybe a force in the real world.
Id find it very interesting to see you react to some new school underground music. One artist I would definitely recommend to you is destroy lonely. He is signed to Playboi cartis label called opium. Destroy has a lot of very good unreleased/leaked music, but he recently dropped the album “no stylist” and I think it’s one of the best albums of this year. He often uses rock inspired beats so I think you’ll like it. On the song SWGSKOOL for example he uses a deftones sample and it’s beautiful. Love the vids bob, you the man.
I do get your comment about the end of La Mala Ordina "just being noise", but I do find myself zoning out and enjoying it... Something about the texture of it and the different changes the noise goes through over the duration of it makes it sound really satisfying. I do find myself questioning when it's going to end as it's blasting my ears, but almost in a way where I'm enjoying the anticipation, not "I can't wait for this to be over with".
Even if I don’t agree with some of your assessments, I love the way you break lyrics down. It feels like the opposite of how I think, which is so dope, gives me a whole new perspective on the music.
Yeah this and Visions I think of as a horror anthology project, with 2 'seasons' (albums) So in theory they could release some more projects in this style and I'd be all for it.

I like how "The Show" basically sounds like a dark catwalk or Billy Mays type thing while it's basically talking about a darknet redroom, where someone gets tortured on a livestream you can attend by paying money.

39:11 I’m my opinion, they were trying to replicate to feeling of shock. Not like “suprise!!!”, but like medical, physiological shock. That feeling when you’re so hurt your face goes numb and you feel like you can’t see but you see everything at the same time. I feel like they wanted to bring a sense of reality back to the song. They’re reminding you of how terrible it would be to go through something like this. We as the listeners are forced to experience this ‘rappers’ last moments with him. It’s a reminder that, unlike what the rapper thought, this isn’t cool. It isn’t fun. People ready die. I LOVE CLIPPING
For Bone Thugs, I always felt they took a big step up with their LP East 1999 Eternal, after Creepin on ah Come Up.
I do think it's important to know that Clipping is a pretty political group. Think of Daveed the same way you'd think of Killer Mike. There's a reason the annotations tend to lean into a more political interpretation of the lyrics.

yoo! you should listen to a J dilla project if you haven’t already, especially the album “Donuts”. it’s a production masterpiece and it may not be lyrical or anything but it will just show how far production can go in rap
I think there is something deeper than just the basic story that daveed is telling on this album. I think you could draw a line between the evil that he is rapping about and maybe a force in the real world.

Id find it very interesting to see you react to some new school underground music. One artist I would definitely recommend to you is destroy lonely. He is signed to Playboi cartis label called opium. Destroy has a lot of very good unreleased/leaked music, but he recently dropped the album “no stylist” and I think it’s one of the best albums of this year. He often uses rock inspired beats so I think you’ll like it. On the song SWGSKOOL for example he uses a deftones sample and it’s beautiful. Love the vids bob, you the man.

I do get your comment about the end of La Mala Ordina "just being noise", but I do find myself zoning out and enjoying it... Something about the texture of it and the different changes the noise goes through over the duration of it makes it sound really satisfying. I do find myself questioning when it's going to end as it's blasting my ears, but almost in a way where I'm enjoying the anticipation, not "I can't wait for this to be over with".

Yeah this and Visions I think of as a horror anthology project, with 2 'seasons' (albums)
