In my first exposure to Clipping's music, I was left thoroughly impressed and intrigued. "There Existed an Addiction to Blood" is a dark, skeletal, and heavy album that is laced with extremely detailed lyrics that describe scenes that could be the script to a horror-gore movie.
Thematically, this album revolves around dark imagery, brutal and blood-thirsty violence and horror story-telling. With the album title being derived from a vampire movie and this album being released in October, this project is heavily tied into being a "spooky Halloween" album but not like your typical "horror-core" album such as Tyler the Creator's "Goblin" or Gravediggaz's "6 Feet Deep", rather this collection of songs can be processed more like a mini-series. Each song has enough weight in production and lyricism to pose as a complete story in itself.
Lyrically, this is where the album shines the most for me. I am fairly familiar with experimental hip-hop music but I have not heard the level of lyricism as potent and vivid as Daveed's on production like this. It's also not just how well his writing is but Daveed is incredible in consistently switching up his flow and delivering his verses in a way that is catchy and ear-grabbing. Throughout the album, I couldn't help but notice that the lyrics heavily resembled something that you would hear at a spoken word show, and while there are plenty of rappers that also utilize this aspect of poetry, Daveed perfectly morphs this into what a lot of people would consider the perfect realm of hip-hop. The vivid details, electric flows, engaging story-telling and captivating delivery immediately demands your attention.
Sonically, Clipping does well to provide a dark and haunting setting for the horror-core lyrics that embody this project. The production is very heavy and at times skeletal which could leave the listener "cold" which would usually be thought of as a bad thing, but as this album was inspired by horror movies, specifically vampire movies, the production is perfect for the direction that Clipping wanted this project to go towards. In comparison, a lot of the instrumentals reminded me of Daughter's album "You Won't Get What You Want".
All in all, this was a great album for me and as this was my first introduction to Clipping, I have to say that I am extremely impressed and look forward to diving deeper into their catalog. Thanks for watching and reading!

fun fact the rapper daveed diggs never raps in the first person which is why his lyricism is so discriptive.
It is also why their 2014 album is “Clipping” without the I’s

Check out the "Story" series. There's 1,2,4,5,7. Each song flows into the next and each tells a story about a different person that is related in another song. It's freaking incredible.
Also during a part in their album Splendor&Misery, there's moorse code that spells "grace is Randy's sister" relating to story 5's grace being the sister of randy from Story 1 (and now 7)
Their musical abilities is insane and you nerd to take some time to analyze exactly what is happening

The sample of the car on "Run For Your Life" is crazy. The song is about a female vampire (whom La Chat plays on the song) searching for a victim to kill (Diggs). The car driving by playing the beat symbolizes Chat searching for Diggs to kill him, and the rest of the noise is just Diggs outside, trying to run and hide. Extremely clever and intricate use of a beat to create the feeling that you're being watched and followed.

You should listen to CLPPNG next. Midcity will probably be too noisy for you, maybe not though. And Splendor & Misery is their most interesting, it's so unique and pulled off waaayyy better than it should have on paper. I've seen then live twice, pretty much flawless. Daveed's breath control is crazy. And William and Jonathan are great with the transitions and sound manipulation.

You're right about Nothing Is Safe being about police brutality. The song is an inversion of the film Assault On Precinct 13.
If you liked the lyricism on this album then the rest of their discography definitely will not disappoint.
Their album clppng makes for a really good reaction/review. There's less of an overall theme/concept than you see here, but the songs are bangers.
Their album Splendor & Misery on the other hand, is even more of a concept album than this one is. It's a bit hard for me to describe but it's incredible.
Their single "The Deep" would also make for a good reaction/review. It's kinda overlooked because it wasn't on album and never had a music video, but the story is so vivid that it inspired a book.

This album was based on an african american vampire movie from the 1970's called Ganja & Hess, hence the title of the album and a lot of the lyrical content, as most of it alludes to the scenes from the horror movie, as well as social commentary on murder, drug use, gang violence, etc. It's a storytelling album, all of their albums are, and it's very compelling.

"The Show" is very heavily based around the idea of online sites referred too as "Red Rooms" where you must pay to view the stream of someone torturing someone.
Imagine a cam show where you can pay to interact with the stream and make things happen, but it's torturing people.
