There were guitar strings shredded and frets worn down during the filming of this episode. I cannot think of many real guitarists who would not be impressed by these two men. Both of them at their best here but Roy Clark stayed at the top of his craft for many more decades and Marty Stuart is still at the top of his. RIP Roy Clark, he left us with so much video taped evidence of his craft and we can still enjoy it, Marty Stuart is still giving us joy and his legacy will be his body of work.

I saw Marty and his Fabulous Superlatives a few days ago.
Acoustic guitars, 1 snare drum and his mandolin.
He and Kenny had a grand ole time picking away
      He still has it

Both of these are classy guys. I sort of grew up with Marty on the bluegrass circuit when he was with Flatt.
I wasn’t much acquainted with Roy Clark but I met him when we did a show together in Nashville. Of course he was a big star and I wasn’t but I’ll never forget what he told me: “It will never be any better for you than it is right now.”
And he was right. What he was saying is that everything has a downside, even success. The more successful I got the more headaches I had and my life certainly didn’t get any better. I came to miss the days when I wasn’t so successful but was a lot more content.
So, there’s a trite lesson yet a profound one.

This is an awesome performance. Studio cut can be found on Marty’s 1982 album Busy bee cafe. As a kid Hee-haw was my free weekly guitar lesson. Can’t beat old Roy and Buck and Don rich! Great memories!

You are a Lucky 🐕 if you have Busy Bee Cafe! My late father used to play the song Busy Bee Cafe over and over! First time I heard it I was blown away. Marty's voice was exciting and chilling all at the same time! On guitar, mandolin and fiddle he can hold his own with anyone out there.

I find it so strange that some of the best pickers who ever played a stringed instrument, made their living as TV personalities. Like these two, Jerry Reed, and Glen Campbell, who was face-melting player. It took 4-5 decades for us to realize the talent.

I think it’s the same song, and I know it as “Nothing To It” but I don’t think that’s the real name. I heard a story where Doc played it in a studio and when he was done, someone asked him what the song was called. He misunderstood and thought they were saying how good it was, and that’s how the name came of his version came about.
