I admit to me these games always looked a bit silly/goofy so for years I wondered why they'd be so appealing to Japanese men. I had never considered the fact that everyone in the room will probably be *_completely wasted_* in less than an hour and then the games might actually become a lot of fun. Just trying to play and failing miserably because you're so drunk is probably hilarious in itself. 🥴

It is traditionally part of the" boys night out" atmosphere of the tatami room banquet. It was strictly private and it gave an opportunity for the serious, mostly middle aged married men to act silly with the Maikos, who were essentially teen aged girls.

I mean... beer pong isn't really that interesting, when it comes down to it... or Musical chairs... which people like to play (adults as well) or pretty much ANY drinking game.

1st one seems kinda of wierd if you don't have someone to play music
2nd one well it's like Shogo said a rock paper scissors

Konpira-funé funé was most fun to watch imho, Tosenkyo was exciting as wel but if one player has too much of an advantage by turn 3, nothing short of a miracle needs to happen for the other player to win.
Also is there such a thing as a Tosenkyo tournament scene? Since I get the feeling Harumi could do very well in one of those.

Playing the tōsenkyo game i noticed the counting is different from the other counting systems japanese uses. Is there a seperate, unique to point/score counting, system for games/points in japanese or was it just something unique to the games being played?
Sorry, japanese counting systems and verb tenses are the two most difficult things in japanese i find.
Never found learning the scripts too difficult except for some of the less common kanji and two hirigana characters i keep confusing with eachother for some reason. But those counting systems...why must the jaoanese use a unique counting system for eveything?

The game with the small round box is like scissors, rock, paper. It's when you literally throw out your hand, facing another person simultaneously, and it has three configurations, flat hand, fist and two parted forefingers which represent scissors. The flat hand represents paper and the fist a rock. Scissors cut paper, rock blunts scissors and paper wraps rock. This is the winning configuration. The same hand, for example scissors versus scissors, is a draw.
