Thanks for the review. Love your designs. Time to move on to designing a flat pack 3-way 80-18kHz Synergy horn now, Joseph :)

Very cool to see the CSD differences.. Have you tried the Radian Be drivers? Or even the 18sound Be ones? Sad about Fostex stopping production..

I am a speaker novice. I am an instrumentalest that can hear a qaulity speaker which is how I found RCF. I was curious if assuming the build construction and design of the cabinet and woofer were of sound/quality design would a larger compression driver (3 or 4 inches) in a 2 way 12 or 15 inch speaker increase the overall performance of the system when paired with a sub?
Or would pairing a speaker with a smaller compression driver and a Sub achieve the same result?
For example: RCF Art 932 vs. the RCF Art 912

With an abrasive paper, rub carefuly the inside of the kapton coil former, until the kapton is thin enough. but do not rub the diaphragm.
you will notice higher eff in less watts.

Hi Joseph. I am just curious…Why is it that the wrap around curvature is applied to the horizontal profile of the horn, but not the vertical?

you just solved an issue with my Ig4T speakers. the one had some strange distortion, a sine tone sounded fine, but when playing el piano some tones sounded distorted in the one speaker, in the lower end of its working area, but a small pease of sok (what i had) solved the problem :) thanks

So the heading say ND-850 but you speak about the ND-840!? 850 is expensive but 840 can be found for 216€. Also would like to know do you really hear 15k-20k. As I don't hear more than 13k it would have been interested to see if it would have been possible to rectify the 10k resonance with some stiffer foam.

I use RCF Compression drivers in PA application and they are great . Now I tried also Italian brand FAITAL PRO in My opinion they bit better in 10 -20 kHz.

You can use a piece of 3M surgical tape like the foam I think the foam will move with time I was wondering can you get carbon fibre diaphragms have not heard of any

@@JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding right can he do extraction on the carbon fibre so you get a double skin affect, with an foam layer in between I am talking micron distances between the two layers nothing big probably the width of a hair. Or even making the diaphragm honeycomb shaped is the best shape, individual honeycombs to form the shape less material is needed and is stiffer, could be achieved through a vacuum, by just milling the Honeycomb in the block of aluminium the shape you need of diaphragm, not sure which is better both sides honeycomb shape or just the one side something to experiment on

The guys who started 18sound came directly from RCF. That was back in -98 if i remember correctly.
Today everything is different, thise guys aren’t there anymore and i think one of them in the R&D is now with B&C (atleast i saw a photo recently of that) and also B&C bought 18Sound.
I believe RCF are doing very good stuff today, as always. I use their L15P400 and thinking of trying ND950 or 850.
Thanx Joseph for you detailed videos.
I’m the guy btw that runs SB Acoustics Loudspeaker fans on Facebook🙂

Great to know! The L15P400 is a great driver.
The ND850 is great from 600Hz-10kHz. Much better than any vintage compression drivers.

My Meyer driver came with preglued foam. I removed most of it.

I've tried B&C mostly about six different models. The RCF is a step up from B&C although more money but well worth the extra cost.

I've had better results with 18Sound 1" drivers on CD waveguides than bi-radials.
