Most have learned that being authentic leaves you vulnerable. They learn it early and then become guarded. They often learn that success is a matter of seizing opportunities, and that without regard for others - it's a competition.
That creates a dog eat dog world where self preservation is at the core and true identity is often lost in the pursuit of material gain.
We learn to guard ourselves in battle before we learn to navigate the landmines in battlefield itself. We learn to be what we think we need to before learning to read others with our intuition. We learn to see the signs before we learn to understand and mitigate them.
There is nothing wrong with pursuing excellence. I believe Stoic Philosophy says do it, just not at the expense of others. Do it sincerely holding others in care, advocating for their prosperity as well and with noble intention.
      Just my 2 cents...

That sounds like narcissism to me. My late ex carried a darkness in him that I didn't see until I finally left and began to unravel all of the things he did behind my back, all the while smiling to my face. He had one of those personalities who could smile while telling a lie, and you'd somehow believe it. He was a top salesman for a home improvement company, and he had to lie to make sales. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to afford to live. He didn't care that he lied or that he could get caught. Then, when it happened, he acted like the victim. He didn't deserve to be penalized for making false claims about the company to save his job. He lied and bragged to anyone who'd listen. He was the postor boy for this video.

Also be careful of someone acting over empathetic toward strangers at your expense , while continually trying to take from you. And have expectations of you to do things for them. Pretending to be the good person, putting you on the spot.

As humans we all have much to work through, both within ourselves and others. Our biggest issue is our tendency to see only the positive within ourselves and to project the negative to the "other". Most people are completely unconscious of this tendency which becomes their modus operendi.

Thank you for sharing your insight, @josephrego2527. It's true that our tendency to focus on the positive within ourselves while projecting the negative onto others can be a significant challenge. How do you believe we can become more conscious of this tendency and work towards overcoming it?

Unfortunately, in a world dominated by narcissism it becomes extremely challenging for those who attempt forward movement on the path of self-growth. The world is based on dualism and the illusion of separation. The powerful are always those who've achieved their status at the expense or exploitation of others. It's been and continues to be the way of the world.
For those brave and loving souls who choose to take "the road less traveled" there will be many obstacles in their way. Fortunately, the human spirit is our strength and guide along the path. First, we must recognize our weaknesses, become aware of them, and make the decision to not act out our negative tendencies. Our innate reaction is to attack mentally, verbally or physically when we feel threatened in any way. It is our survival mode. We must learn to transcend this reaction. Surrender to it instead of reacting. This step must be taken and adhered to, or nothing changes. For those seeking the honorable path, there are few and far between, It takes great effort, strength, courage and stamina. The reward is joy and inner peace. "A Course in Miracles" a book written by Helen Schucman is the preeminent guide on the journey.@@KingStoic101

I know someone that started acting different after they ran into an evil person. This is someone that I've known for well over a decade and their behavior after meeting this person was highly uncharacteristic of them. Its only 4 yrs down the road, that they are starting to see just exactly how evil this person is.

Yes i have and still do know someone who possess all of these signs; lack of empathy, pathological liar, and blames others for HER actions. To protect myself i try to stay away for long a possible. Every interaction I've had with always ends badly and im drained, upset, and aggravated. This person is PURE EVIL at its CORE. Who lies on their OWN child and SLANDERS my name???? Im so tired of her BS i don't know what to do.

If someone shows you they are toxic
Believe them and forget about all that‘I’ll change shite’ they mean that they will focus on how bad they feel about whatever nastiness they have done but they won’t apologise and then they know that they can get away with more now

People with personality disorders are not inherently evil. Personality disorders are often caused by trauma. Classifying wounded people as evil or malicious is false.

I've been exercising stoicism and I didn't even know it I am feared and hated by some for being influential tho when it comes to practicing understanding for my self simply for my self in my circumstances
Dealing with "evil" and the people who seek to perpetually seek to breed in in your life and in this world
Careful observation of self as well as the external world is a obsessive behavior I practice in yet I've been played with on this in many ways while doing this to resist both control and allure
