Wow that is good there is a PCIE slot, I hope other MiniPC mfgers start doing this as well. Also it would be good if they have PCIE 16 lanes and easier to accessfor the future.
would you please make a video on how you are connecting the gpu to the mini pc. How is it different from x16 connectivity? Whats the actual drop in performance for the gpu you have.
Thanks for the review. Can you also please share your way to connect it with an external dedicated graphic card? Your setup seems to be pretty neat and elegant. Thanks again.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll add a section to my blog with the connection details. I 3D printed a new bottom cover with a larger cutout for a PCIe riser cable. The female PCIe port on the riser then screws onto the cover to mount the GPU onto. I powered the GPU with an external 12V power supply which I soldered to an 8 pin connector.
The thumbnail highlights the PCIe slot, but you're not really showing how you are installing the card 😂 It looks like the machine needs to remain without the bottom cover and then put in vertical position? Anything else?
I have a video on their EX Dock coming up. The Dock is the proper was to use this port (doesn't require covers to be removed) but it wasn't out yet when this video was made.
@@MichaelKlements My comment wasn't about the dock. It was because the Thumbnail really highlights the PCIe, but then you don't show how you're using it at all. Like zip. Suddenly there is a GPU connected, but no idea how or what's involved.
It's a bit of a hacky solution, I've put more detail on it on my blog. The complete solution is a 3D printed adapted bottom cover than allows a standardriser cable to be plugged into the PCIe port and then support the GPU. I powered the GPU using a 12V 10A power adaptor that I soldered onto an 8-pin connector - this depends on your GPUs power requirements though.
Thanks for recording this, but can you show the wiring and all you need for the external gpu? I really want one of these things but idk where to start.
Hey, thanks to your video I ended up pulling the trigger on buying the GTi14 185H. Thanks for the review and the details. One question, did you run Proxmox on it?
A great vid Michael. Within the last year I bought a Beelink Mini PC. The OS would never work properly with the M.2 drive. Their customer support is a little lacking. I couldn't fix the issue so I am forced to use the SSD drive. Hopefully the new products have better quality control. I am looking forward to the price on the unit you reviewed.
@@MichaelKlements Initially it did then it would only boot up intermittently from the M.2. BeeLink stated they would replace it but I would have to pay for shipping. They said the issue was with the M.2 drive and sent me a new one. It could not boot. So I decided the ssd was good enough for me. I believe they gave $50 for my troubles. The mini pc was MINIS12 PRO-A Win 11. It used an N100 chip. Other than the reported issue, it works fine. I can use the M.2 as storage.
It depends on the software you're looking to run on it. If you're comfortable with MacOS then I'd probably go with the Mac Mini, they're powerful and efficient.
He was talking about the $160.00 Atom based Mini pc, and then says on the opposite end of the spectrum is this one. If you want something close to a Pi, check the other review. N100 based system. This is an alternative to a full on desktop, honestly.
well this is a low power chip that doesn't seem affected. Doesn't seem. Will have to wait and see if they have issues down the road, and just fail slower due to less power draw involved. or, could get an AMD and be safe.
For me, it's the opposite. I run Ryzen on my PC (5800X), but for a 24/7 server that involves media (Plex, Emby, Jellyfin...), I feel it has to be Intel due to QuickSync. Do you mind sharing the downsides of Intel for you?

it's $849 for the ultra 7 series and $919 for the ultra 9 series as of july 17, 2024.
Yikes!!!

@@MichaelKlementscan you make a quick video showing this. It would be great and you would be the first to do it on TH-cam. I will subscribe now.

You're way too modest for referring to your previous egpu set up as a hack job. I think it's amazing.
Amazing Review Thanks! Quick Question: how did you create that custom GPU PSU I might wanna do that because of how big and clumsy the dock is.?
It's a bit of a hacky solution, I've put more detail on it on my blog.

I bought one of these and it's going ok so far. Updating the BIOS appears to be quite the faff...
PCIe 16 slot should bee at side than hidden deep in bottom

I've added this to my blog post linked in the video description. It's really just a PCIe riser and an 8-pin power supply.
Hi, one question, the external support for video, where you get ?, thanks for your nice content and info
I 3D printed a new base plate for the GTI 14 with a PCIe riser cable holder.
@@MichaelKlementsyour job is amazing, thanks for your videos !!!
Very impressive for a small guy
cost of a big guy though.
Why do you think Michael is small guy?
What is small on him?

Great, you won't be disappointed! No I haven't tried running Proxmox on it.
Can you power the eGPU card separately? The 145w supplied PSU won't run most cards.
Yes that’s what I did, it’s powered through an external 8 pin connector

IT uses an Intel I226-V controller

Single pcie lane? Occulink is 4 lanes at gen 3 or gen 4.
It is an 8 lane PCIe gen 4 port
Should i buy mac mini or this? For vfx and multitasking?

Getting dangerously close to Lenovo Ideaccentre minis. Previous generation had an internal pci slot
The performance of this PC is significantly better than a Lenovo Ideacentre though
He begins talking comparison with the Raspberry Pi. This Mini PC costs £700 here so is 10x the cost of a Pi. Therefore not comparable at all.
I begin by saying "this is on the opposite end of the spectrum", i.e. not comparable

I get the idea of the implementation, but it's not for me. I would like it more without the speakers and pwr supply inside.
