    Here's an update from Beelink on how to fix the idle power consumption. I'll test it in the next video.

    The proprietary power supply and dismal upgradability are deal breakers. Nice deep dive into the idle power draw issue!

    Mine just arrived (185h)! Thank you for the review again. It's unbelievable how quiet it is. Even changing the BIOS to 65W and running benchmarks I need to touch my ear on it to hear something. MS-01 (13900h) it's on the way but I'll probably return it... really satisfied after my initial tests.

    Beelink The infamous 'we'll never sell barebones' brand that invented the magnetic proprietary bottom power plug, with no advantages over a standard barrel jack. Did they listen to all reviewers complain about this? Why yes! Now we get a garbage built-in power supply. And completely borked mainboard to make sure the PSU stays nice and warm. Good grief. Someone needs to send that CEO home pronto.

    I was wondering why my GTi14 Ultra case was getting warm to semi toasty temperatures when the pc was off. The high idle and power consumption explain a lot!

    Thanks for all videos you have been making related to mini PC. I have seen quite a lot of them :) Just asking as I'm intending to buy one of them: 1- Are there mini PCs suitable for AI & Data Science workload? Thanks :D

      This CPU has AI acceleration as does the latest 8000 series AMD Ryzen mobile. How they compare to using a GPU, I'm not sure.

    Robtech, I'm new to Mini PCs and was just wondering what is the bare minimum that I can get away with if I just wanted it for heavy browsing with many tabs, smooth 4K video playback and overall be quick and snappy? No games, editing or heavy workloads required. I don't want to overspend on excesses I'll never use.

    • @dave_r
      @dave_r 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      HI. I'm sure Rob will respond but I thought I'd suggest a couple of things: Many people would suggest that you consider a mini using the N100, but I'd suggest that you consider something like the Beelink Ryzen 7 5800H. It came out about 2 years ago and can be had on AMZN US for about $250. I've had the 5600H for about 23 months (didn't want to spring for the 5800H at the price then) and it's been great. I was iffy about Beelink at the time, but they seem pretty solid, and the 5800H will handle things that no unit in that price range that has come out recently will do. Granted, they are all DDR4 3200 and 512GB, but they perform well.

      I can have 100s of open tabs in Opera, with just 16GB of RAM on my overheating and thermal throttling i7 4710HQ 10 year old laptop.
      4K video playback is another thing as I drop frames even on 1080p videos on TH-cam.
      My recommendation is, at a minimum 16GB of RAM but better to get 32GB+
      CPU get something which is not a N100 tier of CPUs. So go for any of the Ultra Intel ones, any of the 12XXX series from Intel, and probably any Ryzen from the last 2 generations and you should be fine.

      Agree with Dave. While N100 is fine for most, if you want very smooth web browsing experience you're going to want to something better. The lowest I would look at is something like the Beelink SER5 5560U which is great bang for buck, low on power draw and noise for around $240USD.

    Great to see an original form factor, unconventional "14 Ultra" naming convention and low idle power usage for once... PC's are knocking it out of the ball park...

  • @TrusteftTech
    @TrusteftTech 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Giving a thousand Euros for a computer without a dedicated GPU....nah.
    If it at least came with...I don't know, 4TB of SSD, then maybe.
    Having said that, about the docking station, I am confused, are you supposed to leave the pc open?
    So, seeing what needs to be done to access the storage (volatile and non), what does it need to be done first to access the CPU fan? An expedition to first recover the Golden Fleece?
    The power issues are...interesting.
    90C is not acceptable, especially when you have so much extra size. If you are going to make the mini PC much larger, (yes I realize the reasons they did it), FFS improve the thermals too! 90C in Winter (Australia August) what does it mean for hot days?
    Thanks for another great video.

      Yeah, lid off and slots in. I assume its covered by the dock.
      Fan noise will increase at higher temps or the curve can be modified to bring it up.

  • @khaleel_as

    So far I have yet to see a real world review of Mini PC's.
    For example, can you run game + stream to twitch or youtube + open 1 website like youtube all at the same time ? whats the temp gonna be ? how is the device performance? Or Game + Discord + TH-cam.
    Normal people will have multiple things opened at the same time and so I wonder if these mini PC's will be reliable for the long term. Or is it going to be more like work station and thats about it. Please consider these tests next time.

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maximum temp is already benchmarked with all cores under load. Discord and TH-cam are negligible workloads that will use up some CPU cycles. Depending on the game, there might be a slight drop in average framerate and 1% lows

    • @khaleel_as
      @khaleel_as หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Robtech Well, ideally if I am running my PC at this max Temp, it is more likely going to die in a short period. I very much rather know what Temp I will be getting with my daily use case. Is it going to be comfortable and handle all this ? or is it going to struggle and cause it to die sooner than I expect it.

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      CPUs are made to withstand temperatures up to 110C. Max temp is usually all cores under load for 30 minutes. Rarely are all cores under load. I don't know what data or experience you're basing these assumptions on. There are mini PCs out there with 3 year warranties.

    What's the point of the integrated power supply if it's possible to run with USB C?

      For those that don't have a USB-C monitor. You'd lose the use of the Thunderbolt 4 port if a USB-C power supply was included.

    I've been curious about this review, and... this unit just seems like such a mixed bag. There are some neat things about it (nice BT for a metal case and the good wifi and ethernet chips) but the built-in PSU is a bit of a red flag. The PCIe slot is interesting, and it'll be interesting to see how it works when you review that aspect of it. Still, things like the high idle power draw bother me. I don't doubt there's a market for this unit, but I wonder if it's large enough to justify this unit.

    For the price there were too any things that were not quite thought through enough. It seems like all the effort that went into adding the features and not enough about the finished product. I would expect 3Tb of storage for this class of machine.

    I want integrated power supplies. This isnt high end audio. My power supply is inside my desktop. Put it inside my mini pc. And surely they could make it both internal AND replaceable. As if anyones psu has died anyway.

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Desktop power supplies are standardised and easily replaceable with multiple brands. Who's going to provide the replaceable proprietary power supply for this mini. Just Beelink? For how many years? At what price? Compared to just getting some OEM barrel jack PSU off eBay or AliExpress like you can for other minis. Of course PSUs die. All electronic equipment fails.
