    I can't say for my own place yet since we haven't started Reno, but at my current place at casa with my mom, our coves are wayyyy neater than that! The insides are neatened up. The only thing that was left a bit "exposed" are the light connectors, but that actually ended up making it easier to change bulbs. But certainly not exposed screws, bumps, and structural pieces.

    Looking good😊. Regarding cove ceilings… after watching this video … I don’t think I’ll ever get them. Lizards setting up colonies up there would really freak me out. 😂

      Hahaha ya we have never seen the insides of a cove ceiling and wished we had seen this earlier too. Totally was not expecting the crevices and gaps and screws.

    Chemical wash is mostly nonsense for all reno work. Mine was the same. But to be fair, after the house reno, you need to clean a few more times before all the micro dust will fully be gone. You need to air the house often too due to the chemical used during the renovation. And for the vacuum with the "D", that brand is of its own league. So far from what I know, good European brands like Miele and "D" excel in dry vacuuming, I used various brands and found they are generally one of the best ones in the market. Yes, you need to compare apple to apple. There are brands that do what they have been best at for decades and they are solely good for that. Some of their models outdid their own, but not every model is great. Even great cleaning brands like Bissell vacuum cleaners lose to Miele and "D" when it comes to dry vacuuming but excel when comes to carpet wet vacuuming. AIO does not mean it is the best, it is simply Jack of All Trade with lesser precision. You can watch TH-cam for more vacuum cleaners comparison and you would know why.

      @thesuakus  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, thanks so much for sharing! 🤩 Yah tbh, till now we still don't know what is "chemical wash " 😆 Indeed, we have spammed activated carbon in all our carpentry and bought 3 Samsung air purifiers to help with the formaldehyde but every now and then, we can still smell a gush of emissions. Hopefully Dyson continues to innovate because after using a Wet and Dry vac at the same price point, it's unlikely we would go back to just Dry ! ☺️

    Hi, can i seek your advice on the hacking away of the yard bifold door the lourve windows and its wall, other that applying the necessary permit from hdb, is there any other external cost that is incurred to get a engineer to certify that the area can be heard. If only hdb permit is needed, what are the charges by hdb? thank you very much indeed!

    • @thesuakus
      @thesuakus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello there! Aside from the permit, no professional engineering assessment required! I heard that some people will try to get an engineer to certify hacking away more of the service yard beam (closely up to the waterpipes). No charges from HDB on the permit too - usually your ID will market this as 'complimentary' in the quotation, or have it included in the hacking fee.😀

      Hi neighbour! Sorry to hear that ~ Ya don't rush to move in if you have proper accommodation right now.. it was quite a tough December for us with missing carpentry and contractors coming in and out. Constant putting up of protective sheets and tearing down and cleaning 😅

      Awww thank you so much for your concern!! 🥰Ya I also scared.. every few seconds gotta check and ask them to be careful 😖
      Ahaha arc glass door and door frame very very expensive, and don't have enough space to swing either side. If divide the arc door into two halfs, workflow quite unproductive because we'll need an extra step to open both halves in order to enter in and out. But good question! We'll be covering this in detail in this week's episode so stay tuned! 😃

      @thesuakus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! We found some random mover on Carousell (not the one branded on our boxes - those boxes are recycled from a neighbour 😃). Our moving cost $250 for a 14ft lorry and we booked them about 2 weeks in advance!

      @thesuakus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Belinda! Glad you found them informative! 🥰 All our Laminates are from Lamitak. We shared more about our Lamitak laminates in our Walk-in-Wardrobe episode 😀 Most of our laminates are Lamitak Core (Nude). The Core series is good for light colours as it has white instead of brown edges/backing. For high contact areas, we use the Lamitak Pro series (Nude/Taupe) which comes with high scratch/stain resistance. Our kitchen, dining and baywindow carpentry are Lamitak Mood colour 😀

      Thank you so much for your support! I guess most of the time it really depends on the contractors that the ID engages - right down to the individual. but they only clean the floor and cost 100 more? i think you probably need both
    and why cant they add another piece of board on top of your cove and plaster it smooth... lazy la.. not cannot most likely.

    • @thesuakus
      @thesuakus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I think it depends on your luck on how "general" the cleaner would be. The first time our ID's vendor came, he was here for only about 2 hours and he just splash water around as shown😅 Didn't even touch the windows or cove etc. I guess he was smart to suddenly appear ahead of the scheduled day so as to avoid us being present. Likewise, a similar tactic seemed to be deployed when they were supposed to come on the day before our moving day. Kept delaying until midnight because they know we won't stay around... 🤭I guess if you do self-cleaning over time (even after moving in) probably better results as it is your own home. As for deep floor cleaning, it's a must-have especially for those with vinyl. The difference is stark...
      Yalor we also asked the same thing to our ID - we thought they could simply plaster the insides but the vendor gave a curt response saying no... 😶

      Yalor... for our next home, we will definitely go down contractor route. No point going through an ID firm's blackbox of vendors that cost more with uncertain quality... all the vendors that we self-engaged (eg marble gum, sliding glass door, etc.) were fantastic!

  • @basic7788

    This is the correct way to mount false ceiling -> th-cam.com/video/RHuT3_vloqw/w-d-xo.html . Look at all the joints are perfect and clean. Each hanger rod can be adjusted independently. You will need to pay the right price. I can only comment local contractors have plenty of rooms for improvements.

    • @thesuakus
      @thesuakus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow that video series is a perfectionist's dream! We were telling ourselves, maybe for curved cove ceilings it will not be as neat. Agree that there is plenty of room to modernise alot of our local practices and techniques, especially tiling works. Hoping that through this reno series, we can help to raise more awareness to fellow sua ku homeowners so that they can ask their vendors better questions and over time, increase our local standards and quality!
