My sister had one of these when I was in high school and I used to drive it around a lot. This video is bringing back fun memories of all the random little things that were wrong with it. The tire pressure light you can see in this video turned on after a few weeks of ownership and never turned off again, no matter what we (or the dealer) did... the horrible gauge cluster screen that so many important car functions were inexplicably hidden behind... the obnoxiously fragile, 1mm thick plastic ring around the center volume knob that we replaced a thousand times and never lasted longer than a week... and yes, as this video shows, the car was just plain slow, but I always thought the steering on a Jetta was miles better than it deserved to be. Feels more like a BMW than a lot of newer Audis 🤣
i drove my best friend alexas jetta, it truly is a nice little car. we were going like 70 ish on the highway, even with the foot to the floor it took a good bit to even reach 90. these are good little cars, but they are not quick by any means.
@Fraser At least before, you were getting a car with sketchy reliability that felt substantial and premium. VW has been building cars that feel like rental cars for about a decade now and are only slightly more reliable than before. I bet their U.S. market cars have huge profit margins compared to their European offerings because every one of their products that they sell in the U.K. looks desirable. Here in the U.S. VWs feel like Chevys from the Great Recession
@Fraser they pay more for a higher quality interior.. also, the EA888 motor is legendary and has won many best engine of the year awards, it's in many Volkswagens including the GTI and Golf R, their 2.0 turbo and 1.8 turbo motors
@Fraser Sounds like someone is awfully biased here and doesn’t know shit about cars. You say you’re aware of the EA888’s accomplishments but also go on to criticize it being unreliable. So you’re contradicting yourself here. Just say you’re a JDM fanboy and be done with this discussion. The fact that you had to write two paragraphs of VW unreliability even proves my point. VW makes strong motors just like everyone else and if you don’t maintain the motor just like everyone else. Parts will fail. The EA888 is also known for being able to pump quite a bit of power on stock internals too. But I guess we’re also going to ignore that part as well.
I owned one of these, it was stellar at being economical, not fast by any means but enough to get you from point a to b with at least a semblance of a smile
Slow, but the turbo made low end power reasonable for a economy car.
Not even all that bad for a 1.4T
The 1.8T isn’t bad
Yeah, good torque at lower RPMS.
So you guys never drove vw 1.6D . In Croatia this is lightning fast
not terrible for a small motor
Not bad. At least it’s not as slow As a fully loaded semi truck.
It’s pretty cool
You think this is bad?? Try the 2.0 Jetta with 115hp LOL
Or the 2.5
@@GO5_X5_Guy the 2.5 isn’t that slow.
@@00lexuses300 Not as slow as the 2.0 but not fast by any means.
@@GO5_X5_Guy right. Agreed but at least the 2.5 has some pep.
If you think that’s bad just look at the Nissan Xterra. 🐌 I tell you.
welcome to Europe
probably faster than my 2016 Nissan Sentra lol

Lmfao my sister has a 2017 Passat and that tire light never turns off surprisingly my golf rarley ever had it on
maybe you don’t know how to read an owners manual the tire pressure light you have to turn off😂
Low tire pressure might affect 0-60 times
Guarantee you that's the sensor and not the tires. Jetta problems.
I have this car, but the 2017 model, it gets better acceleration if you put it into manual mode & use 93 octane
the 1.8 was the engine to have in the non GLI Jettas

I’ve heard it’s more reliable than the 1.8T it replaced

@@garrettw99 they have the same interiors as Europe mate. You're tripping 5 ways to Sunday.
@@garrettw99 In the UK the products are the same. They are not premium cars. Volkswagen has lowered interior material quality for the Mk8 Golf.

The peoples car
They don't call it 1.4 TSI?
I owned one of these, it was stellar at being economical, not fast by any means but enough to get you from point a to b with at least a semblance of a smile
I enjoyed it!
First
All that 6,500RPM shifting for what 😭 didn’t make it faster
Gets great MPG and is quick enough
Those engines are not very good for reliability.
they are fine
Terrible car, miserable to drive and own.
Ok Mercedes cuck you probably drive a 1998 A class
Yeah, what new cars would you buy rn with a budget of $35k, and then $40k?
@@roboticvenom1935 Probably a 330i.
