How To Die At Waterford Hills

  • This was by far the closest close call I've ever had. I legitimately wasn't scared at all in the moment, but going back the day after to grab the video had me pretty shaken up. Very grateful to have driven through this fully unscathed.
Going into this event I had decided that I was going to specifically work on pushing this corner, and knowing that it's by far the most dangerous corner I've run on any track I knew there was a good chance something bad might happen. In this session I was experimenting with rolling more speed in and trying to take it without braking. The previous lap had a bit of a wiggle and I had to abort, but I thought I could still make it work if I could find the right combination of line and timing. On this lap I was doomed from the moment I turned the steering wheel, reviewing the footage just makes me feel dumb.
Immediately following this video I checked my tire beads, went straight back out onto the track and actually hit my target time immediately. I did end up making good progress on this corner, picking up speed and consistency, but it came from a completely different approach. I simply found the better line, developed more trust in the car and committed to throttle earlier. Settling the car on entry with light braking was a key component, and trying to roll in with a lift was a stupid idea that I should have known wouldn't work.
A lift-only entry might work once I have aero set up and dialed in down the line. Honestly it may even be possible with just RT660s and some alignment changes. Coming this close to totaling my car definitely made an impression looking back on it, but there's probably something wrong with my brain because I know that it isn't going to stop me from continuing to push here.

Been there lol. Except in my case my S2000 snap oversteered on me at big bend and I slid into the inside and knocked out 2 cones

June 2019 I tapped the tire wall in that exact location. You were fortunate to miss the same.

Ughh I'm sorry to hear that. Looking back at the footage has me pretty shaken up about how close a call it really was, if I'd touched the tires at all it just would have been over.

th-cam.com/video/aUuzQnmIUsk/w-d-xo.html This is what happens with it's not a near miss. My racing buddy Taylor found out when not to go flat there. The turn is like that with the wall because of the houses behind.
