😎👍 I always tell everybody who enjoys this film to also check out "Rise Of The Guardians" (2012), not to be confused with "Legend Of The Guardians" (2010) or for that matter, "Guardians Of The Galaxy" (2014) which are both also good, but entirely different movies. It not only features Santa Claus as a protagonist, but also The Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy, so it isn't strictly a Christmas movie, and can be enjoyed all year 'round. There's nothing more fun than watching you watching something else. 😉
Klaus definitely deserved the Oscar. The Academy Awards voters clearly don't take the best animated picture category seriously. I saw an article that featured selected comments from Academy members that confirmed what I already suspected, which is that a lot of them don't even bother to watch the movies but instead will just automatically vote for whatever Pixar or Disney came out with that year and/or whatever their kids liked best. It's infuriating. I can understand why the Oscars aren't as respected as they once were.

The language that she and her family speaks is Northern Saami, one of the native languages of the Saami people (the native people of Norway, Sweden, Finland and some parts of Russia) and the clothes that they wear are inspired by gaktis which is our peoples clothing. Where they live is also inspired by Lavvus, which is a significant part of our culture. Seeing stuff like this in such big movies is always so surreal to me, because there are so few people who even know of us and our culture. Another example of a movie with characters inspired by the Saami is Frozen 2, where the Northuldra are inspired by our culture

This films is a masterpiece. I get teary eyed every time. I love that it isn't an origin of Christmas but an origin of the legend of Klaus. There is no magic up until that one unexplained miracle. That last line that Jesper says chokes me up. It's perfect.

Great reaction! Klaus has become one of my favorite Christmas movies and one I watch every year now. The movie makes me cry several times throughout and I'm in tears again by the end. Such a wonderful movie. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
So to summarize the movie; Christmas is an annual one night a year friendly haunting. Jokes aside I loved the movie, it quickly became one of my favorite christmas movies. The animation style was beautiful, it was awesome to see what the animators had pulled off. The comedy was great, it established itself as how your letters to santa became a tradition and then confused with it's initial introduction of the main character and gave a town that upon arrival contrasted starkly with what we'd expect from a christmas movie and I loved the Ferryman's antics. And then the fucking heart, man it really got me to like these characters and feel for klaus when his backstory was revealed. They did a good job on pacing, really allowed us to be amused by the town and characters while vaguely hinting at his backstory with the big guy's sparse initial dialogue before they actually revealed it. Plus I feel like they're one of the few movies that does the 3rd act conflict right, their response to Jesper's manipulations being revealed was completely reasonable, while he did change he was originally absolutely using them at first. He was using Klaus and his barn of old toys to get the kids to send letters and Ava to teach them (which did lead to her using her savings to refurbish and touch up the school) which when his earlier lies and manipulations are brought to bear begs to question where that ends and the real him begins, whether none of it was real or genuine rather than manipulation. We as the viewers know that he changed but these characters had no evidence themselves. The best part, the real nail on the coffin that really sunk that in if the other stuff was negligible is my favorite set up; "Everyone's out to get something", when he first said that Klaus could see that as possibly just skepticism but when caught in his lies and manipulations really bit him in the ass.
Oh yesssss, what a charming new Christmas classic! This was such a surprise watch for me. The voice cast, the pace, the style, the comedy, the insane amount of heart, it just works incredibly for me.

They brightly clothed folks are Sami, indigenous people of the north of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. I believe that's their language being spoken as well, sure sounds like it. Hopefully they felt represented by this movie. God knows they haven't had the best of time historically, as with many native people.
This movie is one of the few that can make me freaking cry, first him and his wife not having kids then losing her, the new adopted family he gets then his im coming love and the once a year I get to see my friend. This was so well done.
Before it became the holiday we know today, Christmas was just a bank holiday people sometimes used to get a day off. That changed largely due to A Christmas Carol.
One of my favorite facts about this movie is that they used CG shading techniques on their completely 2-D hand drawn animation. Of course there are a few places where they used 3-D models, but it's mostly 2-D hand drawn! It was definitely a labor of love, and you can tell by how good it is!

Christmas may be one day, but if we hold onto its pure core, we can make that spirit last through the year within us and each other.

So it's not a real law, but operating instructions they have here.
