Basically his worst quality is his temper is extreme and he’s a threat when extremely emotional. But his best quality is the fact that he has emotions because without them he’d just be a psychopath with no reason. So overall he’s still definitely a bad guy in every sense who doesn’t deserve sympathy but he’s not the worst
Bury the hatchet from Michael's perspective is ingrained in my heart man. The relaxing song playing, as Michael drives through north Yankton, voices of the past tormenting him. It was not only like a video game cutscene. It felt like a movie. Like art.
RDR2 borrowed similarities from Bury the Hatchet when Arthur made it back to New Hanover from Guarma. A slow ride back, great music, the past voices tormenting him. Both are *mwah* chefs kiss!
@@nathanialnorman7848 Michael and Max: - Bullet Time - Depressed, cynical, fat alcoholics - After they thought everything was over, things get crazier 9 years later - Same taste in grey suits and Hawaiian shirts - Works towards calm, peaceful lives The main difference is that Michael was able to get home in time to save his wife and daughter (Meltdown), same can’t be said for Max
I love how franklin and lester are like weirdly tight, they probably don't go out for drinks or anything but after their first few interactions they're always just like "oh hey what's up man good to see you" it's like the one wholesome relationship in the game
Kind of like seeing your local shop owner or somewhere you frequent alot where you have a pleasant experience with someone, you wouldn't hang out with em but you respect their differences and they respect yours, you'd probably help eachother out if one really asked for it but other then that they're just someone you see from time to time 😂 I work in a weed store so I have that experience with a lot of regular customers This one fresh off the boat african guy seen me for the first time in 2 years cause u quit the industry to do some trades n make some more money but now I'm back at a ma n pa shop n he gave me a big hug today and was like oh bruddah I misst you sew much oh bro I tell erybody you here 😂😂
They had a great professional relationship. While Michael was personal friends with Lester and I think Lester and Trevor were also friends (albeit it was less tight than with Michael because Trevor terrified him but they got along more than professionally I think, even if only for sharing the same friend group), Lester approached Franklin purely on work terms and they got on great with those terms. It helped that while Lester was introduced to Franklin by Michael, he approached him for further work by himself after the first recommendation. Though with that said, Lester having drinks with Franklin after the bureau raid I think shows that they could have become actual friends if they worked together long enough, even if through Michael (similar to Trevor) and maybe they did eventually become friends after everything was said and done. But during the game it's a professional relationship, but a good professional relationship.
They clearly at least respect each other greatly. Franklin sticking up for lester while trevor is planning the merrywether raid, and then Lester buying franklin the mansion (even if just for tax purposes), and immediately agreeing to help with lamar down shows this.
@@getbeaned1538it's not Amanda. Brad's line is just a hint at how much an asshole he is because the only reason he can imagine Michael would kill someone is because of sexual dissatisfaction.
I have a theory, when he learned that Michael had some "son I never had" feelings toward Franklin, Trevor decided to care for Franklin like he cared for Michael's actual kids. I think that's why he wouldn't shoot or fight Franklin during option A. 😢
Plus, when T met F, F was still just a hot-shot with just one or two scores to his name. As in with a lot of cases (Families, friendship groups, drug gangs etc.), it is the responsibility of the old, the seasoned, and the experienced to be there for the young, the new guys, and the inexperienced. Trevor, being a man who took scores, knew this very well just as Michael did. The best way to cement that responsibility and carry it out is to build a bond, which he did.
Gotta say much respect for Theprofessional. No clickbait just 2 hours of pure lore and actual facts to back up what he says. This is the best GTA V lore video I've ever seen.
The whole point of Michael helping the FIB in the game is the fact that if Dave gets fired the feds will look up his files and see that Michael is not dead people really didn't paid attention on the game
Media literacy seems to be going the way of the dodo the last few years. LIke, the only thing about Michaels and Daves relationship that i misremembered until i replayed it some days ago was that i thought that Dave at found Michael on accident and cut him that deal, not that Michael was bribing Dave to look the other way, but that is just a minor detail. People not getting the whole jist of why Michael lets himself be pressured by the FIB when they spell it out multiple times is a bit depressing.
Bruh really like seriously , every player already knew that because what in the actual f why Micheal would help him , Dave literally said he gonna lose his job and Micheal will get exposed and he can't do nothing about maybe you try to play the game as a normal human being
Gotta love how Michael goes after his son for being lazy and playing games while he essentially boasts about all the horrible things he’s done all the while making excuses about it as well, really shows you what kind of person he is right from the start.
Yes. A conceited fool trying to look in so that he can find the source of his pain. Eventually both start to do better for themselves but at the start both are a mess.
He's in a tough spot to be a parent, he's essentially taught his kid that stealing and robbing is okay as long as you don't get caught, he raised his children to be careless and now his children don't care about their future, Michael wants them to grow up normally and get a job and so on, but the values he taught his kids are the exact opposite, so the whole time he's basically fighting himself and his own parenting
The fact the Michael sincerely apologized to Trevor at the very end and offered his cut of the biggest heist in history Trevor, this shows how much growth Michael has over the coarse of the game. Michael is selfish, arrogant but as time goes on he starts to see the error of his ways. This is especially true when we hear dialogue between Michael and Franklin concerning Michael's selfishness. I love the fact that this ending is canon because ALL the characters grow to become slightly better versions of themselves in this ending. Excellent work, happy gaming ✌️
It's crazy it's like option C was mostly supposed to be the REAL ending. Rockstar should've just done that, it's the only option that makes sense considering everything that happened 💯💯💯
Funny fact: If you hang out with Michael either as Trevor or Franklin and if you get busted in front of Michael he quotes Brad, he’ll send a text saying “Every man for himself when the cops show up.” We all know that’s what Brad says in Prologue during the shootout on the way to the getaway car!
I am AMAZED by the Brad's breakdown just by a smile, a few lines of him and the way the characters refer to Brad as. Insane conclusions from a character that didn't have more than 10 minutes on screen, yet all of these conclusions make sense. Truly an amazing video, tons of research. Keep up the good work!
Well that is definately proof of subtle character building. Some games tend to do that. I remember breaking down character by mannerisms and tone of voice for said lines. Or presentation. You can do many things with non verbal means.
What would you do if you were Franklin I would mind my business if I was Franklin Clinton Franklin is the only protagonist not from the Midwest in GTA V
The real tragedy of Brad’s death was the effect it had on Michael and Trevor’s friendship. Honestly, from everything we hear about Brad in the story, and what little we saw of him in the Prologue, I can tell he’s a character I wouldn’t give two shits about. Like Hilary King from Vice City: I didn’t give a damn about either character, and I was honestly kinda happy when they died in their respective heists
@@Rick-to8tq The only reason I brought him up was because of this hilarious top comment on the VC bank heist video on GTA Series Videos' channel. They were ranting about how Hilary was the most useless character R* ever created, and someone in the replies brought up Brad

Does he though? He routinely threatens and bullies Wade and Ron, despite those two being the most loyal people to him over the course of the entire (even if Ron is just a sniveling coward and Wade a dim-witted fool). He had a solid deal going with The Lost for years that he simply threw out of the window on a whim for no reason at all. People don't like to admit that Michael made the most sensible choice here.
@@Donnerbalken28 thank you not to mention a lot of the chaos he caused was for no reason. Micheal and Franklin just wanted to do enough jobs to make enough money and sit back and live off it Trevor was 24/7 insanity and he had every government agency plus a private military on his ass
Sometimes a man who sticks to his principles. No matter what tends to be considered the most insane man in the world. Because how can a man who is unwilling to bend or break? Be considered normal in a world where everyone must make concessions for everyone else. The one man who will stick by his guns and never waver from his morals is then considered the madman. However it is trevor and his morals tend to Run along the concept of the Neck tie and bacon orange & blue scale. But regardless of that, he is still one who will be always loyal to his own personal morals to the very end.
Me too. Deathwish is what I always choose when I play this because Trevor never wanted to kill Michael because when I first stated the game, I was 80% certain that he wouldn’t pull the trigger during the bury the hatchet mission. Also, Trevor loved Michael like a brother and they go way back. The reason why I didn’t kill Michael in the game is because he had to betray the people he knew due to protecting his family, and it was a selfish risk he had to take. As Michael once said, “when you walk, your legs they just give. One day, you just can’t run anymore.” We all know that it’s a metaphor, and I can tell that Michael felt so guilt of betraying everyone due to when his family left him in the middle of the story. He was having signs of ptsd of when brad died, and so much that he went through. I knew Devin was manipulating Franklin due to telling him that he betrayed everyone he knew and got him “involved” with the feds. One, Michael never wanted to get Franklin involved with there feds because they will use him as they used Michael. Two, Michael was being real and honest with Franklin from the very start due to treating Franklin like a son and getting him involved in jobs that made him a lot of money. Why I didn’t kill Trevor in the game was because due to his loyalty and how much he cares about Michael.
When Michael refers to human stew he is literally talking about the mission cutscene where he tries to give Micheal that food with the eyelid in it. In a way he is right about Trevor's limit to how far he can go delivering pain to others in a sadistic manner.
A bit random, but I’ve actually just realised some similarities between Trevor and Niko: both troubled individuals who are cold-blooded killers, both joined the army (or at least tried to) but that didn’t go so well for them, so then turned to crime after. Maybe I’m thinking too much on this, but the parallels between the GTA 5 Prologue and Niko’s past kinda blew my mind: A crew was carrying out a mission, but they were both walked into an ambush because someone betrayed the group (Michael and Darko), some were killed (Brad and the other 12 soldiers) and some unintentionally escaped (Niko, Florian, and Trevor). About a decade later, the survivors go searching for the traitor, and have a major confrontation in the best story-related missions from each respective game (That Special Someone and Bury The Hatchet). Just thought I’d point that out
Yea except Trevor is basically Niko with his freeroam psychopathy added in (Niko tends to act like a psychopath in free roam, when you kill people or run them over he has a very interesting lets just say, response to it.)
@@greenwizard7592 I don't think so. NIko was war veteran - at pretty brutal and violent war at that. After that he probably has PTSD. I think every time he was shooting to other people he had another episode of trauma. "It's you or me" and his screams mean that to me.
This game is almost 10 years old and I’m still learning new things. Great video. You put more work into than Rockstar does into fixing GTA Online. And I never noticed how evil and sadistic Brad was. If even Trevor is disgusted by your actions, you know you’re bad.
I do like that in some sort of way, Franklin and Lamar are making Trevor and Michael sort of question their rash decisions and ignore their excuses for either one. From Michael's betrayal, to Trevor leaving Michael for dead in retaliation. It just goes to show how important and integral all of these characters are to the story and I like that
Yeah, i think that Franklin and Lamars Relationship, even though they fight and have a lot of problems, shows trevor and michael how theres a different way to resolve it and learn to forgive because, shit, youre friends after all. I think thats also why they say it in Ending C. Where Trevor starts with: "Go on with our lives as friends" or something along those lines. I think franklins line about "They got him scared about the middle ages" also shows how franklin is thinking like: "Man, think about me beeing in this much trouble everytime I have a dispute with lamar" I think if you look a little bit more into what the characters are saying and dont just take everything for normal banter, this story is way better than a lot of people give it credit for.
Trevor is really well written, he's like a regular good guy who gets dropped into the dystopian reality of a GTA world and who went insane because of it
I see as more like everyone else is driven to insanity by the GTA universe but Trevor was already insane so it didn't affect him as much. Sort of a "You merely adopted it, I was born into it" kinda thing. You can't be driven to insanity when you're already there.
I think this is an important thing so many people miss with Trevor. The first person he killed (outside of maybe some drifters, but personally I don’t think that was a serious comment) was the older guy chasing Micheal. I think the parallel between Trevor and Franklin is so powerful. Trevor was the first guy Micheal took in and led down this dark road, while Franklin is just yet another guy. Micheal is the truly evil one, he is the guy getting these young kids involved with promises of riches and excitement only for it always come falling down as soon as said protégés realize that Micheal will never actually give a shit about them and will happily sell them out as soon as it become profitable for them. And everyone around him (Micheal) eventually realizes this, from Trevor to Lester to his family to even Franklin, but often too late to actually protect themselves from him.
I think of trevor as the meta average GTA player. You start off at the bottom, a wacky criminal that just wants to play with guns and vehicles... and a hatred of the anti-fun police. Then you maybe get a bit bored, run some side missions, find some old lady character oddly wholesome. You enjoy mocking the stereotypes the game is already mocking. every once in a while you slip back into that bottomless game fantasy and do a bunch of drugs or commit violence for fun. after all, Trevors dream was to be in the military and blow things up. Hes basically a COD gamer who's parents bought him the wrong game.
9:50 I don't think Trevor was referring to this little aircraft, it's easy to forget but there was a high-winged twin-engine aircraft in GTA San Andreas that is named "Beagle", I believe that was the plane Trevor was referring to.
Would make a lot more sense than referring to a real life brand, which GTA never does. Besides, Los Santos and Blaine County originated in that game, not too much of a stretch to think they'd directly name a vehicle from it that isn't in V (it's only 1/4 of the state of SA anyway).
I believe there's reason to Trevor mentioning Brad so much early in the game up until he finds out he's dead. Specifically at 32:51 Trevor makes the "I have nothing, nobody cares about me" comment. Given his rough childhood and later abandonment by his best friend Michael, it's fair to assume Trevor has severe abandonment issues. This causes Trevor to think that he wants Brad back out of prison because it's someone he shared good times with and is hopeful that Brad thought of him as a friend rather than an associate. Brad, similarly to Trevor, is a fan of violence, as noted by Trevor before the Paleto Score and shown in the getaway vehicle in Prologue. Michael "went soft" and saw the other side of things that Trevor couldn't, thus was the reason he eventually wanted to replace Michael with Brad. After Trevor finds out the truth later on in Bury the Hatchet, he has plenty of time to think and finally realizes late in the game that Michael was the better man, both mentally and emotionally, and probably saw some of Michael's logic for faking his death, such as the family aspect. The cloud that is a yearning for Brad's company and friendship fades around that time as well when Trevor comes to terms and sees through his own moral struggle to realize that Brad is just as bad, if arguably not worse than Michael. Brad has little to no morals, no care for others and is a loser who was doomed to die eventually due to his anger and dimwitted justification for his actions. It's actually a great final example of Trevor's growth and maturity as a character for making this decision in the end.
Despite Michael's double cross, Trevor still realises that Michael has family and he never wanted to destroy his best friends' families, Michael changed from selfish to selfless, even if Brad didn't die, he is still the biggest line crosser and Psychopath in the Heist Crew (crossing lines even Michael would never cross) who would've gotten Trevor killed anyway and the Triads, Merryweather, the Ballas and the Feds did way worse things than Michael ever did
yeah alot of people seem to misunderstand gta 5s story. After the mission meltdown where Michael takes on an bunch of mercenaries to save his family you can tell he is changing for the better. People can change and I think that's what trevor realized
Patricia did once tell Trevor "Old friends can't be replaced" I think he thought of what she said and decided to stick by Michael De Santa again she is kind of like his mother to him It would be interesting to see her stick up for Trevor Phillips against his mother in that side mission even though it was not real
Usually ppl see Trevor for a mad dog. But he is a desperate lonely soul that the world fkd over in his formative and early adulthood. You notice in the graveyard scene he did not shoot Michael? But instead he asked Michael to shoot. He wants "suicide by cop". He wants to end it and make the pain go away for good. If he really truly hated Mikey, he would have blasted him full of holes for the crazy killer he is.
I mean I do get it. Just because he has the saddest backstory and a lot more character development beyond just being crazy, it doesn’t mean he all of a sudden isn’t a bad person
I think considering the totality of everything Trevor does during the single player story, he's probably the single most dangerous individual on planet Earth. He's got practically unending ambition, and is almost completely unpredictable and ruthless, he can literally become so angry he can't die. I know it's a video game and all, but man. He's capable of extreme amounts of damage.
I thought it was said in a roundabout way that the bullet that killed Brad, was meant for Trevor, but when Brad was killed instead, they went with plan B, which was Michael faking his death, and pretending Brad was in jail
There was no plan B. Trevor and Michael were supposed to get shot, with Trevor dying and Michael starting a new life the same way, and Brad being a dumber and less capable version of Trevor would’ve either died in the following shootout (the one Trevor escapes from) or he would’ve been arrested or caught later down the line but he wasn’t as much a priority as Trevor and Michael who were the bigger targets of the crew. When Brad got shot instead and Trevor ran out of sight was when they followed through with the plan and had Michael shot. There was no plan B it was supposed to be a quick and clean job but it went wrong and thus we have a story. If it went to plan we wouldn’t have a story
@@jerm70 Hell no. From what we see of Brad he’s literally a dumber version of Trevor. Trevor wasn’t fully insane in that mission either he really descends into insanity after the time skip. And being insane doesn’t make you “dumb” necessarily because Trevor in the main story is shown to actually be calculating despite his nature. But everyone always talks about how dumb and how much of a prick Brad was, he was essentially a discount version of Trevor
This kind of stuff is really why people should wait until they’re adults to play this game so they can actually understand what’s going on. It became painfully obvious, at least it was to me, that this was the case on my second playthrough of GTA V. So many references are made to this being the plan all along, there was no plan B, Michael’s fake death was planned from the start, Trevor was supposed to get killed. They didn’t care about Brad. Michael’s deal with Dave involved him faking his death and selling out Trevor’s life so he could get out.
The theory about "If Brad lived" thing does sound true. If Trevor was the one who died instead of Brad then the story might be him being the big antagonist in this game because who knows, he could've probably formed a high ranking criminal organization, be some sort of serial killer or just the biggest rat like Micah from RDR2. Really wish Rockstar made Single Player DLC's for this game..
I doubt Brad would have the smarts to form a criminal organisation, but the other two possibilities are highly plausible. Brad definitely has a handful of similarities to Micah. As for that last point, I agree 💯. A decade later and I’m still bummed we never got a single player DLC ☹️
Gotta give it to you man. Me saying "you've put a lot of work to this video" is an understatement. Hard to believe this game is already 10 years old and there are still new details and undiscovered dialogue I learned just now. More power to you and your channel!
Trevor may be an unhinged lunatic but he's certainly the most loyal character in GTA V, i also think he had a tragic upbringing and that makes me feel a lot of sympathy for him.
I mean I have sympathy for him, but he has killed friends and family of his own "friends"(like cletus' cousin). barring michael's family, trevor has been known to have a loose fuse hence why michael feared for himself and his own family. I think this is also partially why Trevor didn't kill him, because he knows that he is psychotic and has hurt his own friends before.
@@KingofDiamonds117 I feel like loyalty is one of the only redeeming factors of Trevor (as in loyal to Michael and Franklin at least), and the fact that he’s apparently respectful or women, but even I find that to be not really true. Otherwise he’s a crazy drug-dealing cannibal who is very mentally unhinged. In the end, I like Trevor in the same way as how I like the Joker, but I don’t tend to think about how bad his upbringing is due to his actions, otherwise I like him because he is crazy. Then again I really need to complete the GTA5 story again to remember fully.
I believe Brad is more similar to Dimitri than he is to Micah. Like Brad is a literal Psychopath just like Dimitri who makes people praise his personality more effectively (just like Dimitri) than Micah ever can.
Brad is basically a more stupider version of Dimitri Rascalov. Where Dimitri manipulates and pretends to be reasonable . Brad is more open about the type of person he is .
@@theprofessional155 Honestly, like the original comment says. Brad feels more like Micah Bell than Dimitri Rascalov: Blond, bloodthirsty criminals who enjoy the violence of heists. Neither were well liked by their respective crews, and in the end, they were both massive liabilities to their gangs. Hell, the way Brad treated that woman in the Prologue reminds me of how Micah treated Sadie in the first mission of RDR2
Eh he’s more like Bill if anything. The way Lester describes him is exactly like Bill, lazy, stupid, forgetful, and mean. Both are capable of sadistic acts and take pleasure in it like Bill likes torturing Kieran and his acts in rdr1 to his victims. Brad isn’t intelligent enough to be like Dimitri or even Micah (who’s actually a lot smarter than people are willing to give him credit for)
Truth is Michael never got to know Trevor during their time before the Prologue. For Michael, his vision of Trevor was a psychopath with no restrain. Michael was wary of him that's why he didn't trust him whatsoever. Perhaps he thought Trevor was at the same level of scumbag as Brad, but then he realized that his loyalty was true, same for his care about his family and friends. In the end Michael ask for forgiveness because he knew it was a bad judgment call and he stopepd being selfish. It was a good character development.
nah he knew Trevor for quite awhile. Trevor mentioned that he met Michael even before Michael met Amanda. It can also explain why Michael's kids like Trevor more than Michael for the most part. They even called eachother "bestfriends" Its just that Trevor acted so recklessly most of the time while Michael grew up and realized he's got more to lose.
You could tell Trevor loved Michaels family when he wanted to kill lazlow for that stunt with Tracy. Never tick off a psychopath uncle cause we will go after you lol
I've been playing this game since it released, and I never caught on to the fact that Brad is sadistic. I also never noticed the way Micheal changes after Trevor dies. These little details make games so great and replayable, I'm genuinely glad that developers still take time to add them so that the players can spend literal years dissecting the plot and debating.
Let me just say I appreciate so much that you are willing to break down all these different circumstances in GTA lore without getting the urge to embellish the truth to make sure nobody has ever heard it before. Even if most people have a pretty good idea about something it's always enjoyable watching a video about it and even if they aren't the most groundbreaking discoveries it's always good to see all the small details that can be easily missed, without them being so small that most click baiters just decide to make up their own details.
I actually believed that Amanda was a hostage on my own, not because of the other people, but now that I think about it, I realized that she wasn't Edit: There's something else too. When Michael says in the flashbacks that it's either everyone dying, or one guy getting out, it shows that Amanda doesn't like that Michael is betraying his friends.
What I'll say about that woman being Amanda is that I know she isn't, but I hear she was Amanda's early character design, which is much more believable imo
@@ashhabimran239 dark viper discredits this in a good vid, but amanda prob didnt feel like moving her and her kids to LS. Hence why micheal is convincing her on the drive in yankton
@@zavenpapyan426I think it’s more than that, it’s highly risky. Michael has to fake his death and become a whole other person, this included his family. His family had to be known citizens where Michael was seen to be dead, then disappear to the other side of the country and have new identities. Michael mentioned a depot outside of town. He obviously lived there in the meantime but maybe his family lived there too so he could comfort his kids about the whole situation. Idk, but either way the deal did impose some danger to the family since Dave had to single handedly do the stuff behind the curtains.

This video not only educated me on Trevor and Michael's relationship, it also reinforced to me that Lamar is the best GTA character. Hell he's in my top ten favorite fictional characters now 🤣
Today I played again "Fame or Shame" and I don't remember if you mentioned in here, but when Mike and Trev reach Tracey and Lazlow is presenting her, you can see Trevor face like if he is proud. Trevor really feel Jimmy and Tracey like his family. Even when she reconizes Trevor and go to hugh him, Trevor feel happy for that and you can see on his face while his huging her.

I do really love the complexity of the 2 protagonists, where the real antagonists are themselves, that is so brillant - there are many layers of psychological complexity there. was hooked on the story from start to finish. thanks for the reminder, GTA V is a underrated storytelling masterpiece
It’s always nice to see this game’s story get more understanding and appreciation as time goes on, especially considering this game’s gonna be 10 years old later this year
No... Mike and Trevor are the protagonists due to them being the lead in the story. Neither of them can be antagonists because the antagonist goes againts the protagonist. Neither can be both the protagonist and the antagonist. Though, I think you meant to say there are two protagonists but both are villains. It is still not brilliant because it is not the first time it is done in a story, but also because the writers can't be that smart.
I don't think grand theft auto is underrated in any way like at all whatsoever Rockstar is basically king big dick when it comes to game studios, fuckin ea and ubisoft and Activision and all those Muppet companies ain't shit compared to rockstar Red dead redemption 2 set a new gold standard for gaming and nothing has been as detailed or had such a lively world since And gta v was very much the bones for what red dead 2 became
Rockstar is like ufotable or mappa, or like the Tarantino of video game making and everyone knows it Gta v did 1 billion in sales in 3 days Fuckin Avatar, lord of the rings, star wars, avengers , all could hope to do those type of numbers,
"I Mourned You" is one of my favorite linea by Trevor. It really shows he was heartbroken about losing brad and micheal his psuedo family. He also says "Nobody gives a fuck about me!" Just to add to how hurt he is inside
The more I watch at GTA V deconstruction videos like this, the more I'm convinced that GTA V has a much deeper depth that regular players wouldn't ever hope to be able to discover.

I think Trevor could've been not a bad guy, considering how strong his moral principles are. He have it in him, but all the crazy stuff comes, of course, from the childhood. He even talks about it and you can confirm it. He is mentally unstable (after all that), but who knows what kind of person he could've been if he had help at the right moment from the right people. I dunno, i kinda feel in his nature that he's a better person than Michael ever could've been. Not sure about Franklin, he seems the most sane out of all, and through the game making the most correct moral decisions and points.
Talking to a good friend about the GTA V protagonists, we both came to the conclusion that you can see "hints" of the good person Trevor could've been, if the childhood abuse, shattering of his Air Force dreams, lack of therapy, drug-addiction, and long-term career in criminal activity didn't mentally ruin him. He is a man of strong principles and values friendship above everything else, as seen in how he temporarily abandoned his "business" to learn the truth about Michael and his encouragement of Franklin to keep friends like Lamar around and to never trust "pros" who are just in it for the money. He hates racism and discrimination as seen in his insecurity for being Canadian and his interactions with the "Civil Border Patrol." He may hold more left-leaning or "Liberal" values since his idolized superhero is Impotent Rage. He "rescues" Mr. K (the torture victim) after torturing him under the orders of Steve Haines and shows that he thinks torture-interrogation is pointless and is purely for a power-trip by the torturer. Does any of this balance out his psychotic behavior and mass murder? Absolutely not. The world would be a better place without Trevor (the story mode Trevor prior to him "going Vinewood" as Ron puts it in GTA Online since he might have actually pulled himself together if this is true). However, you can see the strong principles he holds underneath the violence and madness, and if he wasn't so mentally scarred then those principles might have been able to manifest in healthier ways than how it is in the story mode.
@@LazarultosI started off hating Trevor but as the game went on I slowly saw his vulnerability and the man inside, and I began to really feel empathy for him. He is a true friend.
I seriously just watched the entire 2 hour video without skipping a single second. I got so taken by storm on the idea of what happened to Brad and all, truly an amazing story and an amazing documentary, thanks for the amazing video!
If you watch closely Trevor did shot Michael. but his gun Jammed, So he threw the gun at him, and you can hear the flick of the gun. And this is proof if your angry you can't control your self thus making unexpected decisions. but then Trevor really thought about it and decided not to kill Michael. AND OTHER THINGS WHICH YOU CAN HEAR FROM THE PROFESSIONAL! [Here is the clip] you need to hear the sound and the flick I could be hallucinating but I'm leaving it for you guys] 40:34 I could still be wrong but it's your choice!
I heard it too. I assumed it was that the gun was actually empty when he pulled the trigger. Whether empty or jammed, either of those possibilities come with their own set of theories. If it was empty, that could mean Trevor never intended to shoot Michael, but perhaps pulled the trigger as a reflex OR to prove it was empty. If jammed, then he did intend to shoot him but was hindered by the mechanical failure of the gun.
@@TBSxDRUMS he probably assumed that Michael would be dead anyways due to the chinese guys that came in, so he tried to give him a quick death to spare him from capture or whatever
It’s funny beacause at the beginning of the game I thought that michael was a kindhearted guy while Trevor was just insane and pure evil. At the ending I noticed that it is basically the other way around.
They both regularly rob people at gunpoint and murder people for personal gain, how is one pure evil but the other isn't? Yeah they both have psychological complexity to them in regards to who's more loyal and who's willing to do whatever in order to protect family members but trying to use that as a basis for one being more evil is just goofy, armed robbery is armed robbery and murder is murder.
Trevor is easy to sympathize with as an outsider looking in, but I imagine we'd feel differently if we actually had to _deal with_ someone like him irl. Then again, I can say the same for characters like Michael Franklin and Lamar.
Franklin is easily the tamest and stablest of the 3 characters, 4 if you're gonna count Lamar Davis, atleast he actively tries to be subtle and avoid violence whenever he's running a mission
@@LoverOfManyArts True, but that's also like saying being punched is favorable to being stabbed shot or burned. I'd still like to avoid the least harmful option if I can.
True, people often forget that while not enjoying it like Brad, T is an insane cannibalistic serial killer who as mentioned killed hikers. He can easily be in the same league as gacy, Dahmer or Zodiac, with the only differnenciating factor being Trevor was just very mentally ill while those names were psychos who enjoyed harming. The others look far more stable than him, none of them kill unless they have to unlike trevor who at that point is a real serial killer and severely lacks empathy(at least compared to the other 2) like we see in torture of that Azerbaijani guy. Also I don't suppose he smells very good either.
@@brownerjerry174I mean, you do know that psychopath as also have mental illness right? That's what a psychopath is my guy. I think Trevor's different than serial killers, but is still similar. Trevor kills people he thinks have wronged him, which can extend to random people that are against his principles
I can see the time and effort you put into this lore video professional just like every lore video you did but this one was longer you been working on this for a year I love your dedication
First of all, epic video! you explained things in the way which convinces that this is a real human story rather than a simulated story made for a game! Kudos to you! Secondly, 1:53:46 let’s be honest, if Michael didn’t do what he did i.e., betrayed, stayed away from Trevor, then this game couldn’t have been the same. The moment Trevor learned about Michael and came all the way from Sandy Shores to Los Santos was the heart of the whole story.
this video was definitely your best work Professional! i loved it from start to finish. you explain everything so thoroughly and don't bait people to watch your video like many other youtubers, i really have a respect for your honesty. i know these videos take long to make, but i am truly looking forward to the next one. i wish you a good day..
I highly prefer a video that takes it's time to explain an interesting topic at hand and this video really goes into so much detail. Better than those videos that explain things in minutes leaving out essential information. Good work on this!
My husband got me into this game- I never really played any of the GTAs (I played both RDRs), and I love this game so much. The characters are amazing, and loveable (even if they're psychopaths lol). The acting is amazing as well :} Great game. I find myself wanting to see more of their shenanigans. I also think Michael is a lot more remorseful about betraying Trevor than it appears to the player - I think it's the main reason he goes to therapy. He's deluded himself into finding excuses for all his crimes (Like you said in the beginning, how criminals like that often do), but the real thing that is making him manic is his betrayal to Trevor.
Finally the video to end all clickbaits!! What an amazing work, it’s good to see that someone cares and not just post speculation’s videos, you actually took the time to replay the game, to go to the optional activities for those special lines of dialogue that I’m sure 90% of players never heard about, you really honor your name as The Professional and have my upmost respect! Cheers.
1:26:20 i’ve played this game and watched youtube videos on the story for so long. Time and time again I get blown away by the amount of polish and bonus details put into the game.
Given Brad's sadistic personality, I've been thinking of this: What if Brad survives the Prologue (Dave's shot missed), gets rescued from prison by Michael and Trevor, then work together again in some heists before The Big One. However, later on he goes berserk and betray both of them upon finding out Michael's past actions with the FIB. Trevor was hesitant to pick a side, but eventually teamed with the "lesser dick" (Michael) and kill Brad before he have a chance to kill Michael's family (because Trevor cared for Jimmy and Tracey). He would be a better main antagonist than Devin and Steve combined
I love how Michael still was holding up his gun after Trevor put his down and than slowly starts to put it down but when Trevor turns around he puts it back up.
Ok not to be the guy making diagnosis on fictional characters, but near as I can tell; Michael & Franklin have socio/psychopathic tendencies, but since they clearly have emotions, just incredibly self-centred ones this puts them more around the area of dark empath, which is an umbrella term for people with antisocial personality disorders, but with too much empathy to be a sociopath or a psychopath. Trevor is schizophrenic and has severe childhood trauma, mostly triggered by betrayal, sexual assault, and substance abuses which appear to be a large part of his childhood experience, his diagnosis is the only one that is pretty much cut and dry across the whole franchise. Brad is a sociopath not a psychopath. Psychopaths are born & are able to hide themselves well because they learned to mask their lack of empathy early on, assuming it's a performance during childhood, but they can learn the morals of the world around them. Michael is from a trailer park, Trevor is from probably the worst households you could be born into, and Brad from what we know came from a nicer background, he never even committed crimes until he met Trevor who was the one who brought him into the crew, meaning his behaviour was not anything to do with his personal life or the way he grew up like Trevor & Michael's life paths. He was just an asshole, and he doesn't seem capable of hiding that fact around anyone even outside of crime. Since he can't mask, but also struggles with empathy, this would put him under the branch of sociopathy. Sociopaths are made, but a majority of the time have pre-existing hereditary tendencies that when exposed to trauma can have a reaction that causes damage to the empathy centre of the brain. Like for example I am a sociopath, I struggle to hide the fact that I am an asshole, uniquely I was born a sociopath, but that's because one of the traumas that caused damage to my empathy centre was brain damage from the birth itself, not a natural occurrence through my development as a foetus. I however, was raised to have morals like over half of the people with an antisocial disorder, it's just you can tell even with these morals that I can be an asshole and need other people's emotions explained better to me. Brad's might be because he engaged in crime due to pre-existing antisocial tendencies, and the shock damaged it further causing him to become a sociopath as a result of what he saw early in his career (he was rolling with Trevor first so he coulda seen some shit). Or he could've been an asshole at any point prior due to one or two events in his life causing trauma to his empathy centre. Either way he was a sociopathic asshole for most of their crew's career.
You nail the facts with these GTA lore videos. Hope for more to come (as well as more Medal of Honor playthrough or even taking on the Metal Gear series)
It took awhile for me to watch this fully but I really enjoyed it. I knew Brad was a awful person but I had no idea he was worse than Trevor and Michael. Well done on finding these details I wouldn't even think of catching in the game
I feel like if the GTA games had novelisations like Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of The Sith, a lot more would be delved into Brad and having paragraphs dedicated to what a piece of shit he is or getting a more fleshed out background for Tommy Vercetti before becoming a member of the Forellis.
This is honestly one of the best youtube videos I have ever seen. I really appreciate the insanely immense amount of work and time that went into making this video. All the hours of game play, the filming, the editing, the research, all of it, top shelf. Most importantly, I have a completely different view of the game and it's characters after watching this. I am a sucker for game lore, and I love this content. I look forward to watching more of your videos! You've got my subscription, based off of this video and your debra and floyd video, which was also really well made :)
I feel if Michael would've had a talk with Trevor as soon as thoughts crossed his mind about the future with him and brad , I feel that Trevor would have understood although he wouldn't agree with it.
@@romulusnuma116 Trevor only would have hated him for it if he didn't actually find happiness in it. Trevor's biggest thing of hating people is when they are living lies. If Michael actually legitimately was happy with his family, Trevor I think would understand. He hates Michael partly so much because he also faked his death and betrayed him just to live in existence that he now hates and that Trevor thinks is bullshit. I'm not saying that if he was actually happy and satisfied Trevor would have forgave him immediately but it didn't help the situation either that he wasn't making it worth while for himself.
The beagle mentioned by Trevor most likely is not the real life plane. It's most likely the Beagle plane from GTA San Andreas (yes that plane which spawns in a car driveway at a Fort Carson house, sometimes explodes). This could mean that this plane was supposed to be in gta v but then scrapped (or forgotten or renamed)
@@trevorphilips9065 Yep, except in his case he wasn't cornered, he just did it to get out of that life before he got cornered or killed, which was highly likely to happen with Psycho Trevor as his sidekick.
This honestly had to be the best and most detailed analysis that not only was informational but it honestly made me want to actually listen to the cutscenes
I've always felt really bad for Trevor. He came from a bad place, a bad and abusive family. Probably born with a damaged brain. His mom was addicted to a lot of bad substances and you can't tell me she really cared about being healthy during pregnancy. He was literally born to have a bad and hurtful life, surrauded by traitors and ppl who only cared about himself. He is not mad, he is just ill and hurt.
Short answer is he never really liked brad Long answer is that he was more upset that Michael lied about his death and made him believe Brad was alive the whole time. He also loved being apart of the gang because it felt like a family to him. So when he found out his best friend lied about his death and Brad being alive it's hard not to understand why he was so angry. Although he forgave Michael because he genuinely loves him like a brother and missed having him in his life. That also explains why he was so worried about where he would fit in Michael's life after the big heist.
@@gaugemogle0779 I think it would have been better if Brad attempted to kill Michael for the sake of abandoning the crew and Trevor for trying to side with Michael. Then you have Franklin who Brad tries to manipulate.

1:52:42, I hate to say you're wrong after all the effort that I saw you put in this video, but Trevor did say he was eventually gonna cut Michael off from their robberies and he was gonna run with Brad then, meaning if Michael had waited for a bit, he could have had his normal life and he wouldn't have to betray anyone.
One would think you wrote the script man. Outstanding work. I don’t even have anything to add. I feel like I’ve learned several life lessons throughout this masterpiece.
What a great analysis again! This made me have a new perspective on the story structure, the depth in the story and how the moral conflicts develop and conclude in the different endings. Bravo!
The past few days my opinion has changed on Trevor a little bit and maybe that is a good thing. Trevor is a smart dude, and he may be inane with some rough edges but under all those edges he is a very loyal and caring person who would die for the ones he is loyal to, and he values loyalty. Trevor is a good character with a lot of layers to him. I never understood the whole situation about him and Brad, but now I do and that is important to understand that about Trevor and his backstory.
Dont apologise for the 2hrs of video. It is a fine art to make a video for this. If anything, you are too modest. It really can play into his favor as well as against him.
Ironic that it is the best and worst quality for Trevor.
Well he is loyal but dangerous.
Just don't call him a motherfu*ker and you will be alright 😆
Basically his worst quality is his temper is extreme and he’s a threat when extremely emotional. But his best quality is the fact that he has emotions because without them he’d just be a psychopath with no reason. So overall he’s still definitely a bad guy in every sense who doesn’t deserve sympathy but he’s not the worst
Bury the hatchet from Michael's perspective is ingrained in my heart man. The relaxing song playing, as Michael drives through north Yankton, voices of the past tormenting him.
It was not only like a video game cutscene. It felt like a movie. Like art.

I love how franklin and lester are like weirdly tight, they probably don't go out for drinks or anything but after their first few interactions they're always just like "oh hey what's up man good to see you" it's like the one wholesome relationship in the game
Yeah i noticed that too
Kind of like seeing your local shop owner or somewhere you frequent alot where you have a pleasant experience with someone, you wouldn't hang out with em but you respect their differences and they respect yours, you'd probably help eachother out if one really asked for it but other then that they're just someone you see from time to time 😂
I work in a weed store so I have that experience with a lot of regular customers

Especially in the end of the "Big one"
1:36:33 I think Brad thinking Micheal killed that woman for sexual pleasure says more about his sadism than the rest of his lines

@@getbeaned1538it's not Amanda. Brad's line is just a hint at how much an asshole he is because the only reason he can imagine Michael would kill someone is because of sexual dissatisfaction.
I always liked hanging out with Trevor as Franklin.
I found it endearing how fast Trevor took to liking Franklin despite the circumstances.
I have a theory, when he learned that Michael had some "son I never had" feelings toward Franklin, Trevor decided to care for Franklin like he cared for Michael's actual kids. I think that's why he wouldn't shoot or fight Franklin during option A. 😢
Not to mention, Franklin was loyal and helpful to the group which was got Trevor to instantly care for him.

I always pick death wish too

I think franklins line about "They got him scared about the middle ages" also shows how franklin is thinking like: "Man, think about me beeing in this much trouble everytime I have a dispute with lamar"
I think if you look a little bit more into what the characters are saying and dont just take everything for normal banter, this story is way better than a lot of people give it credit for.
Trevor is really well written, he's like a regular good guy who gets dropped into the dystopian reality of a GTA world and who went insane because of it
😮💨
As insane as Trevor is, his Strangers and Freaks missions make him look completely sane and reasonable

New gta 5 daily game play
Would make a lot more sense than referring to a real life brand, which GTA never does. Besides, Los Santos and Blaine County originated in that game, not too much of a stretch to think they'd directly name a vehicle from it that isn't in V (it's only 1/4 of the state of SA anyway).
DAMN that’s some nice attention to detail…
Despite Michael's double cross, Trevor still realises that Michael has family and he never wanted to destroy his best friends' families, Michael changed from selfish to selfless, even if Brad didn't die, he is still the biggest line crosser and Psychopath in the Heist Crew (crossing lines even Michael would never cross) who would've gotten Trevor killed anyway and the Triads, Merryweather, the Ballas and the Feds did way worse things than Michael ever did

i feel so bad for trevor, he has the saddest backstory out of all 3 protagonists, i dont understand how people would rather kill trevor than Michael
They killed him for killing Johnny. The Protagonist from The Lost and Damned
Beacuse he is a evil person he is The Jeffrey Dahmer of GTA, even your Gta Online character is nervous around him and he is cold blooded as well.
@@josephstalin2606 Brad was smarter than Trevor. He just wasn't nearly as insane. Trevor needed to die to put a close to it all. It was all unlucky.
@@theshawshankinception1220 mmmm not really, you just gotta invest yourself 100% into the story to really understand it
The theory about "If Brad lived" thing does sound true.

So Brad is basically the Micah of the GTA universe. Except Micah tore the gang apart while being alive, Brad tore the gang apart with his death.
Brad isn’t intelligent enough to be like Dimitri or even Micah (who’s actually a lot smarter than people are willing to give him credit for)
@@ashhabimran239 imagine what he would have done to Sadie if Dutch and Arthur weren't there...
They even called eachother "bestfriends"
Its just that Trevor acted so recklessly most of the time while Michael grew up and realized he's got more to lose.
That's why they take so much time to made GTA 6

I actually believed that Amanda was a hostage on my own, not because of the other people, but now that I think about it, I realized that she wasn't
Edit: There's something else too.

@@zavenpapyan426I think it’s more than that, it’s highly risky. Michael has to fake his death and become a whole other person, this included his family. He obviously lived there in the meantime but maybe his family lived there too so he could comfort his kids about the whole situation. Neither of them can be antagonists because the antagonist goes againts the protagonist.

This is absolutely amazing, I love how passionate you are about your analysis and opinion. Literally the highest effort gaming video I have ever seen.
His rdr 2 also stands up for the best lore video ever.
I highly prefer a video that takes it's time to explain an interesting topic at hand and this video really goes into so much detail. Better than those videos that explain things in minutes leaving out essential information. Good work on this!
Excellent vid. Most people disregard how detailed the stories of GTA can, and you take the time to bring that lore out to light. Much appreciated.
Trevor is quite logical, he simply waited to see if michael would betray him in the end and he came to save him, the only proof he needed.
I love how credible you are on your videos and your personality
The fact that Trevor decided to forgive Michael for his betrayal 9 years ago. That’s a complication there.
They finally decided to Bury the Hatchet I guess
Ty eg. s I’m
A masterpiece to shut down all other clickbait videos. Great work The professional, and I deeply respect your dedication to make great videos!!
You did a fantastic job! All that hard work paid off and you explained Brad better than any of those clickbait vids well.
Just insane how good you are doing these lore videos, amazing work
I love how Michael still was holding up his gun after Trevor put his down and than slowly starts to put it down but when Trevor turns around he puts it back up.
Ok not to be the guy making diagnosis on fictional characters, but near as I can tell;
Michael & Franklin have socio/psychopathic tendencies, but since they clearly have emotions, just incredibly self-centred ones this puts them more around the area of dark empath, which is an umbrella term for people with antisocial personality disorders, but with too much empathy to be a sociopath or a psychopath.
Despite brad being a very mysterious character he seems like he’d be interesting enough to play as.
@@rayvenkman2087 oh man. If they had a gta novel I would probably read it in a heartbeat.
47:25 the part where Lamar said "Ohhh he lied to me" me and my brother were laughing about lol.
Well he would have been Trevor but he definitely wouldn't have wanted to kill him just mad that he went soft
In the world of crime being a traitor/rat is the most unforgivable thing
Also exceptional content 👏
Also a normal criminal action to do.
In the fantasy world of crime, that is the case,.In the real world of crime, traitor/rat is the first thing every criminal does when cornered.
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 Basically what Michael did
@@trevorphilips9065 Yep, except in his case he wasn't cornered, he just did it to get out of that life before he got cornered or killed, which was highly likely to happen with Psycho Trevor as his sidekick.
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 I mean he was being hunted so he was cornered
This honestly had to be the best and most detailed analysis that not only was informational but it honestly made me want to actually listen to the cutscenes
I've always felt really bad for Trevor. He came from a bad place, a bad and abusive family. Probably born with a damaged brain. His mom was addicted to a lot of bad substances and you can't tell me she really cared about being healthy during pregnancy. He was literally born to have a bad and hurtful life, surrauded by traitors and ppl who only cared about himself. He is not mad, he is just ill and hurt.
Short answer is he never really liked brad
Long answer is that he was more upset that Michael lied about his death and made him believe Brad was alive the whole time.
If Brad wasn’t shot and fast forward to 2013(GTA V Target Storyline) he would’ve been an antagonist
That would've honestly been better than Devin And the F.I.B as antagonist's
@@gaugemogle0779 And we would see Brad using the Dimitri tactic on Michael
@@Aidel1011True That would be cool and The choices if you play as Trevor would be Side with Brad or Side with Michael
@@gaugemogle0779 I think it would have been better if Brad attempted to kill Michael for the sake of abandoning the crew and Trevor for trying to side with Michael. Then you have Franklin who Brad tries to manipulate.
This video is definitely worth the wait. No need to apologise if youre gonna keep pumping out these extremely high quality lore videos. Have a good one man
1:52:42, I hate to say you're wrong after all the effort that I saw you put in this video, but Trevor did say he was eventually gonna cut Michael off from their robberies and he was gonna run with Brad then, meaning if Michael had waited for a bit, he could have had his normal life and he wouldn't have to betray anyone.
Well he didn’t know that
One would think you wrote the script man.
Trevor can't be insane. He has emotions and can feel remorse. I think he's just a very emotionally volatile and mentally unstable person.
i disagree. look at how he treats wade and ron, the two people who are the most loyal to him.
Dont apologise for the 2hrs of video. It is a fine art to make a video for this. If anything, you are too modest. Others might see 2 hrs of video, but I see days and months of manpower hours of hard work and passion put in to get the segment footages, commentary, research and editing as well as a script to put all these together to make sense. Good job on this video
NO! Dude, I love your videos, and I swear I'm a big fan. But I need to do this: @1:47:27 "More Smarter"
I get where the writing took you...but fugg me. My first grade English teacher is weeping in what I assume would be either her grave or a nursing home.
I'm watching you now...
Love the channel. Keep it up!
great vid! lots of research went into this.
