I've watched a lot of nerf "mod"ing videos over the past six months and I have to say this is the most well-explained mod videos I have seen out of 99% of them. Well done. And aside from a few focus issues, every detail was pointed out and easy to understand. Thank you for explaining in detail how the Strongarm functions, it made it much easier to then apply the mods and reassemble the blaster correctly. Only comment for making it just a touch more awesome than it already is: The walk down the range during testing is jarring. Perhaps it has to be that way so folks don't think you faked the outcomes but there it is. Thanks for the excellent work.
Thanks a lot, my first blaster I have ever modded. I added a 6kg spring to my strong arm. It took me 6 hours and I failed a lot but in the end it still worked and its really good.
@Down with Imperialism, Capitalism and Anime thanks for this comment! I bought 150 dart zone half length darts, those fly really well and it would be awesome to put those in my strong arm.
A very detailed in depth video! I learned how the whole plunged "AR" thing works, and why not to remove it. I was originally looking for how to get the spring off of the plunger rod, and if I could put add a triad spring.
I'm still trying to figure out I ended up here. Like I was just watching lexy Pantera music vid, and now I'm here learning about how to modify nerd guns I don't even own. I tell you what though just like the other guy said, once I heard this guy's voice and what he was saying I was like like I guess I can sit here and watch the whole 22 some mins. Specially when he started talking about modifying springs and darts I was like yo this guy serious. He knows things. I was blown away by his knowledge of the whole air pump thing. Man this too much I'm gone lol. Freaking learning new shit everyday. Now he got me going to Target to try this ish haha.
We specialize in office awesomeness. For the office: 1. Modified SMG Stampede 2. Pyragon 3. Rough Cut. If I had to pick one single elite blaster for an office war it would be the EAT.
You should still get better than stock ranges if you have done a spring replacement. Orange Mod Works has a write up on a deadspace reduction that will help you get a little bit more on top of that.
Would have been nice if you compared the modified gun to an unmodified gun. You tested 3 different darts with the new blaster, but didn't really show a control with the standard blaster other than the indoor audiovisual test. :/
Great video. Here are a couple of other things you can do to make this blaster better for games of tag: Instead of doing rear loading, saw-off the front of the gun so that the darts can be fed in just like with the Hammershot. Permanently fix the grey piece that holds the cylinder in place to the gun frame (this keeps the cylinder from jiggling around when firing, improving accuracy dramatically). Also you can fill the empty space inside of the gun with foam sealant to reduce noise and improve durability.
It is worth noting that orange modworks now sells springs specifically made for the strong arm (and other various compatible blasters). It is only 8 dollars, so theres no reason not to use it.
Trial and error... It takes practice and learning the mechanics of nerf guns...I've been modding since I was a kid, but I want to get back into it. Longshot was the best, 80+ with basic mods, it's amazing
Thank you so much for this video. I love how you explain how the gun works and your enthusiasm. Think the most comfortable modification is the reloading barrel, it is nicer reloading from the back. Very useful and great video.
A little tip to those modding the strongarm, do not cut off the tabs on the grey part of the barrel to allow the barrel to drop out further. You won't be able to spin the barrel as well if you cut those out
I like the detail of information of your review. I would like to add that I followed another mod video posted by for this gun and found that removing the "rapid air release" as you called it, does in fact increase the velocity quite a bit. I also glued the tiny air hole closed. It is tricky to get the RAR out without damage to the cylinder, but it can be done. I only removed the "toothed plate" and small spring, I did not remove the cross structure that is internal to the cylinder, that acts as a stop for the plunger when firing. I'm basing my findings on a stock spring, and have not done your spring mod. That may be my next mod.
The only big problem I had before I watched this was during the reassembly: I couldn't get the barrels to rotate after firing the blaster. Great guide in all!
Nerf did a fine job designing these BLASTERZ. You did a Amazing Job Breaking it all down. MUCH THANKS! Cant wait to do first Mod with my young budeeeee
Thanks! I was painting one of these for my girlfriend for Halloween. Your video was the only thing that saved me from chucking all the guys when the screw from 5:20 jumped out :)
Hands down the best Nerf vid I've seen. However, after such an extensive tour of the inside of the Strongarm, I decided that stock was more than good enough for mine. It's quite a piece of engineering as is.
Very well informed and knows the product well. Even for me as Im just looking for guides for painting the gun, this allows me to better understand the gun and where to disassemble etc. Very good job
This mod is great and all, but I have one concern; The 6 Kg spring you installed in replacement for the previous stock spring is a nice replacement for a very efficient blaster already, but the fact that spring puts 6 Kg behind the plunger, once fired the plunger slams into the end of the tubing, which I fear could damage the gun internally..
Thanks man. And thanks for the guide! I looked at another guide online that thought the entire contraption at the end of the plunger was an AR. He was wondering why it wouldn't fire anymore...
It will fit, but I don’t think the internals can stand up to it. Specifically the "catches" on the plunger rod. The stock spring in the Strongarm is weaker than most of the other elite springs, it makes up for it through efficient use of air volume. The internals were not designed for use with a heavy spring load. This also means that a 6kg spring in the Strongarm is a bigger relative upgrade than putting a 6kg in a Retaliator
the triangles at 7:41 will break under the new spring , you shld get replacements for that to like a metal triangle cuz if they break , blaster is essentially useless
I bought myself a Strongarm the other day, as I've been toying with the idea of getting a Nerf gun for a while now and they were available for just £6 (roughly 8 to 10 bucks) from Toys R Us in the UK and an Elite for that price I couldn't resist. The uprated spring and 'stinger' darts sound like a worthwhile mods for me but as I'll probably only be using the Elite/Elite Stinger darts the rear-loading doesn't sound worth while for me. Many thanks for the highly in depth breakdown of the gun too.
I purchased the Orange Mod Works Kit and it worked amazing for the first couple of uses however now it has begun to dry fire on every prime. I went back and started doing process of elimination. Replacing the The Plunger, Spring, Catch Mechanism and Spring. Replacing each one until I got to factory settings and the dry fire is still happening. Cylinder still rotates, darts rarely leave the barrel. I've all tried new elite darts and waffle heads and issue persist. Any Idea what it can be? My only thought is the plunger tube which means its defective?
Not really. You could source another spring but honestly it shouldn't be too hard to get an order from OMW, they do a lot of overseas shipping and it is worth the cost if you order several springs at once.
i removed the front piece. you can also sand it down i think. there is a lip on the inside that limits how far the rotator pops out. i can now load 4 darts without turning it
Use the heat to push the tip of the gun through the hole in the tip of the dart then fill it with glue. After it cools use a sharp blade to trim off the excess. After a little practice you should be able to bang them out pritty quick.
I must say this guy is 100% right everybody ripping out the restrictors is just stupid. This person brought it down to a science. One thing he hasn't mentioned you don't even need a 6K spring does everybody realize the original spring is very easy to squash consequently it's very easy to STRETCH OUT!!!! Grab the spring on both ends or with a couple of screwdrivers and just keep pulling it very easy almost got a half of an inch more!! And it does just as good as putting a 6K string in you don't have to buy anything for the strong-arm!!!!!
SomeRandom TH-camr You can duel Wield strong arms too, but not quite as fast. But tbh I'd prefer to just use one hammeshot or one strongarm rather than two.
I opened up my Strongarm just because I was curious about how it worked and the very same screw that you said would pop out, popped out 😑 and I lost it, but I managed to fix it with a spring from a clicky pen
ty this helped me put my thing back togeher i had to take of the thing that makes the barrol spin slower and make that tick sound i went in with plires and got it out worked nice ty again for the help on where the springs go they all fell out
i removed the "valve" from the back of the plunger and i must say it makes the gun freaking lethal, i didnt even plug the tiny hole, i only improved the seal, took out the dart posts and gave it a full barrel drop, remove the ar in the plunger, drill it out with a big drill bit out the back, it really makes a shit load of diffrence in power
If you had to recommend ONE Nerf from the Elite line for an adult to have fun, taking in consideration precision, accuracy and distance, would you recommend the Strongarm? Either stock or modified, could you please list the top 3 for "office awesomeness"? Thank you.
Believe it or not the FIRESTRIKE is the best to modify if you want distance in power straight pole, long tube, no turning mechanisms you can use CPVC and PVC!!! No air loss whatsoever tight fit holy shit it's amazing!! Just like they said it's a toy gun you learn as you modify what breaks and what you have to replace then you buy a brand new gun for $10 and figure it out.. I will be posting a firestrike mod that is unbelievable makes it shoot 130 ft easily.. it was a modification someone else did using PVC tubing with the Home Depot spring that only cost $4 that's spring destroy the internals of my firestrike but it worked for 2 weeks wow did it shoot amazing. I came to the conclusion that I had to put a number 4 or number 6 screw with NUT AND LOCK WASHER 2 inches long going through the entire firestrike from one side to the other ALL THE WAY THROUGH! The two inch screw also goes through the plunger holder that is now CPVC IN THE FRONT!!
I don't think the 6kg swarmfire spring is on OMW anymore. Do you think the 7kg spring that they say is an upgrade specifically for the strongarm would work? I'm not sure that the gun would be able to take a 7kg without breaking.
is it really better to not remove the AR? i modded my strong arm before watching this and it has a 7kg spring and i took out the AR and the plastic pieces in the air chamber (idk what to call it but the thing that the plunger goes through). Should I consider buying a new one so that I can use the intact air chamber and use my heavy spring and do a drop clip mod?
How do shorter stefans do in stock blasters? Especially magazine fed or say, a front loading single shot like a Firestrike? How about the width? Do they fall out of the Strongarm once you add the rear loading mod?
I've watched a lot of nerf "mod"ing videos over the past six months and I have to say this is the most well-explained mod videos I have seen out of 99% of them. Well done. No, the posts have no effect on keeping the darts in the barrel.

I believe it is sold out. However, OMW now has a 7kg Strongarm spring that works even better.
I am very impressed with his video quality and I think that his channel is extremely underrated
