    I inherited my dad's Orgies .25 ..this was the first real gun I ever fired !! It was on Dad's auntie's farm in New York state..II was 7 years old & dad knelt next to me & guilded my hands .. he also taught me gun safety and taught me never to touch the gun..& if I wanted to see it.. let him know and he would make sure it was unloaded and safe no round in the chamber.. then I could look at it and handle the gun.. dad always explain just because you remove the magazine there still could be a bullet in the chamber.. that's something I never forgot! What great memories ❤️

    Im relatively new to owning and cleaning my own firearms, but I was in the process of cleaning my .25 acp and couldn't figure out why the slide wouldn't go back in, you bringing up the spring on the firing pin and the notch that it goes into was a life saver! thanks!

    Thanks for sharing this neat piece of history and engineering. What I love about it? Everything. Almost a 100 years design. Not in production anymore..... but it works just fine.

    Great video! I first saw this little pistol on a "I have this old gun episode" , as fate would have it I ran into a 25 acp model a few days later at a local gunshow. I picked it up for $65 with a box of ammo. (guy didn't know what he had.) I carry this pistol alot in the summer here in south texas. (super humid! perfect for pocket carry in shorts.) Great little shooter, super reliable!

    I too love the mouse guns. Over the years I've gathered together several different makes and models and the Ortgies in 6.35 is one of my favorites. Its clean, smooth lines and innovative engineering were way ahead of their time... A fine pistol indeed.

    I know this is an old video, but I just wanted to say thank you for it. I've been researching this pistol as we found one in my grandfather's possessions along with a story of how he confiscated it from a surrendering German soldier at the end of WWII.

    I have a .25 auto ,.32 auto and a 380 auto Ortgies . All 3 were part of my uncles firearm collection that I inherited. The 32 auto has a German flap holster with a WW2 German Officers name written inside the flap.

    I have one in .32 ACP and really like it. They seem to be pretty high quality and reliable. Hard to believe they're 100 years old, but still function great. Thanks for the video.

    Sootch really enjoyed your review of the Duetsche Werke Ortgie pistol. I have one in 32 auto. At the time I got it, I didn't realize what I had so I tried to sell it for $100.00, no takers! Glad I kept it. It wasn't until your review I realized what I had! You do great reviews and I respect your research and time in preparing for the gun reviews. I have purchased several handguns recently based solely on your review of the weapon. Had to stop watching for awhile until the money came back and my wife let me back into the house!! Great Job!!!

    picked one up about a year ago (2019). Realy happy with it. the right grip was forced off and the catch on the wood is broken. I'll try to repair it if that does not work I know a guy that is a great wood craftsman maybe he will make me a copy. Fires really well.

    Hey Sootch, you're trying to unscrew the barrel? NO! Point the gun away from you and rotate the barrel assembly counter clockwise - like a tiny turret - or the hand on a clock. It will move fairly easily and after turning it 90 degrees it will lift out of its mount. Check it out!

    Out my collection this is my favorite hand gun.
    My grandfather gifted me this which is surrounded by questions..? The grip is a masonry symbol. My grandfather was a man mixed in a lot of controversy.
    My father gifted me my 30-30 Winchester.
    Those 2 I'll have forever unless I have children to hand down.

    I'm excited by this pistol. Striker fired and the grip "safety" is more a kind of decocking precocking mechanism?!Reminds on the H&K P7. Very ahead on its time. Nice you didn't say european release you are well versed. Walther did made a very few PPK's in 6,35/.25 . I dont know on what prices are they traded . Must be in the thousands.

    It has a unique grip safety... When you push the safety button the grip safety pops out this does two things... It locks the trigger but it also relieves tension off the firing spring.. so the gun can be carried completely safe.. when you go to fire it as you're pulling the trigger your hand is pushing in the grip safety which puts tension back on the firing pin spring and unlocks the trigger very unique system

    Sootch, at 5:54 into the video, you show pushing the takedown catch button and having the grip safety popping out on its own. I have one of the .25s and am in the process of making it operational. My grip safety doesn't pop out on its own the way yours did in the video. Do you know which spring is responsible for that action? Is it a spring? Mine will deploy, but I have to press the takedown catch button and tip the pistol back to get the grip safety to pop out of the grip. Thank you for your time and assistance with this inquiry, Sir.

  • @knifesharpeninginfo72
    @knifesharpeninginfo72 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Damn Sootch you almost made me cry man. How did you got that gun? I saw it and memories rushed in. 35 years ago it was a first Gun I've fired. It was in 6,35mm (same as that one .25). I was 9 year old boy and My Granddad gave me to shoot my first gun. He was WWII veteran and retired Officer. He have traded his Trophy Walter for this little 6,35. Walter was simply to big for him. Me being first boy and only one to continue Family name this pistol was to become mine. Only life turned out differently and my ant or someone else did who knows what with my gun. So I was like 1000 miles away (also 4 countries away) when my Granddad past and others took all they could. So I have not got my gun. This gun also reminds me that I have no children and no boy to. I have divorced and I have no children. No boy to learn him how to do manly things and learn him manly manners. No one to keep the Family name. BTW I am Veteran as well. I was shot down by the 7,92 Mauser bullet coming from M76 Zastava sniper rifle (DMR). Upper body shot. Two operations and I have survived. My life is good I have made it. Lived till now in 3 countries worked for last 24 years. I was refugee for years but I have never asked for help. I have lost everything and I came on top. Now I live in the Netherlands and I have not shot a bullet in like 23 years. Well here you can not have handgun for defense. Anyways this review brought me back to my childhood and made me sad about what happened with so many things. This handgun is symbol of failure to me. Something I will never get over that I have lost it to some other people. Also reminds me that although I have made good life for me (I am not rich but have all I need) I have not have luck to find a soulmate and have children. So no son of mine and no gun to give him and tell him that it is from his Grand granddad.

    I just received this gun because my father passed. Found out it was my great Grandfathers gun. It is 6.35mm. After watching your great video I was able to break it down for cleaning and inspection. I need the firing pin and spring assembly. The grips are also missing. The safety does not spring back the way yours does. so i might need a spring for that also. Can anyone help me find these items? or at least point me in the right direction.

    There's a 32 Ortgies in good shape at Military Arm's channels shop close to my house, you should call them up.

  • @OldManMontgomery
    @OldManMontgomery 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have two of Ortgies' patent pistols. But they are both 7.65mm or .32 ACP. One has the "HO" grips and one has the Deutsche werke "D" or panther grip. The worst feature to me is the sights. Not that they are fixed and cannot be adjusted, but the combination of a "V" shaped rear notch and a reverse "V" for the front sight is hideous to align. This despite that configuration was quite popular in that era. Happily, it is a collection gun and not for serious use.
    I am beginning to collect 'old' (prior to WW2) .25 ACP/6.35mm pistols as well as the .32s. As I have Ortgies in .32 already, having one in .25 seems logical.
    I very much enjoyed this video.

    Back in the day when people carried 'gentlemans firearms' and a 25 or 32 was seen as good enough. These smaller caliber semi-autos were also popular with German officers... German guns are just well made, period.
    I really really like the safety grip system. Its intuitive and well thought out.
    Ironically a guy on a local Facebook gun page was selling one of these in 32 recently. 300 was more than I wanted to spend. Probably missed out on a deal, oh well

    I LOVE mine… found it at a farm auction in the Midwest for about $35 😂 - am so glad I found this vid.. thanks for all the info! Do you happen to know how much these go for (I’m guessing more than $35)

    What is that music in the background? It goes along really well with the pistol fire :)

    I'd like to see a comparison video on old mouse guns. Size, weight, capacity, caliber, price ect. Love both your channels, great work. Be strong, be of good courage, God bless America. Long live the republic.

    Nice gun. If you like cheap little pocket pistols check out the Phoenix Arms hp22a. Fun little gun that reminds me of the old Jennings.

    I know this is an old article but I have a question. I own the same gun in identical condition. It has been in our family forever. I took it to the range today and it shoots fine however I experienced repeated jams. A round would load out of line and jam. Sometimes I could just clear the the jam by racking the gun. Other times I had to remove the magazine and the round would then drop out. I stripped it down and it is dirty. Any insight you could give me in resolving the problem is greatly appreciated.

      You might have an erna werke or Galesi that were made to look familiar but they are far lower in quality and workmanship. If it doesn’t say Ortgies it’s not s as n Ortgies no matter how similar it may look

      @@jaydoes2166 I got it to work properly with a generous amount of lubricant. The gun is genuine but I am not a collector so I sold it for a fair price. Thx
