This is fantastic. Time to make all of my husbands "collectables" functional.

Fantastic video as always and I'm happy you watch outdoor boys too! My son and I love it and it has inspired several camping trips for us. This channel of yours is one of the reasons I've started showing my son the way of the axe and saw.
Power tools are great but just like when I taught him shooting, he learned iron sights first. The foundation must be solid when you learn anything

Thank you, and that’s so cool you are introducing your so to all those skills!

Great video. It's sad that we gradually forget how well the old tools worked.

Thank you! It happens so quickly! I think we forget in just one or two generations.

And you sir are the one preserving this knowledge...@9:40, the close-up, and @13:20, with the goat horning were my favorite parts...Our conversation on INSTAGRAM about my suggestion can't be made up....I am glad you made this video....again, well done sir..

Haha miss cute is a bandit. She enjoys chewing on the strangest things. Got to keep the old skills alive! We may need them very soon, I think. I love our niche on TH-cam, it’s got great people!

I have several old Disston saws that were my son's great-grandfather's, or possibly his great-great grandfather's. Now you motivated me to finish refurbishing them to be fully functional again. Your goats seem very entertaining, but I wonder if I would find them frustrating to have around all the time (mostly because of their propensity for chewing on everything). Your videos are always full of useful information.

The goats can definitely be a challenge! But they are pack animals and can’t seem to be more than 10 feet from me when I’m working. Keeps me on my toes. It would be really cool to restore those old saws. Even if they don’t get used really neat to look at family history like that in good condition

Also important to note that's a Cross Cut saw and not a Rip Saw. Two different types of teeth because the two different types of cut require different geometries to produce a clean cut depending on how the grain is oriented.

Good to note that for sure. They are certainly filed totally different

@@urbanlumberjack The tooth geometry determines the quality of the cut. While you can cross-cut with a rip saw, you'll get tons of blow out because the teeth are designed to act like little chisels stacked together. The cross-cut teeth act as knives to slice across the grain like the nipper on a hand plane, leaving a much smoother cut and minimal blow out like you saw when cutting that 2x4.
