One of my pet peeves is when people harp on the lack of cargo space on small vehicles. That is kinda the point compared to the larger SUVs. Not all of us want to drive a large vehicle around every day, especially if it’s usually just one or two people in a car. Let us have nice small cars!!!
For real. Also drives me nuts when they say for only a little but more you can get the NX. I want the small car, not the bigger one. The UX is one of the only small cars that isn't cheap.
Totally agree! Car reviewers: This small car is small !!!!! Yeah, that’s the point. They think every single car must be enormous. They’re literally helping to kill off all smaller, more affordable, and more fun cars.
Purchased my wife a CPO UX 250h premium model last year with only 8k miles for 34k out the door. It’s a great reliable little vehicle that checks all the boxes for her.
I love my UX300h - I had driven a hatchback for years and was looking for an upgrade. I wanted a Lexus that looked similar in shape and had the same handling around bends (so no tall SUV bodies). In short, the UX300h is for someone who's after a Lexus and a hatchback. Where I am, they market it as a compact SUV, so it's perplexing critics go on about the cargo space in contrast to an SUV. I didn't look to Lexus for a badass car - badass means higher maintenance (faster wear of parts), I wanted reliability and a luxuriously quiet ride - although the car certainly has no issues overtaking or merging onto the highway. On the roads, where a lot of people love to zoom around breaking speed limits, I am often quite comfortable going at the speed limit or even cruising behind slower-moving vehicles, just relishing the commutes.
I like to think of the UX as a glorified Corolla Cross. If they stuck the GR Corolla engine in the UX, it’d make it infinitely more exciting, but then again we’re talking about a small crossover. I’d much rather go for a base model Lexus IS, if I were looking to get into a Lexus.
going for a base model IS is basically a downgrade, current IS is still on the last gen rear drive platform vs. TNGA which UX is based, the infotainment is from last gen on the Lexus IS, and if you go for base IS u get the 2L turbo which is still slow. UX even though everyone class it as a crossover but really, it is a hatchback and yes is based on corolla hatch. this is a facelift, so new UX coming soon. Lexus already stuck at GR Corolla/Yaris engine in one their product, it's called the LBX Morizo RR
It’s interesting to get the female perspective on a new vehicle in this very nice review. The guys review it and see how fast he can get to 60 miles an hour as that is everything allegedly to every buyer. Also does the Mercedes or BMW Competitive base SUV models offer the same or even similar MPG?
50k is comfortable ES money which is a way more subtantial car. Heck that's lower end NX money if you want to stay CUV. Looks good though. Being a Toyota/ Lex, would be a great 3 year old off lease car to pick up.
Great review - Jen, you (and Mary) are such a great addition to TFL! My take on this car is largely the same as you guys',...in addition to its intrinsic limitations (size, etc), it needs a bit of help in the luxe department. Lexus, like the Toyota-brand of its parent corp seems to be struggling these past couple (?) of years in that department - resting on its laurels. That rear cargo does look compromised (high floor contributing) and related lift-over looks excessive, maybe due to battery? You did not mention, but since the UX's larger cousin, NX's roof doesn't open, I assume this one doesn't either - another demerit. On the brighter side, speaking of "ux," the user interface for the infotainment and HVAC controls etc, looks excellent. Although I am a blue person, I am more conservative with colors and am with Mary on this particular shade, but also agree with Jen that at least it's a break from the usual gray, silver, black, white, etc.
When you buy a lexus is for reliability and save the pump you don't buy a Mercedes or BMW better materials interior i owned a 2009 matrix2.4 a lot of auto journalists complaining about cheap hard plastic but since 2009 the cheap hard plastic still looking good i owned since 2009 zero problems only tires brake changes that is it thanks for sharing your video take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Why is it that 98% of car reviewers despise smaller vehicles? Why do you think every single person needs a huge vehicle just to pick up a pint of milk?
Nice review thx for that girls 👍 unfortunately for similar price you can get NX which is old rav4 hybrid chassis with some extra refined features, like double glazing windows, sound insulation etc. And bigger space in the back 👍so I won't get UX not enough space in the back, for both friends, and "stuff "👍😉
Not really sure why someone would pay $50K for a car that only Doraemon can drive. It's so expensive, no room in front or back (or legs), offer nothing better than Toyota brand for almost 2x of price tag when compare to Corolla Cross (similar in size). Still don't get it why they still selling it in the US (or anywhere). At least make it more usable if they want to keep the name UX around. Lexus also is not symbol of being cool anyway so it doesn't make any sense to spend that much to look "cool" in Lexus either. I'd rather spend on Crown or Crown Signia and those 2 are actually have luxurious interior design and worth looking at. You get newer hybrid system and more power than UX too. This model is one of the failures in market and they know it. That's why they don't even bother redesign this thing when the rest are now adopted new design language. Good concept, but not bad execution. Even worse with the price tag. They should really learn from X1 or GLA how to make CUV tiny, but still very practical in terms of utilizing interior space. I thought that's what Japanese is good at that, unless they just never cared about this model since the beginning.
Yes, girls. The car is incredibly boring. Blends in with everything else on the road. It’s not ugly, but it doesn’t stand out. As the interior is pure Toyota. But the beautiful ladies inside the car, are top-notch. Very pretty. I’ll watch more videos if they’re going to be in them.
Seems fair enough to me. Your opinion matters. So, if you say something else like the X1 or the GLA might be a better deal for the $, I would go with that. I think it becomes a brand consideration at this point then. If you like Lexus over the competition, it is more than reasonable to stick with this brand in this class. IF you are cross shopping for something with a more aggressive driving dynamic, the X1. If you want a more luxury oriented feel for you and your passengers, the GLA. Seems like a fair assessment to me.
This complaint about space always baffles me for cars in this category. There is enough space for 4 normal sized people and luggage as long as you don't plan to carry the entire house on a trip. Otherwise just get a truck or a large SUV. In any case you can't beat Lexus reliability so imo BMW and all the rest are not really competition.
I'm not feeling this vehicle at all. Bland, monochromatic interior. Useless back seats as the legroom is awful and the headroom lacking. Add to those negatives a small trunk, no spare tire, and a price tag of about $50k and it's an easy pass. Very much a "meh" vehicle.
Nope it isn’t. Put the letter “S” before the word UX and you’ll see exactly what’s wrong with it It flat out SUX. It’s on the same level as a Mitsubishi Mirage
This is a Toyota ladies. I don’t see anything “Lexusy” in this car except the badge and the price. Grossly overpriced. By saying this is OK you are enabling the predatory practices of the automakers. Quit doing that! It is bull…
@@naveenthemachine Then how come Toyota in AU is the top selling brand for 2023 and most likely 2024? Keeping up with the deliveries would be a struggle then.

The BMW and Mercedes may be nice for another 3yrs on a lease, but if you want to own it long-term Lexus all day long.
Thanks Jen and Mary! I've driven the previous generation UX 250h and liked it. Great city car for single professional.
Glad you liked it!
I'd call it more of a luxury hatchback than an SUV. And for the price I think it's a great buy.
Please mention about the new hybrid power train. Biggest advantage of this vehicle. Hybrid power train is standard in UX.
NX as well 👍
I was looking for a hybrid with awd that was small. So between this and the corolla hybrid Ill go for this because if the more quiet and smooth ride
Thanks ladies
My wife owns one. It's an awesome hatchback. In my opinion, it's only worth it if one gets it under $35k.

The center console is pretty wide. Does it interfere with the leg room on the driver's side?
No issues
Great review ladies !!
Thanks for watching
It costs $50k and only the front seats are usable. What a great car!
Why is it that 98% of car reviewers despise smaller vehicles?

In Europe thats a company car, because no one buys the UX. Expensive and Small.

Might as well go up to NX. The boot space is too small.
Wish they made a non-hybrid model :/

$50k 😳 At that price, I’m switching gears and test driving the Explorer ST
My RX350 is the most boring car I have ever owned in 52 years of vehicle ownership. I love it for what it is, though. Only Lexus I've ever owned.
No one wants a “German touring car” anymore. Will probably sell about the same as other Lexis sedans ~5000 a year.
These 2 work only when they are with Kase and Tommy. Calling it an SUV….
