Great show ! The room is the most important thing, look out for a Broki ! A Broki is a secondhand shop for furnitures. Old factory halls full with wooden furnitures. Bring your computer and microphone there and record better than every studio !
great advice for any level artist. I use the audio Technica a2020 and its a great condenser mic but id really love to be able to obtain the sm7b for sure. Advice to any vocalist depending on a producer, please be patient in the process because there are a lot of things on the technical side to be set in play before we can record you.
Thanks! And very true about the artist/producer dynamic. I find its best as a producer to get as much of the technical stuff handled before the artist gets to the studio so there is less waiting time for them.
Yes. So this is a specific workflow thing if you are using a UAD interface. In order to take full advantage of UAD's zero latency you have to monitor your microphone in the UAD Console app and not in Logic Pro. To do this you have to unmute your mic channel in the UAD console and then not select input monitoring (the orange 'I' icon on the track header) in Logic Pro. Hope that helps!
Hi Chris. I heard you mention the limiter plugin in the console. I'm having trouble getting the monitoring volume loud enough. (So the vocalist can hear himself while tracking.) Is that what is needed?
Hey! Yeah that is a really common issue. I find it is easiest to have the limiter plugin on in the console to solve this. It can be done by lowering the volume of everything, turning up the headphone amp output and then rebalancing the vocal, but I find that too time consuming to do in the middle of a session. I just set my balances approximately before the singer comes and then use the limiter plugin to raise the level of the mic in their headphones as the need without causing clipping. And then I keep a pretty conservative mic pre level and print the dry signal into Logic.
Very useful insight, very cool voice (if only I had that). So, if you are in Austria for a holiday, com3 to my mini Homestudio and do the singing for me! 😜 Or at least show me the right mic position in my studio. 😜By the way: I’m exactly in that situation you mentioned at the beginning! I‘m alone …
I cannot wait for you to blow up! I've been working at learning how to record and produce on my own for awhile now and have made a ton of progress but everything was always a bit off. This video with your others (btw pls make a playlist for all the logic videos in order that'd be extremely helpful!) has shown me I'm using the right tools just not in the best way I can! Also seeing the correct order in which to use them has been more helpful than the hours of videos I've watched 🥲
You sir are a great teacher!
I appreciate that!

Thanks! Haha that is a top tier recording hack! Love it!
Great Job, man. Very thorough and comprehensive guide. 👍
Thanks so much! Glad to help!
Great work . Awesome set up
Thanks so much!
I’m getting a reflection filter for Xmas & I plan to record a scratch vocal take as a guide then put a blanket over my head as well for the final take
Try hanging the blanket on the wall behind you. It will be just as effective and you won’t get so hot!
Great Video Chris!!! Cool song too man... Love your vids and your presentation!!! Keep up the great work!!!
Thanks so much!!
Very good job !
Thanks a lot!

Great voice brother and love the harmony’s bro
Appreciate it bro!
Ambitious and well done video! Zero latency for the win. Also - excellent tip on having playback sound the same as the monitor mix.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. Great audio. Cool beard.
Thanks so much!
Nice one Chris !!
A good tip for a headphone extension cables is to replace the crappy factory connectors with pro-level connectors ;).
Thanks! Great tip!
Can you please explain "not input monitor the tracks in Logic"?

Thanks so much!
