    Love the look of the pegboards and wish I could do something similar but I live in an old house and find dust forms too quickly to have such a beautiful display. Sending warm hugs from🇨🇦to all our American friends on this post election day. Just remember that knitting is therapeutic 💕

      Thank you for sending the love - sigh. I have some friends who store their yarn on bookcases with glass doors. It's great that things can be seen, but also stay dust free!

      I use a tallboy to store my fabric and yarn in. The top drawer is for notions and the other drawers are for yarn, fabric, projects etc. it also protects the yarn and fabric from sun bleaching

    Ceder blocks on hanger hooks (aka closet ceder blocks) are great natural moth repellents. Plus once the scent fades you can use a little sandpaper to bring it back. The ceder come in a variety of shapes for tucking into drawers and on closet shelves. They can be found in closet sections of most stores and online.
    I love your pegboard vertical storage system so much. Thank you for sharing your idea.

      Exactly! It's fun to reorder it occasionally - if I feel like organizing by color, or weight, or just mix it up so I can see different things more easily. And it feels so so good to take something off the wall and use it all up!

    The peg board is such a good idea, because you are completely right. If I can't see it, I won't use it. For all the other knitting and crochet accessories, I keep them in one of those plastic tackle boxes, you know the ones that open up with the different tiers? Surprisingly, one box holds everything else besides yarn in an organized and easily accessible place, including all my needles and hooks.

I have a couple of lovely old vintage Mc Farlane and Sons vintage wooden biscuits crates i keep my wool in, then my current project is in a big woven basket in my living room which is nice and accessible. I've heard from other yarn people that you don't want to cake your yarn too long in advance because it can stretch it out. Do you not feel the same way? Or is the caked yarn you have all for wips/ leftovers?

    • @MakerMarkKnits
      @MakerMarkKnits  วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Agreed! All of my caked yarn is leftover! I sometimes go back and re-skein or re-hank it for a happier life. But usually I leave those partial skeins caked so I can pull from them for scrappy or colorwork projects 😁

    I use a smaller pegboard for hanging my fixed needles (which I keep in the original packaging).
    Makes them much easier to arrange & find what I need since I have numerous lengths in the same size.
    I store my yarns with small cedar planks. I can't stand the smell of moth repellent.
    I got these great cubes with doors to store my yarns, and I hang project totes on the handles..
    Love the idea of using a spare room with pegboard, but the only room that's available is always sunny. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I live in the Texas Panhandle. The big problem here is the dust. I cannot store anything in the open or it gets covered in dust. So all my yarn is on drawers, boxes, etc. You are right that I do lose track of what I have or where it is.

    • @KiriAngelGirl
      @KiriAngelGirl 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      What about a picture look book? Take pics of each skein/colorway and keep them in a folder on your phone or print them out and put them in a binder to flip through. Could also do a short snip of the yarn in the binder to get an idea of the feel if you need that for decision making. Then you won't have to pull your whole stash out to see if you have a yarn that will work for a project

    • @MakerMarkKnits
      @MakerMarkKnits  วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      That's a good question! I haven't had dust collect on mine - I try to keep the yarn moving, either by using it up for projects or finding things I can pass on to a friend who might need the color or fiber. I also keep the door to this room closed - I wouldn't want to put my yarn in a high traffic area because I think that would lead to more dust and dander collecting on it.
      All of that to say, so far I haven't run into any issue with dust on the yarn - mostly because I don't let any of it sit for too too long 🙂
