Sam Walton of Walmart Fame used to fly an MU-2. I was fueling up the 172 in Brownsville, TX probably about May 1973 when an MU-2 pulled up to the pumps. Out stepped a guy in overalls and baseball cap and we started having a conversation. When I went in to pay my bill the guy at the counter said I see you were talking to Sam out there. I said yeah, he seems like a nice guy. He said do you know who he is? I said no who is he? He said that's Sam Walton from Walmart. He was just an ordinary common type guy. A memory I shall never forget.
I thought you were going to tell us he paid for your fuel.
@@jimbo7577 Don't I wish.
Sim, caras comuns pilotam aviões.
Sam was just a regular guy and drove a 79 4-speed F-150 for the last dozen or so years of his life.
This is one of the best videos and persons you have interviewed. What an interesting guy! Really enjoyed this one.
Love this video. Barrington's enthusiasm for life is infectious. Wow, when he gets in the left seat he switches to all pilot mode, awesome.
Radio handling.......10 of 10.
That's a wicked plane. Love it. Ton of power. I love when people want to give back and educate like Barrington. He started out thinking he wanted to be rich and figured out he wanted to enrich. Super cool.
@cmartinez1089 I doubt he paid 195k for that plane. Most of them for sale fall in the $400k-$900k range. There's an old one (1971) for sale @ 195k but it needs engine overhauls. And the operating cost of an old turboprop can kill you. You'd need more than a half decent job to pay for it when the hourly cost is over $700.
A bad company that used Americans as slaves in WWII. Many an American died as a result of the treatment that they received from Mitsubishi, and Mitsubishi has never apologized for it.
@cmartinez1089 Yep. Overhauling the engines on that '71 would run around $500k. That's why it's so cheap - that plus its age.
so what , why cant a black man have money if white men can?? GTFO dude!
@@craigbowlby1465 what that got to do with this gentleman?
Oowee must have been 100 degrees in that cockpit. What amazing story. Congrats Barrington!
Was pretty warm!
No AC? I wonder if they even had them for that year model or, can it be upgraded? I'm sure that would cost some big coin.
Another good one Bobby! He is a driven young man, but in a very good way. Driven to do good in the world! Good on you for showcasing him!
Totally agree...well said 👍
Especially flying on a plane that has a brand that will transform Boeing into Dodo bird.
He's full of it.
The MU-2 was one of the airplanes that caught my eye when I first starting reading FLYING magazine in the early 1970s. So glad I got to go along (virtually) on this flight. Mr. Irving - a true class act. Thank you to both of you.
Tim, you and I discovered the MU2 from the same magazine.
Prior to the MU2 my favorite airplane was the Ted Smith Aerostar.
I loved the MU2. When I went to Tulsa for flight training I got a job at International Business Aircraft.
IBA was the MU2 FBO for Mitsubishi in the 1970' -1980s.
Back then the owner, George Mall, sold Mitsubishi and one sales pitch he always said was "the MU2 is the ONLY aircraft designed from the start for turbojet power.
Also we referred to the plane as an MU2 Jet Prop. It was faster than the Cessna 500 at certain flight levels.
The MU-2 is one plane the other will be Mitsubishi competing with Boeing, that will be where the final nail on the coffin for Boeing comes by.
Just seeing the Mitsubishi name is what I see that Boeing is going to the fate of a popular Dutch manufacture that makes airplanes at one time.
That means if I die in a Boeing 737 MAX in Japan I might not even be alive to tell it, but if I don’t ride a Boeing 737 MAX when it crash in Japan, then I will say how would an Australian airliner rejects Boeing in favor of Mitsubishi, and why did Boeing went out of business.
That means if a Boeing 737 MAX crashes in Japan then the passengers die in a Max then the company Boeing dies with them and that is how it goes.
This was my favorite Flying Doodles yet. An incredibly accomplished man who gives back to the community and owns that amazing plane, growing up from very little. Oh and when I saw the title, I was like...the Japanese Zero was a Mitsubishi so they've been harassing the air for decades...kind of like Rolls Royce building airplane engines and most people just think of their luxury cars!
Best one yet. Looking forward to your collaboration with Barrington, i'm certain it will be inspiring !
God bless this man... God bless his attitude and God Bless the airline captain to gave him the encouragement...
I watched the episode of “Selling Jets”, when Barrington bought this MU-2. That’s a fun episode to watch and see more about this incredible man. He chose this MU-2 over a nice Phenom 300 and can be watched online. Barrington is one of the most impressive, humble men I’ve seen and someone it would be an honor to meet. Great video Bobby and Barrington, thank you ! Safe skies ! 🇺🇸🛫
Best story I've ever heard in 63 years. This is beautiful.
Wow, BEST interview ever ! This guy is very knowledgeable and cool.
What a fascinating and inspiring backstory on Barrington and his plane. One of the best episodes so far. Well done indeed 👍
He is flying on the plane that the brand becomes Boeing’s kryptonite, as it is I see Mitsubishi as a guy with a gun and Boeing as someone unarmed and then the guy with the gun who represents Mitsubishi is the one that will kill at the unarmed man who represents Boeing.
What will happen as Japan has done this with cars they could do this with planes.
Mitsubishi = The Next Boeing
Boeing = The Next Fokker
After a Boeing 737 MAX crashes in Japan it will be the day that Boeing goes to the fate of the Dodo bird.
Excellent video Bobby. This is why I support both Flying and Sailing Doodles!
The only problem I have with this story is, that one can only give one like.
Been following Barrington since he first began. He is awesome. Oh yes, I do love the MU-2.
Opa Locka IS a great airport.
Sharp fella who has really done good, significant stuff in the real world. My hat is off to him. The world is better off because he is in it.
This is the best story to date! Excellent machine and top man.
I had the pleasure of meeting Barrington. What a great guy! True inspiration!
Great video. Loved the gear view seeing beaches. Flown in the MU2 once and was impressed. Barrington, your message inspired me. I too want to give back, it’s not as easy as it sounds to find the right venue. You sir have found your place. Bobby you’re videos are getting better each time, I am looking forward to sailing starting again. Thank you guys
That was an air Jamaica pilot...i remember you said it yrs ago. Big ups Barrington.
Jamaica love you.
Love this video, what a great role model!
Barrington well done on passing it forward from the people that helped you to the kids you are helping. ,another great clip Bobby thanks
Wow, awesome story and cool plane!
That brand is Boeing’s kyrptonite and what are you looking at is the next Boeing, and what Boeing is to become the next Fokker, that is what you will see.
Boeing The Next Fokker
Mitsubishi The Next Boeing
Wait until a Boeing 737 MAX crash in Japan!
Great video Bobby. This brings back memories. I worked for a heavy / highway contractor from Glenside, PA who owned an MU-2 turboprop. Yes it was very loud.
Wow! He is so motivating! Makes me want to become a pilot. Great video!
These are the pilots that I really like, the ones that love aviation so much that it shows when they speak
Barrington, Great entrepreneurial spirit and attitude!! May you be an encouragement to all persons you come across in your life time... God Bless!! Thank you Bobby for this video, very inspiring! God Bless both of you young men!! jp
Used to fly this one in my early years of flying great plane even though it has had its few issues but what a bird loved it !!!
Thanks to Barrington and his very contagious passion, keep up the good work !!!
The Mu-2 was a collaboration between Mitsubishi and Mooney. In Japanese, the syllable "MU" is pronounced "moo" and the number "2" is "ni" pronounced "nee". Thus the name in Japanese is "moo-nee" which in Texan is "Mooney".
@anon y mouse - Wow! I'm 67 years old, flying since the 1970's, and never knew that. How clever! Thanks.
So it's a Mitsubishi Mooney Marquis ;-)
But it takes lots of mon-ey to fly this Moo-ney.
One is in San Angelo and the other in Kerrville both in the great state of Texas. In a light single, a little less than an hour flight time VFR with no MOA. In the early 80's I would fly into SJT several times a week. Mitsubishi was test flying the jet engine version there. After landing I saw the test pilot continually making passes to confirm with the tower the gear was down. After several passes he landed with no incident.
@@CreekyGuy The MU 2 was NOT a collaboration between Mitsubishi and Mooney.
The airplane was designed and built in Japan.
Mitsubishi partnered with Mooney to assemble MU2s and market them in the Americas.
Mooney had no engineering input to the development.
What a great guy! Really enjoyed Barringtons story. Hope you work together again.
Barrington is my idol. Being black and from the Miami area he inspires me to further pursue aviation.
The first black man to accomplish flying around the world ? Why would that matter ?
What an inspirational, humble pilot with such a huge heart. Love the passion you have for flying and especially education.
That is a great story. Good luck to this young man and another great video 👍
Thank you Barrington. Great video, great interview and a really classy dude. Best yet!
MU-2 ,we called it a “converter “ , it converted kerosene to noise !!
What a breath of fresh air this episode was. Love this guy. I really enjoyed every minute of this. Thanks Bobby for capturing this video
Very cool...
Very impressive story by Barrington. Very inspirational. The plane isn't too shabby. Nice presentation.
Nice video, very inspiring for everyone young and old. Very happy for you bro. You're living out your dream and inspiring others to do so also.
Outstanding video! What a cool way to get kids interested! I love this plane too! Barrington is a very smart guy.
A real role model
What a great role model for everyone. Worked hard and achieved his dream.
What an awesome personality, pilot and aircraft! Looking forward to your collaborations in the future!
One hot aircraft is right, a very interesting note I thought would be mentioned is that for roll control it uses spoilers on the topside of wings just ahead of where you'd expect to see the ailerons....Definitely a craft ahead of its time........and still is........Barrington knows his planes.
I really enjoyed listening to Mr. Irving's story, sounds like a great guy. Thanks
Bobby, Excellent Video!! Barrington was very interesting, the Mitsu is one cool airplane. Can't wait to see the two of you together again on either Sailing or Flying Doodles.
Barrington GOOD ON YOU! Glad you didn't play NFL Love the MU-2 high wing twin prop Garmin retractable gear 1500HP. doesn't get better than that!
I have the feeling that, given the human he is, if he'd played NFL he'd have done some good that way.
@@KutWrite I was concerned about the brain/concussion injuries that are only now being truly studied
The required training that the FAA implemented upon this airplane years ago, has quite frankly I believe, saved many many lives. This pilot is right on the money. You vary outside the requirements of this model and, well, just go to the NTSB web site, and read some of the numerous articles written about this aircraft. The old "Rice Rocket" I love the sounds those Garrett engines put out. They are as familiar, as a Rolls Royce in a P-51. Great Great Episode here. One of my favorites for sure! Bravo!
Excellent story! This guy knows his airplane and how to do life right!
This is your best one yet. Loved the enthusiasm ans passion. The MU2 looks awesome!
This is an awesome video and thank you for posting. It was inspiring
Barrington is a great pilot but an even better " Human Being"! He is a very engaging speaker and a true humanitarian. It is rare in this generation to find a person with his qualities. I can only wish him success in his future endeavors. Really enjoyed watching his MU-2. Not many around anymore. Great video, Bobby!
This is why America is great. Americans have the ability to go out and achieve their dreams and goals with their inner desire and motivation. Awesome story. Love to see people who are achieving their goals and living the American dream. This is awesome.
spliceon charlie well I agree with you. But you can do that in many other countries too, especially in Western Europe, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, & China.
But yeah, America is an entrepreneurial playground if you've got what it takes, and the ambition. I grew up in west Connecticut, but moved to the UK in the late 80s, before going to school and becoming successful as a producer. I realised that the were an awful lot of entrepreneurs around the UK, and Germany, and other wealthy countries in Western Europe. I also did some work in the Far East, and the Middle East, meeting like-minded professionals and entrepreneurs.
If you've got what it takes, and you're lucky enough to be born in a wealthy country, general aviation (and I suppose commercial) is accessible to many, many people around the world - as is, entrepreneurial wealth and success in business.
@@RB747domme NO. 100% disagree with you. This video is about an American success story, okay. You do understand this major point right??? No "Buts" About it. Stories like this is why "America" is the greatest country. You need to watch the video again. As far as China goes, nothing is great about communism or stealing secrets from America.
@@spliceoncharlie Congratulations! You made yourself from someone who is merely proud of their country to a foaming-at-the-mouth knee-jerk "USAUSAUSA" moron in a mere 2 posts!
spliceon charlie yup only in America lol. You’ve reached your dreams yet? How is that going for you?
@@michaelhoffmann2891 sorry you hate a success story. This guy came from a regular background and made a positive impact on society. Go be negative some where else Hoffman . The right wing is positive and up beat and not negative like left wing liberal socialist.
Continue making us proud my fellow Jamaican countrymen. I was a soldier in the JDF when you did that world tour. This also inspired me to follow my dreams to be a pilot so I quit to follow my dream. I'm now commercial rated and looking for that first job. I will love to give back just as you did some day and hope you get this message.
Bobby by far best story up to now! Interesting an giving man, it was so conforting to see this video. Well done man!!!!
@Andrew Heller ?
What a good interview with Captain Barrington. So enjoyed hearing about his work with students.
He is correct! This aircraft is very unforgiving when mistakes are made! Thanks for sharing 👍 blessings from Puerto Rico 🙏🇵🇷🤠
Awesome video man, amazing flying machine that Marquise, still a dream aircraft now days, wonderful job, thanks for bringing us on board! 👍
Epic as always as I PPL student I love watching these videos
Now that is a dude that I want to spend time with and learn from! Great video and cause!
Saw Barrington in "Selling Jets" S1E37 when he bought the MU2, great guy great video!
Great guy. Thanks for posting. Thanks for giving back.
I've always loved the MU-2, aka the Rice Rocket!
Lol
Barrington Irving is super inspiring! I had never hard of the MU-2 and seems to be quite the plane.
If you like private aviation, the MU-2 is pretty much the unicorn you want fly sometime. Good on you mate!
This guy is awesome! Great video! Thanks
Very motivating. Great video. Your best.
Shout out to my Hometown 🙌🙌🙌! My Dad used to play golf with the Japanese staffers at the plant (hanger). I can tell you, that they were VERY proud of and took great pride in the building this aircraft.
Love the MU-2 in '81 my mother showed up at Bullfrog Ut on a demo flight very cool plane.
Your an inspiration to the youth of this nation, who are in great need of people who can show that it isn't hard to be a normal human and in reality they are the real heros.
Always one of my alltime favorite airplanes. I used to build models of them in the 1960's. Thanks for this.
After listening to Barrington this morning I won't need my usual triple shot café espresso Cubano.🏃-_-_-
Thanks for the uplifting
video.
Super Proud of this great man, friend and colleague.
Another very interesting video, plane, and pilot.
Awesome video and interview, Barrington Irving is a very successful interesting gentleman with an awesome aircraft. Barrington you made the right choice with aviation sir!
Well, w/ that Last name, He better be great!!!!!!....Tons of towns and places named after him....
I gotta say, you've brought us a lot of great vlogs. But this by far has been the greatest vlog. I mean, what Capt Barrington has accomplished and the legacy he is carrying on in the lives of so many young people will have an amazing impact for years to come!!!! I've already been on both websites and all I can say is WOW!!!! I will definitely be following Capt Barrington and his team!!! Thanks Bobby, you're doing a great thing!! Keep em coming!!!
Wonderful video and beautiful Mitsubishi. If you're at Opa Locka I expect to see you and StevoOne flying together soon!
A chance encounter and encouragement for a young man not afraid to put in the work to achieve a goal turned passion. Now a good man giving back and doing good work. Respect.
Great video and great person, thanks for sharing that inspirational story
Mitsubishi still makes airplanes, in Moses Lake Washington where I go to school they are testing their new MRJ. Was able to get up close to the only 4 in the world and they are pretty incredible planes.
I remember this guy from before he set his record. His drive is what got him where he is. Good guy.
The MU-2 is a handful in a ham-fisted pilot's hands.
I find it very refreshing to see someone that was raised in a bad neighborhood and black take initiative staying out of the gangs getting out there and making something of them instead i am poor and i live in a bad hood mentality. You, sir, are 1 out of a hundred that do not let themselves live that wooo is me attitude. I would love to shake your hand. Thank you for teaching kids they don't have to be victims of they're environment.
This is a remarkably racist statement. Go elsewhere.
@@codyleonard6927 there is nothing racist about it it was applauding him for not taking too the streets and being a statistic
"Mitsubishi makes airplanes?"....only since, what?...the 20's!
Ever hear of the Zeke...aka Zero?!!! (and many, many more!)

You are cool and I mean cool. Hearing you talk about what you have done means that you've just begun. Best of luck to you. I give you a 10. Love hearing you talk about flying.😎👍
The noise is from the compressor design of the Engines the Compressor is in the front/first stage. MUCH different than the PW
I love his story. He is a great ambassador of Aviation. Much success to you young man. The MU2 was originally built as maritime patrol aircraft for the Japanese Navy. Great bird!!
Barrington is cool... You should interview Trent Palmer and Mike Patey.
one of the best flight vids. much success in your endeavors sir.
Just last night, after watching your Cardinal RG vid, I thought to myself ".....damn I would love to see an MU2 vid - specially with the 5 blade prop". Oh well, too bad for the prop, but great vid!!!!
People seem to forget Mitsubishi built the "Zero" fighter during the 40's and was more than a match for the Spitfire! in fact it had a 900 mile range with drop tanks, flying at an optimal speed+ height etc the US navy thought the Japanese had more Aircraft Carriers than they knew about, since Zeros would show up in places the US Navy did not expect to encounter them.
I found out about Barrington through my wife. His name was also dropped in a book I read called "Seagull One". Jose Basulto must've been a hell of a guy to fly with.
Excellent interview and flight... Barrington... living the dream.
Good Decision...... Keep on Flying...... For the love of Aviation. 🤗 👍 CLEAR!!!!!!!
Ever since I was a kid I’ve always thought the MU-2 was the coolest thing in the sky. I still love this plane but now it shares my top spot with the Piaggio Avanti.
I saw one land at KFRG Memorial day weekend. First one I saw in years. I have heard these aircraft can be very tricky to fly.
Back in the early 70's I was a "gopher" for an exec with a uranium mining company. I went with him all over the US and Canada. The company plane was an MU-2. During flights, the execs sat in the back discussing business and I always got to sit up front with the pilot. Loved it!
I remember seeing you buy this on TV.
What a great guy! I saw him on the "Selling Jets" TV show when he bought it. The other aircraft was a Phenom 300.

What an awesome story. My friend, you are the perfect example of it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from if you set a goal and work for it, anyone can do anything. A lot of young people could learn from you. Keep on keep'en on :)
