A government tourist video stated Burra is Aboriginal for the eels found there , but I read an Indian forward tracker with an early expedition party found good pastures and running water , he returned to the party with the good news and excitedly cried in Hindi " Wonderful Wonderful ! I grew up in Burra. Lived there from 1974 to 1983. Did most of my schooling there. All those places you visited was mine and my siblings playground. None of it was locked in those days, no keys required. The Redruth Gaol was a favourite place to play. It wasn't that safe, particularly upstairs, back then. But hey, we were kids! I am glad they have restored all those places though, and have restricted access to them. The house we lived in, just on the edge of the north of the town, is now a ruin. I believe no one lived in it after we left in 1983. I have been back occasionally throughout my adult years, last time was in 2015. Lots of fond memories, and a great place to grow up. I now live on the Coffs Coast of NSW. Thanks for posting a video of your visit. Glad you enjoyed it there.

I grew up in Burra too from 65 to 70 i think Dd had the Swervwel supermarket there. We use to play at the old goal as kids, play in the old mines. We lived in kangaroo st. Went to BURRA school from grade 1 to grade 6 then moved to Alice springs
I helped design, build and install the support posts that hold up that wind turbine blade, each individual pole had to be done differently where it cups the blade, we used plastic water pipe which was insanely hard to shape and fit as a buffer tween the steel and fibre glass as it was all round. To this day i drive past it and wonder why they didn't paint the black pipe white after installation to blend in, I assume no one else notices it, but as someone involved i will always only ever see that bloody in"flexable" black pipe tween the post and blade. P.S. it was so well received we ended up making a few more of them for other towns who did the same.
That's so cool. And haha we didn't even notice BUT next trip through we'll definitely be sure to stop in and have a look!! Yes, we've seen a few other turbine blades in various spots.
They were very short people in the dug outs. They were Cornish Miners. I remember going on that tour. i nearly bought a home in Burra once. I love the outback towns. SA is my home state.
We absolutely loved SA, especially the outback towns. Peterborough or Terowie has been our favorites so far. We have a video on both of those too!! Such interesting history with the Cornish down that way ☺️
@@jeepinoz Yes, did you try cornish pasties as opposed to Balfours and Vilis? I don't know if you got to Kadina and Wallaroo, but they sell cornish pasties there. I saw your Terowie one just before the Burra one. I know the town. I nearly bought in Yacka. I like out of the way places to live and can afford to live anywhere. Glad you liked my state. I live near Gawler, the oldest town in SA.
