Head up to Balmorhea (BAL muh RAY) for the State Park's pool there... fantastic. It's actually 'in' Toyahvale (a "suburb" of Balmorhea - or is it the other way around? ha ha). There's always the Frio River, running thru Leakey, Texas ("LAKEy" not LEEKY) at Garner State Park, world headquarters of rock-skippers). I can recommend the whole Pecos River 'valley' especially at the end of July, all of Aug and early Sept because that's harvest season for corn AND best yet - CANTALOPE.
Hey Max, we went two years ago. It's an amazing park. Once the camping area opens back up, we're there. Check out that video here- th-cam.com/video/lymOFefjyQE/w-d-xo.html
@ Definitely. Will head back out there. That’s where I learned always bring plenty of water. Thirstiest I have ever been was walking through those hills. 😂.
I heard nothing but great things about the Devils River, most videos were about Kayaking. We had to check it out and weren’t disappointed. Thanks for watching and hope y’all venture out to the Devils River.
@@TexasFamilyCamping I’m sure it can, be ready to see plenty of wildlife. 22 miles on the dirt road. We seen deer, foxes, armadillo and birds. The hike to the river not bad. It reminded me of Franklin Mountains trails.
I want to go and visit this beautiful place. I live down the road in San Antonio but that Our TEXAS, hidden with soul moving surprises. I'm saving this vid as a great intro guide. Thank you and I am hoping to see you all real soon❣️
It’s worth a trip and you won’t be disappointed. The river is the most pristine water in the whole state of Texas. It’s amazing how clear it is. We plan on revisiting soon to kayak. Safe travels and happy hiking 😊
Great video! Haven’t made it down there yet, but am looking forward to it someday! My favorite is the Frio, but this looks like it could definitely give the Frio a run for it’s money. :)
The last time I was near the Devil's River, camping, I witnessed a caravan of people, perhaps 40 males, with identical plastic backpacks, traversing up-river.. I guess they were out sight-seeing?
i’m going next weekend with my great dane. we’re so excited! i drive a low clearance mazda3 hatchback… should i have concerns driving it into the park? i’ve driven it off road in the canyons of california before. it wasn’t smooth, but doable at very low speeds. or should i borrow my roommates renegade?
Camp sites are spaced out with a total of 8 primitive sites. If you can, try and get campsites 1. It’s closest to the showers and WiFi. The park is prettt quite, enjoy 😊
@@xxcorey23xx Sonora or Del Rio are good places to stay near Devils River. You can definitely make it in a car. The only issue would be if it rained. Cell service is spotty and the nearest full service station about 65 miles away. It’s worth the trip, the hardest part is getting there.
@@MrSTravelQuest I see. Thank you for your advice, and loving the video. When I saw an image of this place on a blog, I knew I had to make my way here. I don't have a kayak or anything, but I can still hike and do some swimming here I assume?
@@xxcorey23xx Yes sir you can hike and swim here. I seen plenty of videos highlighting the kayaking. I decided to check it out and see for myself. It's worth traveling to see the crystal clear water. If you hike pass through Finegan springs you will not be disappointed. The water is crystal clear and cold. That's the area you might see some folks swimming. We seen maybe 5 people coming/going on the trail. It's very peaceful and hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
The Devil's River State Natural Area doesn't disappoint
It's amazing! We have plans on going back.
@@MrSTravelQuest I still want to make an attempt on off-trail there to get to the top of a cliff
@@hikingwithjackieboy I know you can go off trail, but the grass too high. I don’t want to step on any snakes 🐍
@@MrSTravelQuest when I tried it the brush was too rough to get through and I was worried about snakes

Yea, its a beautiful area. I was out there hiking in the early 90's. It was rugged, but lots of wildlife.
@@crawdaddct are you excited for the new Devils River Unit to open up?

@ it’s beautiful, but nothing in sight for miles. I did something similar over the summer 😂, I bring jugs with me now.
We’ve heard talk of this state natural area many times but haven’t visited. It looks like a destination! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, that water is beautiful! Awesome park and awesome video!
Thank you Reuben! It was a long drive to HQ, but hiking to the river was well worth the effort.
Following and subscribed because of this video - thank you!
We hope you check out this park, it’s truly a 💎.
I hadn’t heard about this river until I started watching your videos.
Glad we could highlight this park. It's worth checking out. We have been a few times and love swimming in the river.
Wow! Looks beautiful!! Thanks. Had never heard of it!
It’s amazing and worth the trip. Planning on going back soon to kayak.
Looks like a really beautiful park! Love camping or hiking near water. As long as it isn't packed with mosquitoes that is lol.
No mosquitoes and they had some campsites for Campers. It’s a nice park and worth checking out. Lake Amistad National Park near this park too 😊
This one is on my Texas bucket list!
You won’t be disappointed! Every Texan needs to see this at least once 😊
Great video, thank you.

It's amazing in person! I wish I could capture how blue the water looked.
I would love to go & explore that area. Just need to get the right type of kayak first. The one I got now would just get torn apart.

First time hearing about this park. Is there any other trails beside this one?
The other trail was a 12 mile loop. We wanted to hike it, but ran out of time. Park closes the gate at 5pm for Day use area.
Monday thru Friday? I was looking for a go to for the weekend
Open Friday, Saturday, Sun and Monday. (Closed Tues, Wednesday and Thursday)

So no camping?
4 primitive campsites and one bunkhouse.
so if I don't have a car that drives 4 wheel drive, don't bother going?
You can probably do it, just be prepared for 22 miles of bumpy road. The water amazing.

I will have *nothing* to do with anything named after the Devil/Satan. I choose God Almighty.
It’s used to be called San Pedro (Saint Peter) before it’s name changed by Texas Ranger Jack Hays in the 1840s.
It’s a name, man. Chill out.
