I was listening to story 1 thinking “how does someone just handle that?!” Then it said she was a nurse, and it all made sense lol. Shoutout to all the nurses, who have seen more than the rest of us care to imagine.

I went on a cruise to Alaska for a week and when I got back I found out within that week two coworkers resigned, my friend group had a falling out and splintered, my landlord screwed up my apartment transfer which led to moving out completely because I was tired of their antics, and a family member’s health greatly deteriorated. Like I was gone one fucking week and it turned into a shitshow.

This was years ago (nearly 30 of them at this point), and I had a splashzone seat for it.
I was at an arcade I used to be taken to pretty often. I loved it because not only was it quite the large one, but it had quite the sizable go-kart track. Every time I went, I had to be in at least one race, though up to this point, I was too small and could only go as a passenger (they had twin-seater karts - a side-by-side arrangement, not a tandem one - for circumstances like mine). Then finally, at around the age of 7 or 8, I was considered big enough to have my own kart, and I was looking forward to it so much. Now, I was extremely nervous about finally having a go at it, but I had been watching my father drive all the time whenever we were in the two-seater, so I was confident enough in thinking I could match him.
Now, the entrance-exit area was divided into three lanes, two for the single-seaters and one for the twin-seaters. I saw what looked like another father and his kid getting into a twin-seater. I should also mention that they give little kids like that one (and me up until this race) a racing helmet, probably help them feel cool while also protecting them. Well, I didn't think about it much at the time, but looking back, the kid must have been one of those who gets motion sickness rather easily and quite severely.
I say this because by the third lap, I came across this weird mess on the track. I ended up driving over it - thankfully, nothing happened to me in any way from doing so - but it mildly bugged me until this race was over. I ended up being one of the last to finish, so as I was pulling in, I saw the father and the staff member who oversees the karts scrambling over this kid's helmet. Right as I reached my stopping point, the kid was lifted out of his seat. His face was just covered in his spew, and while I cannot say for sure, it might have been of the "extra chunky" variety.
I cannot remember how they handled the kid in the wake of that - how they cleaned him up, what they did with the helmet (it might have been incinerated, for all I know), etc. - but that became something of a story at the karts for quite a while, though as far as I knew, it never went beyond the track (and yes, I am aware that the exact same thing could be said for the kid's spew).
It is just a good thing that this was back in the days of dial-up internet, so the story, assuming it got out, likely did not travel as far as it would have today. There is no way that kid would have ever been allowed to live it down if social media was around back then.

17:55 Unfortunately, that is how it is for most, if not all, Walmarts, but especially the Super-Walmarts. You see the toy section next to the sports section next to the hunting-fishing section. It does not help that hunting and fishing are considered to be sports, hence the arrangement, so stories like 9 are practically destined to happen at some point.

2010, Fort Hood, middle of the summer. It was that time of year for our Brigade’s HHC company for us to practice putting up a DRASH tent, basically a tent the size of a small building that required a giant air bladder to put up. Most of us in the company had been putting one up annually for the last couple of years but the “Butterbar” Lieutenant that was in charge of the detail had never done it before and when told it would take a minimum of 12 soldiers he brazenly said “we can make it work with the 7 we have here”, most of us tried correcting him since it was an all hands on deck type of situation to get that big heifer up but since he refused to listen to us.
The day of the exercise the Butterbar is in and out of his office to tell us to hurry up while 6 of us struggled to get it up. Finally around noon he was ordered to stay out there with us and help but he didn’t provide much. It finally took our First Sergeant to go from office to office and get volunteers to help us, by getting volunteers he I mean he told everyone that no one was going home until we get the DRASH up. We barely got that thing up by end of day, then we had to take the thing back down again. What in the past took us maybe 3 hours to get up with all hands on deck took us and entire day. After that as well as a bunch of other minor incidences with that Butterbar the First Sergeant nicknamed him the Raggedy Lieutenant until he was placed in a line unit and we got someone much better to replace him!

Laughter helps us deal with misfortunes. And don't we need to laugh more now than ever before in history?! I'm so grateful I was born with the priceless gift of being able to laugh at the misfortunes of others ❤

Went to work one day not feeling well, called out the next day and went to the doctor. Had Covid, so I was out of work for a few days.
My first day back, my bosses bosses boss pulls me into a meeting with everyone else at our site and tells us that my boss got fired, her boss quit with no notice, and his boss (meeting guy) was now in charge of doing all 3 positions.
Dude lasted a month, then went on FMLA for 3 months, came back for another week, then quit.
I myself walked off the job a few weeks later. Started my career and damn, best thing I've ever done.

Rufus should check out the thread I started called "How did you almost die, and what did you do to save yourself?"
It brought up a ton of great stories... but yeah there'll be a lot of audio censoring due to the nature of the topic.

My birthday in 2019. Nothing crazy planned, I was going to spend it with my parents and girlfriend at the time. Mom was going to make my favourite meal and sent stepdad and girlfriend to get it since my ankle, which i badly sprained months earlier, was still not in good shape. Well as it turns out my stedad couldnt find anything and was getting frustrated which upsets my girlfriend because shes empathetic and then thinks hes mad at her. So 2people upset and girlfriend lets it ruin her day and wont talk to me now because she does that when upset. Im more upset because they got upset and everything is getting more blown out of proportion than needed so i gave up and went to bed. It took me crying in bed for girlfriend to finally talk to me and apologize and we all agree to try again the next weekend. Small in comparison to most, but it did suck.
