The absolute WORST thing about the Ads in Streaming services nowadays is they'll stop a show mid-fricken-sentence to show you an unskippable ad. Hell, at least Commercials on TV waited until the scene ended or there was a logical conversation break.

If a restaurant insists on QR codes, they loose my business. I shouldn't have to have a device to order in person, menus on phones are too tiny, and QR codes are too easy to lead to scams.

Honestly, this is a non argument. You can zoom in on your screen, you can look up the menu BEFORE you even get to the restaurant, and if your phone opens a QR code without showing you the link first, then your issue should be with your jank ass phone with shitty security, not for a restaurant modernizing and removing a disease vector from your life.
I bookmark menus for restaurants I like, and share them with people I'm going out to eat with. We come in, instantly have our order ready to go, and get our food sooner. It reduces work for the server as well.

I 100% agreed with Story 7. I used to have a Samsung Galaxy S10, and I liked how it still had a headphone jack and a removable storage, including a 1440p display. Sadly, that phone got damaged while I was at work. I tried getting it repaired. However, Samsung tried charging me $700 in total and I had to canceled it. I might as well spend that type of money on a brand new phone instead.
I then tried buying another one, but it seemed that Samsung had discontinued that model since the S21 series had came out and was available to buy only. So I bought the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus and it felt like a huge downgrade! They've removed the headphone jack, Micro SD slot, and the display was 1080p compared to the S10's 1440p display. To make matters worse is that it was way more expensive!

Makes me glad that my S10 is still working and working well. Sure, the battery has been giving me trouble, but I found some shops with S10 batteries available. Of course, I made it a point of keeping the whole thing protected. There was one time where I thought I had broken the screen, but it turned out to have been the original(?) screen protector, and thankfully, the store I took it to for repair still had plenty of screen protectors for the S10 (this was about three years ago). I have also gotten better cases for it, which undoubtedly helped.
I also found a little stick-on cooling fan (applied a provided magnetic pad to the back of my phone - it even works on the most recent case I got - and the fan sticks to the magnet) to deal with what I am convinced is people trying to cook the phone by making certain apps draw more power than necessary and thus run the phone hot and cook itself out. I have gotten a few looks over how I am still using an "old" phone, but I guess what I can do with it has silenced any criticism over its age.
Here's the best part, though: my S10 is actually a hand-me-down from my mother. She was always the one to get the first phone upgrade/"upgrade," and with that, she would give her previous phone (with the number changed) to either me or my brother. Before she gave me the S10, I was using the 5, which also served me well, up until the adhesive was (probably purposefully) designed to not adhere anymore.
I will admit that I came close to having to get rid of my S10 a few years ago (before the screen protector incident) because of possible compatibility issues. I was looking to move to a new country, and I was looking into their cell phone providers. Each one of them brought up whether or not their networks supported certain phone models, but only one of them gave a way of checking if the phone would work with them. I ran it, input my phone's serial number, and it basically went, "Oh, an S10? Yeah, it'll work here." You can imagine how relieved both my mother and I were to not have to shell out a few hundred more for a likely inferior phone.
And boy oh boy, do I LOVE the microSD slot. Sure, I had the rare instance of the card I had in that slot actually failing (probably a side effect of the phone heating). That card had lasted me for over 10 years, and now, it was just not being read by the phone. I mean, to be fair, I did get times when it would be read by the phone, but the frequency and duration of the reads kept dropping. Fortunately, it only applied to this one card and only to the phone, so I got a little peripheral that could read microSD cards for my computer and used that to transfer all of my stuff from that 128GB card onto... a new 512GB card, which then went into my S10 and has been running normally.
And even though I have a Bluetooth headset tied to my phone, I only use that for making calls. I would much rather use the headphone jack for entertainment. I do not like having to charge up frickin' _everything,_ and wired headphones are one of those hills that I will die on. Can the wire be inconvenient? Absolutely, and of course, I almost continously run into that inconvenience. You know what I consider to be even more inconvenient? Having to charge yet another device, establishing a connection between devices, possibly missing, dropping, or otherwise forgetting the device because it is wireless and so small, and, as I noticed between the wired headphones and my Bluetooth headset, there is actually a _delay_ in the audio output for the Bluetooth, which is okay for calls, but it quickly gets annoying when you always (and I do mean always) notice it for videos. Yeah, it turns out that pairing separate devices over a wireless feature that requires them to understand each other (and, let's be honest, could be scanned and hijacked by something), only to end up with less-than-ideal output, is not exactly an upgrade.

@@DavidRichardson153Hey, I'm glad that your S10 phone still works. That's a great Samsung phone right there! 👍 I was planning on buying a used or refurbished one, but I prefer buying a brand new device, you know? I know for a fact that used phones tend to have a bit of a degraded battery life. Don't get me wrong, I really like my S21+ phone! However, like I said, I do feel like it's a bit of a dowgrade. Kinda how the Nintendo DSi got rid of the GBA Slot. So certain DS games will miss out with the Rumble Pak feature, or games such as Guitar Hero: On Tour is completely unplayable on the DSi. Since the S21+ doesn't have a removable storage, that means that I'm only able to use it's internal storage. Which sucks because I tend to download a lot games on my phone and my S21+ only has 128GB in total. Which is nearly at its full capacity. Plus, the 128GB model was a bit "cheaper" than the 256GB, 500GB, and 1TB models. 😵‍💫
Another thing why I prefer a headphone jack because wireless Bluetooth headphone's battery life won't last long. I own the Airpods (Gen 2), and although the sound quality is great, it does have a poor battery life, which lasts about 2-3 hours. I hate waiting for it to fully recharge. Also, there are times when the audio desyncs due to the frequency interruptions. Yes, I could buy a new, better Bluetooth headset. However, even wireless Bluetooth headphones are expensive as well! Priced around $200-$400 at best. I ended up buying a USB-C to headphone jack adapter, but it's not as reliable as it seems! Sometimes I have to 'twirl' the adapter so that the audio comes out properly.
But yeah, I know I'm just being nit-picky. I just miss the headphone jack and removable storage. I'm sure it's a brilliant corporate strategy to force their consumers to spend more on their devices a junk. But whatever! 😮‍💨

"No backwards compatibility! Isn't that great?"
Uh... no. One of the nice things about getting a PS2 was that new gamers could catch up on all of the PS1 games they missed. But then the more powerful systems after that can't read the older software? How is that better? That wasn't the first mistake Sony ever made and it won't be the last.

    • @nobodyimportant2470
      @nobodyimportant2470 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Part of that is that often the backwards comparability was done by literally putting the older system into the newer one because it was easier to do that than bypass the DRM on the original media. Then they realized that removing this they could make the console less money and sell the older games to people on the new system which made more money.

It's all preference, but user customisation options being widdled away is something of a design feature for the business model more than anything else. If you run out of storage, you can pay for more cloud storage directly to them, but also only works if you have a signal. Lacking a headphone jack, yeah you can take it or leave it, but it does have some other backwards compatibility issues, like if you wanted to play music from your phone on your older car/personal stereo. Something similar can happen with Bluetooth eventually if they decide to use proprietary headphones and software because it's "better quality," but I can assure you it's to lock you in to using their stuff exclusively.

The problem with video rental places wasn't the cost. It was the restrictions on time. If I rented a movie from Blockbuster, in order to not get charged more for it, I needed to literally not be busy on the weekend. I needed the free time to see the movie almost immediately after renting it because I had to return in a few days later. Before Blockbuster gave us a few days, rental places only gave you one day rentals. You rented it, saw it that night, then returned in the next morning.
What initially gave Netflix its success and allowed it to move to streaming, was the fact that you could keep a rental basically forever. You could watch it on your own damned time and didn't have to worry about late fees. Streaming movies just made everything 100 times better.
And in the end, the problem we're facing now isn't Netflix or their model. It's companies like Sony, Disney, and others being assholes and thinking we'll totally subscribe to 20000 different streaming services. Bitch, if your shit aint easy for me to get from what I have, then I'm sailing the fucking high seas.

Any restaurant that tries to force you to decide a tip before service gets and automatic 0% entered in from me. Then I tell the server I'll tip in cash later. Not only is it asinine to demand a tip before service is provide (at or any point really) but when paid digitally, at best the tip is distributed evenly amongst the staff (including the one that are awful at their job and drag the total tip pool down) but more often than not is only partially given to the wait staff with the rest being pocketed by the owner of the restaurant. If I tip in cash I can choose when to tip and there is no middle man skimming off the top, the transaction is between me and the server who earned it and that's it. Really tipping should be made "illegal" (though basically never enforced) and the legal minimum wage for wait staff should be as high as most other jobs.

My nana was buying a new washing machine and happened to mention how she was happy to be getting a better one. The man installing the machine said actually your old one is better then the new one.

I've seen hints of this in some of the stories, but I will hear more gripes about AI in the coming years as people discover that it's not a complete substitution of human intellect as it is currently thought to be. It's a great automation of information processing for sure (better than anything ever used before), but there is way too much hype over this in general.

The guy complaining about phones is absolutely right and you're quite wrong. That future has to wait until technology can GET THERE. Until then, keep the headphone jacks that work better, keep the SD cards which initially were an upgrade to the old phones who had limited storage. How does RE-limiting storage seem like a good idea??? Everything he said is why my Samsung Galaxy Core - nearly 10 years old - is still my current phone. I can still use headphones, including ones I had since I was a kid, including ones from the damn dollar store which if they break the next day who cares they were $1. And with wires make them harder to lose (I REALLY don't get the incompetent people complaining about tangled wires, it's never been much of a problem and I've been using them since the 80s). I have a lot of storage in an SD card such that if I change to another phone that can take an SD card, all my files instantly come with me, super easy to change phones. I can get to MY battery. And he didn't list the main concern about batteries: Safety. If something happens, device gets wet, phone freezes, whatever, pull the battery. Safe. Fixed. The idiot designers seem to think that holding a button or whatever is a suitable replacement. NO! EMERGENCY. An emergency means NOW, not after 10 seconds. And sometimes the issue is that the phone stopped responding. If it stops responding, it won't respond to that restart command either. To me, it seems like locking the battery in is to kill devices and make us buy more, so they sell more. Completely underhanded. Hidden behind claims of being for waterproofing. You know what? Nearly 10 years of keeping my phone dry, not difficult. But I've used headphones dozens of times in that time. I get more and better use out of THIS phone than I would out of a modern crippled phone. The old way is better.
The guy complaining about Google, OMG, THIS! Used to be searches were literal, meaning powerful. If you make a mistake, that's on you. Correct it yourself. But babying idiots has weakened it. I just had a BAD one. I knew a lyric, I wanted to remember what the song is. Usually I can type "lyric" then the literal lyric in quotes. Lyric was "How many rivers to cross". Some guy has a song I never heard of, "Many Rivers To Cross" as the TITLE. It figured I must mean that. Firstly, I said it was a lyric. Secondly, where's the "How"? It was IN QUOTES! The quotes means not optional! I hate that Google treats search terms as droppable if they aren't in quotes, that's not what a search term is for. Let ME remove unnecessary words that may make the search less precise. So I added the guy's name with a minus (minus meaning "but not results that have this word"). In quotes, so not optional. STILL the highlighted result is the full lyrics of that guy's song! What part of "not him" do you not get???!? I SEPARATELY minused out his first name and last name, still! (Lower results indicated I was looking for Luba). And sometimes if it has trouble finding with the quotes, it'll do the search without and say so. WHY? I put the quotes on purpose! If you can't find it, the appropriate result is "No results"!
Next video being scams no one wants to admit, all this phone stuff! LOL! And that Apple makes dumb screw-their-customers decisions like the headphone jack, blind fanboys lap it up and refuse to admit the scam, then other phone brands follow suit because they want to be greedy too.

Windows 11, why do I see the Blue Screen of Death 3 times a day now??? I had seen that only once since Windows ME, and it was due to a major hardware failure.
on top of that, they foisted it on my machine with a full screen display that left no obvious options other than "downgrade"
what went away? keyboard shortcuts that would allow me to rip through most of the simple stuff in less time than it takes for me move my hand from the keyboard to the mouse pad. replaced with not quite so intuitive icons
ever more tortuous routes to get to the IP settings on my work machine where I do a lot of setup work for various equipment on different networks, Windows 7, I was able to park it on my taskbar. Secured Government networks? there is no DHCP server, even if it has one, it won't put you on the subnet you need.

I seriously don't get the Windows 11 hate. The ads are annoying for sure and the push for Copilot to be in everything is absurd (AI fad will fade, I promise). But, the OS is super solid, and it doesn't have the system crashes like old systems of yore. I remember when Windows XP came out, it crashed all of the time, it wasn't until SP3 that the crashes were less severe. Windows Vista, was a nice OS, but required more substantial resources than what was on the market at the time that the average consumer could afford or understood.
Windows 7 was nice, I liked Windows 8, but hated that the start menu wasn't there and it screwed up my workflow. Windows 8.1 fixed *most* of the annoyances of Windows 8 but not all of them. Windows 10 is modern Windows XP to me. Had some stability issues, but was pretty damn nice.
I'm an oldhead with PCs, I was using computers as early as 1995. I remember playing with the Dr. Sbaitso chatbot on my computer as a kid. I've used Dos 6.22, Windows 95 and beyond. I got into Redhat before it had the enterprise OS version.

Played a very unique vore game where you're this anthro bunny. The more fat added to the protagonist the more skills you got, my favorite being the "Hit All" skill which was a guaranteed hit and medium damage. This got replaced with an "upgraded move" when the protagonist reached a certain percentage of rotundness, the "hit all" which was a relatively risk free attack that could take down multiple enemies, was replaced with a move that could only deal massive damage to 1 enemy at a time. This wouldn't be problematic if it weren't for the fact enemies go first, and multiple attacks really drain your health fast. Really fast, and good healing to recover from those attacks is expensive early game. Definitely in my book a downgrade.

I would like to point out that Windows 10 was good. I would like to clearly contradict the statement that Windows 10 was complete crap and was so bad when it was released that despite it being persistently offered as a free upgrade and being available for free for 6 months, only a fairly modest number of users were gained. More users were only reached because it was made a prerequisite for various other things and because experts were actually put in place to fix this operating system. And today they come out with something that is just as unfinished and are trying to win users over to it and are announcing that they will end support for Windows 10 surprisingly quickly. Microsoft dominates the computer market and if Apple would finally realise that they could produce equivalent devices instead of just more expensive devices, Microsoft's market dominance would end immediately.

Is that sarcastic when you say you don't want replaceable batteries, headphone jacks and instertable SD cards? If you're serious, then I feel sorry for you. You do realize that phone companies build batteries that do not last longer than 5 years? I know too well, my phone is barely 3 years old and the battery doesn't even charge anymore. Wireless or C stick, it will not charge. I have to use my 1 year old tablet to do what my phone could if phone companies cared about making a better product for people. And even then, who knows how long my tablet will last. Tech companies are evil, making products that can't be fixed without paying out the bum for it and requires a new two year payment plan that will inevitably require you to get a new phone because these companies do not care about you. Your phone will forever die and you can't do anything about it. At least with replaceable batteries and SD cards you could make it last for a smaller cost than with what you have now
