    Hi Peter, excellent videos! I'm married to an Australian and she's telling me all about the cars you've restored. I'm just about to start rebuilding a 1976 CB750 K6 which had done 61000 miles and was a bit tired. I'm reboring mine to 0.25mm oversize which is the first oversize option. Honda supply pistons and rings in 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1mm oversize so you don't need to bore out to +1mm straight away if you don't want to. Cheers from Scotland!

    The dropping / throwing stuff around makes me chuckle. That's how I spend most of my time in the garage. My (not so) finest moment was dropping a bolt from a speedo drive into the hole in a gearbox (I'd oilled the thread it and was threading in by hand to try and clean up the thread before re-fitting the drive). Unfortunately it was about 10 seconds after I said "if I drop this I'm going to look like a right idiot!"

    It's nice to see you know how to support a crankshaft for storage. I have seen an Alco locomotive 🚂 crankshaft break when laid on its side unsupported during storage.

    Never used oil of wintergreen but silicon grease can make a huge difference in softening old rubber. Sometimes it will sufficiently resurrect that replacement is not needed.

      Yes I need to really investigate this rubber issue - I've heard that replacement items are not as good as original. Cheers

    Hi Peter thanks for another very informative video, cant wait for the next one. As someone from the uk I must say you have some strange sounding wildlife in the background, at the beginning of this vid, sounded like the clangers !! but guess some kind of bird

    When doing transmissions I like to use 2 dozen egg flats to lay all parts in order. It's also a good surface to absorb oil.

    Great videos! Having worked on a few Japanese bikes in the 70's/80's I'm amazed you managed to disassemble without an impact driver and without any of the screws/bolts shearing. Keep up the good work, I think you've got a good engine there.

    Hi Peter, There are some Vids on TH-cam about softening rubber parts. I've seen one using oil of wintergreen, but can't remember who did it. They did rubber boots from a Honda air cleaner from memory or carby boots

    I tried with Oil of wintergreen, which was a mess and the rubber ended swollen-up. So I ended up buying a new set of manifold inlet boots. That was 70 dollar well spend since the carburettor went on and of way easier with the new ones.

    Regarding that nut in the clutch. I make my own sockets for those. I buy 2nd sockets from cash convertors and grind /machine the end of the socket so has 4 or 6 teeth to fit the socket . most of the sockets are a few cents and it takes 5 minutes to make one . It's easier if you have a mate with a milling machine to knock one up but i have used a cutting disc in a 4' grinder and three cornered file on occasion .. :-)

    Oil of Wintergreen and 90% rubbing isopryl alcohol works wonderful on old hard rubber parts. 1 part oil of wintergreen with 3 parts alcohol.

    i think you'll find there is a circlip holding the clutch basket on to the shaft

    Hi Peter, be careful with that gear at 23.20. It cannot go either way. There is advice in the Honda shop manual about getting the boss in the correct orientation to the neighbouring gear. People on the SOHC forum have had gear selection problems resulting from installing it incorrectly. Have to pull the entire engine to fix.

      Thanks for that and very much appreciated. The gear looks to be the same either side, so mustn't be phased symmetrically between the spline and the teeth ...     Hi Peter, I’ve been enjoying watching your videos on the cb750 rebuild, I’m in the middle of doing the same and have found them invaluable. Could you tell me if you changed all of the roller bearings in the engine/gearbox as I have a 12000 mile bike where everything seems good and the bearings run free with no noise but am in a quandary as to whether to change them all. I’ve renewed pretty much everything else whilst inside the engine but not sure whether to change these. I did the strip because it has had crank case damage in the past from a snapped drive train. Many thanks Matt smith

    Hi Peter - Oil of Wintergreen is the common name of Methyl Salicylate, the smelly ingredient in most heat rubs and liniments - should be available from your Phamacist. I can probably get some for you if you really want it. Also - I noticed a bit of lateral runout in the gearbox sprocket of the primary drive chain when you spun it - should that be there?

      Thanks Richard I had no idea what it was... the lateral runout shouldn't be there, so will check it out... may need to check a few other odds and ends with a dial indicator before reassembly. Cheers mate... (fingers crossed on the Chookshed issue).

    My shift drum will not come out... I'm wondering... how did yours just slide right out? Was there a part that wasn't documented... like you holding the drum with your hand and loosening the center screw? I ask because mine will not come out, and some jackass before me tried using a Phillips head (instead of JIS) on it and pretty much stripped it. Can't get the gears out without removing that shift drum... so I guess I'm going to clean the lower half of my case with the gears, shift drum and bearing still in it... I didn't want to but I have no choice.

    Pete you shouldn't have to rebore to 1mm oversize if it doesn't need it, thats the 4th oversize. should clean up at .25 or .50 thats the 1st and 2nd oversize. see how it measures up. cheers ando

    for your next series I think you should take your Ford to a car show or go to some car clubs and show us how actually car clubs work like memberships and Club days out and I think that you said in one of your show's that one of your mates was doing up a car we can see how that's going yeah it was just an idea
