  • After world war 2 the British wanted to have a universal tank, which was supposed to be called the Fv 200 series the idea was for this series to have a total of 22 different versions, however it became more expensive over time and by 1949 they realised that costs were getting too high and that the project was not worth it do they stopped working on the FV201, in addition they realised that they already had a tank on their hands which was capable of being versatile and this was the Centurion, however with the appearance of the IS-3 heavy tank, which appeared back in 1945, the need for the a Heavy Tank was still there, , so in 1952 the first pilot model was running and by 1955 twenty were going through troop trials with the British army of the Rhine, the Conqueror was produced 180 times and spent its service life as a potential tank destroyer due to its powerful main armament, Throughout its entire career the Conqueror seemed to be more of a burden that a help due to its electrical and mechanical malfunctions, in addition to that it was generally very unpopular with its crews, eventually after serving barely a decade the Conquerors were taken out of service, and after the Centurion Received the 105mm there was no need for the conqueror

I always liked the idea of heavy tanks, though they were fundamentally a dead end. Long Live the Centurion! - and the T-54!

    Good choice of subject !
Spaced armor was invented because of HEAT, not HESH (high explosive squash head). To my best knowledge, apart from the British, nobody used HESH.
Protection against spalling from HESH is spall liners, and this is done inside the tank.
