this album is top tier from the start to finish. Her versatility is on another level like you got bar fests, introspective storytelling, soulful ballads, etc. Now I need to go back to listen her other albums.
the first letters of Sometimes I Might Be Introvert make SIMBI, Simz’s name. the album is a massive statement of identity and it makes you proud to be Nigerian, Black, British, Female or even just an Introvert when listening to it. few albums make you feel that way. this album will be a classic in Hip-Hop and because of its themes of reflection, introversion and social unrest I think many of us will look back on it as The COVID album
@@MiyamotoMusakaki i get what you're saying. modern british identity is complicated because it is so diverse multicultural, but equally that broad spectrum exists because so many people have been oppressed . in terms of solidarity with working class people there is a lot of pride there for a lot of people for sure, and Simz's album reflects that- especially when speaking on her specific experience as a black working class women. but there's also a lot of resentment cuz the system here has caused so much pain for us, especially afro and desi people who are still impacted by the legacy of colonialism. so there is a fine line between pride for our communities and nationalism that holds up our shitty classist institutions. but I think the album tackles that divide well since it is about her experiences growing up in mutlicultural London- and she uses the voiceover of Princess Diana's actor in The Crown. that's really emblematic of complex british identity since she is loved as a public figure for how she called out and broke down how monarchy were expected to act, but also held up one of history's grossest and most colonial symbols since she did marry into that family. so yeah, I understand what you mean but its also not that simple.

@Josh R yep, a song or 2 is plenty sorry to get a feel for an artist vibe and album. And yes first ten sounds of a song can dictate a song a lot of the times kid. 😂 😂
I’d put Evidence, Lute, and Topaz Jones above this. But this is right there after them, along with Boldy James, WestSide Gunn, Tanya Morgan, Nas, and AZ.
This album kinda reminded me of Kendrick's TPAB in how cohesive and self-reflective it is, at the same time turning outward with lots of attention for black/female representation. Career-defining record. Also the Lucy nod on Two Worlds Apart may have triggered this comparison too
Agreed. It’s slightly less cohesive and I think I prefer TPAB very slightly, but yes I agree. This album feels like a modern day mix of College Dropout/TPAB/GKMC
First couple seconds of Introvert already had me hooked, this album is great. Can't believe I hadn't heard of Little Simz before this album. Grey Area is incredible as well.
I appreciate yall for putting me onto Little Simz, never heard her music before. I love the fact that you guys are finally shouting out dope femle mc's who have 🔥🔥lyrics, rhyms and content in their music!!
Easily one of the best albums of the year if not AOTY, an absolute masterpiece!!! I love Little Simz so much!!! I need to go through her whole catalog, I only heard this and her previous project aside with a few of her other tracks, but yeah this album was a gem!!!
Little Simz, Dave and Slowthai are the best rappers in the UK. All creative in different ways, showcase different perspectives and all critically and commercially successful. I’m happy our scene is putting out great work.
@@thesassynerd They are. Skepta is maybe the most influential considering the doors he’s opened for UK rappers, and who he’s collabed. Stormzy is the most mainstream but he’s important for popularising the genre, and he has alot of good songs
Yeah the first listen for this album was really tough for me, having to get used to the accent and the style, it was a hard learning curve BUT that second listen was AMAZING. I can’t stop listening to this album. I’m not sure if this hits my top 5 of the year yet because this has been an excellent year for Hip-Hop but shoutout to this album man, this is amazing
Fucking great album. She seriously has flows that sound like Slick Rick at times, and it all sounds totally natural. What a damn project. She is her own thing, and I'll be keeping my eye out from now on.
Yo, this is my first dead end hip hop video. 2 mins I'm and I fucking love you guys and your vibe. I'm not too clued up on hip hop and rap as I only been into it for a short while. The vibe is real accommodating for that and gives me some cool shit to check out. Peace ✌
Certainly one of them. Up there with MBDTF, To Pimp A Butterfly, TA13OO, Piñata, Me Against The World, Kids See Ghosts, Flower Boy, Rodeo etc. Hiphop can be really beautiful sometimes
This and injury reserve's album are my favorite rap albums of this year and I feel like they'll both age really well. Both incredibly sonicly diverse and saturated. Both incredibly raw and real.
An AOTY contender for sure! This was my introduction to Little Simz and I was blown away by how beautiful this album is. I gotta check out her back catalogue. She’s dope AF.
the album is tidal..its not just static bars or music. It moves in tempo and tones. But i felt like it was a generation before her without being new. I heard Badu..Lauryn Hill..Common vibes in it.
Little Simz and Dave are easily 1A and 1B in regards to UK artists. Would love for them to also review Dave’s recent album. That’s my album of the year.
It will stand out as one of the best for sure but it’s too early to say the best. Original Pirate Material by The Streets, Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal and Kala by M.I.A. have that classic status in culture that takes years to build and you can’t replicate in just a few weeks. Little Simz will make it there though with GREY Area and this album.
Y’all gotta review Phabo-Soulquarius. SOULECTION artist coming with a revitalized 2000s RnB writing. Sonically comparable to Smino, Omarion, and Usher.
This is her 4th studio album, as Feefo says - I dunno why Myke and Rod think it's her 5th. The others are all either mixtapes or EPs. Great album, though - Simz ALWAYS brings it!
@@directedbysunny Ah, so it's probably a Spotify etc. thing then - I don't use those kinda streaming services, so it wouldn't have crossed my mind that they'd list stuff like that. Thanks for clearing that up! :)
I feel you, the tracks off GREY Area are just so replayable on their own - this project is incredible but it's got a TPAB feeling to me where I feel like a lot of the songs are something I would only listen to in the context of the album in it's entirety.

If Little Simz were north american, she would have the same hype as Kdot. One of the best rappers out there.
If she were American and a man she would for sure

Some Kendrick influence on the themes and the way they are handled as well
