Freddie Gibbs and Madlib (MadGibbs) dropped their second collaborative project titled Bandana. Bandana has features from Pusha T, Killer Mike, Anderson Paak, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and Black Thought. Sitting in on the review is Granddad Woolly from Dead End Gaming podcast ( / deadendgaming ) and his own TH-cam channel here: / granddadrdlr
Freddie Gibbs made news this week saying that he was a better rapper than DOOM and set the internet on fire. We actually had that discussion during the time of this recording a few weeks back when Granddad brought it up. Let us know what you think in the comment section.

About Dead End Hip Hop:
No scripts. It's pure unfiltered hip hop conversations and album reviews. No politics. No BS. We Are The People.
Madlib produced the whole album on Ken's iPad
Ken used my iPad - TK 😂😂😂
Madlib said he wants to do an album with Pusha T. That's at the top of my hip hop wish list now.
willbill1983 when? source? thats too fire so i dont want to get my hopes up
Source bruh
I’d like to work with Gibbs until he’s 60 - so long as he’s really with it and doesn’t pull a MF Doom, I can’t find that dude anywhere! I would also like to make an album with Pusha T (who appears on “Palmolive” along with Killer Mike) and this new rapper called Chris Crack from Chicago, he is insanely talented and we’re both like-minded.

@@willbill1983 omg that's awesome! I'll also check out that Chicago rapper
@@willbill1983 Finally Chris Crack getting his recognition!! His fucking dope... him and Madlib would be insane
I love the fact that In hip hop nowadays we get these crazy connections creating new groups. 10 years ago who would have thought that EL-P and Killer Mike would be such a great tandem? And now we have Freddie Gibbs and madlib. Matches made in heaven
Don't Forget "Czarface" Inspectah Deck And 7L & Esoteric......Not A Weak Album Yet....
@@fairplayterrific147 ehhhh
@@fairplayterrific147 Czarface DOOM album was fire but the recent one with Ghostface was meh
Wouldn’t say Czarface have a bad album, but I don’t think they have a definitive/essential album
Feefo's dad moved weight? Unexpected development.
Dude dry snitchin
I thought he mentioned that in previous videos about his life and etc.
That’s why he talk shit about Rick Ross 😂
Feefo's daddy was doing bumps in the whip
@@elijahblack7167 Statute of limitations, you ol bitchass
Freddie Gibbs voice is an instrument man. he can match any production and make the beat even better.
My problem is he is kinda hard to understand when he is rapping.
@@kandedjibril4614 what??
This is the kind of album where I don’t play single songs, when I want to hear Bandana I feel obligated to start at track 1 and buckle up for the whole ride.
GW Productions god damn right! When I wanna hear singles I go to artists like Drake I can’t enjoy a full album by him
Facts. Like a movie for me, gotta start from the beginning and see if you missed anything and appreciate all the other shit you didn’t at first.
Practice so good
Situations and Practice are so slept on
Bro I been feeling Practice foreal
Donny Hathaway & Gibbs; a match made in heaven
Declan Tobin for real 😂
A Blue Jay Turned Black exactly
Practice is the best song tbh
After 5 years, this album is well worth the wait. The production, the flows and bars, and the consistency it all flows flawlessly. 5/5 album of the year!
It's not even as good as piñata
@B. LoNe the whole thing sounds limp as hell to me and very pop
@@fabianruiz9846 listen to piñata.
@@adamsmith2944 not as good as pinata but gat damn it holds up well to pinata and where tf did the pop come from
Oh shit this is the first time black thoughts rapping on madlib beats. That in itself makes this album pretty legendary along with an amazing mos def verse. Living legends acknowledging a legend in the making .Education is definitely one of my favorite songs of the year and bandana is tied for my album of the year along with Igor.
well there is a Madlib remix of The Roots song Don't See Us if u want to count that. I know what u mean though, so I wouldn't, but personally I think it's tight too.
Black thought featured on a strong arm steady song madlib produced called "clean up." Back in '07.
Check for Strong Arm Steady feat. Black Thought & Saukrates - Clean Up. From their 2007 Mixtape Deep Hearted. That's Tariq's first feature on a Madlib beat
Simiselo Dlabantu thanks for the info. Will definitely check it out.
I thought Igor was the clear cut winner for the grammy this year, but then Bandana came out and fuck fam idk. Gonna be close for sure
Myke’s energy in the beginning; FANTASTIC, comedy gold.
Strong Kinge episode for standing tall on his opinion.
more or less, he said didnt like "half man half kane" but then says its in his top5 songs of the album
Abstract Phase
Hahaha, it’s a little bit like when Feefo rated 90059 with the song Easy Bake 😂😂😂
he's right
Feefo be bumping this album cuz of the anti-vax line
lol just joking Feefo.
why, did feefo ever say some anti vax shit lol?
@@TheQupus he does a podcast with some co-workers called Black Korea and they talked about it.
Man I'm not gonna lie that line ruined the song for me
@@polterghost6268 what did he say about it?
@@MeSureBack but that pusha verse though!
They all loved Giannas but gave Paak no love? He was flawless on that track.
Paak coming in on that verse is the best moment on a very good album
Yeah this paak was necessary for this song fr
the flow myke was talking about was ‘fake names’, more than likely, not ‘cataracts’.
Now about to listen to “Bandana” for the 5,000th time.
Fun fact: Madlib produced the album on Kinge's iPad
this album was an immaculate masterpiece from front to back. Freddie Gibbs & Madlib are the perfect match for each other. y'all should review Your Old Droog - Transportation.
Agreed. And transportation is 🔥
Bandana is the Album of the Year, hands down. Debate your mama.
*Hip Hop album
Great album. Westside Gunn and Benny the Butcher brought that heat.

Deadass, what a Bozo lmao
Embarrassing lol

He's right though. Madgibbs > Madvillian
BLARG313 Madvilliany is better than both their albums combined
You not supposed to listen to Bandana expecting another Piñata. Its a different project entirely, still a God tier project
like the jump from flower boy to igor for tyler.
“Massage Seats” was actually a beat Blu rapped on from his UCLA album with Madlib a while back
Where? Blu is a top 3 favorite rapper for me and I can’t find it anywhere
Just found it!! “Funky Cowboy Meets The Funky Drummer” for anyone wondering. Couldn’t find it on TH-cam or Apple Music but it’s on SoundCloud
You beat me to it lol yup Funky Cowboy, you can find bits of the album online, but the crazy thing about it is Madlib didn’t have anything to do with that album & it got pulled. That’s why that album is a find.
Lewiz_KMDG dope af. You definitely put me on. Appreciate cause Massage seats is my favorite track on Bandana
I asked him about that tape check out my Podcast Kushthoughts i had blu on the show
Bumped it at least 25 times. Word gets tossed around loosely but it's a masterpiece.
lmfaooo i love how Rod actually cut Feefo off when talking about his favorites
finally a guest with some character
Pete Zahut he's got his own channel. Grandad Woolys a funny dude.
Sober Hippy thanks dude
He has a gaming chanel aswell and he's hillarious, watch his Freddie review its so fuckin hillarious, and also when he rips Drake's whole career in his Scorpion review lmfao

DAUKSZ iz as in Lukey cage?
Had to pull the pants down for this one.
In all seriousness this album is incredible. Better than pinata for me
Dan I like Piñatas sound more but Freddie’s rapping is way better on this
Pause
Freestyle Shit is on repeat right now. The whole album is dope tho.
Its a tie for me both albums are fire top to bottom imo
freddie is rapping on another levem on bandana, but pinata is better dont even try
Damn, i really wish C Town mentioned at least some of the quotables on the album like he usually do, cus' on this album Freddie has so many dope lines damn near every song. Anyway great review, you guys solidified most of my thoughts on the album - wich i LOVE by the way.
@@fabianruiz9846 "Rappers gettin' jack for they jewels, i keep the tool with me - i go Makaveli on Hughes Brothers, bitch who the menace"
The lyrics which hit me the hardest was the arcade bit from Situations
Palmolive is perfect, it didn't need a Killer Mike verse, the hook is timeless. The way he drags his words in the hook is just as skillful as a verse
Freddie Gibbs Madlib titles be like
Santana
Cabana
Havana
Tetra
Tribeca
This is my new favorite Myke moment of all time: "Freddie Gibbs is the quintessential rapper to rap with Madlib over MFDoom? You out your damn mind... You can get louder! You are still wrong."
No offense to Freddie, Bandana is fire.
Let’s goo been waiting for this review. Bandana is another classic dropped by both Freddie and madlib
Brother?
@B. LoNe you're tripping. Sounds crystal clear brodie
And before anyone start saying Freddie Gibbs is trippin about the MF DOOM comment, Gibbs was just messing around. Watch the actual interview before having an opinion about what he said
You know people don't read past the headline/title
He seemed dead serious to me
Freddie was deadass.
This is Essentially Top 2 hip hop album of the Year Next to Quelle Chris Guns. Salute to madlib with texture soundboard, beatswitches & my dude Freddie gibbs Pimp gangsta Gibbs. Cataracts, Giannis & fake names holy smokes.
YOOOOOO, SHOUT OUT TO GRANDDAD WOOLLY from a fellow Gary, IN native!!! It's crazy I never thought I would see somebody from Gary on DEHH video, very dope fellas. I been rocking wit ya'll since 2011-2012
Mic Jonez 219 Stand Up
I know you’re proud. Gibbs is a monster!
I think myke misinterpreted the beats made for Freddie thing; These are MADLIB beats more suited for freddie. freddie said that shit himself. The first album was completely made with them sending shit back and forth. You can tell they put in time in person and developed a much deeper bond on this album imo
Yo someone go get Ken some help, he trippin super hard.
@B. LoNe
"I can't hear thru the mix" was probably in your highschool yearbook quote
Situations definitely bumps in the whip. I see some people saying that it’s the weakest track but even that songs amazing because it has a btnh vibe to it. Freddie sounded like a young Krayzie bone. Gibbs is definitely in my top 5 of this generation after this and piñata.
Thats one of favorites he bodied that song
Reminded me of the Freddie album, specifically the flows he used on Triple Threat and 2Legit.
"Obama got elected today, and I got arrested
LA County literally strippin' a nigga naked
And I never tell on none of my enemies or connection
Motherfuck Jeff Sessions, I'm sellin' dope with a weapon"
CRAZY song.
Granddad and Myke gotta solve this beef on the sticks on Dead End Gaming
Myke don't want it on the sticks but I'm down haha
Pusha T’s verse is one of the best verses of all time. He really been killing his features the past few years
Haris Ahmadzi that’s a fact
Of all time?? I loved the verse but sit your ass down
Of all time??? 😭😭😭😭
Of all time bro u tripping
m.A.A.dVillain that line “These scars are the only real proof they couldn't kill gods” was better than most rappers careers
Easily one of y'alls best reviews. Loved the tension between Myke and Granddad xD. Keep it up, guys! Been watchin' since 2011.
Freddie's breath control and flow switch when the beat switched on Fake Names was fucking insaaaaaaane
Before I even start watching this review I fully expect every one of you to love this album.
Just Drayson >ken hasn’t said anything for 15 minutes while everyone else loves it
Uh oh
Yoshimitsu4prez So I just made it through the video finally and I am shocked that Ken didn’t like it. I was expecting him to give it all kinds of praise.
Feefo look like Russell Westbrook's broke older brother.
KEN came in with the expectation of the project being better than Piñata and I feel like they are 2 different projects it would be a different story.
Exactly. They weren't trying to make another Pinata and I'm glad Freddie made that decision.
Amazing video! Keep up the reviews. Bandana is DEFINITELY an album that'll sit with me for a long while. I already love it but it gives me the vibes I get with all the albums I love. Can't wait to blast Pinata and Bandana til we get Montana. MAN what a goddamn catalog if Montana keeps the same consistency (which idk if a single person is expecting it not to)
the best way to put how Kinge felt about the album is like eating Chocholate Cake and Steak, both are good seperately, but you don't mix them together because then you won't like it
agbrenv that sounds like quite an interesting combo, shit I would try it
Damn cataracts make me feel like a classy hommie, straight facts
You might have to retire from Dead End Hip Hop”... Modest Media w/ the punchlines 🥊 😭
😂😂😂
I had the same reaction to this album that Ken had. It took 4-5 listens for me to fall in love with this project. I was coming off bumping "The plugs I met" non stop. I kinda compare Benny and Freddie/Madlib albums like Run the Jewels. Benny = Killer Mike. Hard hitting bars you listen to with that scrunched up face. Freddie/Madlib = El-P. Takes some effort to break down and appreciate the intricate beats and bars together. Both albums are top AOTY for me. Love the content guys keep it up!
Myke C looked ready to throw hands 1 second into this review lmaoo
This is a perfect headphone in my hoodie album.
I've listened to this album nonstop since its release. Easily my album of the year
Rubbin my hands together like birdman
A 35 minute review. Yes LAWD
Also the Spotify visuals are dope too.
heeeeaaaaavvyyy in the rotation definitely gonna be bangin this into next year Freddie makin his case for top 5 in the game right now...move out the way Big Sean
The only time that the mixing felt off to me was on Education, everything else sounded great to me
It sounded pretty dirty but it fit the vibe perfect
heebs boy felt like the mixing was done purposely on this album
What’s up with people saying the mixing is bad on every album nowadays? Just because it sounds different doesn’t mean it’s bad.
@@dukecityspecialist true, Madlib mixes a lot of his projects like that just listen to The Unseen by Quasimoto for an example
Imo it really did fit the song well; it felt like I was listening to an old school tape I found laying around, with two legendary MCs and future legend giving me that education
This was a True Masterpiece. Spooky music 🔥🔥🔥Freddie's Flow was incredible just listening to the Raw beats by Madlib off a IPad made it nice.
Fake Names was the one where Gibbs seamlessly flowed through the beat switch
Where’s the Denzel review/ best albums so far vids at
IGOR was my AOTY 2019.... And then came this.
Krit drops in 2 hours 🙌
Disappointing album
Shit is garbage. He sold out. Bye Krit.
Bighou Damn. Talk about being harsh. It is definitely not one of his best but garbage? GTFOH. It definitely wasn’t that bad but I do think it’s one of his weaker projects for sure.
Feefo, if you like weight talk listen to Benny the butcher. Just dropped The Plugs I Met
Marques Underwood They recorded the review for it. I hope Benny and Freddie collab soon
@@Ioriyagami00 check Benny's twitter, he said it's already done, they making a project together! Man if they get Alchemist on the beats this is gonna be crazy
Zojc whaaa? hol up, Freddie x Benny joint project???? if that is true......awwww SHIT!
Marques Underwood Imagine freddie, benny, pusha t, imma sell so much weight yall gon see me on cnn
I knew this was an amazing album when Freddie started out Flat Tummy Tea with "Uh, I beat the pot like Joseph beat Mike and Jermaine
One came out light, one came out dark but they smokin' the same" lol
“I be in these bitches stomachs like flat tummy tea” man... so smooth and gangsta
I still can't believe Madlib made all these beats on a fucking iPad. He shit on every laptop producer striaght up.
Dope album! London locked in!!! Keep up the good work ✊🏾👊🏾
You should ask Myke to attempt to pronounce Giannis’s last name
Loving this album, this and Igor are my picks for the year so far.
Lmao they really cut off Feefo on his favorite tracks
Myke the Kid C Town back again!
Best part of the album is when the beat switches on Cataracts and the first thing Freddie says is ..”RIP to the JACKA.” Respect for that one. #BayArea
Oh shit it's fucking Granddad!!!!
Just like the album, I highly anticipated this review! Great job guys. Am surprised it didn't click with Ken, "you may need to retire from deadend hip-hop" 🤣🤣
Bless Myke for defending MF DOOM. All caps and respect when you mention that man.
a friend of mine told me that the reason yassiin and them sounded like that was to match the antique sound of the sample on education.
Bro Myke face at 0:10 got me crying cause I had the same damn reaction 😂😂😂
I think Freddie mentioned that they were in the studio together when these beats came together
Roc Marciano and madlib is the one we really need
the world ain't ready for that heat
The sacrifice off of Pimpire strikes back is prod by Madlib so that’s a nice taste of what that would sound like
I agree with that statement in the beginning, yeah Madvillainy is a goat project but joints like Piñata and Bandana shows how much Madilb evolved and shows how well the chemistry between him & Freddie is. Freddie Gibbs can really channel himself into his beats
Its up to each subjective taste but you cant deny MF DOOM's BARS are lightyears ahead of Freddie Gibbs braggadocious raps. And you cant oppose with that FACT.
Unbelievable album and thank you guys for the review as always! I personally think that Pusha and Freddie were pretty even, but to keep it a buck I have Freddie over Black Thought on Education.
When gamer dude touched on situations he lost me soon as he failed to mention the true kings of that vibe Bone Thugs ..the song literally has a Krayzie Bone reference from “Days Of Our Livez” 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Christian Vazquez Yep i was hoping Wooly would say it. Freddie confirmed he was listening to that song a lot on the the road at the time and it's one of his favourite songs.
Really there is so much to unpack here, it's hard to cover everything
I love the beginning with the general warning statement. that was pretty dope.
this album did exactly what it needed to. Fred and Madlib are a top tier duo.
In my opinion, “Bandana” eclipsed “Piñata”, the problem with “Piñata” is it had way too many features and didn’t really allow Gangsta Gibbs to shine. “Bandana” showed off Gibbs technical skill and innovation of rap. I could tell he was enjoying this and enjoys Madlib constantly challenging him with beat switches and different cadences.
My favorite tracks are:
“Half Manne, Half Cocaine”, “Palmolive”, “Massage Seats”, “Fake Names”, “Situations” and “Cataracts”
That's so stupid that people get mad at what equipment/technology a producer uses. It's about the ideas/creativity and quality of the fuckin' beat. With that said, I go back to Pinata way more than this.
Great review guys.
Been waiting for this since the album dropped!!!! Let's GOOOO!!!!
what about the Talib & Madlib Liberation album? lol
I still listen to that album. Amazing.
Underrated classic. One of my fav Madlib w a rapper projects. Time is Right is one of my fav tracks of all time.
Yes everyone, you are seeing everything clearly on your phone/screen. Granddad is wearing a Kangol hat... WITH the brim forward.
IT BUMPS IN THE WHIP! END OF STORRRRYYYYY
Facts
It's a super super dope album, on repeat for me and a most def a 2019 summer album
I hope the guys mention that Yasiin Bey has entered Andre 3000 territory. They make classic guest verses, then disappear.
Massage Seats is so underrated on this project
facts that sample and the drums on the hook does something to my soul
Wait a second..... Grand Dad is from Gary Indiana? Wait a second....219 in the house? What street and high school did he come from?
Yup. Lived on 41st and Jefferson near Glen Park. Went to Melton Elementary & Bailey Middle and would've went to Lew Wallace but shit was wild over there and my mom wasn't with it so we moved over to Porter county with the white folks lol. Still ended up in GI every weekend still tho.
Right on. My grandparents grew up in Glen Park. 49th & Adams. My grandpa owned that Car paint shop on ridge road in glen park. They moved to Hobart. I was born and raised in Hobart. Graduated from IUN. Next time you’re in the region, you’re always welcome to come in the podcast. Myke was on a few months ago. When my family moved from Chicago I lived off 48th & Delaware, then moved to Marshalltown, and went back to Glen Park 49th.
It actually wasn't the first time Black Thought rapped on a Madlib beat.

It takes a couple of listen to really take it all in because of the complexity of the beats and rhymes, its just different then pinata and just as good pinata. It feels like a good extension to pinata, my only gripe for the album is it could have had a better closing song.
