Being a young lad that enjoys track days but is also aware of risks I would like to thank you for the awareness of tourist days at the ‘ring. I have planned to go to the ‘ring at some point and will now definitely be looking more towards the track day option!
If you want to do TF and not take it so seriously then the best option is to rent a car out there. Check the T&Cs with the various companies, but I’m pretty sure with most you’re insured fully comp with a large excess to pay if you crash. Not ideal, but at least you know where your liability ends(i.e. £5k or whatever), rather it being effectively unlimited if you cause an issue to a third party without any insurance cover if you take your own car
Shout out to the #pinderwagen . Woohoo! 🙂 Oh, it's for for crashing 🤪 thanks guys 🤣 I have found similar to you with single day events, you feel more pressure to get your moneys worth. The 2 day ones are way more relaxed, whilst they aren't cheap, the travel costs etc are the same you find day 2 is way more chilled as everyone has had loads of laps.
Your trackday videos are actually alot better then other people. I also really love listening to you and Jay waffle on about the trackday. Makes me really wanna track my S15
those track videos are some of my favorites! It's sad when a channel finishes a project and just moves into the next one, without even showing the car being properly used. also, please take the M3 v10 back there when it's finished! The sound it will make down that main straight is going to be bonkers
I liked the content Being now 51 years old and living 130km from from the Ring (in Luxembourg) the intro resonated quite a bit with me, 15 years ago the ring-trip (albeit for me not really a trip) was so much more relaxed, today a tourist day is totally nuts.. too many people, driving so much faster cars, or maybe its just me being older and having 3 kids I didn’t go for years until last year I was dared to go by a friend visiting, so I went up there for a single lap and took my son with me. The plan was to drive my car up there, a safe lap, and return home without drama. It was a success and I am going again in September, for the same purpose
Couldn't think of a better car to take to the nurburgring. Well... until the m3 v10 is ready. Seriously though, very cool. Would have been a blast driving this late 80s dtm car on steroids around my favourite track in the world
Brilliant video guys, really liked the honesty and the back story to the trip. Keep it real and appreciate the little tips for anyone thinking of a trip! 😊
@phil....my steering rack solution, running a V8 m60b46 hybrid, alpina bottom end, and MRP bump steer correction spacers, think you are too. I'm running a purple rack offset probably 25mm to get the header clearance. As long as the rack is centred it doesn't matter if the body is offset. I run a spacer to limit the travel on the other side of the rack. It's still more than enough throw as the MRP kit has the trackrods closer to the kingpin. Lightning quick steering. Oh....and used Vauxhall Corsa universal joints, identical spline pattern and length adjustable
Cool footage, interesting you saying about the bumps, something which doesn't really occur to you when you're playing on a console. GranTurismo & BMW's FTW!
I did a circuit days trackday there in 2021, there was 90 mins TF after the trackday finished but I called it a day. An English chap in an M3 from the trackday had a big crash involving several other cars, the bill was in the tens of thousands of euros, plus his destroyed E92. Like you it’s a one in every few years thing for me due to the cost, but I don’t fancy TF ever again!
As one of the viewers who loves the track footage, here is a comment to express that to the algorithm lords on top of my thumbs up. I'll be sure to do the same if the Rae track footage in full goes up. 😊
Both cars are absolutely stunning chaps! Really enjoyed how you dissected the track day with some commentary. Much better than oodles of go pro footage
I just did my 1st track day at the ‘ring and the cost is 100% worth it, for the quality of laps alone. Much less traffic and better driving standards all round compared to TF. Also you don’t have the feeling of having to make every lap count, as you can do as many as you like. In the end you don’t really even pay that much more, considering a lap on TF is 30 to 35 euros. Sure, TF is a unique thing to experience, but perhaps for UK folks a rental from Rent4Ring or similar is a better option. Anyways, great vid once again, thanks guys!
Loved the footage, just got back from a weekend at the Ring with some instructed laps with Apex, still a TF session but very wet so not much traffic. Loved it, sometimes the rain is not all bad. The cost and risk is real as you say, I went in my AM V8 Vantage but I'm not in an income bracket where I can afford a crash, next time I would look a TD option.
+1 vote here for a seperate video with as much track footage as you can squeeze in ! I love it. Nice droving as usual. There is a lot to be said for playing it safe. Anyone can jump in a car and overdrive it and smash it up.
Loving the chat and the format lads and glad you managed to have a good time in the end. As long as it's not too much work for you Phil, I'd be well up for seeing just straight in car footage of a lap each from both of you. Sling them up and people can watch them if they want or stick to the normal vids if not
I was at a 2 day Ring trackday (VLN layout) around 2013, you were there in the V10 M3 and recall a sump plug issue on that too! Think the Ring always tests your ride height
This rings so many bells for me. I used to go a lot back in the day, at one point it was monthly. We always did it on the cheap with mates, and it was a laugh. I’d not been for about 10 years, so last year as a real treat I booked the Circuit Days trackday as I wouldn’t touch TF with a barge pole these days. I did the same as you guys; towed from Durham (lol) via the Eurotunnel, stayed at Apex etc. I had a great time, but I was also very aware of the cost all the time. Luckily the weather was perfect. Once I’d got home and actually added up the costs (including trailer hire) it nearly made me cry!! Needless to say I’m not rushing back, as much as I’d love to. Thanks for making the videos gents, always entertaining and appreciated.
I fitted a subaru impreza rack with slight modification to the subframe and i had to put threads onto the drumsticks along with a corsa eps column to an e30, the steering ratio was really good and parts were very reasonable. It has worked well for the last 5 years
As someone who's never been to the Nurburgring but has it on a to-do list. I'd REALLY appreciate knowing more about the Tourist day problems before going.
Basically TF is standard road rules and you have to have 3rd party insurance. The problem is unless you are German your insurance company is almost guaranteed not to cover any liability at the Nurburgring. Therefore you are personally liable for any damages you caused. Drop oil/coolant and cause a crash, you’re liable, injure or kill a biker and you’ll be paying damages for the rest of your life maybe. You must be very sure of your insurance coverage, else do a UK rules track day where you do not have the same 3rd party liability.
@peterdelamare has it covered. Essentially very few people from the UK understand just how much they are responsible for if something goes wrong & it's deemed to be your fault. The incident I am referring to supposedly had a total cost nearing two million euros.
Loved it - surprised track contact isn’t popular I love living through you both - glad I went to the ring years ago when it was cheaper and managed to get away with the risks - track day or rental car only for me when I go back
Brilliant video loved the narration on it which chatting between you two made it way more enjoyable and i hate driving videos normally. Watching years. Thanks lads for the content.
I was there same time as you, you towed this car through the ticket office car park whilst i was standing in the queue. I was there to do a few TF laps on my bike...i knows its incredibly dangerous but i just treated it like a fast rode ride and not how i ride on closed circuits. People going there to time themselves pushing it to the limit is when stuff gors horribly wrong.
Great video, not boring in any way, maybe drop a separate one with more track footage too. Have put my hand in my pocket 💷 and ordered some of your gorgeous DW merch 🤩
Good upload and that piss pot helmet is so 1970’s 😂 Makes me smile and no harm in just uploading a full lap video though as I could listen to that m car sing all day 👍🙏
Great video guys and like the view from the front of Phils M3 just show the track. Can believe it cost loads if you damage your car and need recovery, plus damage to the track. They must make a bomb off people and all the garages and tyre shops in the area must love it.
You should really have a break down lorry/van that can take 2 cars on it at a time . Ive always wanted to drive to Nurbergring back when i costed it out the fuel, and boat and train for the euro tunnel was €850 probably 10 years ago from here in Ireland 🇮🇪 to the track.
I live not too far from the German border in Denmark, and thought maybe someday towing my race car/track car(Not a street car and will never be)to the ring. Thinking it properly would not be that bad compared to going over the channel and all that? Great vid guys!
Best option for sure is Hiring a track car when you get there The occasions I’ve been to the ring , I’ve driven the car there and back. Once in a stripped/caged 400bhp Mitsubishi evo1 😂 More recently I hired a supercharged late camero for the whole trip, That was the way to go for sure.
Hey Phil, you can mount the E46 Steering Rack with the Purple or Yellow Batch. This is short like the CSL, it costs only 100 Bugs and fits better to the E30. Best Kenzo
Ah, I was listening somewhere else at the end and you guys are a bit too fast for my English skills! ;) M3 E92 makes sense but brings other problems, M5 E60 you could also try, has a different angle.
Brilliant video! Have been waiting for this since you mentioned it in the last video. Saw the e30 all loaded up and ready to go. Great advice on the tourist days. Hoping to see more of the 46 soon too.
Loved it!!!!!!!! Show more laps please, waffle as much or as little as you want. The colour of Phil's M3 is fuckin lovely. I think Jays car needs some Driftworks sponsorship.😁😁
Good video certainly more successful than a mates trip to the ring in 2006 basically a shared car and involved a mate using last ticket of the day , he basically came off backwards intio the guard rail and beached it at same time . Another lad in car had to bounce it off and they did a legger out the venue as some damage to armco I believe car came back to UK with rear end damage they fitted a pair of budgets before they went ....😮😮😮😮

Im surprised to here the track videos don't do so well, i always enjey them. The 200bhp club suff was great.
Yeah it's always been 5-10x as difficult to film and edit and does way worse than most other stuff unfortunately.
If you could just post up some laps from the E30 that would be brill nothing too fancy! Love the track day stuff as well 😊
@@driftworks I suppose the numbers don't lie, but I for one love seeing the cars used in anger on the track.
Guys, that was perfect. I get bored just watching endless laps with no commentary. More like that please!
Man I'd watch the E30 M3 do 100 laps on youtube any day. One of my favorite cars.
Being a young lad that enjoys track days but is also aware of risks I would like to thank you for the awareness of tourist days at the ‘ring. I have planned to go to the ‘ring at some point and will now definitely be looking more towards the track day option!
Still go and enjoy a TF, but treat it as a fast B road with no oncoming traffic and not Oulton park.
@@kurtf7170 I think the main point was the lack of third party insurance cover. That remains the same no matter how hard you push.
