Howdy Folks! Thanks for taking the time to watch this explanation video on each faction in the STALKER franchise. What's your favorite faction and why? I appreciate you! All the best!
And for your information, renegades are mainly ex-faction members or just rogue people in general, they are WAY worse then bandits, doing such horrid, horrific shit NOBODY accepts them. bandits, barely tolerate them at all
A note about duty you missed. You spoke of them wanting only to destroy the zone, but that’s not everything. ‘Dangerous anomalies, deadly mutants, anarchists and bandits, none will stop duty on its triumphant March towards saving the planet’. Their goal overall is to just minimise loss of human life, the zone is a threat to all of humanity in their eyes so it’s priority one, but they also do their best to protect loners from bandits and mutants. They’re the closest thing to a police force in the zone.
I accidentally joined duty on my first playthrough and they ended up becoming my favorite faction 😂 I was just accepting any and all quests I could find and found them, only after fragging about 90% of the freedom base and finally pushing further in did I realize I had just helped duty take out freedom 😂 once i pushed farther in and could finally properly see their uniforms I was like "well I guess I just joined duty"
Having Strider being a Noon leader in Stalker 2 is such a nice touch, especially since I remember meeting his group in CoP while they still were lost wandering around the zone not knowing what to do. There are many more references to past games and many characters still alive and in game during the events of Stalker 2. Good shit
Bought stalker 2 with no expectations and just wanted to support the devs but the game is literal love letter to stalker fans, all the characters, factions events and locations from the trilogy are here. Shame the game missed the deadline for GOTY nomination because it’s by far the best game released this year even if it’s not even working properly😅
I like the opposite dualism of Duty and Freedom. Freedom are wearing camo and their base is Military Warehouses. Duty are wearing (anarchist) black and red and their base is at the Bar
They're yin and yang, duty wants to make the zone safe or non existent and freedom wants to expand it and allow anyone to come and go as they please, freedom are hippies, duty are cops
Mercenaries can be reasoned with, certain ones anyway, especially when you're not interfering with their job. Some notable examples would be Leshy in Clear Sky, but also Hatchet in Call of Pripyat. If you bring them some food Hatchet and his squad will be friendlier to you, and when the security team protecting the scientists bunker disappears, you can arrange for Hatchet and his squad to take over. It helps get Hatchet's squad a stable source of income with relative, but not absolute, quiet.
I personally always liked the mercs. I never understood the dev's decision to make them predominantly hostile to most Stalkers on sight when in reality they should act like: "Don't get in the way of my contract and don't attack, then we're good."
I'd assume the Monolith "towers" are just tributes they built, notice they say "Oh Monolith we can't hear you" while praying to it. The C-Con is gone so they no longer hear the Monolith, their building the towers or Shrines is a better word, in order to try and re-establish contact with the Monolith.
Neat video, first video I saw from your channel and I must say its a neat & easy to understand your faction debrief/rundown. Here are some notes to each faction: Miliatry & Ecologist have these sub-faction people called either Eco-stalkers or Military stalkers that are more affiliated with them. Its quite unsure if they are provided Legal enterance (probably after some service & being a good asset). They are however in the ecologist/military faction but still do their job more closer to basic Loner duties. For eco-stalkers, it would be taking data or field research and you can find such a group at Yanov near the bunker, that will later get ambushed by a controller. For the Military stalkers, you can imagine the main protagonist from CoP Maj. D. , but he isnt as HOSTILE as any other military stalker is, due to them being now in the UA military and serving the cause which other stalkers dont see that welcoming. They either go undercover, if they wanna go to famous places like 100 Rad's bar or they grab their military provided Skat9 suit and rock the ZONE with it, providing scouting on safe paths and such stuff (sometimes snatching an artifact to sell it to provide funds for the local base commander if tasked to do so) Mercs are quite the odd bunch as they should be (to my knowledge) all easter european UA/RU/Belorus etc. speaking and professionals in the killing business. Their counterpart from west should have been the UNISG/ISG or UN/NATO forces, which were basically fully western and hate by all due to them being outsiders unwanted in the local area doing who knows what. note: ISG => international scientific group => western researchers UNISG => stalker anomaly faction of UN mercs that reorganized the group into a western secretive merc faction interested in documents (basically western mercs with no researchers anymore) NATO => like UA military but from the West, here to do the same as UNISG but they are NOT mercenaries, just professional soldiers - in the end, UNISG is just the best well known acronym for any western faction, due to the ISG armor existing in the ClearSky (game) files Freedom, Loners and Bandits share a common thing, they came to the ZONE to make money (Mercs too but they are not a point of my yappin here :D) While Loners are more honest and noble with their goals, mostly trying to get money as a poor lonley man to find an artifact that will get him a large sum of money to cure his daughter/son back on the mainland, bandits are there to take the money from people like him. They have done this before and they are in the ZONE because they either got sent here by their contacts or they fuc*ked up on the mainland and need a SECOND CHANCE on life as a thug. Now to my point => Freedom values the ZONE as a 2nd chance a LIFE in a lawfulles ZONE with no police and no rules, just pure anarchy. That portraied in the Clear Sky, these first Freedom members were just your basic Loners who did something wrong and had to bail, but still had their redemption in them, knowing they did nothing wrong and wanted just a 2nd chance at living and being in some group that would take them in, rather being a loner and getting robbed 24/7 xd In SoCh the group is more shady and seems filled with people of probably the same criminal past like the bandits, just dont openly talk about it (you can find & talk to the Freedom cannibal at their base....or well he talks to you haha). This boosts the faction combat power at the cost of making them look more anarchistic/partisan like & that just brings a bad name to the faction , making it almost look like Freedom is some neutral bandit faction. Duty & Military dont go hand in hand but its well known that high ranking Duty members have connections to some officers on the Mainland and get shipping of military grade gear for them, as you can find the downed chopper in SoCh "Red Forest" aka Radar (later renamed) Bandits are depicted amazingly, just if you wish to talk to borov, I think your best bet is either mod SoCh or play trough some old mod like Lost Alpha (I DO NOT RECOMMEND => its a walking simulator lmao) and you be able to get a different view on the entire SoCh game from some pre-launch game build experience. Renegades are just depicted weird imo, as if they are deserters, why they should wear the same armor/coats like the bandits? I understand that the game has this easy armor/color scheme for you to know your friend & foe, however for the renegades it seems kinda sad. I think it would make sense to see them wearing Duty, Freedom, Merc, Ecologist and other outfits (like zombified stalkers), more teardown as they lack any supplies (unlike the bandits who got their group Bosses to order stuff for them) and just chill in the swamps. Sad there isnt any mod about this. Imagine you are known to be the most scumbag faction and you dont fight that/try to exploit it by hiding your identity, you just wear some shitty black tracksuit and hide in swamps xD There is a HUGE debate on what is a Loner/Free stalker etc. In my opinion, if you come to the zone, you are NOT a Loner, as this implies you joined the ranks of the group called Loners (such in Clear Sky), you are a Free stalker (as is anyone called in the ZONE) and merely a tourist that is just factionless. You need to earn this right to join the faction. My point being that bandits have easier job picking on these lonley factionless rookies in the zone than on Loners, as Loners are a faction and therefore would go into some sort of faction X faction conflict between them, such is portraied in the Clear Sky games and at the garbage location in SoCh. Clear Sky faction is neat and to be TLDR: Its basically ductaping ecologist and duty factions together. They just wish to destroy the zone but actually use a brain before making any push to the center, while being underpowered they can still take on foes like monolith. The commanders of CS are also wanted by the UA military and therefore welcome the help from Loner recruits (that they trust ofc). Also its speculated that the Contractor in CoP plot is actually some Clear Sky commander like Lebedev, Suslov or Beanpolev, who survived and are now (like in the Clear Sky plot) using mercenaries to obtain said X lab documents to probably fight the C-Con their old way. Monolith were a faction before that was very friendly but still fanatical in belief the ZONE was created by aliens (something like the Hubologists from fallout lmap). They then marched into the center of the ZONE and when they either found the wishgranter OR crossed the brain scorcher, they got brainwashed at that time and turned into the hostile and well armed monolith members we know today, duing their biding for C-Con as their new masters disguised as the alien crystal called monolith. Just a sidenote, in SoCh you can see different variants of monolith fighters that look like zombified stalkers => its said that the brainscorchers has more settings to what to do with your brain . Some of them are: fry it and kill you, turn you into a zombie, brain wash you...but I speculate these SoCh zombie monolithans are something of a between product of this setting or well just more OVERCOOKED monolith members :D About the SIN faction, I think that they have a great concept and its a shame they are not in the plot. In mod games like Lost Alpha they are portraied very well (by storytelling and not gameplay wise, fu*k that walking simulator mod lmao) but in games like stalker anomaly they are SOMEHOW neutral with monolith? Which makes 0 sense as their creators were the C-Con and I bet they would want ANYONE from the SIN faction just dead, as they believe the ZONE is some sort of a GOD and you are in the garden of EDEN. Taking artifacts is like taking the apples from the forbidden tree and you are hurting the GODs (ZONA) creation. Funnily enough, it is true as the ZONE is alive and they are more of some takecares for her, like we got white bloodcells in our body, which is kinda wild and makes the faction even more valid to the story. I would like to appologise for my SPAM but I just wanted to open my mind and knowledge to you all. I am happy for any discussion on the topics & facts I posted, if you deem them false OR just straigh up bull*hit. Most of the stuff I know is by my self OR from Anomalous Dugout, which makes really great videos on the stalker games lore in depth. Anyway, have a good luck hunting stalkers :)
Reading over this now. Truly thank you for taking the time to write all of this down. This is why I make the videos I do, so we can share our shared knowledge of topics and games we enjoy!!
Man reading in you comment about the old mod Lost Alpha and dissing it.. I remember refreshing ModDB for YEARS hoping their beautiful maps would be playable one day. So sad that that turned out to be so.. mid.
The coolest thing I have uncounted in stalker 2 so far is the organized left overs from monolith not to spoil anything I won't say anything more. also searching all over for any left overs from clear sky
Oh man there is one part about 34 hours in that has to do with a hospital and monolith, one of my favorite areas of a game! Just for the ambience! And that’s awesome, I won’t spoil anything, but you’ll encounter some clear Sky stuff : )
@@Dog.Dad.StudiosJust did that mission. I did what the quest giver asked as well, so it was super tense going through it having to be extra careful. Haven’t played past getting back to the house, so a little disappointed atm that I went through all of that to get an item we didn’t end up needing :/
I ran into some bandits who had some voice lines saying they were clearing up any leftovers from Clear Sky, I still don't understand what that was about
I know there's a glitch (for sure on the PS4 version) in SoC that let's you join the Freedom faction. It's pretty much game-breaking since it makes the Bandits neutral and Duty and the Ecologists hostile. Unfortunately, most bandits just have a single line of generic dialogue and Borov himself just doesn’t react to you.
Thank you so much for explaining this! Now I don’t feel bad about destroying the camp for the X lab key. It is interesting they named them and even had the option. Hope all is well!
it is not really a glitch - it is left in the OG game since the release even with patches :D you can join freedom on PC too without any mods which makes duty hostile, so going back to 100rads bar much harder but makes you having access to literaly best guns in the game and best armor
bruh... I didn't plan to watch entire video... but I just kept watching it and catching a strong nostalgia about previous chapters... I'm a big fan of Stalker franchise and you did a great job by structuring probably most of the lore and make it more clear and understandable... Thanks.
There are pretty high ranked bandits in the PDA. It stands to reason no matter who you are, if you survive in the zone long enough you'll accumulate some decent gear.
As a ukrainian it's been always weird for me to have a firefight with ukrainian military. In that moments S.T.A.L.K.E.R. becomes a Spec Ops: The Line in a lot of senses...
Oh man Spec Ops might be a game I have to do a retrospective on.. very haunting. Thank you so much for taking the time to write your perspective. I hope your family is okay, and you’re doing well!
Renegades are a technical faction to be able to join the Bandits in the Depot in the Faction War against Loners Nice to find one more channel with Stalker Retrospecrive :)
Glad I searched down to find this. I was about to comment it myself. Renegades have some decent lore as bandit exiles, but they also mechanically needed to exist to have an early fodder human enemy but without using the bandits themselves. I guess the name "Diet Bandits" was taken or something.
Nice video! I will definitely be subbing for more Stalker lore! Small critique: Maybe work a bit on your audio balancing? Your voice is very low compared to the clips you show. Other than that fantastic video!
Thank you so much for commenting and taking the time to watch the video! What device are you using and could you let me know a specific moment that this happens? Thanks so much!
Just found your channel a few days ago looking for STALKER lore because I started playing STALKER 2 and forgot many things from the original series. I am really glad I did as I thoroughly enjoyed both your zone and faction lore videos! I would highly appreciate a story summary of the old series like you‘ve teased in this video :) You‘ve earned a new sub - looking forward to your future content!
I appreciate you so much! I can definitely do a recap video of the original trilogy, and I like to jump around from game to game; so I don’t have a definitive time table for said video, but it’ll come : ) Again I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to thoughtfully write this, it made my day! Hope you’re doing well and again, I appreciate you!!
18:58 I'm legit shocked how well they nailed down transferring area's from the first stalker games to Stalker 2. I legit remember this hallway and the building your in and crossing over into. It also has a bandit group controlling the area for a quest. However the building your heading towards has stashes guarded heavily by Shock Anomaly's that attack you aggressively now as well as the roof on the top floor is blown out...
A campaign mode and a free stalker mode would be cool. Campaign being the canonical ending and free stalker being a work with a faction of your choice and get a “what if” ending. It would be a nightmare, but I think it would be fun. “Mercenaries mode.” 😂
Id say anomaly does a pretty good job of this, if i remember correctly the most "cannon" ending of that was either cs or loner but hey if you want to play as a bandit who makes it to the wish granter and wished for immortality (invincible zombie) by all means, or you can even play as monolith or sin (although last i checked the sin content was still a bit lackluster, its basically the same as monolith but they have worse gear and they start in the red forest) if you try it i would turn on faction warfare too, they did a really good job with that system
STALKER Anomaly and the GAMMA Repack (if you can run it) show this. Also, not GSC made but STALCRAFT is the closest thing you can get right now to play a Stalker MMO.
@@Dog.Dad.Studios StalCraft* From what I have heard, it's ok, but it's definitely more grindy than regular stalker because it is also F2P and an MMO. Also more forgiving because of course in an MMO you can't strip the player of all their items. Someone said it felt like the Anomaly level of progression but without the bloat of repairing stuff carefully, I'm not sure if that's true but I do remember someone mentioning hours long firefights, idk how that works between players with limited ammo.
Privet Bra! I love these lore breakdowns, I didn't realize how much I missed the zone. I think we'd be friends if we met around a campfire with some grilled flesh. Stay safe out there Stalker!
Back when I played Shadow of Chernobyl on release in 2007 as a kid about to start high-school, I thought Freedom were the coolest. Almost 20 years in, I get what Duty are about, but I still remain a loner. Good strategy, as you can use some useful exploits - get Freedom to engage the hardcore Duty soldiers at the army warehouses and boom you've got a g36 which is adequate af to the very end of Shadow of Chernobyl.
Thank you so much for sharing this!! Absolutely! After all the trudging around in the early/mid game, picking up after a huge firefight always felt amazing, and pays off! First time I cleared the military with loners in Agroprom, I felt this too. Great source of easy ammo and weapons. Hope all is well!
It’s remarkable how well almost every OST from that series still freaking hits. I play Hell March when I’m walking the dog and I want to blow off some steam. Wishing you the best! Great ears!
On the question of lebedev and keeping his knowledge secret, I feel like we can somewhat explain it by context, the other factions are willing to send people into the laboratories many dying in the process for the knowledge they contain, if it was common knowledge there's a guy who had all the answers there's a pretty high chance they'd try to get him instead and some factions wouldn't probably shy away from torture if necessary. Also, factions that kinda oppose the clear sky movement in their ideology would probably act much harsher and prudently if they perceived clear sky as actually having a shot at completing their goals, and with that kinda knowledge you really have to at least consider it.
In a gold rush you don't really get rich mining gold. You get rich selling pickaxes and shovels. That's what Sid does, lets others mine while he profits.
I highly recommend playing the trilogy, especially now that there is a bundle for it. But if not, I do have a full retrospective series on them if you're interested. I think that's a smart idea to wait, right now I don't think its worth it in the current state, unless you have a connection to the zone (like playing the originals/really into the lore), but that's my two cents. Hope all is well!
In S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Anomaly, If I want to kill everything on sight Renegade and Monolith are my best picks, but if I want to look cool-edgy while murdering everything on sight I'd go for UNISG. I really like these 3 factions and definitely my favorite.
Stalker 2 is my first stalker game, and I didn't realize how bad the monolith are. There was a side quest where a monolith guy saved a guy I needed to bring back and he was nice and was healing the guy so I killed the group that came to kill the monolith dude. And was confused why everyone was mad I did that even though he was being cool. Too bad I'm way to far past it now cuz I wanna reload the save and not do that 😂
Well, the renegades had strong ambitions in the swamps but they fell off quickly due to no real leadership. Although they had influence in the red forest aswell, even sporting fenced mercenary suites, they never got to do anything. According to the games, the renegades were the worst of the worst, people who were desperate, have commited terrible crimes no bandit would imagine, to be a renegade in the time of Clear Sky's events is not good, very not good but I hope that they get more light shed upon them.
Clear Sky IS the dumbest faction in Stalker with no competition, since they in order to stop 1 guy from reaching the center of the zone brought like 50, what were they expecting to hapen, there was still shit ton on Clear Sky member's near the center so C-Con just blasted them all
I think he doesn’t say anything about his connection to the experiments because 1 no one knows about the origin of the zone yet, and scar is still kinda an unknown, and 2 scar is an asset because of his ability. And if he takes it poorly and leaves clear sky after finding out he helped in making the zone they just lose their one person who is resistant to emissions, but my favorite faction is the ecologists because I am a studying nuclear engineer myself!
I might be mistaken but I thought Military and Duty at least got along. Most Duty members are ex-military with more in-zone flexibility basically. Edit - Realized you probably address this later in the video, going to continue to watch Edit 2 - I'm almost positive Lebedev is the hologram that talks to you at the end of SoC..since he goes missing at the end of CS... it's the same voice or am I crazy?? lol
You're right, Duty is ex-military, and the current military isn't friendly with them from my recollection, since Duty is more of a forgotten facet sent in at the start of the Zone. But if I'm off on this, please let me know. Ahahah I thought the same thing, but they make it clear in CoP that Lebedev left all that, but was the head of lab x-8 which he knew about most of the experiments. Hope all is well Thriceee! Thanks for taking the time to watch and write!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Basically I was fighting for my life against a huge squad of duty on dark valley. While trying to flee south I ran into a squad of monolith fighting a few bandits so i quickly helped them kill the bandits then we teamed up to take on the larger duty force
[spoiler] If I understood correctly clear sky was working for the c-consciousness and scar was already part of the stalker program, that explains why he could survive emissions.
Hi! I’m a little late, but I figured I’d share that the main character in Call of Pripyat shares his name with a famous Soviet machine gun, the Degtyaryov DP-27. The channel Forgotten Weapons has many videos about the gun, which also should tell you the correct pronunciation of the name.
It’s a great question! GSC has been uploading screen shots with captions, some which make it seem certain factions have really been hurt after the events of CoP! We’ll see : )! Maybe we’ll even get clear Sky 2.0!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios I imagine the sequel will be a direct sequel right? Só we are coming back to The Zone some time later. After the 3 games events. Só o think the zone is gonna be even MORE chaotic. I think.
@@JoaoVictor-rg5ix yeah I’m interested to know how long we’ve been away, since Scar is seemingly much older now, but strider still looks young? Also how long has it been that Monolith forces still hear some voice but others are free from it. Can’t wait to not move from my computer from November 20th to 24th ( I gotta cool Thanksgiving meals)
i don;t know why but, your voice is really quiet but the clips u show of the gameplay are normal volume, so i get jumpscared by the volume of the video. Don't know if this is on my behalf but please try to fix this😁
Howdy! Thank you for taking the time to write this. I test on three devices. My Sony studio headphones, my Sonos surround sound, and a regular tv. I try to make sure balancing is across the board mixed and on my end with testing, didn’t think the clips were overly loud or the voice quiet, but that’s with me. What sound system are you using? Was there a specific clip that was too loud or was it in general? Thanks for taking the time to reply and for taking the time out of your day!

Not sure what happened but overall great video😊 I apologize for my English, it's my 2nd language 😅
I remember I liked "freedom" more when playing Shadow of Chernobyl. Their chill vibe and the ONLY exoskeleton in the game with sprint option are probably the main reasons compare to rules and order of "Duty", not to mention their shitty "walk only" exoskeleton I am kinda sad the best exoskeleton in Stalker 2 is Monolith's one, but understandable, they have the best stuff in game. Imagine running in your rival's armor killing your rivils
I guess that I'm a "Stalker tourist" due to only getting into the series in late Covid lockdown in 2021, and with "vanilla"Anomaly as a 1st experience instead of the original games... well, it was hard to not give a go first with the full map model From all the factions, Duty, Mercenaries and Monolith are the ones who got most of my attention Duty being a paramilitary militia to keep somewhat sorts of order in the zone due to governmental incompetence Mercs being the "Cooler Loners" with good equipment and being some sorts of Boba Fetts of the Zone. Say, need some God forsaken document from a Soviet era bunker filled with demons? Hire us. Need some rival nation scientist killed? Hire us. The prime minister of Germany need some artifact to stop his hair loss? Hire us too. Monolith being the evil Giga Chads capable of ultimate violence, with top end armor and weapons with near to none explanation of how they acquire it, while mumbling non sense and worshipping a rock
We're all equals in the eyes of the Zone; no matter how or when we get into the franchise : )! Those were my favorites as well, but I am excited to see how far Freedom has taken over in the Zone.. Thank you so much for writing all of this, I truly appreciate it! Wishing you the best, and see you in the Zone soon S.T.A.L.K.E.R.!
Uggh my gripe is that the only factions I like and want to join are the token bad guys in every game, I want to workshop rock or get paid for sekrit document
Does anyone know if Tarkov takes a similar approach stalker does, where people are risking their lives to explore a zone cut off from society in hopes of making money? Never looked into tarkov lore but seems similar, just without mutants and anomalies.
It’s similar, same vein of government conspiracy, western influence and an area wardened off. There is a lot of stuff they’ve put out, so if you’re interested im sure there’s a ton on TH-cam : ) and yes no mutants luckily for the residents of Tarkov ahaha
Ehhh sort of, there’s not like regular people, scientists, or criminals like Stalkers are. Tarkov is more like Mercs vs Mercs with cultists sprinkled in
Unfortunately not, but you’ll have access to lots of them throughout the trilogy. Even after 30 hours in HoC I have yet to discover either duty or freedoms base or leaders ahah
New faction! I believe they are the guards or hired guns for the institute.. more to come! Just got to a pivotal place in the story with it! I’m still at a loss for what Star’s faction is called ahaha
maybe move the mic closer to your mouth or turn it up a bit. I have my system sound on 100 and the youtube video at 100 and I can barely hear you. Not an issue I have watching other videos so as far as I can see its your video
Howdy thanks for watching! I’ve gotten that response from a couple of viewers. What sound system are you using? I just watched a short bit on my iPhone at half volume and could hear it, but that’s on my end. I believe the discrepancy is due to the different software I used between video and non video. I do test on Sony studio headphones, Sonos surround and my iPhone, and understand that a small portion of others have described the same thing as you.
They are figments of deleted files and cool ideas unfortunately. They only appear in gamma. I personally would love for SIN to be real; an even crazier monolith.
"I wonder what duty would look like in Stalker 2 and whether the player will have any chance at reclaiming their former glory" Little could he know that Stalker 2 would gut all the factions, duty the hardest, in service for a sadly poorly written fan fiction of a story.
For factions I like to stick with the freedom stalkers (stalker 2) only because harpy allows me to upgrade the liberty exosuit early when you sneak into pripiyat

I like the opposite dualism of Duty and Freedom. Freedom are wearing camo and their base is Military Warehouses. Duty are wearing (anarchist) black and red and their base is at the Bar
That’s very interesting and I could never put my words on it like you have, thank you!
They're yin and yang, duty wants to make the zone safe or non existent and freedom wants to expand it and allow anyone to come and go as they please, freedom are hippies, duty are cops
in stalker 2 freedom now owns the bar, duty settled in a new base which is more like a military checkpoint, but the colours are still interesting haha
Been looking forward to this, enjoy the STALKER videos!
Hope you enjoy! It was a lot of fun to make! Wishing you the best, and I appreciate you taking the time to comment this!
I just finished watching the mutants explained, saw you referenced the factions and saw this right after. :D
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the videos! I truly appreciate it! Hope you enjoy!!
Here are some notes to each faction:
Miliatry & Ecologist have these sub-faction people called either Eco-stalkers or Military stalkers that are more affiliated with them. They either go undercover, if they wanna go to famous places like 100 Rad's bar or they grab their military provided Skat9 suit and rock the ZONE with it, providing scouting on safe paths and such stuff (sometimes snatching an artifact to sell it to provide funds for the local base commander if tasked to do so)
Mercs are quite the odd bunch as they should be (to my knowledge) all easter european UA/RU/Belorus etc. speaking and professionals in the killing business. Their counterpart from west should have been the UNISG/ISG or UN/NATO forces, which were basically fully western and hate by all due to them being outsiders unwanted in the local area doing who knows what.
note:
ISG => international scientific group => western researchers
UNISG => stalker anomaly faction of UN mercs that reorganized the group into a western secretive merc faction interested in documents (basically western mercs with no researchers anymore)
NATO => like UA military but from the West, here to do the same as UNISG but they are NOT mercenaries, just professional soldiers
- in the end, UNISG is just the best well known acronym for any western faction, due to the ISG armor existing in the ClearSky (game) files
Freedom, Loners and Bandits share a common thing, they came to the ZONE to make money (Mercs too but they are not a point of my yappin here :D)
While Loners are more honest and noble with their goals, mostly trying to get money as a poor lonley man to find an artifact that will get him a large sum of money to cure his daughter/son back on the mainland, bandits are there to take the money from people like him.
That portraied in the Clear Sky, these first Freedom members were just your basic Loners who did something wrong and had to bail, but still had their redemption in them, knowing they did nothing wrong and wanted just a 2nd chance at living and being in some group that would take them in, rather being a loner and getting robbed 24/7 xd
In SoCh the group is more shady and seems filled with people of probably the same criminal past like the bandits, just dont openly talk about it (you can find & talk to the Freedom cannibal at their base....or well he talks to you haha). This boosts the faction combat power at the cost of making them look more anarchistic/partisan like & that just brings a bad name to the faction , making it almost look like Freedom is some neutral bandit faction.
Duty & Military dont go hand in hand but its well known that high ranking Duty members have connections to some officers on the Mainland and get shipping of military grade gear for them, as you can find the downed chopper in SoCh "Red Forest" aka Radar (later renamed)
Bandits are depicted amazingly, just if you wish to talk to borov, I think your best bet is either mod SoCh or play trough some old mod like Lost Alpha (I DO NOT RECOMMEND => its a walking simulator lmao) and you be able to get a different view on the entire SoCh game from some pre-launch game build experience.
Imagine you are known to be the most scumbag faction and you dont fight that/try to exploit it by hiding your identity, you just wear some shitty black tracksuit and hide in swamps xD
There is a HUGE debate on what is a Loner/Free stalker etc.
Some of them are: fry it and kill you, turn you into a zombie, brain wash you...but I speculate these SoCh zombie monolithans are something of a between product of this setting or well just more OVERCOOKED monolith members :D
About the SIN faction, I think that they have a great concept and its a shame they are not in the plot.
Hope all is well!
it is not really a glitch - it is left in the OG game since the release even with patches :D
you can join freedom on PC too without any mods
which makes duty hostile, so going back to 100rads bar much harder
but makes you having access to literaly best guns in the game and best armor
@@Karti200 thank you for the explanation!
Yep can confirm accidentally joined freedom i my first playthrough so i had to start all over again, welcome to the zone.
its not ps4 only it's a very old actually Anomalous Dougout talked about it
bruh... I didn't plan to watch entire video... but I just kept watching it and catching a strong nostalgia about previous chapters... I'm a big fan of Stalker franchise and you did a great job by structuring probably most of the lore and make it more clear and understandable... Thanks.
I really appreciate your comment on multiple levels, thank you! Hope all is well!
Don’t feel bad, the US has US civil war simulators a plenty. And of course gta.
That's an interesting perspective and makes sense.
Well you're playing as a literal outlaw
As an American we have too many games to count where the player faces the military so I never even thought about that, interesting point.
Renegades are a technical faction to be able to join the Bandits in the Depot in the Faction War against Loners
Nice to find one more channel with Stalker Retrospecrive :)
Much appreciated! Very excited I started to write the clear Sky retrospective! Hope all is well and thanks for taking the time to comment!
Glad I searched down to find this. I was about to comment it myself.
Renegades have some decent lore as bandit exiles, but they also mechanically needed to exist to have an early fodder human enemy but without using the bandits themselves. I guess the name "Diet Bandits" was taken or something.
27:04 lol, renegade gets winged , headshoted, and a full backflip down the stairs 😂
I laughed for a while when that happened, had to put it in! Hope all is well! Thanks for watching!
I would highly appreciate a story summary of the old series like you‘ve teased in this video :)
You‘ve earned a new sub - looking forward to your future content!
I appreciate you so much! I can definitely do a recap video of the original trilogy, and I like to jump around from game to game; so I don’t have a definitive time table for said video, but it’ll come : )
Again I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to thoughtfully write this, it made my day!
It won't attack you if you put any artifacts on you in your inventory
Awesome video. Concise, easy to understand and 🎉 x
I appreciate your kind words! Thank you! Welcome to the community : ) Hope you’re doing well!
6:38 this would be so funny to mix with the half life 2 teleportation to breens office
A campaign mode and a free stalker mode would be cool. Campaign being the canonical ending and free stalker being a work with a faction of your choice and get a “what if” ending.
It would be a nightmare, but I think it would be fun.
“Mercenaries mode.” 😂
If stalker were an MMO : )
@ is StarCraft any good?
@@Dog.Dad.Studios StalCraft*
From what I have heard, it's ok, but it's definitely more grindy than regular stalker because it is also F2P and an MMO.
I’ll drink a shot of vodka and eat some baguette and salami with you any day : )!
Thanks for the kind words!
Clear Sky kinda reminds me of forest rangers. They are my favourite.
Thanks for sharing this!
Hope all is well!
i was born in 07 and i love stalker!
Thank you very much. Love this explanation. I hope A-Life gets fixed soon in Stalker 2 . I wanna play this game
I appreciate you! Hoping you have exhilarating and fun times in the Zone!
When Balock tries to blackmail you, go talk to Karlore.
He will show you where the treasure is buried.
THANK YOU BROTHA, I just started S.T.A.L.K.E.R and was so confused because I thought I was killing guys that I “aligned” myself with. Thank you
Happy to help!
Instantly got me gripped when you started using the C&C Soundtrack
It’s remarkable how well almost every OST from that series still freaking hits. I play Hell March when I’m walking the dog and I want to blow off some steam.
Wishing you the best! Great ears!
Subscribed, good channel and well explained
I appreciate you, thanks for joining the community! Wishing you the best
@Dog.Dad.Studios onto the next video, just got my pizza ready
Enjoy : )
The Stingrays crashed because they used maps for anomaly detection, not knowing they change with emissions
thanks its been years I need a refresher.
Thank you for taking the time : )
As of STALKER 2, Clear Sky may as well be summed up as VACANT LOT
On the question of lebedev and keeping his knowledge secret, I feel like we can somewhat explain it by context, the other factions are willing to send people into the laboratories many dying in the process for the knowledge they contain, if it was common knowledge there's a guy who had all the answers there's a pretty high chance they'd try to get him instead and some factions wouldn't probably shy away from torture if necessary.
Also, factions that kinda oppose the clear sky movement in their ideology would probably act much harsher and prudently if they perceived clear sky as actually having a shot at completing their goals, and with that kinda knowledge you really have to at least consider it.
really nice lore overview
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch it and I truly appreciate your comment! Hope all is well!
In a gold rush you don't really get rich mining gold. You get rich selling pickaxes and shovels.
That's what Sid does, lets others mine while he profits.
I really hope Sid will be in Stalker2, still with his funny ascent & trying to scam as many people as possible.
"STRELOK~~! WHAD DA HELL~~~!!!" 😂😂🤣🤣😆😆
If I don’t have Sidorovich eating chicken and saying “bullsh*t” as a call back, I’m going to be very sad
Ok i am sold , next sale for the PS version of the trilogy ill buy it :), i guess i should thank you for spending some of my savings lol
I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on them : )
Freedom was not chased out by bandits. It's absurd. Freedom moved to Military warehose following its capture
They get targeted by mercenaries that use bandits and their own soldiers to take freedom out. You can see the change from Clear Sky to SoC
I never had a chance to play previous titles, but I'm very interested in this one. I'm planning to pick it up after a few patches.
Met Scar in Stalker 2. He's not all there.
Wait until you’re 20 hours into his quest line.. it’s pretty awesome!!!
That guy got brain-fried multiple times and one was at point blank in the CNPP. No wonder he's barely "there".
Great video thank you
I appreciate you! Hope you’re doing well and enjoying the game. :)
My headcannon was always that Clear Skys members were turned into zombies, or they became Monolith members after the emission
They elaborate on it a bit more in HoC, have you played it?
they became monolith i think, which explains part of their numbers in shadow of chernobyl
In S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Anomaly, If I want to kill everything on sight Renegade and Monolith are my best picks, but if I want to look cool-edgy while murdering everything on sight I'd go for UNISG. I really like these 3 factions and definitely my favorite.
Love me some monolith runs!!
Would like to hear the cut factions
Thank you for watching and taking the time to write this! Very much noted, and will be another video : )
heh... he said doody
Too bad I'm way to far past it now cuz I wanna reload the save and not do that 😂
BANDIT = CHAD CHEEKI BREEKI
Hey, if I remember correctly it's "Deg-Tie-Rev" as the pronunciation (in english, at least) for Degtyarev.
I appreciate you : )!
I'd love to see more about them in the new game, almost a month away!!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Yup. 6 more days untill god's graces gives us this gem, hailing from the heavens!

A person of taste and culture ahaha!
That’s amazing! I wish you all the best in your educational journey! You’ve got a fan!
I might be mistaken but I thought Military and Duty at least got along. Most Duty members are ex-military with more in-zone flexibility basically.
Edit - Realized you probably address this later in the video, going to continue to watch
Edit 2 - I'm almost positive Lebedev is the hologram that talks to you at the end of SoC..since he goes missing at the end of CS... it's the same voice or am I crazy??
Thanks for taking the time to watch and write!
i also love SIN, one of my favorite playthrus on anomaly was SIN
Any memorable moments you’d like to share?
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Basically I was fighting for my life against a huge squad of duty on dark valley. While trying to flee south I ran into a squad of monolith fighting a few bandits so i quickly helped them kill the bandits then we teamed up to take on the larger duty force
[spoiler] If I understood correctly clear sky was working for the c-consciousness and scar was already part of the stalker program, that explains why he could survive emissions.
STALKER 2 converted me from a hardcore Freedom guy to Duty after the shit I saw.
thank you
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to watch the video and comment. Hope all is well!
Shout out to the Old Skool Rainbow OST.
Hi! I’m a little late, but I figured I’d share that the main character in Call of Pripyat shares his name with a famous Soviet machine gun, the Degtyaryov DP-27. The channel Forgotten Weapons has many videos about the gun, which also should tell you the correct pronunciation of the name.
Never late to start a conversation with me : ) thank you so for taking the time to share this! I want to work on my pronunciation
@ Always happy to share! Keep up the quality work, this is a great video!
Wonder if all of this factions are coming back in Stalker 2.
I think.

Saw this watched on my phone audio was all good in the zone for me stalker
@ I appreciate this! I truly try for the best mixing but know I have a lot more to learn
damn you kinda skewed my view of clear sky
The zone shows all truths
Loners were called "free stalkers" in Call of Pripyat
I remember I liked "freedom" more when playing Shadow of Chernobyl. Their chill vibe and the ONLY exoskeleton in the game with sprint option are probably the main reasons compare to rules and order of "Duty", not to mention their shitty "walk only" exoskeleton
I am kinda sad the best exoskeleton in Stalker 2 is Monolith's one, but understandable, they have the best stuff in game. Imagine running in your rival's armor killing your rivils
I guess that I'm a "Stalker tourist" due to only getting into the series in late Covid lockdown in 2021, and with "vanilla"Anomaly as a 1st experience instead of the original games... well, it was hard to not give a go first with the full map model
From all the factions, Duty, Mercenaries and Monolith are the ones who got most of my attention
Duty being a paramilitary militia to keep somewhat sorts of order in the zone due to governmental incompetence
Mercs being the "Cooler Loners" with good equipment and being some sorts of Boba Fetts of the Zone.
Tarkov is more like Mercs vs Mercs with cultists sprinkled in
Wouldn't say "without anomalies", seems like some of these mercs can see through walls
Volume balance is really bad.
Can you join all the factions?
Unfortunately not, but you’ll have access to lots of them throughout the trilogy. Even after 30 hours in HoC I have yet to discover either duty or freedoms base or leaders ahah
All hail the monolith 🙂
Hello envoy of the monolith
I fucking LOVE monolith
"You're next you political scumbags" my favorite line to this day in the game
YOU DIDNT TALK ABOUT SIN !!!
I wish they added them!!
Sorry to Disappoint about Sin in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
All Old X-Labs are though.
Ahh what could have been!
Brother i loved the video but you are way way way too quiet. bump your volume up a lot
I appreciate it! What device were you using? We’re all parts quiet or only my audio? Thanks so much!
Wgat about The Ward?
Who are the ward / wardens ?
New faction! I believe they are the guards or hired guns for the institute.. more to come! Just got to a pivotal place in the story with it!
I’m still at a loss for what Star’s faction is called ahaha
@@Dog.Dad.Studiosthank you I just got out the swamp area
@@Sym6937 it was wild wasn’t it? I thought we had hunted the last of the species.. if you know what I mean ahaha
Yeah you where right I just got to the institute and the ward are all up in there
@@Sym6937 enjoy! The game picks up from there it seemed, at least story wise : ) men will never learn about hubris!!!!!
I want another explanation video
What topic would you most want to see?
maybe move the mic closer to your mouth or turn it up a bit.
Thanks for taking the time, Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
Why is the audio soooo low man?
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. What device are you using for audio? Which specific audio is low or was it the whole video? Thanks so much
@@Dog.Dad.StudiosI'm using a phone and dude has a point. It's not unbearable but I do have to max out my volume to hear it at a regular medium level
@@jeambeam3173 gotcha thanks for giving the feedback, which phone are you using? When listening on my iPhone it’s pretty clear at mid range
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Wow thanks for answering! Sorry it took me 3 weeks to realize it lol. I watch your videos with earbuds while welding, yeah there's a lot of background noise but it doesn't seem to happen with other videos.
Love the content man, keep it coming!
@@pipe_2k719 this is so awesome! Welding is such an important skill and hard to master! Thank you for making things people use each day!
I think I’ve figured out a big portion of the audio mishap and have it implemented it for the new videos, so I’m hoping that makes a change. You’ll have to let me know : ) if able!
All the best, and I truly appreciate you taking the time not only to write back but also watching my videos.
Happy holidays
i am a Freedom enjoyer
Freedom bad
-Duty gang
Долг ... Doesn't mean duty it MEANS debt my man ... Ijs
We don't care, it's translated like that in English (and in French too)
@@drent102 the thing is, he is wrong
14:32 is this some kind of poop thing?
where UNISG / SIN?
They are figments of deleted files and cool ideas unfortunately. They only appear in gamma. I personally would love for SIN to be real; an even crazier monolith.
@Dog.Dad.Studios :(
I love the trilogy but Anomaly and GAMMA are just cooler cuz of UNISG and SIN 😭
Real mfs fight along side freedom 😎
And smoke with Ganja
Marked one what the hell!!! 🗣️ 🗣️
"I wonder what duty would look like in Stalker 2 and whether the player will have any chance at reclaiming their former glory"
Little could he know that Stalker 2 would gut all the factions, duty the hardest, in service for a sadly poorly written fan fiction of a story.
I was kind of shocked how little we get of the major factions from the trilogy, hopefully a dlc will expand it
one-person-armies? 🤦
???
the audio is a bit too quiet
Howdy! Thanks for commenting! Was it a particular part? Or the whole video? What device and audio were you using?
Little did you know while making this that , you can’t kill God just like you can’t kill the sky above our heads
For factions I like to stick with the freedom stalkers (stalker 2) only because harpy allows me to upgrade the liberty exosuit early when you sneak into pripiyat
Why are you whispering and most of the video
What device are you using? I test on Sony studio headphones, my iphone, and my sonos speakers
Good old times of racist accents...
