Amazing series! Enjoyed watching all 5 episodes. Hope I never have to do this job. What a nightmare!!
Camera work, audio and quality is top notch! Thanks for doing this!
Glad you went through all this trouble and explained everything in great detail. If my 3v ever needs major work, I'll be sure to use these as reference. Thank you!
You got it! Thanks for watching!
My son's friend broke a rocker arm... we just got the right head off(not doing both) and followed the series along! Been doing this all my life but never did this exact vehicle. Thanks a million! This series was spot on! Now just got to take the head to the machine shop...
That's unfortunate. I hope that it works out. My heads were out of whack when I brought them in. Need some regrinding and such. Good to get it all knocked out though. Sounds like you guys are being thorough and doing it the right way. good on ya. Glad the video helped!
@@Rythecarguy thank you again!
🤘🏻💪🏻
Just got into the 3V world myself in Feb of this year(2022). I have spent about 4-5 months on repairing a 2008 4.6L engine(still now). Putting it in a 2006, which was a V6 4.0. Was supercharged but blew it, Oooff. My own mistake. Excellent detail and work. I got stuck at timing/heads. Thank you very much. Soon to be on the road!
That 3v loves to eat bolts and sparkplugs for breakfast, good info mate! definitely useful.
A Great series of videos but I wouldn't want to attempt such a huge task.
the garbage bag idea saved me a few times while trying to get those little buggers back in, thanks
Glad it helped!
This is such an amazing video! You and Chrisfix are awesome! Definitely subscribed!
Thanks for the sub! I appreciate it.
Great Video's Ry. I have a noisy Lifter and 180K on my 05 GT, so want to have the heads gone thru. New Cams and timing chains. Your videos have given me complete confidence. I've done heads on a few engines in the past, but they were old small bock Chevy's and Dodges. I've been wrenching on my own cars since 1984, so I'm an old gear head, that's trying to step into some newer stuff. Don't worry, I still have my 84 Z28 Camaro. Thanks again, great videos man!
Another excellent video. Really well shot. Your deserve many views!
using these to replace all my timing components, can't thank you enough!
my pleasure, thank you for watching.
Great video series. Really appreciate the detail.
Does the stock timing chain have different color marks?
Just finding this page and awesome job and wow incredible detail and well done
Welcome aboard! Thanks so much for check out my videos. :D
Seriously appreciate this series
I am currently following this video series step for step. QUESTION: Do I have to remove the sparks plugs in order to remove the heads? I don't think you mentioned this.
No you don’t have to. But it might be easier if you do it while it’s still on the engine. Just in case you need to really torque on it.
@@Rythecarguy can link the part information for the pulley puller you used
It would have been nice if you would have told us what we should go ahead and replace while the engine is torn down.
Water pump? Timing chain? Tensioners...
If those original marks are a tooth off does that mean that the timing is off?
I'm thinking I would have tried using a boroscope and tried to retrieve the pieces.
I'm thinking using 1/4 inch tubing with vacuum suction to retrieve the pieces.
Great series of videos - I’d like to do cams and heads on my 05
Love the sound of that V8
Thanks! So proud of this car. Have not done a full teardown and rebuild in at least a decade.
Are you able to replace the crankshaft and bearings without taking the motor out?
If you had a lift you MIGHT be able to pull it out from the bottom. To be honest I don't know exactly what the bottom looks like anymore. It's been a while since I've owned the car.
enjoyed this ill be doing mine in a few days
Nice, hope it goes well!
Nice content good stuff. I want to take out my pistons and connecting rods. After disassembling the engine like you did is it possible te get the pistons and rods out of the bottom of the engine by removing the oil pan?
I very much doubt that. A lot of blocks are designed with obstructions on the bottom of the cylinders so you would not be able to slide them out. Even if you could, getting them back in would be nearly impossible as you would need a flat surface to slide the rings past.
Smart young man. Thanks, love my 09
Thanks! Yea I had a lot of fun with the Mustang.
Question. I know it's been awhile. If you remember. If you pulled your heads off why would you time it? You had to time it again when replacing the timing kit correct? So essentially you timed it twice??? I'm getting ready to install my heads back on but I never timed anything. Because Im replacing both camshafts. I didn't remember any of the orientation. I figured heads off put piston one at tdc and replace heads and then set cams to where they are on the exhaust stroke. Am I correct?
I just timed it so I know that the pistons are in the right position before removing the heads. That way I can slap the heads on, through on the phasers, make sure those are in the right position and get the chain installed. Thats all.
Thanks again for replying. You rock.
Incredible video thanks a million
My pleasure man, thank you for watching.
How did you remove the plugs from the head once it was off the block?
I didn’t, I extracted all of the plugs first.
@@Rythecarguy I have some that the extractor wouldn't bite in to, still stuck in the heads
do the plugs have to be removed first? or can you take of the heads with the plugs still attached
Should I change out the head gasket as well? My car has only 40k miles on it. I'm only removing the head because I accidentally dropped a valve while swapping out the valve springs
Yes you absolutely should replace the head gasket, they are not reusable. You also need to replace your head bolts.
Shit that sucks! How do you avoid that if you had to do it over again?
Appreciate your videos!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching.
How did you get the torque specs for the rebuild?
I have a Factory Service Manual. I get everything from there.
Thanks bro appreciate u help me out alot!!
for future reference the fan comes out with two bolts and a plug... and gives a lot more room
I like to make my life more difficult. LOL
@@Rythecarguy lol fair enough
You turned the engine? Isn’t there a piece of spark plug in there? Wasn’t this a bad idea?
There was but I had no choice. I had to get the motor timing correct before taking it apart.
@@Rythecarguy Why not use a cylinder cam to see the pieces of metals and then pull them out?
I need to find out why I have low compression in one cylinder, 2007 mustang gt, no smoke out of oil fill, cap, all cylinders 150 psi, number 4 cylinder 75 psi, started after oil change and new plugs,, ?????
Did you do the plugs yourself or did you have to plugs done by someone else. Also how many miles were on the plugs?
Sounds like your mechanic did a screw up on number 4 cylinder and he wants you to come back so he fix it or you to buy a new engine
You need to post these videos on a mustang Facebook page
I should! Thanks Ahmad. :)
Hi can you send me the first video of second third and fourth please have a 2005 mustang GT 4.6 3 v
They are all on my channel under “Mustang GT Repair”. You can go look at that playlist or watch the first one by going here: th-cam.com/video/z2LPPgiaElU/w-d-xo.html . At the end of each video there there is a link on the screen to watch the next one.
@@Rythecarguy so I think I'm getting ready to do this timing chain and I'm scared to death I watch videos on end my cams should be at 11 driver side should be at 12 the bottom dot at 6 the key at 11 and the timing chain cover off how do I go about locking the cams down I got so many unanswered questions besides me being terrified of this happening I also need to replace oil pump and the head on the passenger side both cam phasers both sensors so you got any pointers and ideas it would be appreciated I'm a broke individual otherwise I'd have a mechanic do it
This whole project looks like it would be less work to remove the motor before pulling the heads :/ thats what ill probably do lol
It might be easier to disassemble the engine once it's out but it certainly wouldn't be less work. It would be more.
it is absolutely ridiculous that what should be a 15 minutes menial task, ends up in a major multi-hour engine disassembly. Shame on Ford for such bad design.
Agreed! I was piiiiiisssssssed
