I'm still completely shocked this was the first time they legit tried for a more futuristic setting for a DQ game.

Being able to ride your monster on top of platforming definitely seems like it would add a lot to a game about befriending your monsters. A whole new level of interactivity!
i am so happy whenever you upload man, please keep it up and rebuild your channel!! It's a proven thing now that youtube DOES stunt channels that take long breaks inbetween posts by kinda stunting their visibillity and such in order to encourage users to upload more often, i've watched a few documentaries and yeah it's proven lol it's a pretty dirty tactic but oh well, i hope you can keep doing these!!! DQ is a HUGE franchise with an untapped potential for content and you're the absolute BEST channel for DQ stuff!!! a decade long faithful subscriber here among thousands of others
The main appeal of the Monsters series to me is being able to rear various monsters from across the games so my biggest issue in Joker 3 was the large amount of recolours.
Since I played it before the fan translation released I didn't have as much fun with it as with other Monsters games but seeing this retrospective makes me want to replay it with the fan translation.
yup. the small roster and massive amount of recolors drag it down for me too
This. The recolors killed for me. DQM 2 remake in other hand... Literally the game who have more unique monsters in the franchise. (800 on 3DS and 900 on mobile with more or less 5% recolors.)
the fantranslation pro version can be play without much trouble in a an old citra version , it is really good and runs almost perferct i use the nightli 1252 version and runs pretty fine and my pc is really old so.
edit: never encounter gamebreaking bug is playabe from start to end including both postgames.
Dude I was having a shitty night, couldn’t sleep, and went on TH-cam to see that GC dropped his new DQ Monsters video and it genuinely turned my mood around. Keep uploading man, I really enjoy watching these videos and has been a reason why I still keep playing my 3ds. Thanks man.

I beat this about a year ago, started just playing it for fun and ckeared the whole thing. A shockingly fun game

It's crazy that this game predates 11 with monster riding.
I remember seeing the trailer for DQMJ 3 professional on Siliconera and waiting for bated breath for it to get localized. It never did but at least now I can know what I missed out on. I still don't know what the deal with the sci fi elements are but I hope the franchise uses that aesthetic again.
The best DQM game, I just wish we got the full translation of the pro version

But disagree with JOKER 3 being the best DQM in the series.
Altho I liked the ability of riding monsters and other minor features like scanning monsters in battle and items and post-game minigames, You didn't highlight the major and very visible drawback of J3: The lack of unique monsters. JOKER 3 is the game of the entire DQM franchise who have less unique monsters, more than half of the roster there are just recolors, probably the reason (not even mentioning the nerf in the animations of all monsters) that sold less than the remakes. Also, some monsters in DQM2 remake change when they enter in a poisonous area as well (Ice world).
And tbh if we look all DQMs, DQM2SP mobile is the ultimate DQM game, with no doubt. The lack of unique monsters is huge for me and keeps me away from this game, unfortunately.
two things that in my opinion keep this game from being great:
1. the roster is too small with too many recolors. maybe it's this way beacuse every monster needed ride animation but in a monster collecting game this can be a deal breaker. most of them are from dq10 which i don't have a connection with and so many important monsters are missing. fusion gets less exciting too, if you'll most likely end up with another recolor
2. the difficulty. this is the only monsters game i gave up on. i barely squeezed by snapped off after a long grinding session and then got my ass handed by the big orc. from what i've heard i'm not the only one who had this experience with the game
I wish they remake these games. I tried playing joker and it's so dated😢
Whats the best way to play it today? I tried pro on cutra a few months back but had heavy freezes/slowdowns that made it impossible to play
