There is a picture of the DQ7 Script out there when it was in an exhibit and its a bookshelf filled with giant books. If you find you could probably estimate the size
I played it a few years ago and had a ton of fun. Best feature for me was the recruiting and stacking of different vocations. One of the best spinoffs imo
70,000 pages of text is definitely unbelievable... But I could buy 7,000. Game text is mostly short snippets in massive numbers, it inherently takes up more space - Hence word counts being used more often, because it's a more useful statistic. So think of that more like 2000, and then account for how much text exists in games outside main story cutscenes... I could see it.
Really enjoyable video! You have a great writing style for your scripts. Didn't even know this game existed until now. I love GBA entries in series like this because its like the last gasp of the designers making a proper 16-bit game. Also, if you're interested may I suggest you cover the Shining Force games? 1 and 2 are fantastic SRPGs with big Dragon Quest vibes.
Great video! I’ve been watching your Dragon Quest content recently - and well I got myself DQV, DQVIII, and DQXI all thanks to you… I can’t believe I never gave this franchise a shot before - thank you! And keep it up!
I uhh.. really don't agree with the idea that DQMJ was an attempt to tone down the uniqueness after Caravan Heart failed. The game that completely changed the monster catching system entirely? That turned the series 3D? That went for an entirely different setting and continuity not connected to ANY preexisting dragon quest game? One that was also a completely wild pivot to more edgy teen-aimed stuff and a bizare half medieval half scifi setting? The one where the final boss pivots so far away drom toriyama's usual art style he looks like a resident evil character?? I dont think just backtracking on the caravan system means they werent still trying new things. Its just that this time the new things actually succeeded, and got backported into every future game including the remakes of the originals. So people often forget the Skill/Talent inheritance and Scout Ring started here. Idk its far from a perfect game but its problems come from early DS jank and performance issues, not a lack of ambition. Interestingly the beta version of DQMJ was actually gonna go back to an easy and safe third Terry game, the DQM 25th Anniverary artbook has interviews talking about it. "DQM World Tournement". Was both a return to safe gameplay but also far too ambitious for the DS hardware. Cos it was planned to be a big quasi open world thing with multiple routes choosing to side with GreatLog, GreatTree or DeadTree, and a massive tournement between them all. Also woulda kept the recruitable human allies but not other parts of the caravan system. So its kinda funny how they both tried to play it safe but also go ridiculously ham and make the best nonsensically idealized ultimate game nobody could ever actually succeed at. Itd be cool if someday we actually got this with modern technology! The scout ring also started as a magic fishibg rod and then became a magical deck of card, presumably why the game got the name Joker. Theres also beta designs for the protagonist as a much younger pirate character, Solitaire in a green dress and Dr Snap with a generic labcoat. That last character also had a wildly different personality in japanese and the translation comparisons are fascinating! Anyway lol Ive got a weird soft spot for dqmj so i'm sorry i rambled too much. This video made me real happy to learn an equally huge level of facts about Caravan Heart too! Me being salty about DQMJ doesnt mean i didnt enjoy the heck out of your work and im excited to see more!
The only DQM game where you can fight more than 3/4 monsters, like the mainline series. Also, I don't get it why SQEX removed the monsters following us off battle after Caravan Heart, It was so cool and immersive to see our monsters walking with us.
This game concept seemed interesting as like a simulator for managing a whole army or something and managing everyone's individual abilities and how they work together, but from just watching it felt like it stopped short of letting you make important decisions that would really enhance that feeling. Still, trying new things is good, it's just a shame when the whole thing gets thrown out because it wasn't quite where it needed to be the first time. Also that's enough GC sign-offs to keep you occupied for a couple weeks, so make the most of them by rigging a motion tracker with a speaker to randomly play one when you leave!
I had always assumed Caravan Heart covered Kiefer's adventures with the Roamers after leaving the DQVII party. Overall it seems like for every great idea they had for this game they also had a bad one.
So it's base on two boring games. Yeah, I'm going to pass on this one. I loved dragon quest 8 but i hated part 7. I also loved the zombie version of O trail. The party layout seems cool & interesting..i give it that
"I somehow doubt it was 70,000 pages"
Someone clearly hasn't seen the legendary bookshelf.

Thank you for watching! That means a lot!

LET'S GOOOOO WEIRD-ASS KINDA COOL BUT UNFORTUNATELY MID DRAGON QUEEEEEEST
Somehow i'm glad that DQ played safe.. look at FF.
This game deserve a remake and a modern update to some of its features, its very very good for a GBA game!
Great script and great variety of visuals here!
Love anytime you put out a video.

Welp. Looks like I need to go get an emulator again. I absolutely need to play this one. It'll have to wait for Infinite Wealth to be done, but still.
Thanks for not showing me this for 3 months even though I have all notifications for this channel turned on, youtube. Very cool.
In the Woodus forums, a text dump of the game was measured as having 264,400 words. It's not 70k pages of text.
This can be 1k pages double spaced.
TH-cam really said “no” and didn’t advertise this video huh? I didn’t even get it recommended. That sucks.
new gc content :)
I’m okay with experimenting with this series. Just don’t do another Caravan Heart because it’s uhhhhhhhh… not good.
wake up babe, new gc+ video just dropped! ❤
Maybe the words are really big on each page 😂
Whoever does these games subtitles i got some words for you:
Whats the thinking process
It was prolly 70,000 words
