My favorite thing is that people naturally found spots on the castle to build their own little houses, many sharing walls to other ones.
Honestly very reminisent of medieval hill town construction, where natural rock walls (and the walls of neighboring homes) do a lot of work for you. Lots of stone-built hill towns throughout Europe are from this tradition.

It's a shame that the game relies on software accelerator cards instead of graphics cards because of UE5; what a waste of resources.

Pax Dei Dev 1: Should we advertise more?
Pax Dei Dev 2: Nope. We let the players do that
I don't get why the devs didn't post this on their social media. Looking fw to the game.
i put 36 hours gathering wood, keeping charcoal kilns working creating charcoal for teh blacksmiths, farmed beeswax from our bee farm and crafted wood beams for this project just friday saturday sunday and monday.
This was the most fun weekend ive had in a long time. Jackhammer, you did amazing man. Hope to see everyone for EA / Launch day. i'd love to do this again :)
Somehow missed this game! It's sounding better and better!
Great work! Thanks for contributing to this insane project!
Kaliroses here, Glad to have spent the weekend with yall!
good work, Pal
thank you so much
This is the greatest representation of strangers coming together and creating something beautiful in a game to date
Exactly! Some ppl earlier were making fun of these ppl but honestly I love to see ppl come together. The things ppl can accomplish is clearly incredible

@@IncognitoActivado what are you smoking i played this on a 7800xt just fine
As someone who helped build this, im very happy with the outcome. Glad I was able to do this with everyone I met during the playtest. All hail the bald one ❤
This game is so amazing and it has the best aspect of mmo which is playing with people and build something together
shows you how fucked up real life has become...
This'll be novel for a week tops. If the game doesn't offer more than building it won't survive for long
@@KevKlopperJust wait till they introduce taxes and beurocracy. Gotta get a license and a permit before you put a single brick down, and once you finish it, you get taxed based on the new value of the land. It'll be so realistic!
@@Zadamanim And i guess pvp against each other? Isnt their weapons?
I wish I had your optimism. The more the game relies on people coming together and building something the worse it'll be abused. Far too much of the gaming community enjoy trolling and griefing more than building something together and the more you care about it the more enjoyment they get from it.
It's cool that it changes from Insects and Meadow noises at river level to wind noises and echoes at the Mountain top!
This isn't the final build.
It will get updates.
It will get better.
_I will play this._
Sadly its not really an RPG. Its a builder sandbox with some PvE. I hope it gets a lot better. Woodcutting and Mining the whole time wasn't very fun XD
@@TheRealTrucido You have no idea what RPG means. This is definitely an RPG game.
@@Dannnneh Even the official website doesn't call it an RPG, they call it a 'social sandbox MMO inspired by the legends of the medieval era'.
Which is fine, calling a game an RPG comes with certain expectations from the player, most of which don't appear to be met yet in pax dei, and they seem keenly aware of that, and appear to wish to focus on different aspects than an RPG would normally.
Yeah if they ever release it! still no release date!
@@dealerslicenseops well don't want to make a promise, it only getts sketchy when they take forever like star citizen or ashes of creation.
Pax Dei really owes it to Asmongolds community for coming together and showing off what the potential for this game is.
A very wise man once said: " The future of gaming is not on AAA games."
Thats 89% better than most level design in AAA games today 😂
This is nice, I guess, if you like beautiful things. 😉
I feel like if they had a month it could have been comparable to stormveil castle
AAAA games even
fighting system sucks balls tho
@@JanPapiezGaming No i love it. Learning how to use it to killed named mobs solo is fun as.
Imagine being another player having no clue that's there and seeing it from a distance at night for the first time....
What a day
And when u come near, u walk into actual community of real people who built the thing and reside there
Imagine this game but with Souls or Dragon's Dogma combat. Not sure if it could be achieved in an MMO format, but I probably wouldn't engage with real life any more if a game like that existed.
Was just thinking something similar to that. Ultima Online/Elden Ring/Dragon's Dogma/(some kind of mordheim or civilary)
devs should give all those people the keys for the final game, this is a huge marketing announcement and a collective effort worth being remembered for months/years
It’s free to play
@@bwfextreme oh really? I thought that you needed to buy it, good to know
OTK just needs to buy the Pax Dei studio and oversee the development. This game has so much potential.
Nah , they'll add battle pass and pay to win monetary elements to it
@@PrinceLobo-es8kldefinitely that and early access 😂
I hope someone from Asmon's community truly does a drone-style run through of the castle with epic fantasy music.
You said the entire mountain would be a castle I’m sure you meant to say “The Castle would have some mountain around it”
😂
Pretty impressive build. Reminds me of, "I like my sugar with coffee and cream!" -Beastie Boys
This castle contains 50% organic mountain.
Asmon doing more game journalism than a lot of game “journalists.” It’s glorious.
You're actually right, I didn't even think about it that way, but it's absolutely correct.
Yea, that was an eye opening observation. Zack has more game info usefulness in his pinky than the entire Kotaku staff. They probably saw this game and said it is demeaning to florists in Argentina.
This was so fun, I'm glad to have been a part of it
Thank you for your efforts. Incredible.
I feel nostalgic of an experience I never had. That is living in a castle during middle ages. I love stone buildings with woidwork. It just feels right.
This game has so so much potential. If they get the combat done well. As i said earlier, it would be awesome if other streamers would build their own clans too.. for example 5000 members, their own castles and areas. And then just battle it out and see whom is the strongest. Who has the strongest clan. It would be awesome! Either way, i am 100% there and every minute of it, when this game launches.
yes the combat is big if they get that right, with the pvp siege.
5:09 that´s what she said
This is like a real castle. They used the hill or mountain to use as a foundation and build with it.
And actually from a defensive perspective, you do not want to hike through a hillside with +10 kilograms of equipment while some fockers throw arrows at you
Our King finally has his castle 👑 All Hail King Baldy 🙏
I"m all for this to be a series!! The whole concept is cool and if they could get combat down leveling more dungeons raids this game would be top tier!
I’m shocked your comment doesn’t have more likes, because you’re absolutely right.
In the dungeon, maybe put some actual tanks with shields in the front. Then use spears and 2-h as well as bows/ranged from behind shield wall..
When a bunch of gamers get together, love to see it.
Im French and it remembers me our medieval cities like "Le Mont Saint-Michel" and "Cordes-sur-Ciel".
Looks cool. "No terraforming" That sucks. That was exactly what I did back when EQ Landmark was running. I built a huge castle on the top of a mountain, and it had multiple dungeon levels with hidden rooms extending down. I put gear chests in the hidden rooms, and visitors would occasionally find them and even leave gear behind inside it for others. A shame that game didn't work out. It was very cool being able to dig endlessly and find caverns and mobs below in later patches.
Props to the builders. You guys are truly inspiring and this was amazing to witness.
Asmond is genuinely blown away, he is speechless at times.
I love it so much. The side of him that “some” people don’t see
Would be cool if dragons spawn and attack the castle. It would be so crazy to defend that mountain from a dragon attack with people shooting ballistas, arrows, and magic spells at the dragon as it glides by breathing fire at everyone.
Great streams on Pax Dei 🏆 you also had some brilliant brainstorming on game design with this and the previous one. It’s exciting to see you engaging with the future potential of gaming, in real time!
Sounds like your server “wipe” ideas would work well, along the lines of Ragnarok or other related mythology of catastrophe etc.
This is amazing to see, good job everyone who worked on this. It looks spectacular!
This is art! Well done to all involved! When will this game drop, dates??
Sad to see all that work disappear but excited to see what the next one will look like. Bravo to all of those involved.
Impressive work guys! The keep looks great. Wishlisted this game when I saw this. Lots of potential.
Similar to the easter scene my parent had two different scene we set up for Christmas. One was a Antarctic elf scene and a Jerusalem scene. You can peek in the windows and see elves working or gardening in a green house etc. so much detail, so i love seeing stuff like this.
Looking forward to when you guys get more time. Good job!
Amazing stuff. I enjoyed watching this all progress.
Incredible! Amazing work to everyone who was involved!
This is an incredible community feat.
Hats off to everyone involved.
What a treat to see the final build!
I think Asmond has a few architects and engineers in his party.
i think a simple improvement to HUD would be to change the color of ally health bars, right now both enemy and ally health bars appear red, and that can be confusing
This is crazy and amazing at the same time. The force of 1000 gamers is nothing to scoff at.
Finally, thank you editors for not cutting out content.
This is an astonishing build. Hope you guys get to do more with it in the future.
The back of the fortress is pretty grand ... need more lights back there.. back could actually look more like a castle than the mountain front.
U builders are incredible, u showed us what a bunch of ppl can really do united. Thanks guys
I hope y'all got some amazing screenshots from this. Every single person who built this should use it as their wallpaper. Hell I even want it as a wallpaper. Looks sooo damn good. I legit can't imagine what this is gonna be like when they have no time limit. Gonna be mind boggling.
Respect brother. You deserve the very best. I love how your peeps show you love bro!!!! So incredible!!!!
if you ever get to rebuild this in the full game my suggestion is the area where the forest is at the base of the mountain should be mostly farming villages just to make it more believable that a city like that could exist.
how do i join this and other people like this so when it comes out i can join fam
@@SStormReich find a clan or discord group i guess. i dont really know for certain.

props to whoever made that bridge at 0:32 you could sell that on the unreal asset store.
Looks amazing, I hope the developers are going to add some arches and vaults to the set of building pieces.
On the subject of MMOs struggling to balance the incentive to compete versus other players against the negative aspect of losing something, I think one thing MMOs haven't explored fully is the idea of focusing the competitive aspect entirely on performance rewards.
And by this I don't just mean "If your side wins you get more XP/Items/Gold progression", but rather explore the idea of players who perform above and beyond regardless to if they're on the winning side or not getting recognition by their faction/guild/group for a period of time. So the incentive is to perform well regardless to outcome for a positive return, rather than to try perform better to avoid a negative outcome which hinges on the requirement that your side collectively wins. Only to get frustrated when despite your efforts your side collectively loses and feel like your effort goes unrecognised.... with the latter being what most MMOs are built around currently.
So if you performed above and beyond in a larger scale fight, even if your side ultimately lost, merchants might sell items cheaper to you, market places might offer lower transaction fees, you might get access to certain facilities or vendor supplies normally not available to you that offer some additional convenience benefits for a period of time all for "Being the hero of xxxxx battle who valiantly stood their ground despite the fact that the prospect of victory looked grim", and the people respecting you for fighting for them even when the outlook was bad.
Now obviously there would need to be a incentive to still ensure your side wins, and also to not just try perform enough to meet a pre-set criteria threshold and then feel you're done as your 'recognition' is assured.... so what you'd have is the competitive aspect come from only a handful of players on each side be able to receive this kind of special recognition with the criteria being driven by the performance of the players themselves rather than by some developer pre-assigned line, with each side having its own performance metrics.
As for the incentive to push for your side to win, not just to pad your own performance that could come in the form of a secondary multiplicative reward state applied to everyone who participates who fought for the winning side. Or any number of variations of that general approach.
Once you start viewing competitive incentives from that perspective, rather than a "If it's not a victory, then it's just a flat out loss and your effort is invalidated" one, a whole lot of different avenues start to open up, that if you were to design a series of interconnected systems from the ground up that are all designed to play off each other, it could end up being something pretty interesting I think.
You know the minute the servers go down, the devs are gonna log in and play around with Asmongold's house
You mention fast travel at 1:35:10 Pax Dei does have teleport to shrine which you used to get out of dungeon. However what you might not have thought of is that it teleports you to nearest shrine in the zone. So as soon as you cover more than half the distance to the next shrine you can teleport to that shrine. So you cover more ground without all the running. Similarly swap servers by crossing the red zone line, fast travel then will go to the nearest shrine in that zone which is usually a fair distance into the zone.
This achieves the limited fast travel you were talking about. It covers significant areas to fixed points on the map thus speeding travel without being game breaking.
That said mounts would make a lot of sense too, along with carts.
When i was a kid i lived in a town in Oregon called Brookings, i used to go to this playground that was a big intricate wooden castle with towers and swinging bridges and little tunnels connecting different parks. I was only 6 or 7, so its probably a lot smaller than i remember, but it seemd massive and i would get lost in it, in the best way. This build reminds me of that park and this is the coolest thing I've seen a group of strangers come together and build!
its missing the one thing that makes it stand out as LOTR, the very top middle where the balcony over looking the whole castle is missing it extends out over the middle of the castle. but i get it, not enough time to build it. i hope when it goes live you guys do it right, other than that one thing, this looks amazing!!
My favorite thing about this whole concept of player built cities, architecture, and structures is that this is going to help player retention tremendously. Players are going to be a lot less likely to leave a game where they spent hours upon hours building their very own envrionments.
my favorite thing is seeing asmon talks about what he wants in a game and hes always talking about guild wars 2
Pax Dei needs to give you a dedicated server so you can muster your minions and show us what you can do in a month- wow.
Really hope they would allow medieval decors, arches, trusses, butresses, etc.
This has been a good series of videos, This game has that feeling of playing a good mmo for the first time.
love this stuff. if they could please nail the combat and game loops it would be amazing
This is like in those novels about fantasy games in which the players start playing an adventure game, building villages, towns and bastions defending against monsters, delving into dungeons, slaying dragons. A few years later the game ends and everyone finds out they played the beta version. After a few months the game is released and their actions are described in ancient myths in the game, towns became cities, cities became ruins, along with the rise and fall of several kingdoms.
Haven't gotten to play this game yet, but this is beautiful. Great things to come
This is glorious!
All hail the king of the mountain!
For AsmonsHold!
The dungeons make me think of
"Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon"

He should put the song "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg next time. It's even public domain, so there's free use recordings out there.
@@ivanjelenic5627 did not know that!
Thanks!
Surely they plan on fixing the issue with trees growing back through structures you build? That really sucks lol
That's like three lines of code. I'm more concerned about the combat system. You can make a decent one in ~500 lines, but you can waste 9000 for a terrible one.
@@NerdGlasses256 500 lines maybe for Mario style combat where you jump on top of them and they die
Well it happens in real life unless you dig the roots so just add that so should be possible
@@user-qn2vs1up7o Yes, as evident by all of the trees sticking up through our buildings and paved streets. I'm sure Rome had trees shooting through the Senate floor. Anything is "possible" if you are talking about unmaintained structures over a long period of time, but we are talking about a game where it's an obvious oversight that ALL of the trees that are removed and built over will re-spawn in the same place after a small amount of time.
@@rykehuss3435 Yes, but as simple mario combat is, it perfectly serves it's purpose.
Can confirm love this. Awesome work.
Legit interested to see what will happen once it goes live, granted you are actually going to play it as well at that point.
I had so much fun running the dungeon at the top of the castle and doing all the tailoring for everyone. This was some of the most fun iv had in gaming in years and I miss everyone already and I Cant wait for launch to meet everyone again!
Is server wipes customisable? Is progression/ item loss on death available?(for adrenaline spikes)
i love how asmon wanted to showcase the mountain keep then get mesmerized by bridge
man im so tempted the building shit is so badass... that would sustain me for while im sure of it
I'm just imagining the stuff that is going to be built when people have years in this game
not possible, we currently dont have the talent to build a server object consistency.
Scam citizen tried to do it, not really great, but cool concept.
Pax Dei will start despawning objects otherwise its gonna hit the performance wall and slap it into your face.
@@SilentWhisky Could be solved with recent breakthrough in server meshing
@@SilentWhisky whaaaaat? star citizen created server persistent entity streaming. That is an entirely different thing. It is nowhere near as intensive. There is no reason without decent servers they cant achieve this. It's been done a million times. On a side note star citizen has been massively improving the technology. Its become quite stable(mind you there's a lot of work to do). Also they recently implemented seamless server meshing. I'm not sure if you've seen or looked into the tech behind that, but it is actually groundbreaking. It is a technology that can make things like the PES system possible.
@@SilentWhiskyIf you still think Star Citizen is a scam you just haven’t been following it. It’s taking it’s time but it’s definitely been delivering experiences for it’s player base.
If the devs for that game are smart they would save that build and import it into the live game as a permanent city hub.
Exactly.
Now you need a big ass DRAW BRIDGE!!!!
His smile and optimism: Restored
1:26:33 Jade Dynasty had a similar function where you would click a button and float in a crystal ball and gain passive exp while afk, i gained allot of my gaps between tachi pill quests that way. (tachi pill quests where normally every 10-15 levels and gave you between 8-3 levels per completion depending on your level). Cant believe i can still remember that but "tachi pill" is spelt correctly according to youtube.
its been cool watching the progress. gamers being gamers. love to see it.
The greatest social experiment in gaming coming this summer...
God this MMO is gonna be stupidly amazing if cooperation and creativity go hand in hand like shown in this video, all in which to attribute something to a greater picture.
how big is the map ? is it only what we see here or there is other biome ?
20:42 waving guy
This is incredible. Nice work to everyone who contributed!
When the game fully releases, they need to also have a little town at the bottom of the mountain. Have it literally be Whiterun 2.0
i can't wait until guilds or groups have some sort of zoning laws/ rules for builds where you have to match a certain style of build. I love diversity of builds, but if theyre done with some overarching styles or design choices it can really make a town or street pop with it own character.
I haven't played most MMOs but in The Infinite Black had a durability system where dying in PvP would gradually damage your gear, the repair of which is very expensive. And after certain threshold, the items would become droppable on death. Basically, there is a definite cost to dying, but it's also pushed far away into the future so that you don't necessarily have to worry about it, and you would exactly know what the risks are. This would also affect the market value of said items - low durability items are not worse in gameplay in any way, they are just less "persistent" so to speak, so it depends on how desperate you are.
TIB along with OSRS also has PvP and non-PvP areas and I REALLY like that kind of design, where you can hang around in safe areas and choose when to take a risk. It's similar philosophy as the gear thing, you always know when you are taking a risk and there are no ugly surprises. I think there's there's much more room for innovation in conditional PvP systems for MMOs, in a way that ties to the world and player status, it doesn't have to be just always on or forever optional.
playing The Realm Of Gondor as he explore the castle actually fit really really well
They need to just put this in the full release as a built in landmark and put an NPC named Asmongold at the top
That's really impressive. Very cool stuff!
The performance on this seems incredible
Azmon running down the stairs like voldermort in the beginning of the video 😂
They need Conan's pve purge mechanics, & next map we get terraforming!!!
Haven't even heard about this game until today and I already want to go all the way into building things!
Incredibly impressive feat of community-based architecture in games. Pretty much a literal Minas Tirith. Hope something like this makes a return once the game sees a finalized release (gonna be hell to maintain this though lol) but it's amazing to see what people can create in a week with nothing but passion and creativity backing them.
