My son is coming for a visit-he’ll be here Tuesday! I haven’t seen him since June 2019 and I cannot wait to cook for him. He would love this, but I’m not sure I’ll get 6 servings out of the pie! 🤣
Enjoy being able to see your son again! I finally got to see my youngest daughter who I hadn't seen since February 2020. She was here for two weeks. It was heaven and went way too fast. Just before Feb 2020, she was in Germany with her husband (military) and I got to see her every few months. They returned to the states (3,000 miles from me) and Co-Vid happened...really, really missed seeing them.
add an extra side dish" Veggie" to stretch the meat pie a little further...enjoy your visit, just saw my 3 sons after not being able to visit for 23 months
Serve him a bowl of soup first followed by a salad along with crusty rolls. Then serve this dish with sides like Cheryl did. Mashed potatoes and broccoli are a few other suggestions. For sure you will get 6 servings. Don’t forget a nice pie or cake slice for dessert. Or pudding as they call it in the UK.
I can't believe you hate making pastry! It is so easy using a food processor, it literally takes no more than one and a half or two minutes to make enough for a nine inch diameter pie. Instead of the flour to thicken, try using beef gravy granules, they do the same job of thickening but add so much more flavour. I love the addition of the Worcester sauce, also your comment "let that simmer for a wee while" brilliant comment and lovely accent that you have. Thank you for your post and I wish you every success with your wee channel!
This looks like home! I haven’t made this kind of thingy since my kids were wee ones. I’m taking care of my Momma now. I think this will go on next week’s menu. She’ll love it silly! Love your menus. I’m over the big pond in New England so we don’t have the grocery stores you do. But I still watch the hauls cuz I love listening to your voice and your accent and terminology. I get a few hints I can roll over to my grocery shopping but I enjoy all you do. Thank you.
That looks absolutely amazing I love pies they are so versatile just as a snack or with mashed potatoes and vegetables and gravy or with chips and beans or mushy peas or garden peas and gravy yum yum 👍👍🥧🥧🏴🏴🏴🏴
I kinda got half way to making this pie last night. I made Mince and Tatties for my boy and myself. Id love to make this pie, but i actually dont have the space to make the pastry. It looks super tasty tho. My son and me would love it.
cheryl again this looks great, i love pie and chips myself,. i left scotland as a wee girl but i really miss the bridies , tattie scones and fritters . so ihave been able to make some of these things myself with your help from your receipies . long may you carry on x
I followed your instructions . I doubled the mixture including some potatoes. I put half of the mixture into the freezer for next time . The pie is in the oven cooking while I am typing this comment. Thank you 😊
My mum used to make this pie when we were kids, it was my favourite, she's in her 80s now and no longer bakes, your video reminded me of how lovely it was x
This is perfect for me but think I will go lamb, well drained. I do not bake and have the long covid so not much energy to cook. Got the frozen puff pastry but can't find short crust here and i dont want to roll out pizza dough. But I bought some individual pie tins and will make this without a bottom, freeze them tin and all ready to go in the oven.
I made this today and it was DELICIOUS! The family absolutely loved it, flavor was amazing, crust was perfect, all in all I give this a 10 out of 10. Many many thanks for sharing all of your amazing recipes and videos, much love from the states.
Cheryl a recipe for your " balls of doom". Part steam or boil for 5 mins cook then half them pan fry in sesame seed oil to reheat. Also carrots steam or boil then add sweet n sour sauce to coat. John
Oh I knew this would be the dinner to serve my visiting in-laws this week. All those "thumbs up"... couldn't get any better :) Thanks for sharing this!
Pie chips & peas Cheryl. What's not to like? Had to chuckle when your pastry resembled a country! Mine does the same! When it looks like the UK that's when I get worried! Lol xx
Looks delicious. I’ve made several times your meat and potato pie recipe. I made it when we were visiting our daughter and her husband, and they loved the meat and potato pie. I even made an extra which I froze and put in their freezer. Then, after we returned home, a month or two later, they had the other meat and potato pie. The meat and vegetable pie in this video will be a nice addition to a nice dinner option for the fall as the weather starts to get colder. The meat and vegetable pie is a good comfort food recipe. Thanks.
Spectacular. You’ve done it again, Cheryl! Sorry to keep going on about my late (Aberdonian) mother, but this is just so her. I’m going to have my sister and brother-in-law over for lunch and give this a go. Fit rare!
Has anyone ever suggested to brown the mince as if it were a giant hamburger? A year ago I read if you cook the mince until brown on one side (veggies surrounding it) flip it over and brown on the other, then break up the meat. I sears in the juices, and adds additional flavor. You get the dark brown bits that make for great gravy. It takes maybe a few minutes longer to cook it this way, but since I started doing it for all mince meals, it really makes a difference!
Wow! I'm going to be making this very soon. My mouth is watering! Still loving your channel Cheryl, thank you for your delicious recipes. When I feel like relaxing and need to de-stress, you are my go to.😁❤️
I have always use my own pastry and shortcrust was the first thing I ever learned to make more years ago than I care to remember. I use a fifty fifty mix of hard baking margarine and lard, I occasionally use butter but quite honestly it does not make much difference apart from the cost.
Cheryl, have you ever tried using a suet pastry to top your pies or even use it with your fillings to make a steamed suet pudding. It makes an easy case to fill with mince, steak , or chicken pieces.
Hi Sheryl how are you doing today it’s 725 in the morning here in Philadelphia Pa 🇺🇸 love your wonderful recipe hope you are doing well 🙏🏽✝️🙏🏽✝️🙏🏽✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸
I so love the measurement “a knob of butter”. I never hear a cook in the US saying that! I have a question though…is that a standardized measurement, or a general guide? 😆
Hi foks :) The tin I used in the video is now linked in the description box...lots of you have asked for it x
I am german, my husband is from scotland. I made this pie yesterday...... he said, it tasted like home😍 thank you so much. Greetings from Germany

Did he survive??
Yummy. We used to eat a lot of meals like this when I lived at home in Northern Ireland. Good wholesome filling food for a family. 😊😊

This is great. We used to do this in individual size but of course add Portuguese chouriço. Makes everything yummier! 😃 🇪🇺
Sounds great! Individual pies are wonderful! :)

Thanks for sharing this!
This looks delicious! My mum was brilliant making pastry whereas I just like eating it
Yummy. I've never managed to make mince pies. But your video has encouraged me to try again. Thanks so much.
Love it. I think I will make mine in separate little dishes. I will cut back the time since they are in little dishes. Such an easy recipe. Thank you.
I think a portion of that pie alone would be a whole meal for me. It looks hearty and delicious! It doesn't look to me that it needs side foods.
Mrs Catford made this today, yum yum good video and easy to follow recipe as always 😻
Pie chips & peas Cheryl. What's not to like? Had to chuckle when your pastry resembled a country! Mine does the same! When it looks like the UK that's when I get worried! Lol xx

Cheryl, will give it a go, got lamb
mince will try the full pie, as in short crust too. Thanks Cheryl.

Fantastic pie. I will try this with turkey mince. Thanks,
Oh wow. It looks even more yummy in the video than the photos on instagram. I've got to get the ingredients soon and bake one.
Hi. Something you might try out. My mum's pastry was superb - she always used 50/50 butter & Cookeen.
My Belgian grandmother did that too. Excellent result. Thanks for reminding me.
Stir with a knife you stir up strife! That’s what my Grandma used to say :)
Use a fork to make the pastry, it gives a better distribution of the ingredients and makes a much lighter and handlable pastry.
Pie looks fantastic. Definitely going to try making this. Thanks Cheryl for taking the time to show us the recipe xx

What do you do with your extra pastry? Pie crust cookies, or mini pies?
Hi Lisa :) I normally use leftover pastry for things like pasty twists or cheese twists x
@@WhatsForTea ooooooh! Do you use any special recipe?

Cheryl, have you ever tried using a suet pastry to top your pies or even use it with your fillings to make a steamed suet pudding. It makes an easy case to fill with mince, steak , or chicken pieces.
