Yes I see it now. We have traffic lights on that junction now, turn left Manor Hospital, straight on, Rolling Mill Street... Fascinating !!! Blimey how that whole area has changed since the 1930's. Thanks for that. :-)

Did you see the Horse and Carts lined up top end of Prince St at 1:23 ?? waiting to go into the Gas works. Yes things have certainly changed and not for the better in my opinion. Generally and overall Pleck was a very nice place back in the 70's... Thanks for watching.

Thats ok thanks for showing interest in your local area. Yes many things change over the years, at the time we don't think much of it, but a few years further down the road and all becomes more clear, but its usually too late by then... Once buildings have gone they have gone forever.... No going back !

I have no idea what tune you had to play, but I do have vague memories of you with the Glockenspiel and having some practise with it, Im sure I ended up with a triangle at some stage, maybe that was another play in another year, my memory banks are fuzzy now... :-)
Funny eh what stays put in your memory after so many years...

if you look carefully, the top left hand is the BOAK saddleworks in bridgeman st. The junction in the centre is the pleck road, left towards the manor hospital, and right towards bescot. The road coming towards you is alumwell road. The pub on the junction is the forge.

Tell me about it, makes me feel quite sad whenever I walk through these areas, knowing how it all once was not so many years ago.

Ahhh yes, back in the old days when Walsall was a town to live in and be proud of. Not anymore. Good lord, what a comparison to today. Filthy, dirty Caldmore, Palfrey, Pleck and the Birchills. Full of unsavoury characters of the non-English kind - you know what I mean. These areas are to be the top of your list to avoid should you have the misfortune of setting foot into this dilapidated, run-down town, just north of Birmingham (also a no-no). For health, well-being, safety and security I advise anyone to stay clear of Walsall. Thank me later...

@miketravis I began Palfrey Infants in 1966 moved across to the Juniors in 1968 and finally left in 1972 I know the faces you mentioned, loved Graingers model shop, especially gazing through the shop window at the model train set. Im 49 so you would be slightly ahead of me at Palfrey. I too lived in Palfrey back then near the Bradford. :-)

Thanks; a superb set of images. At 1.50 I noted a postbox with a small stamp dispenser attached to it. It looks identical to one I knw in Stafford, and which still exists. The sum to operate it... just 5p for two stamps, 2p and 3p.
