Being a native of Cleveland, I thank you for this video. That said, this year marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Detroit-Superior (Veterans Memorial) Bridge. And the 90-degree curve at Ohio 2, some of us from C-town refer to it as "Dead Man's Curve," because there were numerous fatalities in it.
Nice video! I remember being in Cleveland since I was born but now I moved to Houston! I'm doing the same music when I'm doing I-94/I-90 Dan Ryan Expressway & John F. Kennedy Expressway! I subscribed your channel by the way!
Nostalgia! Moved to Atlanta around 15 years ago but was born in Ashtabula and raised in Cleveland until middle school. This video brings back a lot of memories, thanks Jim!
This is going straight to the favorites! I driven I-480 before, but only the section *EAST* of I-77. That's a VERY nice looking freeway, and more interesting than the section I saw. Really liked the routing you chose from beginning to end; nice views of downtown from not 1 but 2 different freeways. That was a nice touch to slow down the footage for that huge smokestack; I don't recall seeing that in person, but it would have grabbed my attention as well. Loved the song choice, too.
Awesome.... I know these roads well as I have spent many a time on them as a passenger as I don't drive. Wow, I LOVE your vids man! I've been on those roads so many times in my 35 years of life... and it's always nice to see Cleveland! Cleveland ROCKS! Awesome vids, FreewayJim!
Great video, Jim. I recently thought about using "Groove Line" for a future video of my own. Now I gotta get busy watching the rest of the FWJ Cleveland series. FWJ ROCKS CLEVELAND!!! :)
Hey Thx for the post!!!! And the music is perfect!! The last time I drove through the area was in in1978! Now- have just taken an early retirement and am going to do some post-retirement work as an over-the -road truck driver! Will hit u up when I come through Cleveland. One thing.... one poster mentions it looks a bit like LA of the past. Very different cities-but there is a vague resemblance.
Jim , the start of this drive is exactly my first drive when I landed first time in the US in 1990. I landed at Cleveland airport where you start the drive, rent a car, and at middle of the video I turned to I77 towards AKRON where I stayed 1 week at Goodyear Tires. Souvenirs. Was a strange feeling - a car not very stable on the road compared to European cars with which I did not drive very fast for this first drive. At that time speed limit was still 55 in all US.
Great video Jim! My only complaint is hat there is no reference to the exits as you travel! However, great choice of using "The Groove Line" for the music.
Interesting that your music dated from 1978. That was when we first moved up here from Miami Beach, FL. We didn't have a car for several years and every time I heard about dead man's curve it scared the crap out of me. It wasn't until the 90s when I was driving again that I finally drove on it and discovered it wasn't that big a deal as long as you didn't try speeding around it like some sort of grounded Kamikaze pilot.
@FreewayBrent Thanks Brent, glad you liked it. The camera did not do that smokestack flame justice, it was pretty darn impressive to see while driving.
As I live in the Cleveland area and been on 77 countless times, I can tell you that when you got on there from 480, it's mile marker 156, not 153. Video was awesome though, can't wait to see where you drove through Cleveland.
LMAO! I love when your coming up doing 75mph and some a-hole is behind a semi going 55mph but right before your about to pass with no cars behind you they change lanes right in front of you because they decided to go 56 mph instead and then you have to wait for them to pass 5 semi's for 5 miles.
@lbell1999 Thank you! As for the exits, I used to mark EVERY exit a while back and I found it from a production perspective to kind of junk up the video so I only point out the important ones.
@roswellatup I'm just weird, I like old industrial architecture, it has character. Living in the south, everything is pretty much new, which is nice but I guess I appreciate some of the older cities because I rarely see things like that.
Maybe, it's not a big attraction for me but if I'm there with time to spare and all my gear, yeah I might film something. Charlotte really doesn't move my meter as far as freeways.
Seems like some tractor trailer drivers speed up when they see someone trying to pass them in the left lane. I'm sure that SUV driver didnt like being there any more than you liked being behind him.
HAY JIM YOU NEED TO COME BACK TO CLEVELAND OHIO THE JUST GOT WITH I-90 EASTBOUND BRIDGE NOW TEARING DOWN THE OLD BRIDGE TO PUT UP THE WEST BOUND SPAN THE BRIDGE THERE REPLACES IS WEST OF 77 ACROSS THE FLATS
lol I guess I was too harsh. The most annoying thing were those dumb squeaking sounds at 4:18 that kept repeating throughout the song. Other than that I guess it fit in Cleveland's rock n roll theme perfectly.
Cleveland looks old, and maybe it is nowhere near Los Angeles. But Los Angeles was never that big city way back when. Believe it or not Los Angeles was a Growing City in the 1960's and before, and in some ways Cleveland does remind me of Old Los Angeles, without Olvera Street and "El Pueblo". Yes it is crazy, but I can see it.

Great music, interesting facts, funny commentaries! Really enjoying your channel!

You really should not put your address out there like that.
Freewayjim I know.
Nostalgia! Moved to Atlanta around 15 years ago but was born in Ashtabula and raised in Cleveland until middle school. This video brings back a lot of memories, thanks Jim!
Cool, thanks!

Awesome! Been to Cleveland and have been on the 480 and the 77.
@0marigolds Thanks, glad you rode along :) Love this and "Boogie Nights", from Heatwave, two of the greatest funk/disco tunes ever!
Great music, and great video. I'm from the area and know this route pretty well....
Awesome! You drove right by my childhood home on 480 @ 1:38. Too bad the truck was in the way.
The video that started my tradition of playing The Grooveline everytime i cross the Ohio River into Ohio.
Nice!
Great video Jim! My only complaint is hat there is no reference to the exits as you travel! However, great choice of using "The Groove Line" for the music.
@aliesander Cool memory! thanks for sharing that.

@FreewayBrent Thanks Brent, glad you liked it. The camera did not do that smokestack flame justice, it was pretty darn impressive to see while driving.
Thank you, now I can say that I'm not the only one that can see it.
@fennisdembo1 Here in Atlanta, I-285 and everything inside it is 55MPH, Some interstates outside of it are 65 MPH.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
@Trionixxx Glad you enjoyed it! hope like the next two from Cleveland.
Great job as usual!
As I live in the Cleveland area and been on 77 countless times, I can tell you that when you got on there from 480, it's mile marker 156, not 153. Video was awesome though, can't wait to see where you drove through Cleveland.
Thank you very much, I appreciate that!
I miss my old town.
Great video.
wow cleveland is ROCKING so much
@pk33617 Thanks, I did not know that about that stretch of I-480.
LMAO! I love when your coming up doing 75mph and some a-hole is behind a semi going 55mph but right before your about to pass with no cars behind you they change lanes right in front of you because they decided to go 56 mph instead and then you have to wait for them to pass 5 semi's for 5 miles.
Yeah it's wonderful.
@cjs121675 Thank you much! glad you enjoyed the ride.
You are right! It does look a bit like L.A. back in the day! Coming N. from the Orange county area into Long Beach. I see it.
Can't please everyone...the song worked as far as matching the tempo of the ride.
@Trionixxx I have one more Cleveland night video coming.
Flaming smokestacks and Heatwave!
What more could one ask for?
@Trionixxx Pittsburgh, Wheeling, WV, Charleston, WV and the West Va Turnpike.
Thanks for watching!
i love groove line !!!
Cleveland 💖
the Brace way (I-480/I-271 is one hell of a road
@georgiaroadgeek Thanks, glad you liked it!
@lbell1999 Thank you! As for the exits, I used to mark EVERY exit a while back and I found it from a production perspective to kind of junk up the video so I only point out the important ones.
hey can you check out patrice rushen - remind me. i think that song would fit into one of your videos
@segerrocks I used Seger on the I-696 video.
@roswellatup I'm just weird, I like old industrial architecture, it has character. Living in the south, everything is pretty much new, which is nice but I guess I appreciate some of the older cities because I rarely see things like that.
Why in the beginning do they use their blinkers for so long? 1:36 - 1:44
I lived here for a long time.
@bsdpowa Thank you much!
Just asking..Which cities are next??
Hey FWJ:
When the Express Lanes are completed through Charlotte, are you going to be revisiting I-77 / I-85 / other Charlotte-area highways?
Maybe, it's not a big attraction for me but if I'm there with time to spare and all my gear, yeah I might film something. Charlotte really doesn't move my meter as far as freeways.
@quantommekanic LOL Thank you! I like to think I'm pretty good at matching the right music for the footage.
I think i just saw lebron!!! sike lol.. GREAT VID MAN!
@DrClaw77 Thank you!
@eluko79 Thanks, the camera really didn't do it justice, it was quite a sight.
@broadhurst04 The driver in the SUV was going less than the speed limit.
Thats my city!!!!
@fennisdembo1 Thank you! if you want speed, go to Michigan, 70 MPH on suburban freeways!
@DeaconG1959 Thanks, much appreciated.
real nice
I saw that one. Guess I'm just a real seger freak. The more I hear the more I want to hear.
I checked out the song you suggested, that's just not something I would use in a video like this but thanks anyway.
@sokalove42 Pittsburgh, Wheeling, WV, Charleston, WV and the West Va Turnpike.
@PHILLYCHEESESTEAK26 Not sure what possessed me to type Mile 153 there, the map next to me says 156, stuff happens!
@saintsouleyman Thank you!
@roswellatup Thanks! I've seen worse, did not think Cleveland was bad at all, I found it quite interesting in fact.
@pk33617 Thanks, much appreciated.
@Thoughtfulguy68 Thanks!
@fennisdembo1 And wouldn't it be nice to hear some SEGER when on Detroit road trips? I think so.
@PHILLYCHEESESTEAK26 Thanks!
Seems like some tractor trailer drivers speed up when they see someone trying to pass them in the left lane. I'm sure that SUV driver didnt like being there any more than you liked being behind him.
Just like I was between 3 trucks in Cleveland Ohio
I-480 ALSO SO KNOW AS THE OUTER LOOP YOU DON'T WANT TO DRIVE THIS IN RUSH HOUR
I live near there and I-480 in rush hour is terrible.\
-GremlinboyFH
COMMENTING IN CAPS LIKE THIS IS PRETTY BAD INTERNETQUETTE, IF YOU GET WHAT I'M SAYING...
HAY JIM YOU NEED TO COME BACK TO CLEVELAND OHIO THE JUST GOT WITH I-90 EASTBOUND BRIDGE NOW TEARING DOWN THE OLD BRIDGE TO PUT UP THE WEST BOUND SPAN
THE BRIDGE THERE REPLACES IS WEST OF 77 ACROSS THE FLATS
01:39 this guy means business...
@Bryant5493 You bet, thanks :)
Joy! it's just a hobby, a very expensive and time consuming one :)
is this a job or do you just do this for joy?
lol I guess I was too harsh. The most annoying thing were those dumb squeaking sounds at 4:18 that kept repeating throughout the song. Other than that I guess it fit in Cleveland's rock n roll theme perfectly.
Call me crazy, but when I see Cleveland, I see Los Angeles in the 1960's.
Speedway 480... No need to watch for cops for most of that stretch ;)
Fun fact the state troopers pull u over for doing 5 above
No offense but that is crazy, not even a close comparison
It's better to drive at night in any country
correction 1:48.
About 1:53 - Welcome to Ohio! Haha
Good video but the song is annoying.
