Thanks for posting this! After a very tiring day, this video really put me in a chill mood, with the music to accompany the sights in this video. Especially loved seeing the bridges all lit up. Sorry it took me over a year to watch this, but I picked a good time to finally get around to seeing this..putting this on the favorites list.
@trexlergreen Thank you very much! Pittsburgh is someplace you should try to visit if you have the chance, it is the most unique and interesting place I've ever seen.
I just spend the last couple of nights in Pittsburgh and think it's one of this country's hidden gems....it's such a beautiful city! I really need to check out the rest of your videos!...I am so impressed by this video...it's awesome!
FreewayJim...great video! Loved your shots of Downtown Pittsburgh and that musical bridge toward the end of the video as you really speed up the action! Congratulations on 300 videos! As always, you did a super job!
You always seem to manage to get lazy nights when you're in cities. Refreshing. And I also like how you hit the deep tracks that mainstream radio ignores by saying that BTO is more than just "Takin' Care of Business," and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet." Those songs are overplayed to death and they now remind me of an Office Depot commercial. Oy! But you...totally rock!
Wow - this was fun. I don't think I'll ever get to Pittsburgh, but now at least I got a great ride through it - Thanks - was awesome! Number 300 wow - congratulations! Sharing with friends, and will send it to Germany where my family lives. My grand children have never been here in the US. I bet they will love your videos!
Near Pittsburgh there are some pretty nice resorts such as Nemacolin. In the Laurel Highlands you can go white water rafting in the summer and skiing in the winter. Pittsburgh also has some of the best golf courses in the country. Lots of Jazz clubs and other genres, good restaurants, and pretty friendly people.
Thanks! I love Pittsburgh, one of my favorite places to visit so I hope to come back and film more, especially now that I have a new, much better camera, I need to re-shoot everything. Glad you liked the song too.
@aquantomeffect Interesting. I've been visiting Pittsburgh since 2001 and never felt uncomfortable tooling around downtown at night. I usually stay at Station Square and more than once I've walked on and across the Smithfield Street Bridge at night taking photos and toting a tripod and camera gear, never once felt uncomfortable. Yes, during the day, downtown is husting & bustling, seems to be very vibrant.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 With regards to 5:44, I shot that from up on the mountain and I'm kicking myself for not using my DSLR to record the video there, it would have looked MUCH better.
Pittsburgh has been my adopted home town for the past 20 years. At night I swear it looks like Gotham City with all the bridges and industrial era architecture.
@Corello1249 Yes, I shot that from up on Mt. washington which overlooks the city to the west....just after that clip as the road goes to the tunnel you can see the string of lights up on the mountain.
Boy! I get dizzy ridin' that fast. It really gave the sensation of riding along with you. I wanted to hold on to my computer table or something. Great video of my beautiful hometown.
@lakebay972 Thanks, I appreciate that... and I TOTALLY agree with you on BTO, not a big fan of either of those overplayed songs. I try to find lazy nights, heavy downtown traffic does not make for good videos. This video was four years in the making, when I first started doing these I always thought "Blue Collar" would fit Pittsburgh well at night, I just had to get the right footage.
Yeah!!! You're in MY hometown now! I live in San Diego but, I'm excited to watch this video! So very nice!! I saw the comment about Chicago's city... I think Pittsburgh is gorgeous at night! Thank you for doing these videos!
I'll say this, as much as I like the city, it is a pain in the you know what to get around, the roads are antiquated. I may just like it because I live in Atlanta and it is so different from what I am used to.
That's an understatement. Went there last summer and it's the only city I've ever seen that it takes 30 minutes to get to somewhere that is less than two miles away. Thank God we stayed literally next door to PNC Park.
Grew up in and around NYC. Believe it or not, I find Pittsburgh harder to navigate through! lol Thank God for GPS. LOVE the city though. It really is a very cool place.
That happened a few years before my dad introduced me to baseball. But, I do remember the 1970 series when the Bucs beat Baltimore and their 4 twenty game winners after beating the Giants for the pennant. They hadn't beaten the Giants at all in SF that year. I went downtown with my friend's family and celebrated. We just hung out and watched the sights. It was a great day.
3:27 those bridges make pittsburgh feel like a futuristic industrial city (with low to moderate not always noticeable pollution, but no heavy pollution) while at the same time using the suburbs to retain that modern times charm.
@lakebay972 I just prefer to film in lighter traffic, I think it translates better, you get more flow, heck I'd be the only one on the road if I had my way. I tend to judge city populations by the Metro Area Population, Pittsburgh is 2.35 Million, all the other cities you mentioned are double that or more (Metro), Pittsburgh has a smaller downtown area land wise than those other cities...comparing metro areas is more an apples to apples comparison as opposed to "city" populations IMO.
Born and raised there. Moved away 40 years ago. They've renamed all the streets and all the bridges. Tore everything down and rebuilt. The city I remember is barely recognizable now.
@Freewayjim Not saying that I disagree with you; but FreewayBrent has an excellent video called "Vancouver at Night" which features heavy downtown traffic and the flashing green lights that tell drivers to look out for pedestrians. But, on the contrary, Pittsburgh is only a city of 300,000 people while Vancouver is twice that; and cities like Detroit, Chicago, Dallas and Philadelphia are over a million. Your Philadelphia "high traffic" videos are great, especially the one with the TSOP song.
No, the work involved in doing that is more than I care to undertake. Plus only 5-6 videos would fit on a DVD. I find the videos in real time speed to very, very boring, these are not too fast. If I played them slower they'd be way to long, you can only hold a persons attention for song. Roadwaywiz here on YT may be more your speed.
My 7100 subs and 4.5 million views must think so. The whole process is not as easy as you think, but no use arguing with furniture, I don't have to impress you. Seriously, I have no problem with you not liking the video, they are not for everyone, and I can't possibly please everyone but why would you go out of your way to piss on my work with your snide comments? Keep it to yourself.
Yo' Freeway Jim, dug it, & the song !!! BTO other than takin' care of business, and down the highway !!! would love to see more, strip district maybe ?? my parents were born & raised in Brookline. thanx !!
Hello Freeway Jim =) is there any chance that I could buy a DVD with your vids in real time? I live in Sweden though but now with PayPal it shouldn't be a problem with payment atleast. PS. Love your vids even though they are slightly to fast for me. And I also love American roads, to drive these roads in your vids would be my biggest dream come true =) peace from Sweden dude
1:55 O_o whoever layed out this city used optical illusions to make this city look so big ._. the way you turn and suddenly see more buildings only to but a cherry on top with the bridge
Great video! At 0:14 what is the area under the highway lit by bright white lights? I have tried Google and Google Maps, but I can't figure out what is under there on my own. I think the highway is the Penn Lincoln Parkway, I-376. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Jim, Nobody knows Pittsburgh better than I do. Why? Because I drove a Yellow Cab at night in Pittsburgh. I knew where all the places were. For that reason I can tell you that Pittsburgh today is NOT the Pittsburgh of the 1970's. It was wild back then and Mayor Murphy sanitized it and stripped away all of it's character of the past. All the good clubs, bars, and restaurants are gone now. Long gone ......

Thank you very much!
Thank you!
Thank you, I enjoyed putting this one together.
@0marigolds Thank you and thanks for your support and encouragement over the years :)

Such a beautiful city wow, thanx for the upload Jim! I really enjoy watching your vids bro.
Freewayjim, Nice to find you in Pittsburgh again. Really enjoyed the down town tour. No other city like it in the world!
You always seem to manage to get lazy nights when you're in cities. Refreshing. @BoyKupaI Thanks, I use a Sony HDR-HC9 Camcorder, all of my equipment is listed in the closing credits.
@ScenicRoadTrip Thank you and I agree, it is definitely a hidden gem!
Oh, I don't know it that well, just the highways. From the looks of it there aren't many good ways to avoid that tunnel.
Pittsburgh has been my adopted home town for the past 20 years. At night I swear it looks like Gotham City with all the bridges and industrial era architecture.
Actually it is. The filmed the Batman movie here.
is it safe?
Thanks for the hours of entertainment. Congats on 300.
Me too, I really enjoy being there.
Much appreciated!
Holy lightning at 2:58! Congrats on the 300th video and keep up the good work!
@Trionixxx Thanks, glad you liked it!
@Ronson2k9 Thank you, I had that song in mind for this for years, I finally got to shoot the right footage.
3:40 WOW that's a beautiful sky!!!!
@Corello1249 Yes, I shot that from up on Mt. washington which overlooks the city to the west....just after that clip as the road goes to the tunnel you can see the string of lights up on the mountain.
Yes, I can see that. You really show off many of its fine points. Keep up the good work!
Wow, 300 videos, here's to the next 300 more, keep up the good work Jim
Boy! I get dizzy ridin' that fast. It really gave the sensation of riding along with you. I wanted to hold on to my computer table or something. Great video of my beautiful hometown.
Grew up in West Mifflin , near Kennywood. Live in Missouri. Miss the "Burgh". GREAT song too.

Awesome Job.. Looks great. Music was perfect..

I left pittsburg 5 years ago ( i went to ECS) and am moving back in 1 month!
Yes I do! I have every large Rand McNally Road Atlas from 1956 to 2013.
Happy 300th video!!!
Night view too good and nice background music
Thank you!

Thanks Jim! wonderful

Awesome video. Gorgeous sky and the camera even picked up some lightning @ 2:58.

Cool and chillin, jazzy song! Love it! :)
I hadn't noticed the lightning at 2:58 until someone pointed it out. That was pretty cool!
@bsdpowa Thank you!
You can't go wrong. It's a great city with a rich history.
@Reiser86 Thank you!
Really beautiful
Thank you!
@uptownbronze Thanks UB!
Beautiful. I want to move here.

I did not know the late Roberto Clemente had a bridge in Pittsburgh named in his memory.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Thanks, it was a bear to put together.

@DjFreemode Thank you!
@pt640 Thanks!
@wipandco Thanks!
@osterman9439 Another one from the Pittsburgh area, focused on a particular bridge, coming Thursday night.
Love your videos, love USA, from Spain :)
This is so untrue. Nobody in Pittsburgh is afraid to go downtown. Downtown is probably the safest area of the whole city, besides the suburbs.
@dave11686 Thank you!
Go STEELERS! Pittsburgh is where i grew up but i live in Florida nw but i love th city nd th people.
Thanks btw.
This is true. People are more afraid of the traffic heading into downtown than downtown itself.
Our city is really not all that difficult.. our buses are easy accessible to whatever part of the city you want to go. Bues running from downtown.
@expresswayjess Thank you for watching!
@VaFreeways Thanks, a little luck never hurts.
@2004JETTA Let's hope so, thanks!
Cool vid!

Pittsburgh makes me depressed :(
AK Golden if Pittsburgh makes you depressed try living in Cleveland that place really sucks
Ralph Johnson I live in Cleveland and it does suck. Pittsburgh is so much better
It’s a beautiful city overall imo but it’s so small and the weather is shitty most of the time
@colinstu Thanks, got lucky there!
@1xoirc Thanks
I bet. I think I would be so happy here.
Yo' Freeway Jim, dug it, & the song !!! BTO other than takin' care of business, and down the highway !!! would love to see more, strip district maybe ?? my parents were born & raised in Brookline. thanx !!
Nice video of this city at night.
I love road trips!! I even have a 2013 edition road atlas of my own! Do you have a road atlas?
I walk around fine at night I stay out till about 2 AM when I am up there and always walk back to my hotel
great one
masterpiece, than the others
Did you shoot that clip of the interchange at 5:43? Where is it from?

Hi Buddy. I-376 east bound toward Monroeville is above what is the Mon Parking Wharf, which would be the lit area you mention.

Will do, Freeway Jim. Thanx
