I've known this drive for long time,,and since child,,,you captured it how it only should be done,,,the right way,,,,it shows old ancient Cleveland just right
Outstanding tour! Great shots, wonderful soundtrack. I worked in the Warehouse District and enjoyed the Flats establishments in the ‘80s. Yeah it’s changed, but I’m happy the industrial character is still there. Thanks for the video!
Best drive around Cleveland vid yet. The areas you were in and the music to fit shows Cleveland raw. Moved from CLE to NYC but will alway have heart there. Thanx for the well put together vid.
I have been watching several of your videos which allows me to travel to some parts of the U.S. where I haven't been yet. Your annotations are very interesting and the choice of music is always spot on. Very well done, keep up the good work. Cheers.
Note at 1:12 is the infamous dead mans curve. At 2:44, to the right is the Harbor Inn, Clevelands oldest bar. At 4:20 the middle tower is the West Side Market, today was its 100th birthday. At 6:20 you will see one of my worst nightmares...the red swinging bridge closed! ..also at 8:54 if you had went left. You would of actually seen the east bank of the flats...loved the video!
I LOVE CLEVELAND. It's so chill and can be literally chill at times. However, the people are just really down to earth and LOVE their sports teams no matter how bad they are doing.
Uprated. Well done! I was born here in '57. My parents remembered a vibrant city, but it was always a place sliding into oblivion for me. Couldn't stand the weather, had to leave the Rust Belt by the late '70s. (Now in France via NYC.) Oddly, Cleveland is part of my personality. I love music and many foods! I recognized a lot of the buildings and places in this clip, which has a good choice of music.
Thank you Jim, and I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas, and I want to wish you and your loved ones a very Blessed coming New Year! Looking forward to see more of your work in 2018!!
Nice video! Things really haven't changed all that much in 11 years. Too bad the Center Street Swing Bridge was closed @6:20. I like to sit near the "Gazebo" on the other side and watch it open and close for the big ships.
Really enjoyed watching this. I remember driving over a couple of the bridges featured in this video; thought the architectural designs were outstanding. It's too bad the Flats have deteriorated, after being considered a real success story in the early 90's. Cool song choice too. Thumbs up for sure.
Love seeing my hometown in all its glory. Have you heard about the replacement bridges for the Innerbelt? The double-spanned George V. Vonovich bridges?
Thanks for the video; it's very nice. I haven't been in that area for years because I moved for a while, but I'm back. Can't stay away from either the food or the diversity of Cleveland.
I love this vid- no matter how many times given I've spent a lot ofI time in downtown Cleveland for Indians, Browns and Cavs games- or just to get away form the craphole of Kent, OH. Cleveland has a lot of unique bridges. The Carnegie bridge is also famous for it's cameo in Major League. I have spent a lot of time on these roads and I should add the I-90 bridge is being replaced within a few years. They're replacing the bridge and from what I've seen of the designs, it looks sweet.
Just over the Lorain Ave. Bridge with the 'Guardians', at marker 4:26 on the intersection of Lorain Ave and W. 25th sit's the famous West Side Market not highlighted in the video. It is the light brick building with the archway facade and tower to the right. Aqua green trim and stone detail.
you need to do a update jim with the new I-90 bridge done the flats is going under a coplete rebuild with the Ohio & Erie canal towpath park and most of the river briges are being rebuilt
I'm originally from Cleveland and had one very pleasant visit to Florida. I was just amazed how clearly the roads and highways were marked! I had no trouble getting around in a rental car. I live in Saint-Denis outside Paris, France now, and roads go back to the Dark Ages and are not marked at all -- people seem to have the knowledge in their DNA or something. It can be super frustrating, so I work on the side as a private guide!
Thanks for the upload! I never realized how many bridges Cleveland has! OH-2 reminds me of autoroute 720 in Montreal which has the same type of approach into the downtown area. It must be a common theme in the Great Lakes/Northeast like Toronto, Detroit and Chicago all with that grid system. My city of Buffalo as the be one of the only few Great Lake cities to have a defined beltway. Any chance of coming to Buffalo in the near future?
So how did it ever get the name "The Mistake By The Lake" I visited the Flats a couple times during it's peak. One Sunday morning I saw a giant Lake Freighter back in and parallel park to unload.
Most of the industry left from about 1960 on. Wth them went the jobs, the people, and the tax base. The population has fallen from 915,000 in 1950 to about 388,000 today. The city in terms of places want to go and live consists of downtown and some scattered neighborhoods on the west side. The rate of poverty is almost 35%, 27% of the population is single mothers with kids, and 77% of Cleveland babies are born out of wedlock. It's a city with an infrastructure for a million while the actual population is less than half that number. Combine all that with what's arguably the most execrable climate of any major city in America and things don't improve. As one example, there's only 25% of the possible sunshine in December while 14.1 inches of snow is falling on you, and a lot more if you live in the snowbelt. Cleveland is my hometown, but I left in 1967 because I could see where the city was headed. I get sad every time I go back and see what's happened to my beloved Cleveland.
Sar Jim got to tell you, I'm from Cleveland and love it even though I have moved, there are lots of run down and seedy areas, I would love to see CLE make more of a comeback
"Mistake by the Lake" is a quote from Bruce Keidan, a Pittsburgh sports writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from way back in the 1970's when the Browns/Steelers games meant so much.
weather channel music wow that is nice (btw i remember the intro of the song and carpared it to one of the weather channels intro themes {in my head lol}) but for some crazy reason i can remember 2 of the addresses that ive moved to over the first 8 years of my life and they are a 6 hr drive from each other lol & im 18
@pk33617 Thanks, there were a few guys working on the swing bridge on the west side of the flats, too bad I would have liked to have filmed crossing it.
+freewayjim you should head back and do a couple of new Cleveland videos soon, they just finished Flats East Bank developments and downtown has lots more stuff since the RNC
@Freewayjim Yes, and I loved that video you did around the Liberty Bridge and Tunnel featuring "Union Man" by The Cate Brothers. Having it in HD would've been EPIC. Great video nonetheless.
@FinlaythePug Thanks for watching, I would like to film Buffalo someday but to be honest, it is well of the beaten path of places I usually go but hopefully I'll have the opportunity to get there with some time to film it properly at some point.
@TheChamba999 Because I purposely try to film them in that kind of setting, it makes for a better flowing video as opposed to being in a constant stop and go situation....think about it.
@Trashjack101 trust me they can get a little confusing even for cleveland natives like me we have overhead signs and signs on the side of the road and if you miss em then oh well other than those you have to know where your going
On April 19,,1787,,there was,,under this big bridge,,ai the east bank of river,,only a log cabin,,to store flour brought on horse back,,from Pittsburgh
I've known this drive for long time,,and since child,,,you captured it how it only should be done,,,the right way,,,,it shows old ancient Cleveland just right
Thank you very much, that means a lot to me because it was my first and so far, only time there.
Outstanding tour! Great shots, wonderful soundtrack. I worked in the Warehouse District and enjoyed the Flats establishments in the ‘80s. Yeah it’s changed, but I’m happy the industrial character is still there. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the comment and for watching!

Great video. Classy music. Excellent Jim and son!

That track fits the scenery perfectly brother!!
+XTRABIG Thank you!
Totally breath taking I hope to go there this year. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
beautiful bridges
Thanks for showing the history of this city
Greetings from Poland
Cool ride there (Jim), a lot of side streets, stop signs and turns! As always, you deliver an enjoyable video to watch!!
Thank you James and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thank you Jim, and I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas, and I want to wish you and your loved ones a very Blessed coming New Year! Looking forward to see more of your work in 2018!!

Great video. It's nice to get off the Interstate once in a while and see amazing things like these structures.
.. luv the architecture / engineering in those bridges..great ride thanks Jim ..
I was just chillin' to those grooves, Jim. Another nice ride, if I may say so. :)
Awesome stuff, didn't get to see the Flats though when I visited Cleveland.
I mean...this song,,meant these images of downtown old ancient Cleveland since I was 5....this good video for me
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Awsome video! I am a huge fan of Cleveland I love visiting Cleveland. This video shows Cleveland in a great way! thanks for posting
Nice video. Cleveland is sure an interesting city to drive around.
Thanks, it is.
Freewayjim So what cities or areas of the US are you going to tour for this year?
I don't know yet.
Love seeing my hometown in all its glory. Have you heard about the replacement bridges for the Innerbelt? The double-spanned George V. Vonovich bridges?
+GremlinboyFH Yes, hope to see them next time I'm in the area.
@FreewayBrent Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! There's so much more to explore there, I'll get back someday.
Thanks for the video; it's very nice. I haven't been in that area for years because I moved for a while, but I'm back. Can't stay away from either the food or the diversity of Cleveland.
Thank you for watching!
Really cool! My fav is that Veterans Bridge too!!
Nice video and a really nice shot of the West Side Market at the west end of the Lorain-Carnegie bridge.
Thank you!

Roaming the market and some of the cool restaurants in the W25th neighborhood is a relaxing way to spend a weekend afternoon.
you need to do a update jim with the new I-90 bridge done the flats is going under a coplete rebuild with the Ohio & Erie canal towpath park and most of the river briges are being rebuilt
what a beautifuul city is cleveland, I wish i´d ever visit the city .
At 6:35 straight ahead was a canal basin which is covered over in a parking lot and the bridge.
I'm originally from Cleveland and had one very pleasant visit to Florida. I was just amazed how clearly the roads and highways were marked! I had no trouble getting around in a rental car. I LOVE this version of Papa Was a Rolling Stone! As good as the original if not maybe even a little better!
Thanks, I thought it was an excellent cover of a classic song.
great job fellas..
Thank you!

Great video ,,, can I use some parts of this video for one f my listings? Thx
Thank you! yes you can, just be sure to give me credit for the footage.
Now those are some damn impressive bridges.
Where the flashing yellow turn signs?
+freewayjim you should head back and do a couple of new Cleveland videos soon, they just finished Flats East Bank developments and downtown has lots more stuff since the RNC
@deangmoxon Thank you, the video is sped up about 2x in this video, and usually 3-4x on freeways.
It was in Cleveland,,where I first undstood,,,pappa was a rolling stone,,,as a child,,,watching tv
Thanks for the ride!
As a German, it took me a while to realize the highway footage was sped up 🙈
where are you shooting next
@Freewayjim Yes, and I loved that video you did around the Liberty Bridge and Tunnel featuring "Union Man" by The Cate Brothers. Having it in HD would've been EPIC. Great video nonetheless.
@FinlaythePug Thanks for watching, I would like to film Buffalo someday but to be honest, it is well of the beaten path of places I usually go but hopefully I'll have the opportunity to get there with some time to film it properly at some point.
@eluko79 Thanks, they do indeed have nice collection of bridges.
@TheChamba999 Another reason is to avoid cars and trucks blocking the views along the way.
Jim you knowing these streets 😀
Not really, just luck and instinct :)
@KellyThundercloud Thanks, glad you liked it!
were you speeding thru those streets or was that just the camera ?
brilliant vid
@szmitz Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
@beepbeepme50 Not sure I'm familiar with what Dead Man's merge is, I know Dead Man's curve.
@TheChamba999 Because I purposely try to film them in that kind of setting, it makes for a better flowing video as opposed to being in a constant stop and go situation....think about it.
@YoshiLuigi45 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
@Trashjack101 trust me they can get a little confusing even for cleveland natives like me we have overhead signs and signs on the side of the road and if you miss em then oh well other than those you have to know where your going
Thank you!
How come most of your videos almost never have any traffic?
@Trionixxx Thank you!
@beepbeepme50 Just past the split where I have the signs for I-90 @ OH-2 early in this video, the 35MPH Curve.
@0marigolds Thanks! glad you "joyed" it :)
Thank you very much for the nice comment and for watching!
@InterstateKyle Thanks
