**Cries in software developer** 😭
I have once spent a whole week on a single bug ngl. It’s like, to fix that bug, I gotta fix this other bug and to fix it, I need to fix another one. it’s just bugsception.
Honestly I’m literally just learning to code, not even in the field yet. While making Minesweeper in Java, my worst bug took about a week and a half. The worst part was it was such a simple fix.
I spent a week or two trying to figure out how a bug could even be possible in my code, no one on my team could figure it out either haha.
Ended up being something pretty simple that none of us had thought of. I felt such relief when things finally made sense again haha
@@libertybridger As a programmer, I feel most bugs that drive us crazy turn out to be the simplest fixes. 😅
Normal hermits: to start this game put your items in the box and set your respawn
Etho: Just walk and I will make sure you have the perfect health and don't even have to turn around
This is why Bdubs and Etho playing on the same server is so good. Bdubs makes a silly little scaffolding game to try and drum up business at his shop, and that somehow leads to Etho making “Decked Out: Arcade Mode”.
now I want an Etho and Tango colab for Dect out 3
Pearl could be their student, there to study and having a bit of input ✨
I think it would be really funny if at the end of the game etho put a sign crediting bdubs for the inspiration
Lmao, that’s a perfect description of this game
I forgot that the scaffolding game was the reason why there's a frogger game in the server. I cantt haha

A welsh greeting for someone who’s shoe is untied! Tell ALL your friends!
Why does this exists?
Thinking maybe Etho heard of this word from someone made me giggle somehow.
The setup in this video runs the risk of people casually respawning into the game. You should have a publicly accessible bed near the exit. It may be better to somehow force people to set their spawn in an outside-the-game location, before exiting into the shop. Alternatively, you could make an emergency exit for people stuck respawning at the in-game bed.
This happened to skizz earlier in his stream. The exit was open as the game was not active so it was fine and etho knew hermits will likely do that so he was glad it got tested
@quinlar0807 Good info, thanks. Etho's too good. 🧠 Thought I caught him slippin' but he was already on top of it. What a guy.
It probably also needs an item divert incase you jump in and forget to set spawn.
@@quinlar0807 that's fine if the game's not running, but it'll mess up someone's run if someone else respawns while they're playing it.
You can have the game break the bed as it ends and have the player place it before allowing them move on.
(Edit: This won't work, the game only checks if the bed exists when they player dies. Breaking and replacing the bed will still have the player respawn in the same spot. You could just put another bed at the exit.)
One does not walk, but SPRINT ON ALL FOURS on a new Etho upload.

If you don't have the bell something is wrong with you xD
I appreciate Etho's dedication to idiot-proofing and QA testing his games. there's always so many failsafes to make sure that if someone doesn't read the rules or if they bring outside items in with them, the game will still function. There is no burden on the player to "play along" and follow the rules themselves or keep themselves honest, the game has hard boundaries that PREVENT you from breaking it even if you try.
If he made a nametagged zombie kill you at the bottom of each completed frog/gate, the death message could tell people which one they completed. That way you wouldn't just have a "fell from a high place" when you could say which color frog was completed.
At what point can we just call it 'Grian proofing' 😂😂 gottem!
Grian, Scar AND Skizz on the server means it better be impossible to break the game!
Nice of him to do QA testing on pearls wordle game too
@@LostEveryMarble nah grian's never really a huge problem when it comes to idiot proofing. He's his own can of worms, maybe call it 'hyperactive-proof', but he's good at following instructions
the duality of etho: on one hand an insane attention to detail and hermitproofing every aspect of the frogger game, on the other, failing at wordle despite cheating, and landing on 'abork'

This is so heartwarming 🥹 congrats on moving out!
Seeing you finally finish frogger after like 10 years of trying in both modded and vanilla Minecraft is fantastic!
For the roof of your house, you could replace every other purpur with a black block to make a chequerboard of black and purple, like the missing texture texture, thereby having a roof and 'not having' a roof (because it's without a texture) at the same time :)
Very clever…. Etho level clever 👏

I *love* that Etho explains all of the details and decisions he made with designing stuff like this. It's extremely rare these days and one of my favorite things to watch.
the shop absolutely needs frog plushies and frog hats for sale
wait maybe what's available in the shop could be dependent on the frog gates you managed to enter in game
Love this idea!
Or have the merch available chuck-e-cheese style, where you can buy it either for an absurd amount of diamonds, or for a ludicrous sum of game tokens
@@whorlingwisteria ooo having game token exclusive cosmetics would be fun
Wouldnt that need a permit tho?
Perhaps even some pet frogs!
I think you need to mention on a sign that the bed is behind you, down the hole, because I'm already imagining some Hermit (whose name begins with an "S" and ends with a "car") falling down, and dying before they see the bed.
I never knew Streetcar was a hermit!
And maybe add a Button of Shame™ to open the door for players who don't set their spawn on the bed or something.
Wow..my favourite hermit.... Spare parts of a car
@@RecreationalCynic Don't need a button for that, shame enough to walk all the way from their own bed back to the shop just to have to die again. I'd actually make them they pay to get back in and get their stuff. Like a stack of diamond blocks to get the emergency key that lets players in while it's technically occupied. Maybe with a big sign that says "the cost of failure".
This was exactly my thought, I had no idea where the bed was until etho floated down and showed it!
god etho, this is absolutely wild. I really appreciate how much you streamlined the entering, exiting, and playing of the game to make it as straight forward, fullproof, and preventative of bugs caused by human error as possible to prevent as much confusion as possible. It seems like a really small thing but thinking through everything like that and how to make the transition from regular gaming to playing the minigame honestly takes a lot of thought and a ton of understanding of both how the game (Minecraft that is) works and how its players think/process the information around them.
also I LOVE the raveger names
I love the noteblock music, loved what you did with them in S7. I understand that it's more work than uploading music on music disks. But I really appreciate it. Noteblocks have certain charm to them and it feels certain way to have music made in Minecraft while playing Minecraft.
The small detail of taking player's spawn direction into account makes me just so happy.
Etho: Makes Ravager Rush have multiple failsafes and extremely user friendly (facing the game upon respawn) to make sure nothing breaks in case of people not reading instructions
Also Etho: uhhh maybe I should've read the instructions to play Wordle...
Thanks for the awesome episode! Cant wait to see the hermits playing Ravager Rush
Utterly unsurprising to me that Etho is more familiar with Mastermind than Wordle
1. I love the signs on the various sections of your redstone, it's like comments on functions in code. Which is to say, it should help the rest of us at least *pretend* we will be able to look at the system and learn from it.
2. The -Frogger- Ravager Rush looks fun. Watching this video makes me want to try playing it myself. (I'm almost certainly going to be awful at it.)
3. Loved hearing you mention Mastermind. I used to play tons of that game on an old CD-ROM version of the game my Mom got from mailing in cereal box tops.
4. My family has a Minecraft Realm, and it's a way for us to connect even though we don't all live together anymore. It's pretty new, so this weekend I was gathering materials to build my proper house, and my youngest sister goes, "Oh, you're making an Etho build." I was confused because I had actually been inspired by something I saw in a Grian video once, but then I realized... I had only planned the INSIDE of my build, and was gathering materials to construct it, while ignoring the outside of the structure.
Just watched the explanation of all the new frogger features and had to pause to leave this comment. Etho, you are an incredible game designer. Not only does this look incredibly fun to play, all of the little quality of life features are a testament to your skill. Bravo.
Etho is living his dream, it may not be completely what he thought he will be doing as a kid but he gets the same results.
Yeah! It’s so good
You could prank Joel by inviting him to play and then renaming/swapping his tools to ones with Etho centered names.
Very cool build and exciting to see the game coming together.
That is sooo funny :D would love that :D
I love the death messages in the Frogger game!
And they would be even better if the ravagers had lowercase names so it says "slain by a broken spacebar" instead if "slain by A Broken Spacebar". That would just make these messages look like real sentences even more.
Hey Etho? Since the shop is selling frog lights, it might be good to lean into a more "wet" feeling for the interior. Something a little more aquatic like switching the stripped jungle logs for the normal jungle logs would add a nice green that could help with the theme :)
Also for filling up the space on the opposite side of the shop, you could make a mascot of a frog to help fill in that gap
I feel like this episode really showcases just who Etho is, and how great of a Minecrafter he is.

I think the potted plants do a lot for the shop and really make it look grand. Maybe it’s a little awkward to look around them, but worth having them in my opinion! Also would love to see some waterfalls from the ceiling to make the shop even more animated.
Also 47:20 - not sure if that was genuinely ethos dog or “abork”

Frogger was always frustrating, but this definitely makes it feel so much cooler.
Suggestion: You could sue Joel for some kind of identity theft/fraud for building those statues in people's bases and signing them with your name. You could bring out witnesses that can tell about how devastated they were when they found out that the statues were built by "just Joel" and not by you. You could even call judge Bdubs as witness😁

etho fist fighting a moose is now a canon event :D
Etho's private life is probably _The Long Dark_ ;)
a golden ray of light shoots down from the heavens and a new Etho upload graces its presence upon my computer monitor.
I LOVE that Frogger '97 music, especially the noteblock song. That game was actually my very first video game so I'm happy to see it get recognition.
If you can, maybe you can use the sherds with the diamond on them to better emphasize the payment system with pots. Just an idea.
I also think the small shrubs lining the walkway up to ravager rush look great as they are. In my mind the hermits will enter the shop specifically to participate in the game so the entrance should be the focus, and after they set a score they return to the lobby to relax and review other hermit's scores. That's the vibe I get at least.
It's amazing how complete the game experience is for something made in (mostly) vanilla Minecraft. The respawn mechanics and scoring system are really clever, plus there's a 7-segment scoreboard, and even multiple music settings! It's no wonder these videos are a rare treat with how much thought goes into all of this - but I hope you know we don't expect you to make these huge strides towards "the big project" every single episode. It would be great to include some clips of hermit interactions and goofing around for balance (for example I would love to see you play Iskall's Mission Possible for "easy" content!) even if that means making more modest progress towards completing "the big project" in an episode.
That's skipping all of the time he puts into discovering and finetuning the most peculiar block interactions in the game.
He always has some weird solution that practically no one knows about, yet is absolutely necessary to achieve his goal.
All these years watching you, I've seen you try to recreate frogger in minecraft like three or four times now, but this time I think you've actually just blown it out of the water. Somehow, after all these years, you still manage to impress me. You are an inspiration to me
Etho!! You should make the space on the left of your shop to show off your hard working employees! IE the froggies! And whichever frog light is the best selling , the frog who makes it gets employee of the month!!
39:45 "How do You tell it's an Etho build w/o saying it's an Etho build" ?
Very nice interior. (period)
my mind was blown when you considered "people forced to face the bed when respawning" and how you incorporated that into the game to make it easier for the players, and everything after that was just another layer to the explosions going on in my head. Etho, you are amazing
that was my exact thought! its also kinda neat since ethos always wanted to game develop, so it makes sense that he considers the playability from their POV
Guide to telling who's builds are whos:
Etho's builds: no roof
Grain's builds: no back
Cub's build: includings glazed terracotta
Bdub's build: just stunning
Pearl: includings purple
Bdubs: all the blocks
Iskall: no diorite?
Grain: no interior
Etho: no exterior
Mumbo: He builds now?
Scar: Massive yet detailed
Skizz: build itself looks neat but there are old pranks all over the lawn
Impulse: lowercase 'i' somewhere
Ren: contains lore
Doc: deepslate diamond ore for all redstone
stressmonster: pink
Tango: Visually stunning and interactive
For the empty space on the left maybe ask Cleo to make a bullfrog mascot for the shop. Love the use of the Cherry wood as trim
Lol I love how he has a ton of messages and mail and things to do, and he ignores it all for frogger lol the equivalent of sweeping everything under the bed xD
I love that Etho put so much time into the respawn system!
Making it so the hermits don't have to interact with chests to drop off their items & setting up the ravagers at the beginning button press is something you wanna do in game design to get the players to playing the game quicker.

RETURN OF THE KING 👑
i missed the "bye-bye" so much! i understand very little about redstone so a large part of this went over my head, but i did understand just how much time has gone into this particular build - i do hope you're proud of it, because not only is the game and shop interior beautiful, but the quality of life features you added are literally so impressive. i'm excited for the end of season world download so i can try this!
etho, you never fail to amaze us with your design and brilliant solutions to little problems. i especially like the engineering of the respawn cell!
Here’s a recommendation for the shop - the current leader of frogger gets a discount in the shop! For example, x diamonds off sales over x (total) diamonds. This will encourage hermits to both play the game and shop for frog lights!
The amount of thought this man put into every aspect of this game, including even which way you are facing when you respawn is amazing.
I love the shrubs Etho, I think you should keep them! they really help break up the semi-monotonous highscore wall design and give you that Luxury Von-Sway* feel
And anything they cover up from the player's view is unblocked by them just moving, which they'll probably do without really thinking about it.
I am terrible with words and that is really upsetting me right now because I really want to explain how much I actually love the shop build, all the retro art deco office building vibes it has makes my heart full every time I look at it!!!
My brain fried when etho entered "aeiou", im so used to it needing to be an acual word
Keep the trees in the shop, but thin out the middle. I love how you put so much effort and consideration into your builds. Keep up the great work. This upload absolutely made my day!
With an Etho upload, even 50 minutes never feels like enough. I can't wait until we see a bunch of hermits playing the game, it's gonna be fun with all the banter I'm sure!
42:34 ooh! something you could do instead of the little office (which is cute don't get me wrong) is have one side for purchasing froglights with diamonds, and the other side for redeeming game tokens for froglights! that would probably make the redstone easier too, since each system only has to filter for one type of currency
Etho, for the noteblock rendition of "Retro Zone," to make the "swoosh" sound at the beginning of the song, you could use the same wither bullet head on a noteblock that Rendog uses for his doors.
The other hermits prank etho by finishing his roof. Etho just builds a new building without a roof... it would be a shame if he gets pranked again...
I like the interior design of the shop. The idea of the middle section being higher than the sides, makes the room appear even bigger than it already is.
Designing the right side to look like the game is very appealing, too.
The bushes in the middle are a bit too much, but maybe only having 3 or 4 instead of 5 on each side would help.
The scoring system and display look very cool. Hopefully other hermits can copy it for there games in the gaming district.
The noteblocks songs are always such a big addition to your builds. I will always appreciate the extra work of adding them.
Hearing the reasoning behind the respawn mechanics set up is cool, there was a lot of things I wouldn’t have thought of. Little quality of life things like not having to turn around really shows your attention to detail!
Every Etho video is an absolute treat! The inside of the shop is looking great! I can’t wait to see all the Hermits competing in this!!!
I love all the little details and functionality that you’ve built into ravager rush. I’m sure it was a nightmare getting everything to work together, but the final product is amazing!
Let’s go!
And finally you have a roof!
Literally dropped everything to be here! Glad to see your back from MCCI (;
Can we just applaud this man built a game within a game idk how many games you can do this with amazing work sir
I just love the frogger project, and the music is perfect
i absolutely adore how grand the shop is and how it looks!!
one of the only things i would say is add the permit to the side with the office, it looks absolutely spectacular though!!
“ETHO UPLOAD” we all chant in unison
ETHO UPLOAD
"Etho we love you please take our firstborn children and all our money." We repeat to ourselves
3 things:
- what is the big red stone issue you mentioned at the beginning?
- you should build a big frog instead of a roof. Double win
- I think ravages rush should be renamed to something frog related
Hey Etho! Very happy to see you made this game, because I know it has a special meaning to you. I will definetly play a lot, and check all the redstone, when the world download become available.
About the game design, there's one thing that I spoted that maybe cause some trouble in the future. What happens if a hermit forgets to set their spawn elsewhere after playing the game and end up inside the game after a death? For that, I suggest making another bed/kill chamber that forces them to reset their spawn to exit the game.
Concern regarding the respawn system: You should probably have remind and place for hermits to set their spawn elsewhere after they exit the game since they may forget to set it elsewhere die and respawn inside the game unless you already accounted for that.
I just love how much love and care you put in the UX of your games, you definitely are a "fullstack redstoner".
This one's beautiful, fun, ergonomic, tested on all levels, and the video was super pleasant to watch too. Thanks for this :)
So satisfying
I think the bushes in the main hall are perfect! 43:08 - they match with the columns behind nicely and its a good color to go with the oxidized copper in the corners
All your safety measures are really cool. It's really nice to see how much care you have put into this game.
The way you exclusively build interiors never fails to make me laugh
Oh snappers! Hes back everybody!!
How to tell it’s an etho build: it has an intricate diamond deposit red stone system to open the 3x3 door instead of just putting a sign asking hermits to pay to play.
I love how much care you put into projects like this. Most people wouldn’t care about which direction people are facing and other small things like that
YES HES BACK
Congrats on the roof! It really ties the whole place together
ETHO! MY HEART NE@LY STOPPED HELP YOU SAID OH SNAPPERS IN THE FIRST SECOND AAAWAAND YOU BLESSED US WITH A MOVIE! my maple prince, we welcome you back
This shop has Bass Pro Shop Piramid vibes. This is a compliment.
He's really thought through balance and player experience with the respawn point.
I think he's been optimizing for his own testing experience, and had to turn the bed around for making the testing less annoying
@@lomiification You're probably right. This would make a great example of the level of polish that only a lot of developer playtesting can create.
Not if this will be seen but a bed should be added after the game is over that hermits are forced to reset spawn at. Otherwise if a hermits dies after the game is over without resetting spawn they will spawn in the game after it is done at an unintended time. Would really get messy if another hermits started a new run and you wind up with two hermits in the game.
Etho, I’m releasing my second game in 10 days and ‘walking to the horizon’ is the perfect summary. A day can go by just fixing 2 bugs and suddenly your month has turned into a week has turned into days. Yet somehow seeing someone else work through it is surprisingly relaxing.
the planters lining the main interior path help add to the feeling that the building is very grand, i think they’re worth keeping even if you have to look past them to see the scores. they’re personally one of my favourite parts of the build :)
also, i really like that you included a mini version of the game in order to get to the shop - it’s like a hint to the other hermits about what’s in store for them should they choose to play. lovely !!
