Just wanted to make note, just one year later here in March 2024. It looks like the OREI splitter you linked has apparently been updated recently based on Amazon reviews. Some of you may have luck getting an older versions that were sitting around distribution centers that deal with HDCP 1.3 stuff(or whatever the PS3 has). The reviews mention that it's the same exact model that they used to sell but updated inside no longer bypassing HDCP. Even the second bullet point for the item now states in parentheses,"(NOTE: Will Not BYPASS HDCP)" as they've been getting a lot of returns. Hopefully I'm incredibly wrong but I wanted to be a heads up just in case.
@@scottman_plays_youtube Ok, now i feel stupid, i watched video 3 times trying to work out which one LMAO Thanks, I Refuse to use amazon though.. I did end up working it out eventually just searching.
fyi instead of connecting the hdmi to the elgato to the monitor, you can connect it to the second hdmi on the splitter, which is helpful because you wont have black screens when u close obs or open obs.. the footage will still go through into the capture. it helps alot.. also u saved me some money aswell, i was gonna buy some audio capture, didnt know u can do that with the audio
Hey if any of y’all have a problem where the obs turns black every time you exit the game or start a game, try to set up a different cable orientation, like instead of using the capture card output use the hdmi splitter’s both outputs
Had an old 4 hdmi switch lying around and tried that out to see if it would bypass hdcp and it works great! Also am able to use my Logitech a50 x headset since that also works as an hdmi hub and the audio quality is amazing!
Nice guide! Just ordered the splitter to see whether it works. I am trying to link the PS3 via HDMI to a PC to run online translation on the screen text to make playing Japanese RPGs easier. Let's see how far I will get.
Doesn't work for me if I open up an Elgato Game Capture Software. I can play fine with this setup if I don't have a capture program open. I am using the HD60S like you have shown at 0:44 I get HDCP if I use 4K capture. I get no signal +HDCP if I use Game Capture HD.
Possible fix if you still have no image or the green HDCP lock on your screen. After getting everything setup, with your PS3 on and ready, unplug the HDMI from the splitter and then plug it back in. After an hour of working on it it's what worked for me
But why does the guy in the video not need to do that? I bought the exact same stuff as him, but mine comes on for less than a second showing the PS3 dashboard, then toggles between a black and grey screen for a few seconds before the elgato lights up red and the TV says no signal. I've spent over £400 trying to get this to work. I just want to stream my favourite game that they refuse to make backwards compatible 💀

So I was having the same issue but reverse as well BUT I manage to get it fixed. I have a Elgato 4K60 Pro & a Armor3 HD Spilitter. I was getting capturing the display in OBS no problem but wouldn't display on my monitor so I went into the PS3 display settings manual put it to 720p 1080p & it worked fine when I did it for the first time then I was messing around with some settings tried doing it again wouldn't work then I went into the 4K Capture Utility program( I think your elgato program is different but should still be the same) went into preferences left the HDMI Color Range to Bypass( Same as input) alone changed Input EDID MODE to Display & EDID (Intenernal) to deault & sometimes 1080p & it has been working fine hopefully that helps you out or gives you an idea where start. I was recently having problems where the feed wasn;t getting any signal but i unplugged & plugged back in my splitter & that seemed to work fine. Long story short i think it has to do something with the display settings on the PS3 & something to do with the Elgato program maybe as of right now things are looking fine on my end playing the God of War Collection.
does it matter if its V1.4 or V1.3? Been reading reviews on Amazon and there are many that says that it didn't work. I got the HD60 (basic) If it does, I'll just use component.
The hdmi splitter doesnt turn on when i have the ps3 hdmi into the splitter but it does turn on when i put it into elgato. Makes no sense. Even with that no ps3 appearing on my elgato software
Late here, but if you're still looking for a capture card then yes, just about any capture card should work, you don't have to get elgato, I use XR1 Lite and it's pretty good. Recommend it.

Hi There, I'm trying to just play Using OBS to capture my PS3, but everytime It turns on I have to reconfigure the size of the screen on OBS and if I switch games it just sticks to a black screen, I can fix it by shutting down obs and opening it again, but it's quite annoying, does anyone have a fix for this?
i tried this setup however it isn't working, most videos make it seem you just plug everything in correctly and it just works but i'm stuck on a black screen and have no idea what went wrong. the PS3 i have is a super slim so i think its possible that the HDCP protection for it is stronger than on the other versions of the PS3, what PS3 did you use for the video?
Same here, every video I've seen is just plug-n-play, but it doesn't work. I have bought 2 different splitters, and it has never worked for me. I used Elgato HD60+ and HD60X and still nothing. Every once in a while, I see a flash of my PS3 screen on OBS, but it goes back to black right away. My Switch works, PS4, PS5, Steam Deck, hell, even my Anbernic 353M works, except my PS3. 😢
I haven’t tested them but if you already have the old elgato cards you will still need the hdmi splitter. I’d get one and try with your capture card you have first. Good luck!
I have the original Elgato Game Capture HD and I’m doing everything right the way it told me how to do it with the A/V and it’s not working. Is this version outdated is that why it’s not working ?
Are you using a HDMI splitter as well? I haven’t been able to get it working otherwise. It’s a pain, recording a ps4 or ps5 works with out the HDMI splitter though. If you follow the routing image in the video it should work even with an older Elgato card. Let me know how you go
I've followed the exact instructions provided in your video, and am using the same exact HDMI splitter as the one featured. I managed to record both audio and video via OBS, but with one _major_ problem: the video's frame rate is virtually non-existent. It's basically just a slideshow. What could be causing this? Do I need to have a high-end capture device like Elgato for it to work properly? If it makes any difference, I've only tested it with one game so far: Doom Classic Complete. I will be testing it with the 2015 remaster of the original Resident Evil remake to see if it makes any difference.
do you have the original usb cable for the capture card? if not that may be the issue.. the best one to use is a 3.0 or higher usb c to usb a. i had to buy one because after i moved all i had was my 2 capture cards and no cables.. i found my phone charger and tried it, it worked but had the same issue that you stated.. most phone chargers are only 2.0 usb
Hey I’m trying this out after reading on reddit and multiple videos, I have the exact splitter you have, and a PS3 fat jailbroken console I want to stream and make videos on but in OBS and my monitor when I use this set up I get blank screens on monitor and OBS, but when I output to monitor from the splitter it only comes through my monitor. Is there anyway you can think to solve this issue? I am using an NZXT HD60 capture card and not elgato but the capture card works fine on Switch so mainly I was wondering if this splitter still works fine
Does the capture card needs to really be the Elgato one or other models can still work? Cause I'm not gonna spend $ 200 just to record PS3 games with something that can be found for very much less
This video exists to guide you through the process of doing exactly that; basically, you need to connect your PS3's HDMI cable to an HDMI splitter, which itself is connected to the video capture device. Once you have all the necessary supplies (3 HDMI cables, 1 USB 3.0 cable, HDMI splitter, capture card, and of course the main pieces of hardware: PS3, PC, TV), you should be able to get things working by following the step-by-step process outlined in the video's first half.
Thanks this video helped me out with what hardware I need to use for recording my ps3 gameplay. I've followed your instructions to the letter, I even have the hdmi splitter and the hd60s+ shown in the video. I just can't get my ps3 to display on either obs or on my tv using this configuration. The image from the ps3 will pop up on obs and my tv for a moment but then go to black. Every video I've seen on recording/streaming the ps3 seems as simple as plug and play. I've tested my ps3's hdmi port with multiple hdmi cords and it works fine, but when trying to use it on obs with this method I have the aforementioned issue. I know this video is old but if you have any tips I would be extremely grateful. I have the ps3 slim btw.
you can switch between inputs by having the PC connected via a different cable like DP. Maybe that's why mine isn't working though? He hearted your comment, but didn't dignify it with a reply, so who knows?
Okay so I can get my footage to come through on something like the Switch (this isn’t related to the PS3 just wanted to do a double take) but whenever it goes through it’s really laggy and poor quality I was wondering if potentially the HDMI would have something to do with it or maybe even just the monitor/TV I utilize because I could get it to work on my old PC with the smoothest frames known to man but as soon as it starts doing it on a new PC it’s like having trouble just keeping up

Same thing happened to me m8 no worries I got S+ capture card and it just didn’t work completely black screen or just not showing up on either end
Long story short i think it has to do something with the display settings on the PS3 & something to do with the Elgato program maybe as of right now things are looking fine on my end playing the God of War Collection.
just plug the hdmi into the splitter (second hdmi) instead of the elgato.
is there pc requirements just to record gameplay?
Hey can I use the new hd60 x?
Should work with any capture card with a HDMI splitter 🤝
Aye bro gotta ask can I just buy a portable computer I ain't got the money for a full on PC?
what about DPIbcable
bought a new splitter. still doesn't work. Elgato HD60 X and OREI HDMI Splitter
I got a question, does this work on other capture cards such as cheaper ones because the hd60 is expensive
I bought an even more expensive one (HD60 X) and it still didn't work. Ahahaha fml
@@scary5455 dam that must be so annoying. I gave up a few months ago cuz it just wasn’t working
does it matter if its V1.4 or V1.3?
Been reading reviews on Amazon and there are many that says that it didn't work.
I got the HD60 (basic)
If it does, I'll just use component.
The hdmi splitter doesnt turn on when i have the ps3 hdmi into the splitter but it does turn on when i put it into elgato. Makes no sense. Even with that no ps3 appearing on my elgato software
just plug the hdmi into the splitter (second hdmi) instead of the elgato.
Do you need
a elgato capture card for this to work? Or can it be any type of capture card no matter the brand
Late here, but if you're still looking for a capture card then yes, just about any capture card should work, you don't have to get elgato, I use XR1 Lite and it's pretty good. Recommend it.
@@Ruchiyoto Thanks for this. Do you happen to also have the hdmi splitter that is bundled with that capture card? I am thinking of buying the bundle to stream ps3.
@@natejafeth ViewHD 2 Port HDMI 1 in 2 Splitter I would recommend, since it bypasses HDCP, it is compatible with Elgato and EVGA XR1 Lite capture card.
So I have an Elgato HD60 S+ and so far, I haven't seen anything regarding this specific capture card. Does this work with the one I have? I followed the video to the T and I get no signal using OBS.
EDIT: I own a PS3 Slim with 120 GB storage on it, by the way. Does this work with that model or no?
Same. I'm using this splitter on my phat ps3 and see black screen.
Does this work with older Elgato HD Capture devices as well? And do you have to have a USB 3.0 cable? or would a 2.0 also work. Thanks
I haven’t tested them but if you already have the old elgato cards you will still need the hdmi splitter. I’d get one and try with your capture card you have first. Good luck!
@@visualfocusmedia2371 Thanks mate. Cheers
@kidbyersF1 anytime! Let me know how it goes
@@visualfocusmedia2371 just having a play now. Not sure if it will work 😂 but wanna get out of it cheap. Also from Australia 🇦🇺 here as well mate
@@kidbyersF1 I think you can try Harvey Norman and see if they have the HDMI splitter. They are pretty cheap $20-35
I have everything in the video hooked it up still doesnt work for me
Goddamit, im short of the splitter and 2 hdmi cables. Why oh why is it has to be this complicated?? 😭
Is it possible to stream on twitch like this?
I have the original Elgato Game Capture HD and I’m doing everything right the way it told me how to do it with the A/V and it’s not working. Is this version outdated is that why it’s not working ?
Are you using a HDMI splitter as well? I haven’t been able to get it working otherwise. It’s a pain, recording a ps4 or ps5 works with out the HDMI splitter though. If you follow the routing image in the video it should work even with an older Elgato card. Let me know how you go
does it matter which version of the elgato? 60 S or 60 S+?
Either should work or other cards but I was using 60 S+
Also outputting separate from the splitter had it on OBS at one point so ik it can
Does the capture card needs to really be the Elgato one or other models can still work? Cause I'm not gonna spend $ 200 just to record PS3 games with something that can be found for very much less
Other models can work, the splitter is the key part, it needs to strip the HDCP from the PS3 output
Can it be any capture card or certain one?
I have not tested other capture cards - But any card should work. The main thing is using the HDMI Spliter for the video feed to work!
Boss the OBS isn’t working on my system
What about audio
How do you bypass hdcp on ps3 ?
This video exists to guide you through the process of doing exactly that; basically, you need to connect your PS3's HDMI cable to an HDMI splitter, which itself is connected to the video capture device. Once you have all the necessary supplies (3 HDMI cables, 1 USB 3.0 cable, HDMI splitter, capture card, and of course the main pieces of hardware: PS3, PC, TV), you should be able to get things working by following the step-by-step process outlined in the video's first half.
I could play the PS3 on my screen and not on the pc while I record??
Same 😢
What if i only have 1 monitor and no laptop?
you can switch between inputs by having the PC connected via a different cable like DP. Maybe that's why mine isn't working though? He hearted your comment, but didn't dignify it with a reply, so who knows?
Okay so I can get my footage to come through on something like the Switch (this isn’t related to the PS3 just wanted to do a double take) but whenever it goes through it’s really laggy and poor quality I was wondering if potentially the HDMI would have something to do with it or maybe even just the monitor/TV I utilize because I could get it to work on my old PC with the smoothest frames known to man but as soon as it starts doing it on a new PC it’s like having trouble just keeping up
make sure the usb thats connected to the pc is a 3.0 or higher
Can anyone confirm if the HD60x works? It’s like the whole internet has the S
