My family has simply adored your commentaries! You are precious and so enjoyable to listen to. I love how your mind works and your sense of humor. I have to share this...we taught our daughter well...she grew up watching Columbo on DVD and he was just her absolute favorite. About 20 years ago when she was 10 we were visiting Southern California and drove by Peter Falk's house. Mrs. Falk was outside on the side porch with all the dogs. My daughter was so brave and hopeful - she got out of the car and walked up to the iron gate at the driveway (the side porch was just behind the gate) and through the gate she asked Mrs. Falk if she could possibly meet Mr. Falk. And she told her that she was his biggest fan. And Mrs. Falk said, "And his youngest!" And she went right in the house and told him. AND HE CAME OUT TO MEET ALL OF US! He came right out on the front porch and he even brought pen and paper in order to give her an autograph. He welcomed us all up there with him and was happy to take photos with us. He was so handsome and so well dressed, even on a casual day at home - lovely purple linen shirt and khaki pants and that beautiful silver hair. He could not have been more kind. Gave my daughter a sweet kiss on the cheek. Made us love him all the more! Looking forward to your next episode!
That is an AMAZING story!!! I'm so happy you and your family get to have that memory. What a special moment ❤️ I'm glad you enjoy the videos so much, it means a lot to me!

I found your channel about 3 weeks ago after a life time with zero Colombo. This is the 1st time I've got to experience the happiness of a new release from your channel (:
I've been rewatching original Columbo episodes from the beginning and only saw this one last week. All the added details really enhance the viewing experience of the episode and review. Excellent work from you as usual.
The sheer amount of research you put into these continues to astound. This is one of my favourite episodes - though I have to admit I'm not sure precisely why I like it so much. But you keep showing that I'm truly horrible when it comes to being observant; you point out item after item that is right in our faces, but I never even notice! Thank you for yet another terrific video!!
the way i am just binging all of these reviews as i wrap presents! Your attention to detail is insane, i love learning about all the background actors and behind the scene stories! thank you for all the effort you put in to these, it shows and is truly so delightful
Wonderfully done review as usual. I cant tell you how much i enjoy your in depth looks at Columbo episodes. Its my favorite show of all time and ive never had a chance to learn so much about it. Thank You for all your hard work, it truly brings me a bit of happiness.
I really enjoy your reviews and all the background info. I love this episode. It's so fun to see the great old stars from the past, like Anne Baxter and Mel Ferrer. So fun when you ID the old cars, houses, streets.
I came across your channel about six months ago, and it was nice being able to binge watch all of your reviews! Now I have to wait until a new one comes out! Ha! They’re always great!
Thanks bigly! This is going make for a great weekend. You have a keen eye to point out what most miss in these Columbo episodes. Oh! and just one more thing, please keep up the great work?😀
You are exceptional at adding depth to our knowledge and increasing the fun. 20:00. Conjecture but, it is probable that the scorched walls and other burn evidence was painted drywall or plywood placed over the owners’ walls and concrete. 37:00 is it possible that the signs in the Property Department are props?
Each of your commentaries is a Rembrandt. I always feel that Peter Falk is smiling☺ now at the ways you have explored and presented these masterpieces. God bless
Absolutely charming narrative. I am old enough to remember watching Columbo when they were originally aired. I still watch them today but this witty commentary makes it that much more enjoyable.
44:25 "You couldn't get bus fare for what's in there" - BEST! SNAPBACK! EVER! I've always loved that line and the way Anne delivers it. Fantastic writing/acting!
Hi! Just wanna say I’m big fan of these deep dives you do and I appreciate all the effort you put into them. Can’t wait Port in a Storm and A Stitch in Crime!!!
@@motojauntx Yeah, you're right. I like when Columbo lets the act drop, you get to see the hardened cop just for a moment. Something similar in a later season episode, 'An Exercise In Fatality', when he confronts Robert Conrad who is playing the concerned friend of the wife of the man he murdered.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed a ton of buildings in L.A. He designed the main buildings for Barnsdall Art Park in East Hollywood, where I was an art model off and on for years. Working in a Wright building was a joy. The lighting was impeccable for artists because Frank designed it that way. I am also an "artist who discovered guitar". That upscale stretch of Sunset Boulevard is like a touch of Beverly Hills and is featured heavily in Get Shorty, a very good movie. The cliche "act like you own the place" works 99% of the time when visiting an upscale joint.
@@WatchitforDays - L.A. is Instant Karma. L.A. is more interesting than the movies. L.A. throws out a lot of scary shit and when you realize that life is a play you get to choose your part and let the words flow. L.A. has snow and ocean.
@@dennismason3740 I bet this channel, above all others, would be Levinson and Link's favourite. Possibly Mr Falk himself. On another note: reflecting on Quinn Martin's use of the rural areas surrounding LA/SF; scrub, mountains, hills. Are any of them still unspoilt?
Nice! I'm at work right now, but I'll be definitely checking this out when I get home. This made my weekend even better. As always, I love your work, and thank you.
LOL, I was delighted when I got the new video notification, but I made myself put off watching it until tonight, so I would have something to look forward to all week!
"I guess when you're under the pressure, some thermos liquor should take care of it." Lol. I can personally attest to the healing powers of thermos liquor. Another great review WIFD. Love to see these pop into my notifications. Thanks as always.
Oh thank God! Finally! Another video! I was beginning to have the shakes and snap at people compulsively. I now feel calm and zen. Thank you, thank you, thank you. However, you may want to consider putting a disclaimer at the beginning of your future videos: highly addictive; may cause dependency. It would be the responsible thing to do after all…
Oh dear! That sounds intense, John Doe. I hope this video will hold you over for a few more weeks ❤️ I truly appreciate your kindness towards me, though. Thank you!
Your videos are terrific. Your voice is so soothing and sweet. You make me laugh. This is by far my favorite channel. Looking forward to your upcoming productions. Best of luck and keep up the great work!
Thank you for keeping on making these!! Columbo has been my favourite series since I was 13, I am 22 now 🥰 It also helped me develop my English, I am from Austria originally.
I'm a 75 year old English man from Rochdale, Lancashire. I really enjoy your reviews of my all-time favourite detective. I watched the very first episode at the time of release in the UK. Colombo is my go to comfort blanket and always cheers me up. No surprise then that I have watched all episodes many times over. So what a bonus when by chance I discovered your fantastic videos. I love everything about your work. Your attention to detail and your smashing sense of humour bring added enjoyment to every episode that you review. Got to admit that I love your accent to. I was brought up watching the likes of Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, Dragnet and many more. I've always loved America, and you are just the cherry on top! Keep up the good work. Best wishes Frank James Bennett IIII
Love the breathy voice, catty quips, paints suit. Columbo's probably the first real person she's met in years and he's after her! Love this channel. Uni of Columbo. Rewatch the shows you've studied with renewed relish. Cheers!!!
I watched through all of Columbo for the first time a couple months ago and I found your series a bit after I finished. Even though the episodes are still pretty fresh in my mind, I always learn something interesting about the production/actors/locations ect. from your videos! It’s always fun to hear your takes on the episodes :)
So happy to see you giving us another stellar review in our favorite detective!!!❤ I’ve never thought about Nora wanting to kill both Jean and Jerry Parks at the same time…this episode has always stumped me; did she want Jean dead for being so naive to trust a gossip columnist who has it out for her or to kill the obvious reason for her troubles? But had she killed both in one swoop- perfect…well, perfect for Nora and her reputation…not that I’m waving pom-poms cheering on her criminal actsI!😂 By the way, I always thought the reason why Jean didn’t jump out of the car when it burst into flames was because she got knocked out or fainted due to the slight explosion first… She did seem kinda mousy🤔 Love your channel, love your hard work and love you more!!!!❤🥰❤️BRAVO!!!!🎉 PS If you ever watched the Golden Girls, you would know that word “lanai” 😉
It seems she wanted to get rid of Jean because Jean was the only one who knew Nora killed her husband and since Jean was planning to marry a gossiping journalist and matrimony might get Jean to spill the beans on Nora's accidental murder of her husband, I suppose Nora figured it would be safest to just get rid of Jean. I loved reading your thoughts on the episode and truly appreciate your very kind words! ❤️
Yes, I think it was pretty obvious that once the pillow talk started, Jean would end up telling Jerry everything. I've always wondered, though - did Jerry suspect that Nora had killed her husband? It seems he figured there were some secrets in her past that would make juicy reading (or blackmail fodder) but did his suspicions already tend in this direction or was he just on the lookout for any dirt that might come his way? He didn't behave as if he thought Nora was a killer; he seemed to think her shady past was pretty much confined to financial matters. Though he did make that nasty crack about her husband turning over in his grave...
Holy cow! Edith Head made a cameo in this episode. Love your commentaries. I’ve watched Columbo for years and thought I’d seen all the first-run episodes from the 1970s but obviously missed this one - I even have an old box set.
I love what you do! Another great video! I watched these as a kid with my mom and I love the flashbacks. The best part is all your research, it brings a whole new level. Thanks so much!
Man one of the best things about this channel besides all the humor and commentary obviously lol, is the little tiny facts that I don't really NEED to know but i would still pause to look up, like the actor heights and the kinds of cars. It makes me feel really attached lol, like yea boi finally someone reviews the way I wish people would for my favorite things. Get those tiny facts!
Love your channel and your commentary. This is NOT a criticism, just an observation. 6:06: the "added car sounds" may in fact be the Spitfire. The fact that you hear the engine rev before the car moves is SOP for a standard shift car, especially if the driver is more concerned with not stalling than with not wearing out the clutch! Since manual transmissions have pretty much gone the way of the dodo, this would be easy to overlook.
This is one of my all-time favourite episodes (at least top 5). It has what I think is the best and probably (imo) one of the funniest comeback lines of the whole run when Jean tells Nora how much Parks admires her and Nora full of conceit simply says "who doesn't?" . Again, fabulous video, excellently researched as always. You have set a high bar for yourself and you never disappoint. I look forward to the next. And, in your own words 5 cigars out of 5. Bravo.
This episode was always up there on my top 10 list. I think Anne Baxter was marvelous playing an actress playing an actress. She was perfect. Definitely Hollywood!!! I’m so happy you like the episode as well because that scene at the end with her racing home is everything. She tries her best “Acting” but is caught in the end and realizes it’s over. Again you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge, humor and charm in all your reviews. I’m becoming a big a fan of you as much as Columbo and that’s saying a lot. Lol. Thanks again for all the hard work you do and the joy you give us in turning out these masterpieces. Be well my friend. Until the next episode!!! Always Ray ☕️
Another delight review by you, I especially enjoyed the wall of stars photos that you took the time to identify at 25:00 and when Anne Baxter set Jerry’s car ablaze, I thought you would have mentioned that it was the 2nd Jaguar XKE that was destroyed in the show. The first being in Hothouse of Horror, or the Gruesome Greenhouse, I can never remember the title, but you know what it is. Great job!
Another award-winning Colombo critique video. I find myself looking forward to each one. I am now already looking forward to next month or the next video. Keep up the great work. Love your delivery and the style in which you do your videos. God bless.
Nerdiest channel EVER. I LOVE IT!! :) I grew up in the 70s and my mom was huge Columbo fan so i saw all of these. how in the heck do you know all of these tidbits of amazing trivia? All expertly delivered with humor sprinkled in. I'm fixated. This is brilliant.
These episodes are always a pleasant surprise. Regarding the tire, tire valves are screwed into the nozzle and all you need is an object that that fits in between the sides of the valve pin and you can easily twist them out. I may have used a fork to loosen a teachers tire valves once
Amazing to see Edith Head- the woman with the most Oscar nominations and wins. She had such an amazing career. Some day you should check out her final film, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. The film is dedicated to her and it was a crime she wasn't even nominated considering the herculean task she had in not only recreating costumes from the film noir era, but also making sure the costumes in the new footage exactly matched those used in the dozens of films (spanning over a decade) they stitched together to make up the movie. For instance, she had to make a dress for Steve Martin to wear that intercut seamlessly to footage of Barbara Stanwyck in the same dress from scenes of Double Indemnity.
A great review as usual. It's one of my favourite episodes. The main villain is likeable and the twists of the story are good fun. Looking forward to future reviews.
Another fantastic effort! I rewatched this episode recently anticipating your next video. As far as the murder goes, since this was filmed at an actual house I can only assume that the effects crew were not allowed to completely blow up the car, as it would have damaged the house extensively, so as a result the explosion is a tad underwhelming. A note about the valve stem. What Columbo is referring to is removing the stem itself, not the cap, to let the air out of the tire.
I know there’s no way you would know this but the show was called Room 2-22 not room 2-2-2. I enjoy the the channel, excellent analysis. I used to watch Columbo with my mom very fond memories.
Great review, your standards of research and presentation are excellent as always. Rudolph 'Rudy' Valentino was a legend with the kind of star status that is almost impossible to conceive of today. No star/celebrity today matches the status and appeal of stars like Valentino. He was ,arguably, the world's first superstar and possessed huge sex appeal amongst women of his day. Though some critics occasionally questioned his masculinity - something he hated - a lot of men were happy to copy his looks. In fact a man with perfectly slicked-back hair was dubbed a "Vaselino". The great heavyweight champion, Jack Dempsey - the Manassa Mauler - who trained several Hollywood stars in boxing including Valentino said of him "He was the most virile and masculine of men. The women were like flies to a honeypot. He could never shake them off, anywhere he went. What a lovely, lucky guy" . And Dempsey should know, he was an absolute beast in the ring - watch archive footage of some of his fights! His fight with Jess "the Pottawatomie Giant" Willard was a demolition job! Valentino died in 1926 following complications from surgery conducted to ease what appeared to be appendicitis mixed with gastric ulcers ( his condition in which perforated ulcers present as appendicitis became known as 'Valentino's syndrome'). The streets of Manhattan were clogged with over 100,000 attending his funeral. There were all-day riots on August 24, the day of the funeral, as mourners tried to break into the funeral home to get a glimpse of their idol. Hundreds of police officers, including mounted officers, had to brought in to restore order. Pola Negri, the singer and silent film star, who claimed to be Valentino's secret fiancée, collapsed in hysterics over his coffin and it is reported that several women committed suicide when they learned Valentino had died. I don't wish to denigrate or belittle today's stars but I cannot imagine any modern film star coming even close to matching Valentino's appeal. Can you imagine such scenes at the funeral of any modern star/celebrity? Valentino has inspired or is alluded to in many songs but the one that comes to mind is "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy" written by Freddie Mercury and performed by Queen. Freddie, a very stylish figure himself, was in part inspired by Valentino's looks and style. The other one is the sequence from the end of Adam Ant's music video "Prince Charming" (if you haven't seen it, you really should it's terrific) in part of which he presents himself as Valentino in his iconic role as the Sheikh.
Wow! What a full and informative comment about the great Valentino! I truly appreciate you taking the time to type all of this for me to read. Thank you very much ❤️
The first time I ever encountered his name was in that song by the Bangles, “Manic Monday.” _Six o'clock already_ _I was just in the middle of a dream_ _I was kissin' Valentino_ _By a crystal-blue, Italian stream_ It made pre-teen me very curious who this Valentino was!
Wonderful video, a good columbo episode for sure. I'm really excited about a "Stitch in Crime" as I was a huge Leonard Nimoy fan. Keep up the great work.
I watch this video 1 hour after it was uploaded. I can't really add much to the very positive comments you're receiving. Your review-videos are an absolute treat! Thank You.
6:10 This was a clever catch! 7:24 !!! OMG! That's the tune!!! And you have more information on it this time! Kudos!!! The name allowed me to find at least 2 videos that have the audio snippet (sadly with the other SFX still attached, but the dialogue removed) 16:28 I liked it, not boring to me! I'm one of those few! 🙂 23:15 How have you lived through the Weinstein scandal and not heard of the "Casting Couch"?? 29:20 Kinda surprised there's no comment on the unique eyeglass rims here. They remind me of those egg holders I used to use as a kid to help lower eggs into mugs filled with inked water for Easter. (2 attached, obviously) 43:53 I don't mind these extra bits. You go out of your way for car details, it's part of your presentation...and that should never been seen as wrong or problematic! I forgot how much I enjoyed this one. :-)
Thank you for leaving such a great and detailed comment! If I have heard the world casting couch, I apparently wasn't listening! And I should have commented on her huge sunglasses but I never wrote anything down so I guess I stayed silent. But I agree with you, they totally look like those Easter Egg lowerers, haha.
Nora's acting is chef's kiss perfect. She's acting so hard to try to hide this thing that she's done she's frantic she's panicked, and then when it's all over it all just falls away from her face. She has a drink with Colombo and you realize that the role she's been playing is over. After all this time she doesn't have to act anymore
I am addicted to your reviews! When is the next one coming out? Love them - especially the location shots. I teach school and work as an extra during the summer. It’s fun when you pick out all the extras. I always get reused (even in the same episode) and I wonder if people notice (yup… a ponytail really doesn’t make me look all that different). 😂

I've been rewatching original Columbo episodes from the beginning and only saw this one last week. All the added details really enhance the viewing experience of the episode and review. Excellent work from you as usual.
Thank you very much, Wayne ❤️
The sheer amount of research you put into these continues to astound. This is one of my favourite episodes - though I have to admit I'm not sure precisely why I like it so much. But you keep showing that I'm truly horrible when it comes to being observant; you point out item after item that is right in our faces, but I never even notice! Thank you for yet another terrific video!!
Your comment is so sweet and very encouraging! Thank you for taking the time to write ❤️

Just giving this one "like" really isn't enough to express how much I enjoyed this video.
You are very sweet, thank you! ❤️
Wonderfully done review as usual. I cant tell you how much i enjoy your in depth looks at Columbo episodes. Its my favorite show of all time and ive never had a chance to learn so much about it. Thank You for all your hard work, it truly brings me a bit of happiness.

I am always shocked when you have such interesting stories to share from your life in LA
@@WatchitforDays - L.A. is Instant Karma. L.A. is more interesting than the movies. L.A. throws out a lot of scary shit and when you realize that life is a play you get to choose your part and let the words flow. L.A. has snow and ocean.
Had no idea Ann Baxter was related to Frank Lloyd-Wright. Now THAT'S proper trivia.
@@pamelaearl7191 - this channel excels in proper perspective.

Cheers!!!
I agree and thank you for always leaving me such kind words ❤️
@@WatchitforDays Yikes! I meant pant suits. Nora Chandler/Anne Baxter would never have worn paint suits. You're most welcome.

Anne Baxter was such a great actress. One of the first episodes I ever watched with my mom as a kid, so it has a special place in my memory.
She was fantastic... Thank you for sharing this memory with me ❤️
I watched through all of Columbo for the first time a couple months ago and I found your series a bit after I finished. Even though the episodes are still pretty fresh in my mind, I always learn something interesting about the production/actors/locations ect. from your videos! It’s always fun to hear your takes on the episodes :)
I really appreciate that and am so glad you're here! ❤️
Thank you very much!
I love what you do! Another great video! I watched these as a kid with my mom and I love the flashbacks. The best part is all your research, it brings a whole new level. Thanks so much!
I'm so happy you are here and enjoying Columbo with me! ❤️
I'm so glad you enjoy the videos, lol 😊 Thank you very much!
I like your theory. It explains the shock Anne Baxter displays when she sees Jerry alive.
Thank you very much
Love your channel and your commentary.
I sure appreciate you sharing this with me! Thank you very much ❤️
This is one of my all-time favourite episodes (at least top 5). Bravo.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the episode as well as saying such kind words ❤️

Lol. Great job!
You are funny 😁

Fascinating! Thank you for sharing

Thank you very much! And I really appreciate your input and helping answer my questions ❤️

Thank you very much ❤️
The first time I ever encountered his name was in that song by the Bangles, “Manic Monday.”
