Hi Shonna, this really is superb. Just a quickie, re the ending (I can't wade through 600 comments so apologies if this has already been mentioned), but there is always the possibility that Alan Mallory was dictating a 'do-over' when he experienced his demise. The Ellen McRae denouement could have been written earlier in that last week, and taken on by the courier, but Mallory could have decided to work that night to fine-tune the part he was departed from.
@@WatchitforDays Shonna, I was shocked, shocked, I say, that he couldn't have known the ending, what a great catch. I was still reeling from that when I saw your comment Paul, thanks for restoring some equilibrium :>
Yeah, I actually had to rewind and listen to that part a few times. I NEVER caught that, but I’m an author, and I actually dictate my drafts. 😂 When I outline, or when I change a plot point, I have to re-outline before I can dictate, so I’m going to make the assumption this was a draft of something previously outlined, or a second draft of something previously dictated.
So I discovered your video review of Columbo about a month ago. I was surprised that your videos didn’t present itself sooner especially since I follow another Columbo channel that deals with the music of Columbo and other related videos. You’ve been doing this for at least 4 years now and I’m just really surprised I didn’t discover you sooner. But anyways I’ve seen all your reviews and it’s been about two weeks now so I was anxiously waiting for your new one and to my surprise today was the day! Throughly enjoy each review and it’s very interesting on some of the things you pointed out in each episode and I never realized it in the first place. Your mother did you well for getting you into Columbo. My mother did as well though unintentionally. I don’t know somehow he got me hooked like my mother did. You do a lot of work and research to present these reviews and I just wanted to say thank you for your love and efforts to make it possible! It’s a lot of work to put it together and it’s much appreciated! I’m always very entertained by you! Looking forward to the next one, take care!
Just want to say thanks for making these. My wife and I really enjoy watching them. I can’t get my wife to watch any Columbo episodes but she really enjoys your videos.
Another excellent review. I like this episode a lot, 5/5 for me. Chandler reminds me of a mix of Frank Gorshin & John P. Ryan. He was very good as the mad bomber. Mariette Hartley is great and a really strong presence, despite the small role. Jack Cassidy is my favourite Columbo villain. He has the right amount of charm and sleaze and seems like he’s having fun. I liked Paul Shenar and if they had to have a recurring side character for Columbo to bounce off, I’d like to have seen more of him (blimey, his real-life partner was once Jeremy Brett, the greatest Holmes!). Wish they had more of Bob Dishy as Det. Sgt. Wilson, too. Really enjoy all the details you dig up and your comedic tangents. Eddie Van Halen looked like Ted Raimi in a wig in that photo you show of him. Immediately went online and found the Chasen’s Chilli recipe. I’ll be eating like Columbo soon, minus the crackers and ketchup which I’ve always found weird and can’t agree with.
It’s a good one! Some complexity, some humor, a great acting opportunity for Jack Cassidy. Mariette Hartley is great - looks awesome in a fedora - and she never plays ‘bimbos’ so is very enjoyable. Her creative input is key to the resolution - yay! I concur with your 5-Cigar rating - puff-puff!
Just finished catching up all of your videos! Thank you so much! I watched Columbo when I was a kid, here in Italy it was titled "Colombo", it was quite popular. I speedran through all the episodes again two years ago while recovering from Covid, finally watching them in the original language, as back then we used to dub everything here (we still do, but it's less common now). I guess we are very individual persons.
Brilliant as usual, thanks! This episode is a bit odd, the way the denouement suddenly arrives in what feels like the middle of the investigation. JC is magnificent.
You had me rolling with the chili montage! 😂 On the problem of the final clue… what if the author was dictating a second or third draft, which authors often do? This would allow the killer to know the basics and the author to want to add some final polish.
Thank you very much. You do such a thorough analysis. I enjoy all your videos. I have watched several more than once. I look forward to each upcoming episode.
Oh yes! He and Robert Culp. I think they should have written an episode starring Cassidy & Culp in which Columbo likes both characters but one of them is the bad guy. Columbo did say that some killers are likeable. 😊💓🕵♂🐶
Another great document with ultra detailed observations. My American cousin moved to California in the 1980s after college and early on was a babysitter for Mariette Hartley
My two cents on this: Love the Jack Bender reveal. Huge Lost fan. He also directed the Hold the Door episode of Game of Thrones. Was surprised you didn’t mention Mariette Hartley and James Garner commercials for Polaroid. First I started recognizing her. Also perhaps Bette Davis had a movie coming out or needed a job. Great job, as always. Such detail.
As a huge Columbo fan, I'm so glad I found yr channel. Hilarious, fun and informative all at the same time. Can't wait to hear what you have to say about the Robert Conrad episode.
This YT channel is simply brilliant. The work that has gone into creating this comprehensive Columbo breakdown is outstanding work. It's a hindrance that YT's stipulations have halted your progress. I hope you can finish the whole series or at least the 70's episodes. Keen look forward to's: A Deadly State of Mind; Troubled Waters; The Bye Bye Sky High IQ Case and The Conspirators.
I am stunned that you didn't mention Mariette Hartley's appearance in the Polaroid commercials. I'm sure millions more people recognize her from those than any movies. She and Jim Garner had absolutely electrifying chemistry in those commercials.
Another fine video. Something about Mariette Hartley: she became kind of a sensation in the mid-1970s and one of the most recognized people in the U.S. because of commercials she did for Polaroid that teamed her with James Garner. Their chemistry in the ads was so natural, many people thought they were a couple in real life. It's one of the few times a commercial propelled an individual to fame beyond the character they played in a series of ads.
I love these videos and they get better every time. Your sense of humor is fantastic and I love how much you nerd out over one of my favorite shows of all time.
Well now I can't stop thinking about the head-canon idea that Columbo is actually in a coma, and just solving similar cases with similar-looking people in his dreams.
I really love your attention to detail. All the info about the actors and props, the subtle and not so subtle humor. Just one more thing, you really do have an amazing voice for narration and voice-over.

Thank you very much, my Hobgoblin friend! I'm so glad you're here.
Just want to say thanks for making these. My wife and I really enjoy watching them. I can’t get my wife to watch any Columbo episodes but she really enjoys your videos.
@@scoobyshag85 awww, that means a lot to me. I'm so happy you and your wife are here!
Season three is one of the best. It gave me great joy to see this video come up.
Another terrific deep dive - I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every one you’ve done so far!
Oh how I love your rendering of Columbo. You have a wonderful sense of humor.
I'm so glad you're here to enjoy Columbo with me, my very individual friend in Italy

YAY!!! A new episode! Looking forward to digging into it.
Really enjoyed the episode Shonna. Very much appreciate the work you put in. Each premiere really puts a pep in my step 😊
Wow! Thank you for this very generous gift, MsStellaBoy :) I'm always happy to see you.
Seeing that all of the Hollywood A-listers were massive chili fans really warms my heart.
Another banger of an episode review, you haven't dropped your standards and that's why i keep coming back to this review series. 👍👍
Thank you, Wayne 😁
Brilliant as usual, thanks! This episode is a bit odd, the way the denouement suddenly arrives in what feels like the middle of the investigation. JC is magnificent.
Oh Goody!!!
Another great post from my favorite channel ❤
You had me rolling with the chili montage! 😂 On the problem of the final clue… what if the author was dictating a second or third draft, which authors often do? This would allow the killer to know the basics and the author to want to add some final polish.
Something to speculate
Thank you very much. You do such a thorough analysis. I enjoy all your videos. I have watched several more than once. I look forward to each upcoming episode.
That means a lot to me! Thank you 😊
I just love your sweet, soothing voice.
Thank you very much
Thanks for another awesome installment.
Thank you for this gift!
Good episode. Jack Cassidy played some of the best Columbo villains.
My two cents on this:
Love the Jack Bender reveal.
Coincidentally, I had to make up some deleted scenes from Lost to make the whole Richard final season make sense.
Oh, this is all the fun! Thank you as always! I watch these episodes constantly smiling--except when I'm laughing!
What a treat a new episode thank you 👍
I always get so happy when I see you've uploaded
Sweet. I’ve been waiting for your next upload. These deep dives are very entertaining.
As a huge Columbo fan, I'm so glad I found yr channel. Hilarious, fun and informative all at the same time. Can't wait to hear what you have to say about the Robert Conrad episode.
I'm so glad you're here!
Just in time to take a break and go back in time without disturbing the space time continuum (whatever that means).
I remember those! Both of them made magic and it was only a commercial.
she also played Spock's love interest in a Star Trek episode entitled "Unlikely Romance on Planet HooHaa"
You have imdb for that! The show would be 3 hrs long if every actor’s role was mentioned.
@@louisem7653 I am admonished and ask for my insanity to taken account of m'lud
That's what I always remember her for.
Aww, thank you very much!!
This was so good, you just keep getting better and better each video. :)
@@exitscreaming4637 awwww, thank you very much!
Thank you very much for the encouragement 😊
Cassidy: that devilish grin. Memorable.
