      Considering engine builds can easily exceed 10-15 grand, I would argue it’s pretty budget oriented. There are no custom parts, and for as much as the engine made, 5 grand isn’t bad.

      Not to mention you could build a thirty over 302 that'd make even tq or more and 80 more hp for 2800 bucks. That's budget but some people like to try reinventing the wheel, 2 V-8s for the price of 1 I-6 sounds like a bargain to me. Hell, you can buy a dyno'd 340 horse 306 from Blueprint w/ a warranty for under 5K.

      Some oils are florescent under black light - you can buy cheap B-L light torches from most hardware sores, then just need it to be dark.
      Can also work for coolants.
      Failing that dust the suspect areas with talcum powder, it'll stick to the oil and blow away from clean paint.

    Try the Clifford open plenum intake vs. the Offy dual-port. Then using the Clifford, install a plenum divider under the Holley 390 cfm carb. Seperate the back half of the intake from the front half, using a 1/4" aluminum plate. The firing order of the 300 makes a pulse wave develop under the carb unless the plenum is divided front from rear. This makes a 'wafting' current right under the throttle butterflys. They say you can generate a little more torque if the air stream doesn't waft back and forth. Makes the engine idle and maybe run smoother as well. The Clifford intake allows a divider to be installed, because the carb base plate is removeable.

    • @deadcarnahans1932
      @deadcarnahans1932 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm using 500 cfm 2 barrel Holley on the open plenum. I have a 2 hole heat insulating spacer under carb and then the adaptor plate. This puts carb up away from manifold quite a bit.
      Hopefully this negates the waft some.

    • @BigElCat
      @BigElCat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@deadcarnahans1932 You ought to get a scrap of 1/4" aluminum plate and JB Weld it to the 2 barrel adaptor. The carb has to sit with the barrels parallel to engine block. The plate doesn't have to seal on the sides or bottom of the plenum, a small gap is okay. An old school dude told me about this in the 1990s. He said he could feel the difference coming off idle. I have the pieces to do it, but never got around to it.

Tons of room under the hood for ANY repairs.... not like today where it takes double jointed arms and 2 hours to change the battery or replace a headlight bulb. Last repair I did was change out the full pump that ran off the cam ( as you probably already know) in a Canadian Tire parking lot in the Annapolis Valley in NS. Good times👍

      Ford, Chev, Dodge will never do that. they want these trucks to die just before you make your last payment.
      Then you have to go buy a new truck and start again. there is a reason why the Square body era trucks are getting hard to find and if you find them the owner will NOT part with it.

Anyway I learned something about welding cast iron and the block was repaired so it's not so bad after all. I like the idea of putting those 35's on my 96 4x4 F-150 but I'm wanting to put a turbo on it's 300. Really enjoyed the show and am super glad y'all are doing a wide variety of engine's. @powernation this 300 has a lot more to give, but those numbers are respectable for a streetable 300! You could gain some NA HP by zero decking the block and possibly popping the pistons .005" out of the holes. The felpro head gaskets available for these are pretty tall (.045 crush give or take) so getting your block at zero or above will help with quench tremendously. Take a bit off the head and CC it so you get to around 9:1 or 9.5:1 compression and she will probably give you 225-250hp or better with a good improvement in torque. These are all things that, to save money, you can have done in lieu of just a basic head and block surface. Also, if you can find a 2x4bbl intake from off or clifford, you can use 2 smaller 2bbls for equal CFM but better fuel distribution and possibly be able to give her more timing with a better mixture. HUGE NOTE that people need to be aware of here for a street driven 300!! You MUST have a water heated intake! If you don't, you will get fuel icing conditions on the street and it will stumble and run like crap until the engine is up to temp....and forget driving it on a cold day without a water heated intake. Because 6's don't have the manifold directly over the block like a V8, they utilized exhaust heat in stock form to keep the fuel atomized in the long runners of the intake. With headers you can't do this, so the non-heated intake and a set of headers should be considered a race only application.

    That 300 sounded pretty sweet! If you want other non V8 engines to build, here are two I like. I want to see a cammed, mildly-built 4.0 cologne V6, and a built 22R. I want to retain low-end power and torque, but also increase power throughout the RPM range.
