I consider Jani Lane one of the best songwriters from that era. He deserved so much more credit. They did enjoy some of the big success. Wish it would have lasted forever. RIP Jani Lane.

Jani was an awesome songwriter who unfortunately never really had a great supporting cast around him. Warrant were cookie cutter musicians who could barely even play in the early days. They could have pulled literally thousands of guys in off the street and gotten that same sound. Jani never had a Mick Mars, Richie Sambora or a Slash to bring a unique element to the sound.

@@califtom -- FYI-- Nikki Sixx wrote the majority of Motleys biggest hits, not fuckin Mick Mars, who is an average lead guitarist at best. Most 80s shredders would piss on him. Pure examples: Zakk Wylde, Randy Rhoads, Warren DiMartin, George Lynch and Carlos Cavazo.i

Saw this tour in Cincinnati in late '94 and it blew me away! Got to meet Jani (RIP) and Jerry after the show. Although I am also a big Steven Sweet fan, James Kottack (RIP) was a freakin' beast! I am a singer and Jani Lane is my absolute, all-time #1 favorite and inspiration. He was the greatest singer, front-man, and songwriter of this era of rock and roll and can stand toe-to-toe with most other eras as well.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on him being the best frontman of the time. I'm gonna say it's the one and only STEVE WHITEMAN.
Who Jani sez was the reason he wanted to be a singer. Steve was one of his favorites and MENTOR...

Nathan, while I have lived in LA for 27 years now, my girl and I were AT that show at Annie's in December 1994. Met Jani for the first time and stayed friends for the last 17 years of his life!
Upon his passing in 2011, and Obi (Band manager) calling back after I left a very emotional, tearful message) I drove to the service in Malibu, blasting all Jani music and bawling my eyes out! Again.
He was AMAZINGLY talented and ALWAYS treated me/us with respect and I know I will see him again.
BTW, he texted me on the evening he proposed to Kimberly 💔💔🙏🙏
"CAN WE REWIND TO WHERE WE'VE BEEN?" (Down Boys) I love you Jani!

Despite the fact that most only know DRFSR and Cherry Pie, he got better as he went along. Ultraphobic, Belly to Belly, and Back Down to One are incredible. Three years in the future here and I totally agree, Jani got better from Dog Eat Dog and on. Ultraphobic is an all-timer for me. He gave me a demo copy of Jabberwocky YEARS ago. We were friends for YEARS until his passing and I miss him every day, but my faith gets me through, BELIEVING that we will all be reunited eventually.
Like all of my other influences and heroes, he too, treated me (us, my now ex-girlfriend) with respect and always saw that we were taken care of.

In the 90's, Warrant among others 80's US hard rock/metal bands should've moved their operation basis to Europe, south America and Asia, just as Obituary, Dio, WASP, Incantation, Monster Magnet, TOTO, Yes, Dream Theatre, Satriani, and many others did. The scene was/is alive and well.
Here in the States people forgot their own bands. Some magazine editors idolized the Seattle movement ... But you have to remember that the grunge thing got diluted pretty fast. Heavy music was on underground again and survived that way through the rest of the decade.

Jani really had an incredible voice. I saw Warrant open for Poison in Greensboro, NC. It was the "Cherry Pie" tour. Poison didn't show because Brett Michaels was having problems with his Diabetes. Warrant played both the DRFSR and Cherry Pie albums minus one or two songs to make up for it. They offered ticket refunds but I was there to see Warrant anyway and I was completely satisfied.

They played a club in his hometown of Akron, (I believe about a month or two before this show), during this tour and I was privileged to open for them as the drummer of a local Akron band.
I ended up standing in the parking lot at Ramon’s Nite Club next to the MAN, Jani Lane, signing autographs.
One of the best moments in all my days playing.
I wish I could find a spot playing with one of the 80’s bands that are still at it or looking to tour again.
    Thanks for posting!

My friends and I got into Warrant on the Dog Eat Dog record...which we got as an accident for not sending the pick of the month card from Columbia House back on time!
We were all heartbroken when they broke up late in 92, and stoked when they got back together just as quick. In the buildup to the release of Ultraphobic, we prayed they would come to the Portland Oregon area, but alas, they never did.
We didn't have youtube then, and I have reveled in watching the performance from the tour of this time. Those albums of the late 90's (Utlraphobic and Belly 2 Belly) are two of my all time favorite records. I just wish I had gotten the chance to see them.
I eventually saw them in 2001 on the Poison tour, and in 2003 for the Metal Edge Rockfest tour.

Great concert!! I love Jani, a Unique voice, and Warrant, one of the biggest hair, pop metal rock bands. In Italy they have not become famous, In 1992 they participated in the MOR in Reggio Emilia but they had changed their musical genre and nobody knew them with very different bands & Crowd (black Sabbat, Megadeth, Pantera, Maiden). Jani was very nervous at that concert. They were like fish out of the water.

What I wouldn't give to have had the same type of taping equipment that we have now. It breaks my heart that I can't even see his face. There is no one who complains more about technology than I do but that all changes when we don't have great concert footage from the day. What a shame. Although to be honest I usually cry all the way through the first half of this anyway and then I I managed to pull myself together. I don't just grieve the loss of the band and the loss of Jani which is devastating but it's the whole Era. There was nothing like the late 80s and early 90s. It was that feeling that we would be young and party forever and the only thing that mattered was the music, where was the best-looking guys and gals were and what band was playing where. Then we all lost our minds and got married and had children. Whatever made that seem like a good idea. LOL

    • @ThundersMcCoy
      @ThundersMcCoy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have all the "great concert footage" in my memory, which is where it's supposed to be. You don't know how many times I'll think about a show from back in the day and remember it as being so great only to find footage or audio on TH-cam only to hear it through trained ears that the show really sucked. I'll watch old footage, but I'll never rewatch something I personally experienced ever again. These things are supposed to be enjoyed in the moment not taped and re-watched. That's why kids are so miserable these days & we had the times of our lives. BTW the party hasn't ended...it just went underground, where it belongs. ;)

I think this was the same tour I saw in Mandan ND at a place called Eddie's. I was working in TV at the time and convinced my bosses to let me do a feature on the band. They gave me incredible access, a pre show interview with the band and then they introduced me to Jani after the set and he and I hung, talked and drank together for hours. They came back through for an outdoor show about 6 years later and recognized me and let me shoot the entire show. It's still probably on Super VHS tapes somewhere in someone's storage unit in North Dakota. Ha! I miss them so much. RIP Jani.
