    My son is 6'11" at 16 and had OS. Followed a program from some therapists in Australia and is now recovered with no bump or pain. The key treatment is lots and lots of foam rolling, along with some specific stretches. Core advantage was the name of the program I think.

      Left Knee as well. Got it when I was 9-10 yrs and thought I had fractured my knee but it wasn't painful unless I kneeled on it. Am now 31 and have a noticeable knob on my knee. I have learned to rotate slightly when I kneel so that I am on the outer muscle of the calf rather than the actual knee. My other knee has dried out from compensating for the OS Left Knee. I hear crackle every-time I stand up now.

    I'm 50+ had it all my life. Facts from my own experience(I have the most extreme condition, both knee protrudes over an 1" when sitting).
    a.) Doesn't go away. Not a temporary "fluid/imflammation". Calcium doesn't dissolve away.
    b.) Grow during teen years. STOP whatever sport you are dong. You're a teen. You care more about looks, right? If you're olympic, NBA bound? Hire a sports medicine therapist.
    c.) Surgery looks nice. To cut, shave and re-attach ligament that anchors the quadricep ligament to the tibia = never as STRONG as the original joint.
    d.) Again, looks nice, but athlete's I don't have to tell you weak quadricep ligament = low performance. Unless, you are a teenager.
    e.) Of course, it's going to hurt when you kneel down. Ever kneel down on your elbow with your full weight on it. Duh. Don't ever kneel down without a knee pad.
    f.) If you ever fall on the "point" of your OSG knee's it's like falling on the point of your elbow. Yes, it will hurt, swell, and incapacitate you from bending your knee for a week to a month.

    • @trexinvert
      @trexinvert 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@glennnichols4220 Just to highlight on the positive side. I've run almost 50 marathons in my life and weight train continuously(or rather doing shoulder rehab). You have to be careful on the leg extension machine, and when doing the squat be very aware of the technique. Notice I didn't mention "proper technique". It's whatever technique is logical and works and doesn't cause pain(during or after). My OS knee's tend to force me to use more glutes/lower back motion. Also, any "quick motion" will cause stress and pain at the OS area. Something I have to be careful when riding my unicycle, which requires involuntary rapid motion sometimes.

    • @glennnichols4220
      @glennnichols4220 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@trexinvert Well I am glad you have positives with OS. I don't see any benefits of having it. Yes there are certainly ways of squating that I have to use different muscles also leg presses bother me a lot. My right leg also having the OS caused my knee to be crooked amd therefore my leg is not straight either which causes a lot of issues. To bad when we were kids we didn't know any better on the right way to deal with this.

    • @trexinvert
      @trexinvert 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@glennnichols4220 I remember my doctor telling me some kids would end up with "cast" on their legs to prevent them from playing sports. I could have used that, but would hated it. I think it was from my playing tennis that aggravated the O.S. It requires some explosive motion not unlike basketball or football without the physical contact. I look at my O.S. condition as just a specific weakness that must be carefully watched. Just like when I was training for marathons I always paid attention to pain during/after/next day conditions. Never follow the 80's "no pain no gain motto". In the gym, always control the range of motion, resistance, and frequency of exercise with feedback from your body. As an older person, flexibility/stretching and joint usage need also be minded...if not more than the workouts.
