My first and only great one Whitetail was the beginning of 2022 and I was just shooting Whitetail casually not even knowing what herd management was and got it.
Just started playing 1 day ago, made level 8 already! Just focusing on my shots, hunting my favorite animal, and understanding the time zones for each animal on Layton Lakes! I also play this game with one of my sons, Terry. We both get a thrill out of scoring a good animal. I have been playing for two years and haven't grown tired of it.
Am new to the game, 53 hours in, I'm lvl 17, watched this halfway then stopped to play, got my first diamond and it was a rocky mountain elk, my 205th harvest, thank you lady
2 years, 2082 hours and 38 diamonds out of 3584 harvests which seems like nothing compared to 1400 diamonds but then I have never played multiplayer which I think makes a difference. One tip I would that you didn't mention is to check tracks at the zones you find. I was determined to get a diamond racoon on New England and so I finally hunted the river during drink time but then continued running up the river right after drink time to find all the racoon drink zones and checked the tracks around the zone for max weight. The second day of running right after drink time I found a zone with a max weight track leading into and out of it, was there the next morning and had my diamond. It won't work every time but it can help.
I started playing in August 2022. Followed all your videos and instructions and I get diamonds. I don't get hundreds of them but I do get them. I find that some of my diamonds are buried deep in the woods like Roosevelt Elk. I do the drink zones too.
While doing my herd management I was experimenting on which worked in my favour the most so I tried the one where I shoot the level 3s and 4s for moose and left the 5s and 1s and 2s and it rewarded me with about 4 diamond moose on my map so far I tried another strategy I saw which was shoot the bigger ones and leave the 3s until the 4 turned into either a 2 or a 5 and then id shoot some of the 3s and it gave me about 5 diamonds I am experimenting with different kinds of grinding strategys
I tried this game a few years ago during lockdowns with covid. Didn't take to it. Now, after picking it up again, I am loving it. 3 weeks in and have had a few golds but no diamonds.

I've owned the game for 3 years & 3 months, but I've only been playing for 1 year & 3 months. This past Sunday on a LIVE Twitch Stream, my 1st kill of the day was a Diamond = My 3rd EVER!
Been playing about 6 months , sometimes 3 hours a week, sometimes not at all. I have 10 diamonds so far . A bunch of abinos and piebald Live you videos, they have helped with my limited time to play.
I am on my red deer grind and 550 kills in I have got 3 rares 6 diamonds and my first great one! I have been using herd management from your videos so thanks a lot. I still can’t believe how lucky I have been. I have also got a diamond fallow and two white tails 😊
Couple years between my last playthrough and this one; been mainlining tH:CotW while I work, typing while I camp need zones, so I'm not expecting instant gratification (though it'd be nice; my neurons have no patience). I honestly wouldn't give a fig about diamonds if I didn't need to bag some for quests; I'm just here to do all the quests and move on to the next park. Problem is, it's my understanding that plucking the alpha from a herd causes that one to respawn +/- size/rating, but no one ever seems to know what the cooldown is for respawns, or if they even work as intended. So I decapitate a herd at a drink, come back every day for days on end, and said alpha never comes back. I'm aware I might not be "giving them space", if that's even a thing respawns require. The mechanism is just utterly arcane and inscrutable, and it makes farming feel like a demoralizing waste of effort.
Been playing on and off for 2 years almost and only have a Diamond bear that i got recently to show. Im not sure if its inaccurate or it was just not mentioned but i noticed it in the video. Placing a tent down (as far as i know) creates an area around it where animals will generally try to avoid. Last I had heard, that area is about 200-300 meters. Only ever tried it once so idk if its accurate.
On the times for animals there’s a app you can download on your phone that shows you every time for every animal on every map and their trophy rating and how rare it is too get certain fur types
I've been playing for 5 years but I have never gotten a diamond (excluding the ones from story missions). And after watching this video I have been getting quite a lot of high-levels but no diamonds yet. Currently going after whitetail to also increase my chances of a Great One.

Hi..Thank you for the time making this video..I am a real life hunter myself and do play this game a lot.. I know everyone play the game as they want to, and I don't have a issue with it.. I just think the developer of this game did not really go out to simulate a real world hunting experience.. Grinding for Diamonds and Great Ones is actually more of a "mass murder" experience.. sitting at lakes where animals have to go to do their daily drinks, is no challenge at all... it is like a shooting range where you just shoot and shoot 1000's of animals instead of shooting Targets... in the real world a hunter will searching for animals in the bushes and fields, not sitting at waterholes and wait for your pray.. that is not a real challenge... I did find some diamonds by just strolling thru the maps and shoot some mid to high level animals out where I find them in the map, and it will probably take me longer to shoot what about 2 to 3 thousend animals to spawn a great one for example, but at least I gave the animal same advantage than I have to either be found or not found...my comment is not for you or any player who like to sit and shoot thousands of animsls at a waterhole, but I think the game developer should have made spawning of Diamonds or Great ones little more easy, so you don't have to sit and shoot 1000's of animals at a waterhole, but let it spawn in the bushes and fields, drinking at different waterholes, etc... that is real world hunting...maybe most people get fun out of Grinding because of the time they have to spend on the game, but I don't see the challenge of sitting and "murder" 1000's of animals to get a diamond or great one... maybe someone must make some videos by try to find great ones and Diamonds not by grinding at a waterhole, but search and shoot them in the bushes and fields till a diamond or great one spawn... obviously I don't think anyone will because it will take a tremendous time and effort, but hey, then you can really say I deserve it because of the efforts i put in... happy hunting all..
The beauty of this game is you can play it any way you want. There's no right or wrong way. Do what you enjoy. It's a game. It's supposed to be fun. That's more important than being exactly like real life hunting imho. There is no way to get Great Ones without grinding unless you have serious horseshoes. It's the only way
Got my first and only diamond so far after almost 40 hours in the game. Its a moose that ran at me from 20 meters while I was hunting whitetail on New England Mountains. Crazy! Also I have an albino moose from the same hunt 🙃
@@s14_richiee82 you definitely need to set the time to like 0545 and walk the rivers and to the lakes. Then from 0800 to 1200 every lake is filled with whitetail. Moose are 1200-1600 and they have way more drink zones than whitetail

Thanks for the video, I just started playing a couple of weeks ago. I have seen several videos but yours has been the best one yet. I definitely have a long way to go, was getting frustrated because of not seeing very many animals. I see you have to be very patience.
You're very welcome! Give it time. The base game maps are not the best for beginners. Many more animals on most of the DLC maps. You can play them for free in MP
I got a diamond moose on my first day of playing! Completely on accident. Almost hit the heart on my first shot, but got the lung instead. I was completely shocked it was a diamond
Fun tip when spotting, a US army study showed that scanning from right to left is more effective than from left to right. This is due to how when most people read its from left to right, so your mind/eyes skip over things easier, but scanning from right to left allows you to subconsciously notice more of what you look at. I have 5 or 6 diamonds I did 3 grinds so far one was a wild yak, and I got 3 diamonds from that, and I did a white tail grind but didn't finish it and I am doing as tiger grind right now it's not going to good though
Just scored my first Diamond Buff!!!! I used your loadout dropped my pack and just hunted taking golds only. My Diamond count is 104 but on Xbox there was a glitch and harvesting counts got messed up so I do believe have 75!!! 3yrs playing somewhat religiously.
I just loaded up Layton lake and found a diamond whitetail in about 10 min (also my first diamond). I'm assuming he was hanging around from last time I was on the map but he was only a level 2 or 3 and his trophy rating is 256
I played for 100s of hours playing exactly how I was seeing people online and killed like 3 or 4 diamonds but they were animals like cougars and turkeys but not ones I was actually hunting. Probably after 1000 hours or so I decided to start playing multiplayer and was getting maybe a 2 a month. It was way easier that way. BUT… I was on someone’s map and finally found a diamond mule deer which was one I worked on for so long. I was so dang happy I finally got one. I went to a different location and found another one. I couldn’t believe it I just 2 diamonds I have put so many hours trying to do. I was literally on the moon. Went to another location and their were a heard of big horns and 3 of them were level 5s. Then I turned around and there was 2 diamond cougars. Turns out the guy had some mod installed that floods the map with diamonds. I was under the impression mods weren’t possible for this game but unfortunately they are. I was beat done from that and haven’t played much since.
Stacked 5 lvl 5 moose through the werk and came home after icefishing today amd decide its time to wack them all. 3 trolls, 1 diamond and 1 that was not shot just disappeared from the lake...but picked up a lvl 4 diamond and a gold mel. Had the game since 2019 but it was tough at the beginning. Really started playing maybe 4 months ago and got 12 diamonds now, and messed up a few more like pulling up the 243 instead of the 22 on a 4.69 turkey, the day after dropping a 4.69 capercali with some bucks. Duh!
I've been casually playing since 2017. I just found my 40th Whitetail drinking zone in Layton lakes and now I'm trying to spawn a great one. I have harvested 1 diamond whitetail but that was long before I found "all" my drink zones. I think I have already messed up my game because I have never done herd management and I have ruined several zones, i.e. killing all the deer, killing 4 on foot and making the zone disappear. Do I need to start all the way over?
Been playing since console release and only have 4 diamonds. I'm totally okay with that too. Still makes me excited to see one and don't wanna run around and grind for anything.
Hi Lady. I have been playing for about 4 months and i have 21 diamonds. Im smashing NZ to attwmpt a GO grind so alot of my trophies are Red Deer, Fallow and Goat.......some ducks. Lol
today i watched this video during my boring online class. im lvl 15 and dont even have all recommended skills. so in the evening, i was actually on coyote hunt on the back of mount Leviathan. and there he was. lvl 5 blacktail. i snuck up to 100 meters, took a deep breath and bäm. my first diamond. thank you for the good karma i guess
This start was the embodiment of my hunts. I only see golds at best. And yes i have yet to find a diamond outside a story animal. These tips have improved my gold hunt. Does total bag carry weight matter? As of the new dlc i really don't know.

I’ve been playing for 3 years off and on. No diamond yet. I do use the 6.5 Martensson. It’s accurate and low minimum recoil. But it’s seem a long time for an animal to go down.
I've been playing for about half a year and I've had 1 diamond whitetail for the longest time. Just a week ago I've started getting more rares and more diamonds. I've got 4 rares and 7 diamonds since this week 👍

i play a lot on silver ridge. i had started it as a mutiplayer so me and my friend can play on it but back to back the times i had the server open he stole a diamond turkey and a diamond mule deer. i check the spots he killed them at and i go lake hoping but i never see any diamond rating/age animals. what should i do? i have had the game for a year so far and i grind silver ridge peaks but not to the point of extinction.
Why did I not know this about the backpack? I have had one on since I started playing. I guess it is good to have when moving equipment around but then ditch it once start hunting.
I’d recommend Big Dipper lake in New England if your looking for white tail there’s a lot of drinking areas there if anyone is looking for a diamond Whitetail
Just restarted about 10ish days ago and im at 145 hours and have 6 diamonds. 2 brown bears, saltwater croc, 2 fallows 1 of them albino, and a red deer. Right around 800 kills total

Im lvl 45 . Neves played for Diamonds . Last week i decided to start . 4 days in with out herd management , with a total of 180 kills i have 1 albino and 1 Diamond blacktail

Love your videos! I only just picked up COTW about two weeks ago when it was on sale for like $3 and I am loving it. You asked in the video about when we got our first Dimond. I apparently got my first Dimond on my third day of playing the game. I have no idea what animal it was. I didn't have any understanding of ratings yet but I got the achievement "Diamonds are forever" on day 3 of playing the game. It was 2 days later when I got my first gold. lol

I’ve been playing for about 300 hours across 2 accounts and I have gotten a diamond lion,moose, red deer, Rocky Mountain elk, and a feral goat (day 1 of emerald coast release)

I've been lugging around a tripod stand, but it's constantly scaring off stuff I'm close to. Is there anything you can drop that doesn't have that effect? I don't want to start shooting at a group of 6 without reduced hunting pressure and there was a mythical in the group :(
@@LadyLegendXO I tried like 200m and those camo tents too.. All of them spooked the animals. Guess I'll just have to grind a bit to get enough of them to put them all over where I need it :D
To spawn a great one do you have to report you kills online or do you just have to keep up with it, and how many red deer do you have to kill to spawn a great one?

You want to drop your tent 250-300m from the zone for shooting. You can drop a tent close by the zone for pickup and there’s no issues

@@s14_richiee82 you definitely need to set the time to like 0545 and walk the rivers and to the lakes. Then from 0800 to 1200 every lake is filled with whitetail. Moose are 1200-1600 and they have way more drink zones than whitetail

Thanks for the video, I just started playing a couple of weeks ago. I have seen several videos but yours has been the best one yet. I definitely have a long way to go, was getting frustrated because of not seeing very many animals. I see you have to be very patience.
You're very welcome! Give it time. The base game maps are not the best for beginners. Many more animals on most of the DLC maps. You can play them for free in MP

I got a diamond moose on my first day of playing! Completely on accident. Almost hit the heart on my first shot, but got the lung instead. I was completely shocked it was a diamond

Fun tip when spotting, a US army study showed that scanning from right to left is more effective than from left to right. This is due to how when most people read its from left to right, so your mind/eyes skip over things easier, but scanning from right to left allows you to subconsciously notice more of what you look at. I've been playing for about 2 months, I got my first Diamond Moose on NEM. My second was on PF, cinnamon teal 3 days later.
I have 5 or 6 diamonds I did 3 grinds so far one was a wild yak, and I got 3 diamonds from that, and I did a white tail grind but didn't finish it and I am doing as tiger grind right now it's not going to good though
What should I do if I see zones with nothing but does in my great one whitetail grind? Should I shoot them out or keep them?

i've been playing for about 6 months and have 2 diamonds, a diamond moose I shot on my first day, and a diamond eurasian widgeon I shot 2 days ago.
Ive been playing for 3 months now, and i just got my fiest diamond tonight! Started easy with a Banteng in Emerald Coast haha
I played for 100s of hours playing exactly how I was seeing people online and killed like 3 or 4 diamonds but they were animals like cougars and turkeys but not ones I was actually hunting. Probably after 1000 hours or so I decided to start playing multiplayer and was getting maybe a 2 a month. It was way easier that way.
BUT… I was on someone’s map and finally found a diamond mule deer which was one I worked on for so long. I was so dang happy I finally got one. I went to a different location and found another one. I couldn’t believe it I just 2 diamonds I have put so many hours trying to do. I was literally on the moon. Went to another location and their were a heard of big horns and 3 of them were level 5s. Then I turned around and there was 2 diamond cougars. Turns out the guy had some mod installed that floods the map with diamonds. I was under the impression mods weren’t possible for this game but unfortunately they are. I was beat done from that and haven’t played much since.
I got a diamond after about 5 hours of playtime...I realized i was lucky but i didn't think i was this lucky XD

Stacked 5 lvl 5 moose through the werk and came home after icefishing today amd decide its time to wack them all. 3 trolls, 1 diamond and 1 that was not shot just disappeared from the lake...but picked up a lvl 4 diamond and a gold mel.
Had the game since 2019 but it was tough at the beginning. Really started playing maybe 4 months ago and got 12 diamonds now, and messed up a few more like pulling up the 243 instead of the 22 on a 4.69 turkey, the day after dropping a 4.69 capercali with some bucks. Duh!

I've been casually playing since 2017. I just found my 40th Whitetail drinking zone in Layton lakes and now I'm trying to spawn a great one. I have harvested 1 diamond whitetail but that was long before I found "all" my drink zones. I think I have already messed up my game because I have never done herd management and I have ruined several zones, i.e. killing all the deer, killing 4 on foot and making the zone disappear.
Do I need to start all the way over?
When I started playing 3 years ago I watched you to see what to do and now I have 30 diamonds and 1 g1 whitetail

Im smashing NZ to attwmpt a GO grind so alot of my trophies are Red Deer, Fallow and Goat.......some ducks. Lol
today i watched this video during my boring online class. im lvl 15 and dont even have all recommended skills. so in the evening, i was actually on coyote hunt on the back of mount Leviathan. and there he was. lvl 5 blacktail. i snuck up to 100 meters, took a deep breath and bäm. my first diamond. thank you for the good karma i guess
This start was the embodiment of my hunts. I only see golds at best. And yes i have yet to find a diamond outside a story animal. These tips have improved my gold hunt. Does total bag carry weight matter? As of the new dlc i really don't know.

I’ve been playing for 3 years off and on. No diamond yet. I do use the 6.5 Martensson. It’s accurate and low minimum recoil. But it’s seem a long time for an animal to go down.

i play a lot on silver ridge. i had started it as a mutiplayer so me and my friend can play on it but back to back the times i had the server open he stole a diamond turkey and a diamond mule deer. i check the spots he killed them at and i go lake hoping but i never see any diamond rating/age animals. what should i do? i have had the game for a year so far and i grind silver ridge peaks but not to the point of extinction.
Why did I not know this about the backpack? I have had one on since I started playing. I guess it is good to have when moving equipment around but then ditch it once start hunting.

Just restarted about 10ish days ago and im at 145 hours and have 6 diamonds. 2 brown bears, saltwater croc, 2 fallows 1 of them albino, and a red deer. Right around 800 kills total

Love your videos! I only just picked up COTW about two weeks ago when it was on sale for like $3 and I am loving it. You asked in the video about when we got our first Dimond. I apparently got my first Dimond on my third day of playing the game. I have no idea what animal it was. I didn't have any understanding of ratings yet but I got the achievement "Diamonds are forever" on day 3 of playing the game. It was 2 days later when I got my first gold. lol
How was it only 3 dollars????

How far away from a Diamond does a Tripod, and portable ground blind need to be?
I've been lugging around a tripod stand, but it's constantly scaring off stuff I'm close to. Is there anything you can drop that doesn't have that effect? I don't want to start shooting at a group of 6 without reduced hunting pressure and there was a mythical in the group :(
Drop tripods 150 m or more away from animals to not spook
@@LadyLegendXO I tried like 200m and those camo tents too.. All of them spooked the animals. Guess I'll just have to grind a bit to get enough of them to put them all over where I need it :D
To spawn a great one do you have to report you kills online or do you just have to keep up with it, and how many red deer do you have to kill to spawn a great one?
No reporting anything. Just kill a bunch of the species you want a Great One of - only kill males. Can be 200 kills or 5000 - depends on your luck
