- How respawns work can be very confusing in The Hunter Call of the Wild but today's video can definitely help with that! In today's video, we talk about how need zones and respawns work, how to spawn more diamonds and rares, how to set up a grind for success and more! I've tested the respawn with pumas and hunted on only two lakes on opposite areas of the map. I only shot females on the lake I wanted to grind, and only makes on the one that was bad to grind. After a while I had ONLY males around my grind lake! The only explenation is they respawned as males from the other lake. Then I stopped hunting the other lake and did my grind. Worked a treat!
I have been binging your videos!! i started playing just this week and my first 10ish or so hours were quite uneventful due to running around like a crazy person and not really succeeding in hunting, and that all changed after coming across your TH-cam videos :) I have accomplished more in the last few hours of play than previously!! thank you

I remember watching one of the older versions of this video and it helping me start up my first fallow grind. Funny enough i just got my 3rd great one fallow this morning in only 427 kills. Thanks to this type of video! Much love!

When I was grinding Grizzly to the diamond, shooting only males, I got to a situation where I had no males respawning on the map and no new watering zones appeared. Out of 78 zones, I had about 120 females and 0 males. Only when I started shooting females, new pairs started to appear on the map. male and female I have a theory, some species need to be shot in pairs, both male and female, for the respawn to be 100% used and I think this applies to some species of predators

I was about 10 hours into a fresh account, set up a grind, and before I even started killing anything in my zones, I got my first Gold Pieballed Elk.

How do I know if I’ve found all the drink zones?
Side note: I have left and came back to COTW so many times... every time I come back and check TH-cam, there’s LadyLegend. Her tenacity and expertise is truly remarkable. I have been gone from cotw for so long, I don’t even know what gun that is she is using. Does she play any other games? Why would she, when she’s like a Jedi on this game.
This solidified my understanding of herd management even tho you didn’t go into details . Paired up with your other videos, it really explains a lot.

I was grinding for a rocky elk and got trolled 2 times on the same day but stuck through it and finally got a 500+ score diamond your vids help a lot thank you for them
Thanks for sharing all this knowledge it really helps! I always wonder how much of respawn info is an estimate from a lot of gaming experience and how much is "proven" as in reverse-engineered from the code or directly confirmed by the developers... At least the comment on need finding zones increasing animals does not seem to apply in my case because i regularly level up to 60 and reset progress just for the fun of it.. And dont see a big difference in numbers.. Also there are some population analysis tools that you can inspect your save files and they seem to have relatively stable numbers on animal populations on different maps. Maybe it is different on other platforms (Im on PC), maybe the number of animals on the map are the same but rendered more if more needzones discovered? I wish the devs would reveal a bit more about the "under the hood" game mechanics :)

I have a challenge for you. A whitetail grind on Mississippi Acres.
I had a level 9 coyote always respawn around the same time in the same spot until I was able to get it. It was a pain but I learned high levels have really good senses.

Oh my, they really reworked the spawnmechanics. It used to be that the exact same animal would spawn once more if you killed it but didnt collect it. This is good for getting people to actually try and set up their shots on big guys tho (:

I searched this up when I was searching for a diamond mouflon just now. I got trolled by three level 5s and they respawned as 3s so here's to hoping I can get it right now!

I have had 2 unretrievable whitetail on my Revontuli grind because they sank to the bottom of a lake, never seen it happened before , couldn’t get them. Hope it doesn’t screw up my GO chances
Question, how to you know it's a diamond from spotting, I just started playing. Also thank you for the tip on finding drink zones, I was wondering why animal spawns are low.

Love your channel! So helpful and I've only scratched the surface of your content. Question for everyone: when we find a need zone that only has one animal attached to it (we didn't hunt it down to 1, it started at 1 max), what is the benefit of not harvesting that animal? I understand the zone gets deleted if we kill the last animal, but what good is it to you anyways to keep it on the map? Maybe that animal can be used to lead you to other (more populated, shared) need zones? Or are we only talking about preserving zones with males and at least 2 animal population?
Ok listened to the vid again and I guess it's to prevent respawns from stalling out when you have a new undiscovered need zone pop up after killing a solo animal. Having to scour the map for a single need zone to continue a grind sounds.. horrifying haha

Hey Lady, I just started my whitetail grind on Revontuli and trying to learn more about the respawns and the grind. I have been trying to shoot the 2s and leave the 1s and 3s. Should i be shooting the 3s too or no?

With the whitetail zones on Layton, can i look up a map of all the drink zones to go find or will they be in different places for other people?? Ive found a good chunk of zones but im pretty sure i dont have all of them
I’m doing a tire grind by using the 3 lake method and at first it was males responing as all males but then all of a sudden it responed as a female and now it just keeps responing as females. Pls help meeeee!!!!

What about the times I've killed some animals and the game hard dashed when i was picking up a number if bodies? Do i lose a chance on the great 1 red deer?
The red reer is obviously the animal i was referring to my bad. Hahaha.
Now that the curtain has been pulled back and the game is reduced down to the mechanics, it makes me regret buying the game on PC. I had it years ago on Xbox. I played classic on and off for over 10 years. I play because I enjoy hunting. Now sure how I feel about these mechanics. You shoot a deer, another just respawns somewhere. Needs zones that guarantee they will show up doesn't feel right either.
Devs have told us nothing. This is what we've figured out from playing for years. There are no guarantees.
Hi there, so if I got you right I know now why there are not many coyotes on my layton lakes map - because I haven't discover many need zones (drinking/resting/eating)?? So will there be one heard spawning either way when I discover any need zone? Thanks for your help!

you mention here that you should always harvest an animal you shoot, and its what you should ethically do.. but i just watched a different video where you said to shoot the cats and leave them there so they do not respawn to trouble you and the other animals for a while. =P im assuming they must have changed something.
You should harvest them to spawn a Great One. leaving a few on the ground isn't going to make a difference. Some people pick up nothing. that will not help with Great Ones.
What I am trying to wonder is how do I spawn the bigger whitetail bucks?. Because Everytime I shoot a huge buck it spawns a baby buck with a tiny rack.

So theoretically it would have been beter to find every zone not only drink zones so i would get consistent respawns then before killing anything and messing up my zones? I have checked all the lakes on my map to find all drink zones. I think i got them all but my males do not seem to respawn. Minding hunting pressure and all that. So find every of al 3 zone types would get me a consistent respawn?
most you do herd manage ment to spawn a great one or can you just shot them

could you make a video on how to gain handgun score very quickly? since the new .44 rifle uses the handgun ammo and to unluck the crazy penatration bullets you have to get 2500 handgun score.

Zones come out in stages. When you go to look for red deer zones for example. You go to a main lake. The first time you go there, you'll find 3 zones. The next time you go there, you'll find 2 more. They don't all come out at the same time. You have to check more than one time.
I have 39 fallow zones on te awarowa and I don't have respawns and I've looked over my map for hours. Why don't I have respawns
Me and my friend were playing and we shot a level 9 lion, I found it again and shot it but didn’t realize it was frozen and not moving, it apparently didn’t die so we left the game and came back. Will it respawn as a level 9 or not any advice?
For some reason my respawns are completely messed up for my fallow grind. Females respawning instead of males (never shot a female from any other zone) and now all I'm getting are level 3's and mid level 4's. From getting a diamond each rotation, I'm now just spawning 3's and 4's constantly. My exterior zones where my level 2's stay untouched are now getting respawns for no reason..... chaos. Has EW done something with the respawns?? Never had this issue.
I had to go to all of my exterior zones and shoot bigger moose that respawned there. I did that for the entire map. I set up on the zones that had bigger moose there and pulled them if they didn’t get respawns. Most of them did not respawn. Now my grind is going perfect! Watch this. @@LadyLegendXO Hey Lady, so this did indeed happened to me. I had fallow spawning in different exterior zones, over and over, where I have all level 2's. However at one point, at one of the drink zones where a bigger fallow spawned, I accidently shot a female instead of the bigger fallow that spawned. I claimed it and restarted my grind (setting back time etc) and when I reached that drink zone where I accidently shot the female, the bigger fallow now is stuck to that zone and the female I shot didn't respawn in that zone. I've shot the bigger fallow multiple times and it keeps respawning back so it seems that, now, the bigger fallow is part of that drink zone. Don't know if this might also happen with you, might be worth giving it a shot I guess.
i accidentaly deleted my first diamond moose (280 with level 4!) and i put it in my lodge and accidentaly deleted it from my taxidermized list can i get it back somehow?

Hey lady if I’m doing a red deer grind and there’s a lot of females in my primary zones and I see in videos most people have a lot of males in their zones so I’m wondering can I kill females in those zones and then go kill males at another lake near by to get their spawns to flip or will it split my zone like you were saying in this video

Ok so back in the day you and a few others would make your rotation in the grind then back out to the main menu the go back on the game and start the rotation again whats thats about and is it still relevant in 2024?

You have to shoot ‘em and refind the zone. They usually come back in the same place or close by

No that's fine. It's if you don't pick up any of your kills, you probably wouldn't spawn a GO for a very long time.

While I appreciate the odd drop in to your channel, I have a pretty good idea how much time you spend in front of the computer... and on this game/work. I was there once for a couple years, similar time in life. Reflecting back, it was not healthy - mentally, emotionally, and the RSI that crippled me for many years. That said, cheers ;)

I have probably 1000 hours in this game, my approach is just hunt! I don't camp feed zones or drink zones I just enjoy wondering around and whatever comes my way I take down, it feels more organic.
I do the same. If it moves it gets dropped. Always have a ton of animals on my maps. Only found one great one so far.
Edit I’ve also shot over 300 springbok apparently.
Math plays a role in programming, where straight RNG is not used. Leaving the smallest animals, and the largest, while shooting the medium animals is an effective strategy. Eventually you have enough smaller animals that if you shoot a large one, the algorithm (math) will tend to result in a large one spawning to take the place of the one you just shot, since there are already enough smaller animals of that species on the map.
