Similar, I left for the US at 5. Been working in the UK for 20+ years. Try to visit home every few years but sometimes it turns to 5-8 years between visits. From last year we started thinking about moving back. Have a 4 year plan to save a bit more so we can buy a few rai of land and build a house. Looking forward to being mortgage free. Hope your plan works out 💪

3200$ goes to all the bills with the house
    1200$ food every month
400$ gas for the car, luckuly i bought the car with cash
    300$ insurance
    120$ internet

left with 500-700$ each month for something else.....
I live in Norway...... life is miserable here, im depressed, im on auto pilot. Workout 5am, work at 8am, home around 6pm, dinner, sleep. REPEAT!

I'm nearly 40, and I recently realized that I don't want this life. I don't want a big house, I don't want a fancy car or lots of expensive jewelry or clothes.
I just want to live a simple life but even living a simple life here means I have to spend half of my life working just to keep my head above water and I don't want to spend my whole life working all the time.
I just want to spend time with people, I want to learn to surf, and I want to go diving and visit the beach or waterfalls at the weekends.
I've given myself two years to save, and then I'm going to spend 3 months in 4 different countries around South East Asia to see what it's like and decide where I would want to live.
I want out, and I'm finally doing something about it.

Interesting thread. I am in a similar position; family aging in the UK but new life and family beckoning in Thailand, and its been like this for me for 30 years. When you go back to the UK its usually raining/cold/damp, expensive, poor service, bad food and not really much fun, but family are there; on the other hand I have wife and family in Thailand, where things are much happier and positive, weather is much better, life is more enjoyable and much cheaper. But the family pulls us back to the UK. It becomes a balancing act, with you prioritizing what you want. On a positive note did alot of things for my sister when I was back in the UK to try and be a good brother, but we could not wait to go back to Thailand!

yeah bro Thailand is a really awesome country. at first im planning to leave here and go live in the US, but ive seen many youtubers, vloggers, tourists saying many good things about Thailand and yes i take a moment to think of the positive things in Thailand. this is such a good country to live😭 the geography, the kindest people, the food, the manners, the islands etc. plus i always get racist as an asian by westerns and americans. I realize that Thailand isnt a country with racism like the US plus many mass shooting happened there❤ happy to live in Thailand rn😂😂😊 this year is the last year of my highschool just wanna tell who is considering to be an exchange student here, try it! school life in Thailand is so fun trust me❤!! cant believe that im going to graduate in 5 months😢 (sry for my grammar 😅😅)

To eventually evolve into a state where you no longer stink in the tropics, bathe, shampoo and brush teeth with baking soda. Not only is it healthier for your skin, hair and teeth, it preserves your surface beneficial microbes which neutralises the culprit (bad microbes) responsible for odours.

Well done, George! You’ve discovered some of the most important aspects of living in Thailand, despite living here only a few years. You’ve also encapsulated the miserable life in the UK (which has become an authoritarian, police/judicial/bureaucratic state). There are some important details that you’ve overlooked, however. I help people to settle or retire in Thailand and avoid the real dangers (some of which may be not necessarily inevitable, of course).
But perhaps most important is to learn Thai. This also isn’t necessary, but many people who become disillusioned with Thailand (and/or their Thai partners) is often because they live in a kind of isolating expat bubble. And to learn Thai effectively, you must start with getting literate - otherwise you are unlikely to be understood when you speak, and you will give up in frustration after a year or so (which then feeds into a downward spiral). It’s more important than most people realize, which is why I bang on about it so! 😂

Thai language can be spoken like Yoda and we can understand it. it's just that foreigners tend to have absent in some tone which can be confusing, but Thai language is context based, so if we know the context it's so easy to understand you. We don't really expect foreigners to speak Thai anyway while we do appreciate it, but there's nothing wrong walking with translators.
so... don't be discourage about Thai language just enjoy your stay.

What you fail to address in your video is that you can't just move and live in Thailand - you need to have the necessary long-term visa to stay in the country. Thailand immigration does not appreciate 'tourists' doing back-to-back visa runs. If you stay long-term, then you need a long-term visa, and for someone under 50 years old, that is not always easy or cheap.

    • @trippinwitgeorge
      @trippinwitgeorge  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Hi - thanks for sharing. I think this was more of a "how I feel after" more than a "how to" - but yes I agree, visas need serious consideration.

    Yup..
As a born and raised East Londoner who's spent the last 20yrs working in dead end 9-5ish jobs from retail to call centre to warehouse, and just literally yesterday quitting my recent job of 3yrs, I'm completely signed out of this dreary overpriced 1st world country but 3rd world living excuse of a country now.
It's not even just the weather, it's the culture of London today: drinking culture at dozens of random new bars, gentrification, no community, no life outside of work.
As someone with no major university skills but skilled in a few fields, I just want the Ultimate Secret to becoming a digital nomad. I wouldn't know where to start as even though I completed Business Studies at 18 with distinction, I have little interest in starting one 😅
I've always been the creative type: music, fanfiction stories, attempting to write a novel series, drawing/painting, making TH-cam videos.
It's not making the jump from London to Thailand/Vietnam or Cambodia (my 3 choices) that's holding me back.. It's "what do I do now that I'm here to help fund my life?!?"..
I just dunno where to begin.
    Anyone else feel similar?

yoyo - good luck on the next phase of your journey! I am so with you...hence why I left. Little to do but go to pubs, long-as* dreary winters, and cost of living outpacing increase in wages. Feels like a sinking ship. My advice: Find 3-5 solid TH-camrs who inspire you in the entrepreneur/nomad space and learn from them. Fastest path is B2B/B2-SME service providing, but need to find what is best for you. I found a great channel called "Ecom Soup" recently I hgihly recommend. I've also got a newsletter (link...somewhere) where I share some stuff that might help. Good luck...YOU GOT THIS!!!

Yes, its nice and you could do a lot of things, even fly between the countries. The price for food, accomodation, transporation, for sex and so on are cheap, because there is a big price range to choose. And last but not least: The asia girls/women like tourists, easpecially from western countries. That is one of the main reason, why especially western men are so fascinated from South East Asia😁But when I come back from holiday to Zurich, I say each time: Zurich, Switzerland is much more worth then BKK or any other city in Sout East Asia:-)

I don't know if it's fair to talk about missing your family. Because as you grow, you potentially take jobs that take you away. I
am an American that had been living in Denver, Colorado for 10 years, parents in Nashville, Tennessee. We only saw each other for 7-14 days a year. I have been living in Europe for 5 years not seen them since I left. But we talk at least once a week. Point is I talk to my High School friends, (I am 49) they live in the same 50k country city and they go 6-8 months without talking. People grow up, jobs their own family with kids, etc so you could miss them from other side of world or even in the same town.

It is far too much to experience in Thailand to be trying to give advice so soon. Most foreigners don't really experience and get to know the real Thailand outside of Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai other areas in Thailand exist there is no reason to be running down these same areas everyone keeps hyping up. Great video but the bells music is unbearable man. Always listen to your video before publishing … it’s too loud and high pitched. I too love Thailand. My comment is sent with love, I’m not being snarky. Thanks !
