- The Texas All-State 5A Symphonic Band playing Blue Shades by Frank Ticheli. It was an absolute blast to play this song, especially under the direction of Frank Ticheli himself! Enjoy.

2:00 I cry every time
I thought I was the only one who felt this way.
8:20 I don't even play the clarinet and now my ears are eargasming all over my keyboard! That was some amazing solos.
This is my favorite video on TH-cam.
Man its about time someone posted this, recordings and nearly as good as in person
pretty neat idea turning the clarinet solo into a duet! Except the freaking marimbas were too loud...
I see the seniors who went to my school last year it's nice to see them again.
When I think I'll make first chair alto sax this year in Arizona All-State, I just imagine how intense our Texas neighbors are. Crazy haha.
Its annoying honestly. Band is such a big deal over there and schools treat it as a priority. A friend of mine moved to Texas and is gong to a High school that is brand new and they already have a ton of money and 150-200 members. In most states it would have taken a lot longer to get to the level they are at right now. A lot of schools wouldnt even have a band...and almost positive they start earlier. Where I live, we couldnt start band in school until fifth grade. Im pretty sure in Texas, they have band in like 1st grade...
Joshcoshbagosh we start at 6th grade in most of Texas.
Insurt UsarNaim well yall have REALLY good teachers or something. Why is Texas better than everywhere else?
Joshcoshbagosh one reason is that it's simply a huge state with lots of competition. TMEA is one of if not the largest classical-ish music festival in the world . Another is tradition. never in a million years will you take football away from Texas, and what's a highschool football game without a halftime performance?
Insurt UsarNaim well why cant it be tradition everywhere?
That's one of the most memorable pieces I've ever played. I've done the solo in college but never seen it quite like this. Very nice job!
He be like "I don't need no conductor's score, I WROTE THIS DAMN PIECE AND CONDUCTED IT 5MILLION TIMES!!!"
5:55 is the best part!
Awesome
Taylor David at Blue Shades - Texas All-State 5A Symphonic Band 2014 is how the solo is played, although it's a solo, they made it into a duet.
those bass clarinet solos are really good, I'm playing that price at my college and I play bass clarinet and have all those solos
Not best recording.. I know that they were amazing and we have the best all state bands in the country
what time is the bass clarinet solos at?
Not the best recording, but this is a hard as hell piece
Dylan2007sha It's children. Sounds pretty damn good when you think about that.
God they literally nailed the solo. But hearing the hard marimba mallets in the recording during the solo is weird
Da'w Eliii :P
Heya Alex,
I messaged you earlier today. Wondering if you'd get back at me.
